Christopher Savoie, the founder and CEO of Zapata Computing, has had a fascinating career journey. After beginning as a young programmer working with early computers, he switched gears to immunology and biophysics in Japan and is now founding AI companies. Along the way, he was also involved in creating the foundational technology for Apple Siri, working on early language models embedded in agents to solve complex natural language problems. In this interview with our host, Daniel Bogdanoff, Savoie highlights the evolution of AI into specialized systems. Like an orchestra, small, task-specific models working in ensembles are more effective than large, monolithic ones. He also shares how AI transforms automotive, motorsports, and grid management industries. Savoie recounts his experiences at Nissan with predictive battery analytics and Andretti Autosport, where AI-driven simulations optimize race strategies. Savoy warned about the potential misuse of AI and big data, advocating for ethical considerations, especially around privacy and government control. Despite these challenges, he remains optimistic about AI's potential, expressing a desire for tools to handle complex personal organization tasks, such as multi-modal time and travel management.
His name is synonymous with sports in the 70's. You didn't have to follow racing to know who AJ Foyt was. He's a part of Americana and in 1975 he was looking to win his 4th Indy 500. A week earlier, he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated after winning the pole position in true Foyt fashion. His first lap in qualifying was a blistering 195.313 mph and his 4-lap average of 193.975 secured the pole position in Indianapolis. But rain and Bobby Unser had other plans… a downpour ended the race after just 174 of the 200 laps, and Unser was awarded the victory with 1974 champion Johnny Rutherford finishing 2nd and AJ a disappointing 3rd… taking it all in was a kid who grew up just north of the famous racetrack and attended his first race at the age of 6 in 1966… Scott Gauger hasn't missed an Indy 500 since, including the '75 race that saw Mother Nature end the race before it could properly come to it's scheduled conclusion. Gauger grew up around racing and started working at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when he was just 13. 5 years later in 1978, he took his first official position with an IndyCar team, and almost 50 years later, he's still a part of the Old Brickyard, working on two winning Indy 500 teams… 2016 He worked for the Andretti-Herta Autosport team that won the checkered flag for the 100th running of the Indy 500 with Alexander Rossi behind the wheel… and a year later, he was with Andretti Autosport when Takuma Sato was the first to cross the finish line. And while Gauger works officially for separate IndyCar teams, his unofficial position is Ambassador of the Indy 500. He gives tours, gets tickets for kids, and promotes the race 24/7, 365 days a year. On the Past Our Prime podcast, Gauger tells us about how he grew up near 3-time Indy 500 winner Louis Meyer, who is widely known for starting the annual tradition of drinking mile after winning at Indy… Gauger talks about the greats and says AJ Foyt is the best racer of all-time, and the first person he ever saw hav a personalized license plate… He tells us about drinking the milk after winning in '16 and again in '17 and he tells us which famous actor was the best racer of the bunch… if you know racing, it won't be a surprise. And Gauger tells us why the racers of today aren't as well-known as the ones we grew up watching 50 years ago. The Indy 500. It's as American as it gets… and so is Scott Gauger, Mr. Indy 500 on the Past Our Prime podcast. Give us a review and a download if you would and share it with your friends. Romain Grosjean has raced in Formula One, Indy cars and much more. Coming to the NTT Indy Car Series after his horrific crash in the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix, he hasn't slowed down at all. After enjoying a podium finish at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach for Andretti Autosport in 2023, we caught up with him just prior to the 2024 event where he talks about switching to the small Juncos Hollinger Racing Team, his testing experience with the new hybrid, and how that compares to F1. I also asked him about a comment he made last year at this event about hisconfidence as a driver and he gives a very real and raw answer. By the way, if you speak French, he has a special message for you at the end. Enjoy! Breaking News: Juncos Hollinger announced their driver lineup for 2025 with Conor Daly and Sting Ray Robb behind the wheel. That currently leaves Romain Grosjean on the sidelines. Willhe return to Dale Coyne Racing where he began his NTT IndyCar Series career? Only time will tell. He is still contracted to race for Lamborghini in their IMSA hybrid GTP car and had the quickest lap during one of the sessions at a recent Daytona test. Stay tuned.

Continuing his recent trend of racing anything anywhere, Conor Daly is back with another weekend adventure on this episode of Speed Street. He joins co-host Chase Holden to chat about his flight troubles while trying to get to and from Charlotte for some Toyota sim time in preparation for his race weekend as well a test in a GT3 sports car at Virginia International Raceway. More flight issues on the way home made him late to prepare for his Indy double: racing a NASCAR Truck at Indianapolis Raceway Park and an Xfinity car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After an impressive practice session Friday afternoon in the stock car at the big track, Conor had a police escort to IRP where he would end up driving from the back of the pack while learning the ropes of NASCAR short track racing. Finally, Conor gives an in depth breakdown of his Saturday spent at the Brickyard mixing it up with the NASCAR Xfinity crew, where he came home in 14th place. The guys also dive into IndyCar's weekend at Toronto, where Penske teammates Will Power and Scott McLaughlin had an on-track dust-up and Santino Ferrucci went for a wild ride. Race winner Colton Herta joins the show to discuss Andretti Autosport's prowess at the Toronto street course and how the team has it circled on the calendar every year due to its continued success there. He gives a lot of credit to teammate Kyle Kirkwood who helped keep the Ganassi teammates Scott Dixon and Alex Palou at bay while they cruised to a one-two victory. Colton and Conor also chat about this year's Indy 500 and what led to Colton's lap 86 crash. Finally, Colton weighs in on what growth he's seen for the IndyCar Series this year and how he sees more fans at the race track than ever before.
If you are a motorsports fan or simply in awe of "Racing Royalty"you are going to LOVE this interview. Jarett Andretti is the son of former Indy and NASCAR great - John Andretti. In January of 2020, John lost his battle with cancer. But during his fight, he decided to bring more awareness to the importance of attaining regular colonoscopies. In doing such, he and his family created the Check it 4 Andretti Foundation (checkit4andretti.org) which provides FREE colonoscopies to those in need. In 2021, Jarett decided to pursue the family tradition of becoming a professional race car driver. Jarett is the grandson of Aldo Andretti who is the brother of Mario Andretti. He competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championships. As a member of Andretti AutoSport, Jarett and his team compete in the LeMans-like racing series where he and his teammates race around the clock for 24 hours. (This form of racing was displayed in the recent movie "Ford vs Ferrari" starting Christian Bale and Matt Damon). During this interview Jarett explains some of insightful nuances of motorsports compared to the many main-stream sports many will experience throughout their youth and adolescents. But in doing such, he opens our eyes and attention to some of the mental aspects needed to be successful on and off the track. Jarett also sheds light on how varying personalities and perspectives of being competitive exist within professional race car driving. We are SO fortunate to have been able to speak with Jarett and please take the time to follow him on Instagram as well as share with everyone checkit4andretti.org ... Devlin DeFrancesco raced for the Andretti Autosport team in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2023 and consistently improved during the season including an incredible start and a dominating run to the front of the field at the Indianapolis road course before fading back due to tire blisters. We caught up with him just off the red carpet at the premier of the “100 Days to Indy” TV show on the CW network at the Long Beach Convention Center just prior to the 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. In this interview he talks about the TV show experience, his off-season preparation regimen, and how he also prepared for this race at Long Beach (as this is his second time here). A unique insight into how an Indy car driver prepares for specific events gives listeners a bit of information that they might not have considered. Enjoy! NOTE: DeFrancesco qualified 20th at Long Beach and moved up a bit to finish 16th. At the end of the season, many changes took place at Andretti Autosport including shrinking the team down to three cars. For 2024, DeFrancesco will be competing with the Forte team in a Lamborghini in the IMSA Endurance Cup. He's also planning on a return to the Indy 500 in May, the 24 hours of Le Mans and some other European racing events. If you've been missing James Hinchcliffe behind the wheel, rejoice: he'll be joining his fellow Canadians at Pfaff Motorsports for the endurance races in the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, starting with January's Rolex 24 at Daytona. It marks the first outings for the Mayor of Hinchtown since he traded in his NTT IndyCar Series helmet for a microphone at NBC Sports and on F1 TV for the past two years. The Ontario native won six times in his IndyCar career, where he drove for many of the biggest teams in the sport, but perhaps no triumph was bigger than his 2016 Indianapolis 500 pole—which came a year after a crash in practice for that race nearly killed him. Outside of racing, he was runner-up in Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars, and he continues to host Off Track, a podcast of his own with former Andretti Autosport teammate Alexander Rossi.Listen Now: Check out this episode featuring Hinch from April 2018! (00:00-23:35) – Query & Company opens on a Thursday with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook recapping their experiences at the sporting events that they attended yesterday. This sparks a conversation that Jake and Jimmy have pertaining to the future of an MLS team coming to Indianapolis. Additionally, they discuss some things they are going to monitor during the final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles for the Indianapolis Colts. (23:35-37:54) – Jimmy and Jake come back from break discussing the situation that Jonathan Taylor is in regarding the financial numbers he could be seeking compared to what he could be getting offered. IMSA Driver Ricky Taylor of Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport joins the program in studio to explain the night activity that's been going on at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, what it's like racing on the road course in IMSA, the relationship that he has with Helio Castroneves and some of the other drivers he's worked with, and what it's like to be driving with his brother again for the same team. (37:54-45:15) – Jake and Jimmy close out the first hour of the show by discussing the compensation that the Indianapolis Colts are wanting in return for Jonathan Taylor. They note the teams that have had reported interest in JT's services. (45:15-1:08:42) – The second hour of the program starts off with Jake and Jimmy discussing the report that the relationship between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts is beyond repair. Jake thought it was widely known that was the case, but he explains why it's something that doesn't get talked about enough. He and Jimmy debate how much they'd be willing to pay the 2021 rushing leader. (1:08:42-1:20:48) – During a break earlier in the show, Jake, Jimmy, and producer Eddie Garrison were discussing what their favorite genres of music are. This sparked the three of them to get into a debate of how to define classic rock. Jake finally convinces Jimmy as to how it should be defined. (1:20:48-1:24:55) – The one o'clock hour concludes with Jake and Jimmy taking one call from a very optimistic fan stating that the Colts can make it to the Super Bowl in year one with Anthony Richardson. (2:00:52-2:03:16) – Jake and Jimmy come back from break and reflect on living in dorms at IU because Jake keeps seeing move in pictures of students not staying in on-campus dorms. (2:003:17-2:06:21) – Today's show ends with Jake asking Jimmy for the JCook Plays of the Day and some notes from a former NFL QB as to what to watch with Anthony Richardson tonight.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

IndyCar's latest race winner Kyle Kirkwood is our special guest on this week's episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast.Andretti Autosport's Long Beach victor had a best finish of 10th prior to that race, but with a calm and assured drive in what was a complicated event, Kirkwood emerged victorious - and he reflects on the experience in the show.On the agenda, Kirkwood takes questions about his rollercoaster rise to the top, and how he handled the criticism, pressure, and expectation that came while trying to lead a struggling AJ Foyt team last year.He also breaks down what the switch to Andretti has done for him, as well as discussing the “sanity check” benefit that comes from having experienced team-mates. And of course there's a deep-dive into how he won at Long Beach and how leading and fighting for a win is easier than being in the mid-pack.There's also some off-piste questions about whether Kirkwood has considered an F1 future, and if he could compete in any event or series, what would it be?Send us a question to podcasts@the-race.comFollow The Race on Instagram, Twitter and FacebookCheck out our latest videos on YouTubeDownload our app on iOS or Android Hosted on Acast.
