In all seriousness today we are reviewing a film that shocked a lot of us with the trailer. Yes, it's another death or escape kind of film in the same vein as the Saw franchise, however taking a different spin. This film, arguably with a largely no name cast aside from Tyler Labine of Reaper and Tucker & Dale Vs Evil is Directed by Adam Robitel. If you ever saw that super creepy meme floating around with the possessed woman slowly devouring a live woman's head whole in the dark, that's Adam's Directorial Debut. The Haunting of Deborah Logan. So, despite being new and this being a relatively old concept, we all thought a large portion of this movie was actually quite fresh and new and well done. This film stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, which is certainly an upgrade over Megan Fox & Mark Wahlberg and follows the plight of Bumblebee, a bright yellow punch buggy transformer with ripped out vocal cords and a child's mind. Alas' this episode is more relevant to the streaming culture and you can still find all of the films we discuss on streaming services today. We dive into three films from Q4 2018 that were hyped or otherwise talked about all across social media at the least. The first, the Sandra Bullock post-apocalyptic vehicle, Bird Box, was heavily talked about all across every media platform imaginable. The second, the under the radar Dan Stevens period horror-thriller, The Apostle, from Gareth Evans of The Raid & The Raid 2 got all of us at BHR really excited. And the third, piggybacking off of Jeffrey Wright's success as Bernard in Westworld (AMC), Hold The Dark was a search and rescue film that looked beautiful, but didn't make a lot of sense. Here is an example how not to lead your new presidential campaign or your new year, unless you are an adulterous pig. That's not giving away anything in this film, Greg Hart's Campaign is well known. He was the favorite candidate going into the election opposite George H.W. Bush, but something happened. It just goes to prove that one thing can bury your entire career. Or should. As we've seen the idiot in office currently seems to be untouchable. Not to wax political, but it's pretty hard to watch this movie and then realize our president should have been prosecuted at least a couple hundred times for a couple hundred reasons. Anyhow, this movie stars Hugh Jackman, J.K. Simmons and Vera Farmiga. The film even has a surprise appearance of Comedian Bill Burr. Ivan no longer boxes, however when we are introduced to Drago's son, Viktor it makes Adonis look like a toothpick. This Boston Hospital Morgue set possession thriller tries to make strides with cheap scares, thinly developed characters, poor dialogue and general nonsense. There will always be a novelty for B-Horror movies so while we did enjoy the film for it's unintentional stupidity, we had to be a little Brutally Honest here. Check out what we thought inside. Hey everyone and welcome back to Brutally Honest Reviews, only on The Brutally Honest Network. This week we have an installment in "The Girl Who" series. Foreshadowed by the prior films, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire & The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest, this is the 2nd American adaptation of the originally Swedish franchise which in turn is a book series adaptation by the author Stieg Larsson. But wait, there's more. That author didn't write this book or screenplay. That's right. Another author has somehow been allowed to coin an installment in the deceased author's series, which in my opinion is capitalism at it's finest (Evan). Claire Foy takes over for Rooney Mara, whom played the lead in all of the other films. An interesting note, when you realize that neither the original Director, David Fincher or the popular co-star Daniel Craig signed onto this one. Makes you wonder. Last week was the Russians, that's old news. This week we are reviewing Overlord, which was a very strange film, but also very cliche. The trailer was lackluster, some disagree, but there was a lot more to offer than the initial trailer. Holy gore and pretty close to historically accurate in terms of weaponry & set design with the added addendum if a Nazi super soldier zombie plot. Welcome back to The Brutally Honest Network for another installment of Brutally Honest Reviews. Today we are back to original structure. We are diving into a film that I wish more people saw. Alpha (2018) is about the domestication of the first dog, loosely. And by loosely, well if you went to go see it you know. This film was beautifully shot, is action packed, equally sad and uplifting. This week we immerse ourselves in racist suburban 1970's America where our lead John David Washington is pitted head to head against the KKK as the first African American Police Officer in Colorado Springs. Topher Grace plays a hauntingly polarizing David Duke, leading an otherwise incredibly stupid KKK. Adam Driver also stars in this fantastic, thought provoking, boundary pushing masterpiece by Spike Lee. In it's own right this is a powerful film. I encourage you all to check this out with an open mind and please remember who Spike Lee is. This movie isn't trying to bank on anything, but educate and provoke thought instead of action. We had a great time on this one. Remember, always keep it Brutally Honest, even if it means standing up for equality. Not to wax political or sociological, but don't be a piece of shit.
