We were created to be in relationship with God. When that part of us is neglected, the result is discontentment and despair.
Dragged through the streets, pushed onto the Temple floor, the woman caught in adultery awaits her fate. Her accusers are intent on more than punishing her infidelity. Jesus sees through to their darker motives, and gives everyone involved a surprising response. No one leaves the courtyard unchanged.
She approached Jesus with a need. She got more than she bargained for. One touch of his garment, and she was instantly cured. But Jesus had a far greater healing in mind.
A wonderful part of Christmas is in the unexpected moments: the perfect gift you didn't even know you wanted, the funny moments that come without warning, the new recipes that make Christmas dinner that much more special. God is the master at performing the unexpected. On the night Christ was born, the unexpected dominated the story.
