Pastor Folarin continues on the topic Goodness of God Listen and be blessed in Jesus name.
2-16-25 Biblical-Literacy Mark taught Lesser-Known Women of the Bible with an emphasis on unnamed but significant women. Anonymity can sometimes speak volumes. Why no name? Various reasons: to prevent embarrassment, the person is unknown or sometimes used as a literary device. Examples of the later could be to 1) elevate a universal significance as with the Shuminite woman, which provided a lesson in hospitality, 2) bring divine action to the foreground or 3) deliver a dose of irony. Today's lesson focused on 3 unnamed women in the Bible: Lot's wife: turned into a pillar of salt. She made a choice that had consequences. Luke 17:32-33 Jephthah's daughter: a rash vow causes his daughter to be a burnt offering. The widow of Nain: Jesus demonstrated compassion for her situation. Points for home: Remember Lot's wife Pursue God Don't be an idiot Never doubt the compassions of God Listen to Mark teach insights into unnamed women in the Bible. Listen to him share the power of faith in the affairs of life. This world is not our home
Ezra's Message: Enjoying Time with God Listen to Ezra Engle, Edgewater's Youth Director, share a message about his attitude, and...
If God doesn't listen to sinners, not a single person could be saved. He has a whole rescue system in place to help that sinner in the first place, and then deal justly with her sin ultimately. Rather than our sins separating us from Him, He makes a way that our sins are separated from Us. So yes, God DOES listen to sinners. If you are one of them, give it a try. Don't work for blessing, work from blessing! Jesus flips the idea of blessing upside down, revealing how we are truly blessed, which is the opposite of what we have always thought. Through the intro of the sermon on the mount, we will see what Jesus meant by 'blessed' and then challenge us to be salt and light. Salt and light! Be these!Group Life Questions:1. What stood out the most about the message?2. Read Matthew 5:1-10 in 2 other translations. What are some similarities and differences between the wordings?3. For each beatitude, list the 'blessed' or 'blessing'.4. Look at your list, where you have seen these truths in the lives of your family & friends?5. Where have you seen these in your own life?6. How can you be salt and light to someone this week? 7. End your time in contemplative prayer. Talk to God/Listen to God/Be with God.
Talk to God. Listen to God. Be With God. Let's refocus on what is most important on our journey with God. #PracticetheWayofChristGroup Life Questions1. Take some time to pray in a contemplative form: Talk To God/Listen To God/Be with God. Give the group 15 minutes to pray in this way. Distribute scriptures to the group to focus on during that time to set the tone. Collect again and discuss your experience from that time with God.2. How current are you in your obedience to God? 3. What is one thing that you are currently struggling to trust God with?4. Do you find it uncomfortable just sitting in the presence of God or do you feel that there always has to be talking?5. What will your week look like this week as you build into your schedule time to talk to God, listen to God, and be with God?

How can the hymns we sing as a congregation glorify God-- Listen to this message to learn that the hymns are to showcase who God is and what He does as the most important part of the hymn. Although we will never have perfect worship, we should aim to the lofty goal of glorifying God. Hear five standards for our worship music and see how they should show doctrinal development as the psalms do.

In this episode of our podcast, Pastor Ken Senchal explores the heart of discipleship, emphasizing the significance of beginning each day with Jesus. Drawing from Matthew 28:19-20, Pastor Ken articulates that being a disciple means being a student of Jesus' teachings and embracing the mission to make disciples of others. Key Takeaways 1. Dedicate a Specific Time for God - Establish a predetermined time each day for prayer and reflection. Following the example of biblical figures like David and Jesus, who prayed in the morning, sets a powerful precedent for starting your day with God. 2. Prepare a Place with Resources: - Equip your prayer space with essentials such as a Bible, prayer guides, and worship music to create a conducive environment for connecting with God. 3. Focus on Three Element: - The Word of God: Listen to God's voice through scripture. - Prayer: Engage in heartfelt conversations with God. - Worship: Lift your spirit through worship, transforming your perspective even if circumstances remain unchanged. 4. Overcome Common Obstacles - Discipline: Rooted in discipleship, discipline helps maintain consistency despite distractions or apathy. - Distractions: Minimize interruptions from devices and daily tasks to prioritize your spiritual time. - Apathy: Push through spiritual dryness with steadfast discipline, recognizing that commitment often precedes emotional engagement. Pastor Ken encourages everyone to commit to a daily time of prayer, scripture, and worship. This foundational practice not only fortifies your relationship with God but also equips you to make a meaningful impact as a disciple of Jesus. The school year is quickly wrapping up! With field trips, field days, finals, crazy schedules, and more, the month of May will be over before you know it and summer vacation will be underway! These past few weeks I have loved getting my mail to see graduation announcements from the class of 2024. Friends and families all over are celebrating their seniors as graduation day approaches and they are off and running onto their next great adventure! I have a couple of clients who are graduating this year and I have loved the chance to get their announcements. One mom asked me to write some advice specifically for her daughter and I loved having that opportunity. While her message was specifically designed for her, I thought about the advice I'd give to most all seniors! So if you have a senior pass this along and I'm pretty sure this podcast will apply to all of us! As I started making my list it kept growing, so this in no means is a one-and-done list! While you are listening, think of some of the secrets you'd add, and keep it going! In today's podcast, we will discuss Learn something every day Express gratitude every day Work hard Move forward Be kind Continue to get to know God Listen in! The Journey to Becoming | Self Improvement, Productivity, Lower Stress
Hey friend! Have you ever had one of those days where you were like ummm God where are you, I need you! I need a word, I need encouragement over my life. You are secretly longing for someone to text you or ask how you are doing?! I cannot be the only one…Well, my friend, this may just be the encouragement that you needed today! I felt this in my spirit and wanted to be obedient so I am sharing one of my favorite verses with you and declaring a prayer over your life today as well. Sometimes as believers we can quickly fall into the limiting belief that we are all alone and that is the absolute furthest thing from the truth! In the midst of the mundane in our day to day and humanity, God's love, joy & peace will never run out or fail us! Hey Friend! The Scripture is the foundation of our faith. When we read the Bible, we get to know more about God and His plan for us. Unfortunately, most Christians neglect this discipline, and they rarely spend enough time in the Word. However, reading the Bible regularly is the most important spiritual discipline that will help us grow closer to God. It's like taking care of a plant; you need to water it, put it in the sun, and provide it with the right nutrients to grow. In this episode, we will give you practical tips on how to read the Bible, where to start, and when the best time to read scripture is. I pray this blesses you! The topic of tithing in a church seems to get more people riled up than lots of other issues, tune in today to hear what Jesus had to say on the topic and ways people can slide off into the deep end. Jump in with us in Sections 138 (compare to 198) of the Gospel Harmonies @ https://www.harmonychurch.cc/tracking-jesus-timeline/. IT'S EASY TO GIVE at Harmony, text any amount to (859) 459-0316 to get started (or give online @ my.harmonychurch.cc/give ). ------------------- Sermon Notes Slide Key: Sermons always start with “OPENING ILLUSTRATION:” and end with “CLOSING ILLUSTRATION:" All scriptures are NIV unless otherwise noted Bold = Slide text Bold Red = Scriptures (please reflect formatting of scripture on slides, i.e. - underlines, italics, etc.) “b" or “B” on a line by itself = Slide break/New slide Bold ALL CAPS WORDS = heading to be ignored [some text] = programming notes to be paid attention to OPENING ILLUSTRATION: One time, early in our relationship. Jenni and I went up to Colorado to Pikes Peak. It was beautiful. We had hiked through the woods and were up on the side of this cliff, it wasn't particularly treacherous, but it was steep. Jenni and I had climbed out on this fallen dead tree to get a picture and we were balancing there. I did what any dumb young buck trying to impress his woman would do in that situation. I thought, “I'll just pick her up and put her on the other side of me to show her how strong I am…” Lol. I don't know what I expected her to do, swoon? So, I put my arm around Jenni and tried to swing her around to the other side of me. But instead of swinging her around, I ended up loosing my balance and throwing her down the mountain. I fell off the tree too and jabbed my chest with a stick. Lol, needless to say, Jenni wasn't impressed. I've been in several situations in my life where it felt like it was so easy to slip off one side to another. -Some of you feel that in your relationship with your spouse right now, you have had a rough go of it and you are walking on a tight wire trying not to make him mad. -Your parents seem to get set off at the slightest thing and you've been walking on pins and needles every time you're in your house, you try not to be there as much as possible because of it. This past few weeks we've been talking about money, possessions, and eternity. I've been thinking about the two edges people slip off into when it comes to tithing. b Tithing is the biblical principle where someone who loves God gives 10% of their income back to God. I know, some of you are like, “oh man, here we go again….” If you're worried that all churches care about and talk about is money I would encourage you to stick around and hear me out. I get having a preconceived idea about something… ILLUSTRATION: Our executive pastor David did this weightless transformation for like the past year or more. He's lost over 135 pounds. I watched him, but honestly, I'm a skeptic at heart. I've lost lots of weight before and I kept thinking, we'll see when you gain it all back. and I don't want another diet. I finally put aside my skepticism and tried what he was doing and found out it's transformational. What if your skepticism was turned to transformation today? b It doesn't hurt (or cost) you to listen… Listen, there are a million things we can slip off into one side or another and tithing is no different. There are two sides that Christians typically slip off into. Today, I want to share those two sides and then show you a different way to think about tithing b 1. The first way Christians slide off the end with tithing is to neglect its importance. b This view says tithing is an old testament thing, it's not important, and it views tithing as optional (at least treats it that way) The problem with this way of thinking about tithing is that it ignores that the tithe is the way God has set up funding His kingdom. Malachi 3:10 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Typically, this passage is preached about testing God and you finding your blessing, which is a perfect ok way to preach it. But I want you to notice what neglecting the tithe does. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse,” Why? “that there may be food in my house.” b God wants his people to bring the tithe because they are starving ministry when they don't. ILLUSTRATION: I normally don't like to use illustrations that feel like brow-beating, so I want to be careful here. My goal is not to make you feel guilty, but did you know Harmony has about 55 givers per week? I don't have access to names or amounts, and I like it that way. But what I do know that you guys don't know is that our staff are masters at taking a little bit of money and making it go a long way. I don't like talking about money, but one of my dreams for our church is for us to get to a point where we can do ministry to neighborhoods in our community or help with putting Christmas presents out for people who don't have them without having to question whether we have the resource to do it or not. We don't talk about it a lot because it's not who we are, but it also doesn't help you to know that literally, there are times when our ministries are starving because we just simply don't have the resource. Listen, this isn't to guilt you, there are lots of reasons a person may not tithe. Maybe you're new to the church. Maybe you didn't even know it was God's desire. Maybe you had never thought of it. When we neglect the tithe it steals from God (His words not mine) 8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?' “In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 2. The second way Christians slide off the end with tithing is to over-inflate its importance and become legalistic about it. This was the view during Jesus' day for the Pharisees. These people have good intentions, but they inflate the tithe to be overly important. they browbeat people with how little they give and are so concerned about getting it right that if they are off by pennies, they try and figure out what's wrong. This too misses it… This is actually what Jesus was coming against one day when He was at a Pharisee's house. It's interesting because he says the exact same thing he's about to say, but He'll say it towards the end of his life, I've put a comparison of these two sections in the harmonies online. Jesus is at this Pharisee's house and the guy is an absolute legalist. The Pharisees get painted as “bad guys” a lot of times when people preach, but they were just trying to honor God with their lives by obeying the law of Moses. This guy is mad at Jesus because He hadn't performed the ritual hand washing the Pharisees did before eating and Jesus lays into him. The crux of everything Jesus says in this conversation is this, “you try to honor God with legalistic fervor, but you are missing the heart of God” Listen to this passage from Luke Lk 11:42 42 “Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. Matthew Jesus had time to work on delivery of this line and He adds: Matthew 23:24 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. Most people slide off into making Tithing nothing, or they (mostly pastors) slide off into making it everything. b I want you to notice what Jesus makes it, Jesus makes tithing a LITTLE thing. b Notice He says: You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. What He's concerned with is that they've taken the time to strain out a gnat (tithing their dill & basil) but are swallowing a camel (neglecting the greater things of God, Justice, and Love). b For Jesus tithing is the easy stuff, it's the no-brainer, and it's the learner's permit. b Tithing shouldn't even be taking up brain space because it's just what people who love God do! CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: Jenni and I were talking about this the other day, because for us, neither of us grew up in a family where tithing and giving was really an important thing. But when I cam to know Jesus, and her too. It was just like the obvious things to do. Not because we are spiritual giants but because it so much reflected the heart of Jesus. The whole message of Christianity is giving yourself away for others. It's why Jesus is SO mad at the Pharisees for not loving and having biblical justice - like caring for those who are getting treated unfairly. Because they are neglecting the very character of God. For me, tithing was just reflecting the character of God. Jesus did talk about tithing, when He did, He talked about it as the no-brainer of faith. Because anyone who actually realizes what they have received in Jesus would never be so tied to their wealth that held onto it in spite of trusting God with their whole life. Listen, you may think this is about padding my pocket, I get it. I promise you it's not. This is about you getting the little things straight in your life so you can focus on the big things, like love and Justice, seeking first the Kingdom of God. So much so that if you don't trust me, start tithing to a church like Regeneration Church here in town that's doing great things. See if as you turn your heart to God, He doesn't start to work in yours. --------------------
