We're back to continue discussing the life and career of actor Nicolas Cage for season 1.5. This week, Mike and Mike are tackling THE POET, released in the US as HEARTS OF WAR, and this one... might just be the worst movie we've ever talked about on this podcast. Not just of this season, we mean ever. A World War II romantic epic between (checks notes) a Nazi soldier and a Jewish woman, the film stars Roy Scheider alongside Nina Dobrev, Daryl Hannah, and a conspicuous boom mic popping in and out of frame.

Scheider provides voice work alongside Hank Azaria, Jeffrey Wright, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schrieber, and more!

It's time for another Ko-Fi donation episode! Listener David donated $50 to our Ko-Fi page, which means he got to pick today's topic - and that topic is the 1981 live-action Disney superhero spy comedy riffing on James Bond: CONDORMAN! If you'd like to pick a topic for an episode, you know where to go: ko-fi.com/mikeandmikepods!

This week, Roy Scheider pops up for one scene in the sex comedy LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, and we're not gonna lie - it's breaking our brains a little bit that Scheider is in the same movie as Charlie Day. Directed by Nick Gregory (the son of Andre Gregory from MY DINNER WITH ANDRE) and an early example of digital filmmaking on an indie level, is this movie smarter than it appears to be? Well... let's not go that far, but there might be something here!

Thanks to a listener donation to our Ko-Fi page (ko-fi.com/mikeandmikepods), we're following up our discussion of Roy Scheider in 2004's THE PUNISHER by talking about the pseudo-sequel PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, directed by Lexi Alexander and starring Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle.
