Barbie Ferreira saw her star skyrocket as an actor in extraordinary fashion in 2019 with the debut of the HBO series Euphoria. It quickly became one of the most talked-about shows on the air and, in turn, put an especially intense spotlight on the entire main ensemble, which also included Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, just to name a few. It was a game-changer for just about everyone involved. About two and a half years later, the second season finally arrived. In most cases, that kind of wait between seasons could extinguish a show's momentum. Not Euphoria. Yet again, it closed the season as one of the most popular shows on television, and ultimately became an Outstanding Drama Series nominee at the 2022 Emmys. It remained at peak popularity. But, that's when Ferreira opted to exit.Just as Euphoria Season 3 kicks off, about four years after the Season 2 finale aired, Ferreira is in the midst of a one-two punch in the feature film realm. This weekend she celebrates the big debut of one of the most hotly anticipated genre sequels in recent years, a brand-new Faces of Death. Following in the footsteps of the infamous 1978 original, an especially nasty exploitation film that claimed to be made of far more real footage than it was, Ferreira headlines the 2026 edition as Margot. She works as a content moderator, pinpointing videos that cross the line and demand removal from a platform called Kino. That's where she comes across a video of a murder. But it has to be staged, right? That's what Margot suspects, but doubt creeps in when more videos from this particular user start to pour in.On top of that, Ferreira also has a wholly different movie hitting theaters on April 17, Mile End Kicks. In that one, she headlines as a music critic who moves to Montreal to focus on writing a book on Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. However, after falling for a member of a local indie rock band, she overlooks the book in favor of getting closer to the band, in particular, its lead singer, Chevy (Stanley Simons). With her especially big month on the big screen now underway, Ferreira took the time to visit the Collider Ladies Night studio to discuss her early success as a model, scoring her role on Euphoria, and what it's been like carving a path in Hollywood that feels true to her since. At the time he wasn't interested in most mainstream Hollywood movies, but remembers thinking that something this divisive must be doing something he had to see. Faces Of Death / Schramm Influence [37:20] David Kerekes says both Faces Of Death & Schramm provided a springboard for two key books in Headpress's 35 year history. This week, the BGH gang dives into the meta slasher “Faces of Death” (2026)—a surprisingly entertaining meditation on online violence and its consumption. Inspired by one of the most notorious shockumentaries ever made, this modern horror film explores the blurred line between reality and exploitation. Along the way, the crew breaks down why Dacre Montgomery's generic handsomeness is actually terrifying, explores the hosts and live viewers experiences with the original shocker, and discusses why content moderation is the scariest job in America. Then things get spicy when Rachel brings up the AI-generated Val Kilmer film nobody asked for. “Faces of Death” is a 2026 American horror film and a reimagining of the infamous 1978 film of the same name. Directed by Daniel Goldhaber (Cam) and co-written with Isa Mazzei (Cam), it stars Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah, Aaron Holliday, Jermaine Fowler, and Charli XCX. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's April, so that means it's time for our “No EscApril” series, where we celebrate the wonder of thrillers! Not quite horror, not quite action, that sweet spot in the middle where danger is afoot, and lives are still on the line! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest K-Tron discuss Brian De Palma's 1984 entry in the “pro-peeping tom propaganda” subgenre, Body Double! Excessive voyeurism! Open disdain for subtlety! Inept cops! A hotdog-shaped hotdog store! A bizarre and touchy acting class/therapy session! Troy McClure's weird Chemosphere house from The Simpsons! An insane Frankie Goes To Hollywood music video in the middle of the movie! Hide and seek-related trauma! A claustrophobic sardine who can't scream! A platinum blonde 80s vampire! Motion sickness-inducing bed drinking! A blatantly labeled door! Cultural insensitivity! A dizzying and confusing makeout session! A disturbing drill with a surprisingly short power cord! The Gone with the Wind of adult films! A random Nostromo hat from Alien! R-rated end credits! Rear projection and matte paintings! Great cinematography and camerawork, including several split diopter shots! An excellent musical score from Pino Donaggio! A fun cast that includes Dennis Franz, Barbara Crampton in her first role, Craig Wasson being convincingly pervy, and a fearless Melanie Griffith! All that and more in this unapologetically 80s thriller that explores the seedy underbelly of Hollywood, and may be the pinnacle of HitchSchlock! In addition, Tim recommends Sam Raimi's Send Help, K-Tron discusses the trippy 1961 film The Mask, while Alex gives his spoiler-free thoughts on Lee Cronin's The Mummy, the new Faces of Death, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and the Netflix shark thriller Thrash! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Cinematography Podcast Episode 353: Isaac Bauman Cinematographer Isaac Bauman captured the visual identities of two different horror movies in They Will Kill You and Faces of Death. Both films are currently in theaters. Bauman discusses the intricate technical gymnastics required to give each film a distinct, cinematic feel. Key Podcast Highlights: -Carefully developing the look of They Will Kill You and Faces of Death with each film's director. -Solving big lighting challenges for They Will Kill You's climax, using a massive 18K light that had to be repeatedly moved. -Working with practical puppeteering effects for the crawling eyeball in They Will Kill You, which gave the scene a higher sense of realism. -Shooting on 35mm film for Faces of Death and intentionally reducing the camera's visual capabilities. Isaac used wider lenses, stopped down, and embraced darkness to enhance the gritty, filmic quality of older movies. Today on New Movie Monday Griffey, Heath and Sam face an unexpected interpretation of a cursed artifact of the past - Faces of Death. Is it a remake? A Sequel? A copout? It's a fascinating film that attempts to reconcile the violent imagery inundating our everyday feeds with the spirit of the original film that everyone believed was a snuff film. We praise the performances by Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery and grapple over our expectations vs this new approach to a notorious title. Synopsis: A woman, employed as a website content moderator, comes across a series of violent videos reproducing death scenes from a film.
