This week, SepTIMEber continues as we head back to 14th century France to launch real fireballs out of real trebuchets alongside real Montreal LARPers in a rare misstep from a true master of the popcorn flick. It's 2003's Timeline, directed by Richard Donner, based on the book by Michael Crichton, and starring Paul Walker, Frances O'Connor, Gerard Butler, Billy Connolly, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Neal McDonough, Ethan Embry, Matt Craven, Michael Sheen, Lambert Wilson, Marton Csokas and Rossif Sutherland. Two movies into this theme month and we already be down bad with Stockholm Syndrome, as the dire straits of The Time Machine made this film look like an oasis in the desert comparatively. Alas, it is a deeply flawed flick to be sure, and for the very first time one of our hosts could not make it over the finish line. Plus: a bit of listener mail makes Hayley finally explain her longstanding beef with Ted Lasso. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our conversation, good luck! Despite being a Paramount movie, Timeline is not available on Paramount+ but is rentable on YouTube and the Cineplex app at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include Rebel Ridge, Green Room, Blue Ruin, Kinds of Kindness, Poor Things, The Favourite, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Emperor's New Groove, Child's Play, M3GAN, English Teacher, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, Almost Live!, Ready Player One, Backspot, I Like Movies, Sabrina Carpenter's album Short & Sweet, The Dana Carvey Show, Too Funny To Fail, 300, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Midnight in Paris, Pushing Daisies, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, Olympus Has Fallen, Greenland, Geostorm, Superman II, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon, Maverick, Radio Flyer, The 13th Warrior, Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow, Paycheck and The Perfect Score. We'll be back next week with a little ADHD-TPB, as SepTIMEber rolls on with a movie J Mo torrented off the internet roughly 15 years ago and never got around to actually watching: 1979's Time After Time, starring Malcolm McDowell and David Warner as H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper respectively. Sounds like fun, right? Here's hoping! It is also not available on streaming, but once again is rentable on YouTube. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

It is rare and challenging for businesses to last beyond the first generation of ownership and leadership, and rarer still for them to last into the third generation and beyond. There are many reasons for this, but a common one is that a company, once it has created its breakout, successful product, will cease to innovate and change. When vigilance on this front diminishes, it is nearly impossible for a company to remain competitive and survive.  When Robert Pasin started work for the very successful company his grandfather had founded, Radio Flyer, he was surprised to discover that his family's company had fallen prey to just this. Innovation was minimal and as a result, the company was in danger of a decline. He undertook to rebuild a culture of innovation and discipline, and was remarkably successful; Radio Flyer was recently named to the top ten Fast Company list of Most Innovative Companies for 2023. Listen to Robert's Tugboat Institute® talk and learn what strategies he employed to turn their biggest weakness into their greatest strength.

Starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt, this delightful little movie provided some much-needed relief from our last two movies, which, we'll admit, included a surprising amount of child abuse. We talk about the tropes that populate this genre of movie and Jodie argues Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a dance movie pioneer. We discuss our love for Helen Hunt and her very cool hats. Billie Jean and her brother Binx are two siblings who end up on the run after fighting back against a teenage bully and his father. Andrea and Jodie talk about movies with iconic haircuts, teenagers versus adults, rejecting the male gaze, class dynamics, the significance of pop icons like Madonna and Taylor Swift for young women, the commodification of the female body, and a ton more. This admittedly kind of ridiculous movie led to some serious conversations that we did not anticipate. We'd love to hear what you all thought of the movie! Next week, Andrea's back in the pilot's seat, and we're watching Radio Flyer, another movie about young people fighting back against adults, starring Watchers favorite Elijah Wood in one of his earliest roles. This one is darker and definitely more intense than The Legend of Billie Jean, but it's also beautiful and moving, and it will probably make you cry. Content warning for child abuse and alcoholism. If you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. It would be SO helpful if you gave our little new show a follow. You know that little bright red wagon, with the long front handle? Maybe, you might have even sat in one, careening down a hill. The wagon, and the company that makes them, is called Radio Flyer.  Over a hundred years since that first stamped metal wagon, that same company now makes a Radio Flyer Tesla S for Kids, in that same bright red. Right next to the classic wagon on their website, you can now buy Radio Flyer e-bikes, Radio Flyer go-karts, even a Radio Flyer trampoline. Behind the company's sustained success is one family – the Pasins. Three generations have sat behind the wheel of Radio Flyer, starting with Antonio Pasin in 1917, all the way to Antonio's grandson, Robert. Robert became Chief Wagon Officer at Radio Flyer when he was just 27, taking on the burden of legacy. He joins us this week to talk about turning around a floundering family company, and remembering why you're in the business to begin with.

Welcome to March 29th, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate a right of passage and the Silver State. If you never had a Radio Flyer little red wagon as a kid, then you have missed out on something truly American, hauling stuff around. When we grow up we buy trucks and let our hair blow in the breeze. Our dogs ride shotgun with their noses out the window. And the back is full of gear for our next great adventure. This all starts with our first set of wheels, and anyone who sees a kid at the park pulling his version of the important stuff knows it. There goes an entrepreneur, an engineer, the next great lemonade stand! Keep your eyes open for this right of passage. It's a good one and it's bound to pull on your heart strings. On National Little Red Wagon Day, you can bet these kids hauling stuff around are going some place good. Nevada is well known for its casinos and tourist attractions, but it’s also home to something not nearly as lively. Ghost towns. Because of its mining history, the state has over 600 of them. One of the most interesting is Berlin, Nevada. Not only will you find the remains of a mining community, with abandoned buildings and a cemetery, but also something much much older. The remains of Ichthyosaurs, aquatic dinosaurs that lived in the oceans covering the state 225 million years ago. The fossils are on display in the museum at the state park. On National Nevada Day, we celebrate the Silver State and its long standing history. I’m Anna Devere and I’m Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. The director, producer and editor always had a love for film and pursued his dreams at a film school in Chicago. But defaulting loans due to the recession in 2008 forced him to leave Columbia College Chicago, and he and his family moved from his hometown on the outskirts of Detroit to Shreveport, La. Far away from his comfort zone, Calvin forged a unique way into the post-production industry. Taking advantage of Louisiana's tax credit, Calvin would have an opportunity to cut his teeth on multiple independent films and participate in an assistant editing class that would shift his trajectory and put him on the path to joining the team who edited the Academy Award-winning animated short, The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore. Since then, he has edited several Emmy Award-winning branded content pieces such as Chipotle's The Scarecrow, and Dolby Laboratories' Silent & Radio Flyer's Taking Flight. Most recently, Calvin's ability to pivot and consistency in the following up moved him west to Los Angeles, where he would serve as the Editor for Disney+'s critically acclaimed reboot of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Of course, one episode devoted to the imaginary sex rabbit McTwo could never be enough, right? So we spend another day exploring the world of McTwo. This time, we stay primarily in Juliette & Elliott's bedroom, but that doesn't mean the psychological landscape is any simpler. Far from it. There is such outlandish punctuation abuse, it nearly defies belief. But Brooke McEldowney does in fact use over 100 periods IN ONE WORD BUBBLE. Then McTwo joins Juliette & Elliott in their bed, which Juliette finds disconcerting at first but then -- we guess? -- a turn on? Ultimately, we end where we began last episode, specifically, with Juliette angrily "fluffing her pillow." I wish that was slang for something other than punching her pillow, I really do. This week, I want to do something different while you read this week's guest introduction. Take a moment to imagine your childhood self playing in your yard or with friends down the street. You may remember riding down the road in your nice, new, red Radio Flyer Wagon. This week's guest is facilitating this generation's wagon memories as the Chief Wagon Officer at Radio Flyer. Speaking of generations, this week's guest's grandfather was the founder of this iconic brand. When not on his wagon, he can be seen running in marathons, playing with his children, or winning Emmy awards for his animated short film, Taking Flight. As he transports us to some of the best parts of childhood, this week's guest is Chief Wagon Officer, Robert Pasin. Robert attended the University of Notre Dame prior to earning his MBA at Northwestern a few years later. Robert's grandfather founded Radio Flyer in 1917. In 1992, Robert joined the company when iot wasn't growing or profitable. Robert quickly found numerous reasons as to why, including no hiring process/HR function until 2004. The major change was that Robert shifted the focus from manufacturing to product development, and did a significant amount of “Feet On The Ground” research that was focusing on seeing how customers were using their products in the field. In 2015, Robert and Radio Flyer topped $100 Million in sales, all came with the mentality of:“Radio Flyer can be whatever you imagine it to be and it can take you anywhere you want to go.”Please enjoy this week's episode with Robert Pasin.  Robert's Social Media:Website: https://www.radioflyer.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-pasin-b2b0953/ Jake Dunlap:Personal Site - http://jakedunlap.com/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jakedunlap/Twitter - https://twitter.com/JakeTDunlapInstagram - http://instagram.com/jake_dunlap _Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/JakeTDunlap/ Skaled:Website - https://skaled.com/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/skaled
