Daniel SeidmanComposer & Co-LyricistDr. Daniel Seidman is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in New York City. Dan started playing in a band at the age of 12 at the Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village. At the age of 15, he toured the U.S. and Canada playing Hammond organ for Chubby Checker. He completed a year as a composition major at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1972-1973, and a B.A. in History from SUNY Binghamton. He received a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1988, and subsequently joined the faculty at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) where he taught, practiced psychology, and did research for 30 years. He retired from Columbia in June of 2018. Fifth Avenue the musical originally grew out of Dan's combined interest in jazz and history. Discussions with a history professor Albert Fried about the immigrant experiences of the Irish, Jews, Italians and in more contemporary times, Blacks, Hispanics and the Chinese provided insight into the “dark side” of the American dream and its “underworld culture”. This is the story Fried tells in his book “The Rise and Fall of the Jewish Gangster in America” (Columbia University Press). After college, Dan began composing the music for "Fifth Avenue" while employed by the Shubert Organization in New York City. He met Susan Crawford, who wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics for Fifth Avenue, in 1979. They were married in 1984 and are now the proud parents of two grown sons. Susan CrawfordBook Writer and Co-LyricistMy theater life began at 13 in my hometown's Shakespeare Festival. It evolved into much acting from then into my 30's. It soon overlapped with an interest in playwriting, and I finished my first play at 24. Eventually writing overcame acting for me. For that I studied with Arthur Kopit and John Guare; lyric writing at the ASCAP workshop, and with Sheila Davis, and Dorothy Fields. Around that time I co-developed the continuity for Ned Sherrin for “Only In America” songs by Leiber and Stoller. It ran at the Roundhouse in London, and was a distant antecedent to what became “Smoky Joe's Cafe.” “Dollars to Doughnuts, a Comedy for the 99%” was my master's thesis in the CCNY Graduate Writing Program where I studied with Arthur Kopit. It was a finalist in the O'Neill Playwriting Conference the year it was finished (under the title "Lotto"). For the summer 2022 season, it was selected by Theatre for the New City's “Dream Up” Festival where it was workshopped and is now being submitted for production. My one-act "Place Settings" was selected for the Chain Theatre's 2023 Winter One-Act Festival, and is also available for production.R.K. Tomorrow, August 30, the biopic Reagan hits theaters, with Dennis Quaid playing President Ronald Reagan. We're so fortunate on the show today to have a man who knew Reagan well—Ken Khachigian, whose new book Behind Closed Doors: In the Room with Reagan and Nixon, focuses on his relationship with not just Reagan but also President Richard Nixon, as well. Right smack dab on the front cover of the book, which just came out on July 23, Ken is described as a speechwriter, confidant, and strategist to political legends. In today's episode, I ask Ken what role he enjoyed playing most and why, and which role was the most challenging for him. Ken was a longtime aide to President Nixon and was there for both his resignation 50 years ago this month and the Frost/Nixon interviews. Later, he was President Reagan's chief speechwriter. Ken is a veteran of nine presidential campaigns, and in this book takes us in the room with not just one but two presidents. In addition to his work as a successful attorney, Ken became California's premier Republican strategist in elections for governor, senator, and attorney general. He helped Nixon craft his memoirs and wrote notable speeches for Reagan like his first inaugural address, welcome home remarks for hostages taken during the Iran hostage crisis, his acceptance speech at the 1984 Republican National Convention, and, four years later, his farewell address at the 1988 Republican National Convention. Most recently, when it comes to presidential campaigns, he served as a senior advisor on the 1996 campaign of Bob Dole, the 2000 campaign of John McCain, and the 2008 campaign of Fred Thompson. Take a listen to what he has to say. Behind Closed Doors: In the Room with Reagan and Nixon by Ken Khachigian Visit Ken's website at reaganandnixon.com!
John Knepper thought he would pursue a career in theater after graduating and performing at the Harvard Radcliffe summer theater. However, after moving to Memphis, Tennessee, he took a left turn and started working in the marketing department of the nation's fifth largest security guard company. After nine months there, John quit his job and traveled around the country for six months. Working in Washington on Immigration Laws On the last leg of his travels, he was in Washington where, by chance, he met the assistant to the Chief of Staff for Senator Al Simpson of Wyoming. Six months later they called him for an interview and subsequently he started working on Capitol Hill. He talks about his work as a personal assistant for a senator before moving on to work for the Senate Judiciary Committee. In 1995 and 1996, he worked on the 1996 immigration law, which was the last major piece of immigration legislation passed by Congress. John also worked for Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee on the Governmental Affairs Committee and Homeland Security Committee for two years, where he worked on investigations into foreign influence in the 1996 Presidential election. John worked on campaign fundraising and regulatory reform, becoming one of the most knowledgeable staffers for the Senate Judiciary Committee without a law degree. From Washington to Law School In 1998, he decided to change careers and went to law school. He attended the University of Michigan School of Law, which was considered the best law school at the time. Upon graduating from law school in 2001, he worked for a federal judge for a year and later held a position with the US Department of Justice in the Federal Programs Branch. He was part of the team that defended the McCain Feingold campaign finance law, and John talks about how the law faced constitutional challenges and the mistrust among the Republican and Democratic National Committees. John discusses his role in document review at the Republican and Democratic National Committees, and his decision to build an effective record of campaign finance regulations. He also talks about working on national security issues for President Bush, such as the freezing of assets of the Iraqi government and the question of how to give Iraq billions of dollars back to the government. Working as the Associate General Counsel of the OMB John was called to work as the Associate General Counsel of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in 2004. OMB is an agency within the White House responsible for ensuring that federal government actions are consistent with the President's priorities. Originating under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, OMB is responsible for reviewing all testimony, legislation, and major regulations issued by the executive branch to Congress. He talks about working under President Bush and eventually becoming the deputy general counsel of the Office of Management and Budget. The office was responsible for supporting the President's views and clearing executive orders. The general counsel's office was also responsible for reaching out to other federal agencies to discuss concerns and ensure they understood the consequences of their actions. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Financial Bailouts In summer 2008, a friend of John's, who had been in the White House Counsel's office, called him to discuss the economic concerns with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. John moved over to become the Deputy General Counsel of the Treasury. The conversation turns to the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the potential bankruptcy of AIG, and the impact of money market funds on the economy. He talks about the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) which was developed to provide an asset against which companies could borrow from the Federal Reserve. This allowed the government to keep the velocity of money in the system, and AIG was a prime example of how the US government managed to keep these businesses operating. He also discusses an unsung moment during the financial bailout and the collaboration between Merrill Lynch and Wachtell Lipton, Rosen and Katz, and one reason for the bailout. From Washington to Wyoming In 2009, John was unemployed due to elections having consequences. He moved to Wyoming, where the economy was buffered by long-term commodities contracts, and he started working for the city of Cheyenne Wyoming as an attorney, working on $50 million government programs. John talks about Wyoming's unique tax system, with no state income tax, so revenue is largely mineral taxation. He worked with people in Wyoming suing companies over tax burdens. John worked there for two years before falling into another position as the Attorney General of Wyoming. He was appointed as the Chief Deputy Attorney General of Wyoming, and for five years, from 2013 to 2019, he was the number two lawyer for the state where he worked on environmental, law enforcement, and gun rights issues. Establishing a Solo Practice From March 2019 onwards, John moved on to solo private practice in Wyoming. He chose this path because he wanted to take on more controversial litigation and avoid moving their family to a different location. He discusses his experience as a political appointee of George W. Bush and involvement in pro life cases, including pre and post Dobbs litigation on pro life issues. John has also been involved in controversial cases, such as defending coverage of gender transition services and determining equal protection. Large law firms often avoid this area due to financial constraints. His practice is paid law, with clients ranging from wills for small to large corporations, and he works on multi-district litigation. Influential Professors and Courses at Harvard John mentions a class on the Holocaust and genocide by Professor Eric Goldhagen, which he found to be incredibly profound. This course changed his interest in understanding the reasons behind people's resistance to horrible decisions, such as murder and atrocities. He also took courses on resistance to authority from social psychologist Herb Kelman and his senior thesis on the concept of the witch at the Salem witch trials. He mentions Professor Orlando Patterson of the Sociology department at Harvard had a class on freedom, focusing on the origins of the western and American concepts of freedom and liberty. The 52nd street project is in New York City, and my husband and I both volunteered there for about 10 years. It takes kids from Hell's Kitchen community and pairs them with theater professionals to write and perform original plays. It also offers homework help and mentor programs and all kinds of arts classes. It's free for the children who want to participate, and it's just a really awesome example of the transformative power of storytelling through theater. The second nonprofit I want to recommend is in Los Angeles, California, and it's called Village Arts Theater. It is a nonprofit that provides all kinds of arts classes and opportunities for kids from the community, ages four to 14 to participate in plays and in classes. It's an inclusive program, and no child is turned away because of financial need. And I have taught, volunteered, directed, choreographed for village arts for a decade. I still work with them, and both my children were raised in this theater program, and I have seen countless children benefit from all the amazing things that it has to offer. 52nd Street Project website is the numbers five, two and then the word project.org, and village arts website is one word, village arts theater with an R E at the end.org, 52 project.org, and villageartstheatre.org. And org, and they are both worth checking out and worthy of your time, your money, your talents, resources, whatever you might have to offer. And now here is Will Bachmann with this week's episode. Welcome to the 4th episode of our Trilogies series. We hope you enjoyed our last episode where we looked at The Dollars Trilogy from Sergio Leone. On this episode, we look back at some favourites from our childhood that we watched quite a bit on VHS. We are going to be looking at the original Jack Ryan trilogy that consists of The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger that starred Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. The main character created by thriller author Tom Clancy who appeared in multiple books by the author. The three early Jack Ryan films were seminal thrillers of the early to mid 90s. Proper Dad thrillers. Fun and memorable films with excellent all star casts that included actors such as Sean Connery, Sam Neill, Tim Curry, James Earl Jones, Scott Glenn, Fred Thompson, Sean Bean and Anne Archer. All three films are well directed by directors who understood the action and thriller genres: John McTiernan and Phillip Noyce. There's always some political and spy intrigue in these films plus some good action. We hope you continue to enjoy this new Trilogies Series we're doing and we also hope you enjoy this episode. We're digging into the Rob Schneider bucket once again this week as we watched Necessary Roughness from 1991 featuring the Robmeister calling plays for a football team full of underdogs. Let me ask you a question. If I said I found a movie that features Scott Bakula, Kathy Ireland, Larry Miller, Robert Loggia, Sinbad, Senator Fred Thompson and of course Hector Elizondo would you think that it would be the greatest movie ever? So did we, but we found ourselves another thoroughly mediocre sports comedy. This week, the hunt is on as we kick off the new year with a spy thriller from the director of Die Hard. It's 1990's The Hunt For Red October, directed by John McTiernan, based on the book by Tom Clancy, and starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Sam Neill, Scott Glenn, James Earl Jones, Tim Curry, Courtney B. Vance, Stellan Skarsgard, Jeffrey Jones, Rick Ducommun and Fred Thompson. It's the first of a four-week January series that we're calling The Hunt For The American James Bond, as we go from last month's Mission: Impossible discussion to the broader effort of Paramount Pictures in the 1990s to create a hit spy franchise. There's certainly a lot to like about this one, but Baldwin's Jack Ryan feels pretty flat at the heart of it. Plus, Justin and Hayley both caught The Iron Claw in theatres over the break. Other works discussed in this episode include The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Thing, Alien, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, The Last Waltz, Kelce, Past Lives, Asteroid City, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, Assault on Precinct 13, GoldenEye, the Jack Ryan series as a whole, the James Bond series as a whole, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Jurassic Park, LOST, Crimson Tide, The Equalizer, and Training Day. If you'd like to watch the movie along with us this week, it (along with every other movie we're doing this month) can be found streaming on Paramount+. The hunt continues next week as we return with 1992's Patriot Games, in which Harrison Ford replaces Alec Baldwin in the lead, opposite a villainous Sean Bean. Until then, see you at the movies!
“Like most motion pictures, this needed way more Reginald VelJohnson” - Andrew On this week's episode, we're chatting about the high body count/low IQ, Christmas-set sequel, Die Hard 2! Why couldn't they have developed a script where now-LAPD detective John McClane has some adventure on the streets of Los Angeles instead of a boring D.C. airport? How amazingly scuzzy and inept is Dennis Franz's Carmine Lorenzo? Did they really need to go the sequelitis route of just repeating famous beats from the first film? And has there been a better villain introduction than William Sadler's totally nude Colonel Stuart? PLUS: Dennis Franz storms out of a screening of the film Her! Die Hard 2 stars Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, William Sadler, Franco Nero, John Amos, Reginald VelJohnson, William Atherton, Art Evans, Fred Thompson, Tom Bower, Sheila McCarthy, and Dennis Franz as Carmine Lorenzo; directed by Renny Harlin. Fred Grandy spent 8 years in the US House as a Republican from Northwest Iowa, but remains best known for the decade he spent playing the character Gopher on the iconic 70s/80s hit television show "The Love Boat". In this conversation, he talks how his small-town Iowa roots mixed with matriculating at tony Eastern boarding schools, how he came to spend time around both President Eisenhower and President Nixon, why an initial flirtation with politics instead pushed him to Hollywood, what drew him back to politics after an incredibly successful run in show business, memories of his 8 years in the House, challenging an incumbent in a 1994 gubernatorial primary, what he's done since leaving office, and one of his current projects portraying Harry Truman on stage in "Give 'Em Hell, Harry". I'm talking in this episode with the upbeat and visionary George Gilder, one of America's leading economic and technological thinkers, and the author of the groundbreaking books, Wealth and Poverty, Knowledge and Power, The Scandal of Money and now: Life after Capitalism: The Meaning of Wealth, the Future of the Economy, and the Time Theory of Money Co-hosting with me is the equally upbeat and contrarian thinker John Tamny, founder of Parkview Institute, editor of RealClearMarkets and author of the recently published The Money Confusion: How Illiteracy About Currencies and Inflation Sets the Stage for a Crypto Revolution“ Life after Capitalism launches a new economic theory. A key theme of the book is that wealth is knowledge and that the difference between our age and the Stone Age is entirely the accumulation of knowledge. The prevailing “capitalist” theory, conceived by Adam Smith and coined by its enemy Karl Marx, is deeply inconsistent with actual capitalist practice. Karl Marx - and now the cultural Marxists - are dead wrong. Economics is not a zero sum game class struggle for power. Instead, what governs economics and flourishing is human creativity. Innovation and growth are capitalism's infinite promise. The clash between creativity and power is the central issue of our time. We need to keep front and center the idea that freedom and innovation are humanity's best path of escape from stagnation and tyranny. Here are just a few of the things we talk about in this episode: Most of the way people talk about economics is wrong. Almost all the economic statistics you see in the newspapers are just plain unfounded. They're just projections, arbitrary subjective views, and self-interested inventions. Information theory puts it in the proper light. Economics is not an incentive system. It's an information system. Information theory explains the actual foundation of our modern era. Humans operate on the learning curve which means that with every doubling of total units sold, costs drop between 20 and 30%. In other words, the natural progress of costs is to drop. The Federal Reserve's idea that the natural condition of life is 2% inflation every year is completely spurious. Economists and statisticians disguise the fact that that GNP is wildly overstated for government services and wildly understated for private sector business contributions. Free enterprise is driven by the creativity of the human mind and the possibilities of human creativity are essentially infinite. The “surprise” is that the new great inventions always come as a surprise to us. One way to understand the economic theory of information is to see how it's been pitted against the politics of fear. Today's world is dominated by the politics of fear. The late Senator Fred Thompson, was asked, "Why didn't you run for president in 2000?" And he said, "I just didn't want to go around the country telling people how bad they had it." The prevailing notion that there are magical people in a government office that can protect us from bad things is just wrong. The truth is that material resources are essentially infinite. They are not scarce. Humans keep inventing new materials from what was previously thought useless. The solution to a Texas sized flotsam of plastic refuse floating in the Pacific Ocean is not to shut down the plastics industry. It's to use it as the raw material for a transformational new material, graphene. This episode offers up a strong dose of positive reality. Not optimism. Reality. Look around at the super abundance that's been created in the world in the last 250 years. Billions of people have been lifted out of poverty and are living longer healthier lives. All these good things that are happening will keep happening if we simply keep what are essentially Marxist zero sum “solutions” from getting in the way and instead let freedom and human creativity work its magic.
Sinister (2012) Sinister is a 2012 American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by C. Robert Cargill and Derrickson. Erica Stanley-Dottin is a lifelong competitor and athlete, but it wasn't until she was in her 30s that she discovered her love of distance running: marathons and half-marathons, specifically. She also discovered that she is fast at these distances. Today, she has big goals: Erica is going after a sub-3-hour marathon. This is the story of Erica's dedication and drive, and the people who helped her get to the next level. Erica was a competitive track sprinter beginning in her teen years, all the way through college. She started out being coached by the legendary Fred Thompson, who founded the Colgate Women's Games: this is the longest running track series for women in the country; it's been happening for 47 years. After college graduation, however, Erica decided to hang up her cleats, and running became about fitness and health. That is, until she started running with a friend who was training for the New York City Marathon. This eventually led Erica back to competitive running, but this time tackling long distances. Her competitive spirit reignited by her distance running pursuit, Erica found her way to the competitive running team the Black Roses, a team with a particular focus on supporting women racers. Through working with her teammates and coach/team founder Knox Robinson, Erica's running progressed to the next level. She has continued to hone her distance racing skills and reach ever faster PRs, on her quest to run the marathon in under 3 hours: at Boston 2022 she ran a 3:01. For Erica and several of her teammates, this milestone has significance for multiple reasons, including adding their names to The List. This is an account of all the American-born Black women who have run the marathon under 3 hours. To date, there are only 24 names on that list: two of them are Erica's teammates. And no doubt, she'll be there soon. Erica will be racing for this goal once again at the 2022 Berlin Marathon, September 25. In addition to being a competitive marathon runner, Erica is the mom of two young boys; the New York City community manager for Tracksmith; and a social impact producer for the documentary Sisters on Track, which is streaming on Netflix. This episode features a bonus anecdote from Erica after the credits: it's all about world's colliding in delightfully fortunate ways and how running is about so much more than the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other. This episode is sponsored by The Feed, the largest online marketplace for your sports nutrition, offering the brands you know and love, from Skratch Labs, Clif Bar, to Maurten, plus their athlete customized supplements called Feed Formulas. BOMBSHELL!!!Assistant to the President for Special Files, Alexander Porter Butterfield would be questioned by lawyers for the Ervin Committee and while being asked questions he was directly asked if there were recording devices in the White House. His answer to that question changed everything about the Watergate Scandal. It laid the groundwork for the downfall of the Nixon Administration. Years later, when asked if he should have burned the White House tapes Richard Nixon would answer " Yes, I should have because they were open to misinterpretation as we have seen." He was very correct. To this day people think that the tapes proved Nixon's guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. But in reality they don't. They do prove he cursed a lot, said the word "God Damn" a lot, made anti-semetic remarks , racist remarks, and he would fly off the handle saying things in anger that he should not have said, and he was a President who thought out loud, mulling over every angle of an issue, legal and illegal, moral an immoral, until a workable solution was determined. For an American people who had never heard a President talk in private before it was a shocking thing to hear. But what you did not hear, was a President committing an actual impeachable offense. But as in all situations in life it is often far more complicated than can be explained in a simple sentence and a lie, as the old saying goes, can be half way around the world before the truth can get out of bed. This series is dedicated to the truth, the ugly, complicated truth. The truth is Richard Nixon is no angel, but he faced some sinister forces in American Government determined to bring him down during the second most divided era in all of our history. This podcast documentary series is dedicated to showing you the facts about the scandal that derailed a presidency. We don't delve into conspiracy theories or guesswork as to the involvement of CIA connections, or secret plotters with innuendos. As this Podcast moves forward we will document everything we talk about and give you source material where you can read and look it up for yourself. Is there more to the story than what we will cover from this point on? Most likely. But what we will show you we can provide a paper or electronic trail for and it is not a pretty sight. What we can also show you is that Richard Nixon's claim about the misinterpretation of conversations made to fit a certain narrative is in fact very real. We hope you will listen for yourself and be able to differentiate between things said in private, in different contexts, and actual criminal intent. Then you may come away with a totally different viewpoint of the events that brought down the President of the United States. But that is the story we will tell as we travel down the road of Watergate. This episode is the story of how the tapes came to light in the first place and the beginning of the fight that would become the final act of the Nixon Administration.

Rigged- The Zuckerberg Funded Plot to Defeat Donald Trump https://citizensunitedmovies.com/programs/rigged-zuckerberg-funded-plot-defeat-donald-trump?categoryId=108543 Available to watch now for $4.99 The 2020 presidential election left more questions than answers. Over 10 million more Americans voted for President Donald Trump in 2020 than in 2016, yet the president lost. Today, an overwhelming number of Americans say democracy is under attack. Rigged: The Zuckerberg Funded Plot to Defeat Donald Trump investigates Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's role in the election. Rigged looks at the nearly $400 million Zuckerberg spent nationally in voter operation efforts, particularly in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia. 42,000 votes in those three states are the reason Joe Biden is president. Featuring exclusive interviews with President Donald J. Trump, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Senator Ted Cruz, Attorney General Jeff Landry, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Congressman Jody Hice, Kellyanne Conway, Ken Blackwell, Ken Cuccinelli, Cleta Mitchell, Michael Gableman, Janel Brandtjen and Scott Walter, Rigged follows the money and uncovers the startling facts behind Election 2020 in order to answer the question once and for all: What happened. And ensure it never happens again. Zuckerberg's funding of thousands of grants to government election offices across the country was unprecedented and massive in scope. These grants - using the COVID-19 emergency as cover - were used to promote mail-in voting, ballot curing, and drop boxes, the controversial practices that experts say make our sacred elections process far less secure and raise serious questions. Was this a partisan voter turnout operation to assist Joe Biden? Since 2004, Citizens United Productions has produced 26 hard-hitting and insightful documentary films, including the award-winning Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny and Nine Days That Changed The World, hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich. Other notable titles include Perfect Valor with the late Fred Thompson; The Gift Of Life with Mike Huckabee; Border War; Generation Zero; and Hillary The Movie, the catalyst for Citizens United's landmark victory for free speech rights at the U.S. Supreme Court.
As we finish the first half of our series on the Nixon Administration and its place in our much longer series of shows that covered the Vietnam Era, we thought we would preview the events on the way over the next 3 seasons of our show. This is the coverage of the fall of Richard Nixon and the scandal known as Watergate. It would undermine in the eyes of the American People all he had accomplished to bring peace to millions around the world, and to bring peace, prosperity, and a healthier, more equal country, at home. This preview we hope will leave you asking a simple question about Watergate. Was it Fair? Was Richard Nixon and those defendants, tried and convicted of criminal acts in the scandal, really able to receive fair treatment in the eyes of the American people, or in the Federal Court System, and if not, is it now time to change it for the sake of a more truthful and fair assessment for History. We are about to embark on one of the most comprehensive looks at Watergate ever produced, with new information and insights, and no longer through the eyes of the conventional wisdom that Richard Nixon was somehow the bad actor in the events of the final two years of his administration. Join us starting May 16, 2022, for the start of this Landmark Podcast Documentary event on Watergate. It will change everything you thought you knew about President Richard Nixon....

Hello and welcome to another episode of the B Bin! First and foremost I wanted to apologize for the audio on today's episode, this was recorded a few months ago and we left the AC on. That is our bad for sure but we hope you still enjoy it. On today's episode we discuss the 2012 Horror film, Sinister. Sinister was written and directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, James Ransone, Fred Thompson, and Vincent D'Onofrio. We saw that this movie was said to be the scariest movie of all time, but that is a load of shit. Sinister follows a true crime writer trying to reestablish his success as he moves his family into a house where the previous families were murdered in peculiar ways. Things start getting weird when he finds old movies depicting the killings of families in the attic and before he knows what is going on its already too late for the writer. Most here at the B-Bin, besides Brandon, really liked the film. We loved the eerie home movies but thought the movie would have been much better without the visual images of Bughuul. We discuss what our favorite and least favorite home movies were, how to perfectly cook a human body, what we would do if we were a ghost living in the house and we draw comparisons to Michael Jackson and Bughuul. If you guys haven't already, please check us out on Facebook and Instagram @bbinhorror, you can also send us an email at bbinhorror@gmail.com We hope you enjoy this episode!
Just in time for Halloween, let's review one of the craziest horror thrillers from the ‘90's which came out almost thirty years ago and was directed by the Master himself Martin Scorcese….as his follow-up to a little film called Goodfellas. It stars Robert DeNiro as ex-con Max Cady who is out for revenge against the attorney Sam Bowden who failed to keep him out of jail 14 years earlier played by Nick Nolte. Sam's wife and teenage daughter also get put in harm's way, they're played by Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis – everyone just brings it with lights-out performances as both Lewis and DeNiro were nominated for Oscars at the time. On this episode, I am joined by Jasher Drake of Podzilla to discuss the very creepy movie from 2012, Sinister! We get into a stunt that went wrong, how we have The Ring (2002) to thank for having this movie, the types of fears it plays off of, and whether or not this should be considered a found footage movie. The Scopes "Monkey" Trial in 1925 was called the "trial of the century," and it was the second "trial of the century" in less than a year - both featuring famous lawyer, Clarence Darrow, a genius of verbal manipulation and communication. Learn about the interesting backstory of "A Boy Named Sue," by Johnny Cash, and its relation to the Scopes Trial. Learn how this "monkey trial" included the 1925 version of Hillary Clinton mixed with Franklin Graham and Fred Thompson, pitted against the 1925 the real life Atticus Finch, mixed with Johnny Cochran. It's actually pretty crazy. Also, the first "affluenza" case, where two young rich kids tried their hand at serial killing, and discovered they weren't as smart as socialist philosophers convinced them they were.... All of this ties together in the strange real world we live in. And of course, my commentary as a trial lawyer and lover of interesting history.
