“What if all this was so that your life would create a context for someone else to come into his destiny? Would you still do it?” - @yeohjo In the final week of “Caught up in God's story” series, we had the honour of having Josh Yeoh, who shared his journey of how God gave him a word to sow seeds of prayer movement into the local church, yet challenged and remade him into a man that will lay down his dreams and step away from self-actualisation and help others come into their destinies. Sharing from the relationship of Jonathan and David, Barnabas and Paul, where the former had godly contentment in taking the backseat and fully investing in the interest and the assignment of the latter, brought God's purpose to pass and the Antioch Church was established. He left us with this question: Who are the people, ‘David's' and ‘Pauls' in our lives that we would step aside to, give our resources, time and energy and lay down our lives for so we could build them up for success? Ultimately, the Antioch church can only be build through: 1. A diverse body with different gifts and talents and we are not to dismiss those whom we think are less. 2. A culture of fasting and praying, where we are filled with a holy discontent and be awakened to things in God we would otherwise go without. 3. Identities found not in the sending but in being set apart for the Lord. As we close this sermon series, may we pray for the desire to be set apart for His kingdom and live out God's story in our lives.

In this second part of the mind-blowing conversation on The Paul Taylor Podcast, we explore the fascinating world of cellular health with Dr. Christabelle Yeoh who challenges our understanding of light, cold exposure, and mitochondrial function. Through a blend of cutting-edge science and practical applications, we uncover why sunlight impacts far more than just vitamin D levels, how red-light therapy directly activates your cellular powerhouses, and why your mother's genes might influence your mental health more than previously thought. From the science of cold exposure progression to the truth about trendy NAD+ supplements, this episode breaks down complex biochemistry into actionable steps for optimising your health. Using real-world examples and clinical experience, we tackle common misconceptions about sunlight exposure in Australia and reveal why mastering the basics might be more powerful than advanced biohacking techniques. Key Topics: Red Light Therapy & Mitochondria: Exploring how red and near-infrared light directly impacts mitochondrial function through Complex IV and cytochrome c oxidase Sunlight & Health Beyond Vitamin D: Australia's sun exposure paradox and the broader impacts of sunlight on hormones, mood, and metabolic health Mitochondrial Psychobiology: Examining the connection between mitochondrial function and psychological health, including maternal inheritance patterns Nutritional Support for Mitochondria: Detailed analysis of how specific nutrients, including B vitamins, NAD+, and methylation support mitochondrial complexes Supplementation Strategies: Critical evaluation of supplements including methylated B vitamins, NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide), and NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) Hormetic Stressors: Overview of beneficial stressors including fasting, cold exposure, and exercise for optimising mitochondrial health Cold Therapy Progression: Practical guidance on introducing cold exposure, from face plunges to cold showers, with emphasis on appropriate progression for different health conditions Key Takeaways: Prioritise regular sunlight exposure as it directly activates mitochondria and influences hormones, mood, and metabolism beyond just vitamin D production. Begin cold exposure therapy with gentle face plunges or brief cold showers rather than jumping straight into ice baths, especially if dealing with chronic conditions. Incorporate regular fasting into your routine as a fundamental tool for optimising mitochondrial function and metabolic flexibility. Consider personalised B vitamin supplementation based on your individual genetic makeup and health requirements. Support your mitochondrial complexes through targeted nutrition, NAD support for Complex 1, and red light therapy for Complex 4 Master the fundamental health practices before advancing to more complex biohacking interventions. Include strategic exercise in your routine as it's a cornerstone of mitochondrial health and function. We continue exploring Genesis, focusing on Jacob's journey in Genesis 28:10-22! Come along with us as we explore what the Bible says about God and what that means for us.
Journey deep into your cellular powerhouses - the mitochondria - in this eye-opening episode of The Paul Taylor Podcast. I sit down with Dr. Christabelle Yeoh, an Integrative Medicine Physician, with over 20 years of experience in clinical care, as she reveals how these ancient cellular components govern everything from brain health to athletic performance, and why they might be the key to understanding conditions like depression, diabetes, and dementia. Discover the fascinating evolutionary link between fructose and energy regulation, explore cutting-edge insights about oxygen therapy, and learn practical strategies to optimise your cellular health. Whether you're battling chronic health issues or simply want to understand the hidden mechanisms controlling your wellbeing, this conversation offers revolutionary insights that bridge complex biology with actionable solutions. Join us as we challenge conventional medical wisdom and uncover a fresh perspective on health and healing. Key Topics: Integrative Medicine Journey: From conventional to integrative medicine, including pursuing advanced nutrition education after medical residency Metabolic Health & Disease Risk: Deep dive into metabolic syndrome's connection to major health conditions including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia Mitochondrial Function & Evolution: Understanding mitochondria's vital role in cellular health, energy production, and their ancient evolutionary origins Brain Energy & Mental Health: Exploring the brain's energy demands and how mitochondrial dysfunction impacts neurological and mental health conditions Fructose & Metabolic Crisis: Analysing Professor Richard Johnson's research on fructose consumption, genetic adaptations, and mitochondrial energy production Mitohormesis & Adaptive Stress: Understanding hormetic stressors and their beneficial effects on mitochondrial function and overall health Oxygen Therapy & Performance: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and intermittent hypoxia for chronic disease management and performance optimisation Key Takeaways: Look beyond blood glucose readings alone, as metabolic dysfunction can exist even with normal blood sugar levels. Request comprehensive metabolic testing as normal blood sugar levels don't guarantee metabolic health. Reduce processed fructose intake to protect mitochondrial function and maintain healthy energy production. Support your brain's high energy demands by prioritising mitochondrial health through lifestyle and nutrition choices. Start gradually introducing beneficial stressors like controlled exercise, fasting, or temperature variation to strengthen your mitochondria. Match your oxygen therapy to your health status: choose HBOT for chronic conditions or intermittent hypoxia for performance enhancement. Take preventive action against metabolic syndrome before symptoms appear to reduce risk of serious health conditions. Identify and eliminate lifestyle habits that force your body into chronic anaerobic metabolism. Weh Yeoh's Redundant Charities: Escaping the Cycle of Dependence (Koan Press, 2023) presents a transformative approach to charitable work. Drawing on his extensive experience in the non-profit sector, Yeoh argues that the ultimate goal of a charity should be to render itself unnecessary. He critiques the traditional charity model, which often perpetuates dependency and self-preservation, and instead advocates for organizations to implement clear exit strategies and focus on supporting local communities to solve their own problems. Yeoh asserts that success in charity work is measured by the ability to address root causes and sustainably transfer skills and resources to local populations, ensuring they can continue the work independently. This approach is exemplified by his own work founding OIC Cambodia, where he aimed to establish a sustainable speech therapy profession in Cambodia, ultimately handing over the leadership to local practitioners. The book is not just a critique but also offers practical guidance on how charities can shift towards this new model, challenging readers to rethink their strategies and align their missions with long-term, self-sustaining impact. “It's a good cause…or is it?”Is a charity worth supporting if it continues to exist perpetually? When does a charity ever end? In this podcast episode, Alexandra chats with Weh Yeoh about the social impact work he has done for close to two decades in his home country of Australia and internationally, and of course the journey of writing his first book “Redundant Charities.” He is the founder of OIC Cambodia, an initiative that aims to establish speech therapy as a profession in Cambodia. He started OIC in 2013, and handed over leadership to a local Cambodian team in 2017. He has since co-founded Umbo, a social enterprise bridging the gap for rural Australians to access allied health services. Weh has also volunteered trying to help people with disabilities in Vietnam, interned in India, studied Mandarin in Beijing, and milked yaks in Mongolia.Tune in and get insights on his personal story being brought up by parents from Malaysia and great grandparents from China, his take on what he thinks the charity sector could do better, and the three great tips he gives on how he works on making sure he separates his work identity from his personal identity. Finally, Weh gives us the nugget to try and do one thing differently: When we see a problem we are moved to act by compassion and emotion. When we decide what to do next there is a little moment between reaction to action and that is when the rational side of a human being needs to come in. It can't be about doing something just to do something. If you like what you hear, and/or would like to give us feedback on how we're doing, follow us at: https://beacons.ai/senornerdpodcast / senornerdpodcast @senornerdpod on Twitter Everything Everywhere All at Once is a 2022 American absurdist science-fiction comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who produced it with Anthony and Joe Russo and Jonathan Wang; the film incorporates elements from a number of genres and film mediums, including surreal comedy, science fiction, fantasy, martial arts films, immigrant narrative, and animation. Michelle Yeoh stars as Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who, while audited by the IRS, discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. The film also stars Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and James Hong in supporting roles. Kwan and Scheinert began work on the project in 2010. Production was announced in 2018, and principal photography ran from January to March 2020. The filmmakers initially sought Jackie Chan for the lead role before the script was revised to feature a female protagonist as part of a wife-husband duo. The works of Hong Kong film director Wong Kar-wai, as well as the children's book Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and the video game Everything, served as inspiration for several scenes. The soundtrack features compositions by Son Lux, including collaborations with Mitski, David Byrne, André 3000, John Hampson, and Randy Newman. The film explores philosophical themes such as existentialism, nihilism, surrealism, and absurdism, as well as themes such as neurodivergence, depr2ession, generational trauma, and Asian American identity. Everything Everywhere All at Once premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2022, and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on March 25, 2022, before a wide release by A24 on April 8. The film grossed over $141 million worldwide, becoming A24's highest-grossing film. It also won two Golden Globe Awards, five Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture), a BAFTA Award, a record four SAG Awards (including Best Ensemble), a record seven Independent Spirit Awards (including Best Feature), and swept the four major guild awards (DGA, PGA, SAG, and WGA). “To repress one's feelings only makes them stronger.” We watched Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" with our friend Nikolas Romero this week and our backs hurt just watching these stunts. Suffice it to say that we've been obsessed with Michelle Yeoh for over two decades and this movie is a huge reason why. She's been having a moment with her Best Actress Oscar win, but we've been on board this whole time. Chow Yun-Fat may be playing the greatest swordsman in China but its Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang's characters who walk away with the entire movie. Jen (Zhang) and Shu Lien (Yeoh) are really schooling us on gender roles in traditional society and their fight scenes are some of best we've seen. We also live for Jen's scorned master Jade Fox (Pei Pei Cheng), flying in and out of fight scenes like a wicked witch. Martial Arts movies may traidionally be a male dominated genre, but Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon shows it doesn't have to be that way.
