"The Nanny" is the result of a chance meeting between Fran Drescher and former president of CBS,  Jeff Sagansky on a transatlantic flight. On said flight Drescher was able to convince Sagansky to meet with her in LA to pitch a television show. Although at the time she didn't actually have a pitch in mind she eventually came up with an idea for a modern twist on "The Sound of Music". From this the Nanny was born and the Fran Drescher herself would be in the starring role playing a fashionista  turned nanny after a day of door to door cosmetic sales lands her at the house of a rich widowed Broadway producer. The Nanny would go on to be one of the biggest shows in the '90s. Despite all the show's success were they able to land all that TV magic in their pilot episode? What about the small things?    I have mentioned in an earlier episode of Daggers Of The Mind that it seems most of us blaze through life oblivious to the amazing wealth of information flowing over us like a river. They're always just turning on the television, but reading a good book is the most nourishing thing you can do.”   Before there was television or movies, before pictures moved on the screen and told you what to think, there were books. A book is an amazing exercise in the creative part of your brain. When you read a story, instead of being shown everything, your brain automatically begins to supply the details and fleshes out the scene described. These mental gymnastics that are so good for us now lay dormant much of the time.   We have given up the creative in order to just observe and be led along a path of someone else’s choosing. Instead of allowing our imaginations to supply the details we are told about, we just have it laid in our laps, very tidy and easy to consume. Not very good for expanding your mind and imagination.   Reading is such an amazing ability, and we forget how wonderful it is. But for others, it’s not so great.   Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are many in our society who never learned to read. I have a hard time imagining what it would be like to look at words that didn’t automatically read for me. What kind of world would that be where all this gibberish was everywhere and you couldn’t tell what was being said?   There are literacy programs that can help adults who never learned how to read. I think these are wonderful, but I think a way to stop the cycle is to instill a LOVE of reading in children. If you get them to a place that they want to read on their own without being forced as a school assignment, it is enough to change their lives forever. How many people do you know in this day and time who would actually point to their spouse in public and say how great they are? Except as a political cause, marriage has taken quite a hit in importance over the last few decades, mainly because the divorce rate has made a mockery of it as an institution. The evidence that marriage has been so great is because most people have at least 2 or 3 of them in their lifetime. While Mr. Shaughnessy is known in public blogging to call down death, destruction, pestilence or in the very least imprisonment on all who disagree with him politically, it is commendable that the tenderness with which he regards his marriage relationship is just as intense as his political fervor. In addition to this, the trait he values and praises most highly in her is integrity. We are talking about truthfulness, moral and ethical principles, and honesty. He declares she has more integrity than anyone else he knows, and that integrity is the most important ingredient to insure happiness and success in this life. Have you ever been lied to? Of course you have. Most of us have a boss who would trade our well-being for a chance to look ever so slightly better in the eyes of their superiors. Bosses by reputation rank right up there with lawyers and politicians as being the most blatant liars on the planet. How do you treat someone who is likely to lie to you? You aren’t apt to trust them often are you? Another interesting thing is that a person can be trustworthy all their lives and then a single incident of lying at your expense is enough for you to never trust them again. On the other side, if a person is known as a chronic liar, a single selfless act of telling the truth is not enough to help that reputation. It could take years of integrity to repair. It may not be possible at all. Profound integrity is not only praiseworthy, it is absolutely essential for personal relationships to flourish, thus Mr. Shaughnessy’s mention of happiness, and also for the success that we all seek. Success takes many forms, but most people think of economic or financial success. How many people will continue to deal with you if you don’t live up to agreements and contracts you have entered into? Legal trouble or in the very least, loss of the business relationships leading to financial reverses can result. These principles not only apply to the business owner, but also those of us who work for that aforementioned “demon boss”. Somehow many feel that it is OK to slack on the job or even not work at all while on the clock because the moral shortcomings of our superiors license us to not use integrity in dealing with the company that boss works for. The wealth I have obtained on the other hand is worth more to me than mere cash, and is a legacy I can take with me when I die. Emmy Award winning actor Charles Shaughnessy (Days of Our Lives, The Nanny) and his brother, Emmy Award winning producer David Shaughnessy (The Young and the Restless) produce the show along with Lissa.  She has written several books, TV segments and articles -- ranging from topics such as parental advice, finding closure, spiritual practice and exercise.

Charles Shaughnessy is best known to television audiences as Shane Donovan from NBC Daytime's "Days of our Lives," as well as Maxwell Sheffield from the sitcom, "The Nanny." Shaughnessy's portrayal of Shane alongside former co-star Patsy Pease (Kim Brady) was loved by the fans and was deemed a supercouple. He reprised the role in May 2010 in a storyline associated with Alice Horton/Frances Reid's passing. Shaughnessy would then go on to play Maxwell Sheffield on "The Nanny" alongside Fran Drescher.  He then would reunite with Drescher on the former WB show, "Living with Fran" as Fran's ex-husband. Shaughnessy can currently be seen in the popular web series, "THE BAY."
