(Feb 5, 2021) On this month's episode of North Country Bookmarks, we're in conversation with three authors who explore relationships in unique ways. We'll also celebrate Black History Month with an author whose work seeks to inspire kids and educators.
(Aug 7, 2020) Close your eyes and imagine the very place you’d like to be right now if travel, safety and money weren’t a problem. What book would you have in your hands?
(Jul 4, 2020) Uncomfortable. That's the most accurate word I can think of to describe my feelings on July's episode of North Country Bookmarks. But what comes from my uncomfortable self? Change. Growth. Understanding.
(Jun 5, 2020) We all know I read (a lot) - and that happened even without quarantine. But with more time to ourselves and everyone needing an escape, books have been a pretty large staple in the COVID-19 Pandemic. So, I hereby declare the June episode of North Country Bookmarks "Best of Quarantine Edition!"
(May 1, 2020) Kennedy Elementary School in Ogdensburg has a pretty remarkable entrance, but, so are the third graders in Kim Marshall's classroom. I was able to record quite a few of them, as well as Kim, and Riley Luckie, who happened to be a substitute teacher that day.
(Apr 3, 2020) I'm writing this from the island in my kitchen, which is vastly different from my office at NCPR. I can't yell down the hall to Mitch ("does this make sense?!?" I likely would ask) or tell Ethan to come read over my shoulder ("I need your opinion..." I would say).
(Mar 6, 2020) Book clubs. We’ve heard about them. We see them in our communities. We might know a few participants in them. So this month, I decided to take on book clubs on North Country Bookmarks.
(Mar 6, 2020) Lisbon, NY is a small community with a pretty big heart. When I pulled up to the school, the brightly colored parking spots immediately grabbed my attention. I knew it was a special place. Once I was inside, I was greeted by Lauren Morley and Staci Vaughn, the principals of Lisbon Central School District. I was escorted into a really fantastic library, with a reserved room where I could record students.
(Feb 7, 2020) I remember friends who only read what was required, and nothing more. They weren’t interested in reading for fun. Textbooks aren’t my thing. Assigned reading was more my speed, and free reading was most certainly my favorite part of English classes growing up. That’s why I wanted to dig deeper and find out what other people enjoyed in their middle/high school years.
