POSTGAME: TITANS Defeat CARDINALS 22-21....in an INCREDIBLE ComeBack Victory!! GLENDALE, AZ ― Well, how about that: The Tennessee Titans won a football game. They put their 10-game losing streak to bed with a 22-21 comeback versus the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Oct. 5, getting coach Brian Callahan and quarterback Cam Ward their first win as a tandem. The Titans (1-4) trailed by 15 points for most of the game and looked poised to go down three scores in the fourth quarter on a long Arizona run, but a mental mistake turned what should've been six Arizona points into Titans football. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward responded with a scoring drive. Then the Titans defense forced a quick stop. Then the Titans scored a touchdown on a play that started with a Cardinals interception. Suddenly the score was 21-19 with a little under five minutes to play, and the Titans needing a stop to finish the comeback. Arizona drained some clock, but the defense came up with its stop, getting the ball back to the offense with 1:53 left and no timeouts from the Titans' own 18-yard line. After a couple quick completions, Ward found tight end Chig Okonkwo for 16 yards to get the team near midfield and then a 38-yard dagger to receiver Calvin Ridley to get the Titans well into kicker Joey Slye's range. Slye connected on a 29-yard field goal to win the game. Looking for a free mini puzzle? Play the USA TODAY Quick Cross now. What the heck happened there? Ward nearly threw the game away. At the 4:53 mark in the fourth quarter, Ward dropped back on a third-and-2 from the Cardinals' 20-yard line trailing by nine points. An incompletion wouldn't have been the worst thing; the Titans could've easily kicked a field goal from there and made it a one-score game. But Ward forced a pass to Ridley into a tight window and was intercepted by safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, seemingly ending the Titans' threat. Not so fast. Taylor-Demerson went to the ground untouched after the interception and couldn't keep control of the football. Madness ensued. Several Cardinals tripped and kicked the ball backward trying to recover the fumble. Titans receiver Tyler Lockett squeezed ahead and landed on the ball in the end zone. Touchdown, Lockett's first as a Titan. Cam Ward stats: One gutsy quarter Ward was erratic, late on several throws and couldn't find any rhythm on deep shots. He only completed 5 of his 16 attempts in the first half, finishing with just 58 passing yards. Factor in sacks, and the Titans only netted 42 yards through the air before halftime, with the offense stalling across midfield three times. Get the 4th and Monday newsletter in your inbox. Expert guide of the week's NFL action, game results and must-see moments. Delivery: Mon Your Email For a brief moment in the fourth quarter, Ward showed signs of life. With the Titans trailing 21-6, Ward orchestrated a six-play, 80-yard drive headlined by a 47-yard deep crosser to Ridley that got the Titans into the red zone for the first time in eight quarters and a 19-yard rainbow to tight end Gunnar Helm perfectly lofted over Helm's outside shoulder that set up a 1-yard Tony Pollard touchdown. Ward finished the day 21-for-39 with 265 yards and an interception. Ridley caught five passes for 131 yards. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Tennessee #Titans and Arizona #Cardinals meet in Week 5 action in Glendale, Arizona, this Sunday. The two teams have met a total of 12 times, with the Cardinals winning eight of those matchups. The #TITANUP look to change that this week, but it won't be an easy task. The Cardinals are an unpredictable team that keeps games close regardless of whether they win or lose. The Titans have shown flashes of potential, but have been unable to capitalize on much of anything. The matchup between these teams provides some intriguing fantasy football options on both sides of the ball. Let's take a look at some players to start and sit in fantasy football from this Week 5 matchup. Start: TE Trey McBride, Arizona Trey McBride has been Kyler Murray's top target all season. Marvin Harrison Jr. is making a case for himself as well, but McBride leads the Cardinals with 234 receiving yards. The Titans' defense struggles in the middle third, so if Murray targets McBride there, he could end up averaging 13 yards per catch like he did against the Carolina Panthers. Sit: WR Calvin Ridley, Tennessee This was a tough decision. Ridley hasn't played well through the first four weeks of the season. He has 10 receptions on 24 targets for 141 yards, a 41% catch rate, and zero touchdowns. He will be targeted this week against a weak Cardinals' secondary, but trusting him to catch the ball is a risk right now. If you truly need a receiver from this team, grab Elic Ayomanor. He has 12 receptions on 25 targets for 151 yards and a touchdown. His catch rate is still under 50%, but it's higher than Ridley's. Start: QB Kyler Murray, Arizona The Titans' defense struggles mightily against the run and has not been good at getting pressure on the quarterback. That could change this week with Jeffery Simmons set to take advantage of Evan Brown, who has struggled to gain leverage and anchor. This will cause Murray to roll out more often than he would like, which also means he will run with the ball more often than he'd like. With the Cardinals using their third-and fourth-string running backs, Murray becomes the focal point of the run game. Start: RB Tony Pollard, Tennessee If there's anything about the Titans' offense that is good, it's Tony Pollard. Okay, that's not really fair, but Pollard is the most reliable offensive player the Titans have. He is a volume back; he's not going to average five yards per carry like Christian McCaffrey, but he will get plenty of touches. And, he's one of the first players to find the end zone for Tennessee regularly. The Cardinals' run defense is solid, ranking in the top 10, but Pollard is essentially the Titans' entire run game right now. He will get his yards this week. Start: WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Trey McBride may be the top-targeted player so far, but Harrison is making a case for himself to be Murray's favorite. He's also facing a Titans' secondary that has allowed six passing touchdowns and ranks 22nd versus wide receivers. In his second year, Harrison is finding his footing and learning to fully implement his talents on the field. He will get his targets this week, and he's likely to give L'Jarius Sneed a run for his money when he does catch the ball. Sleeper: RB Emari Demercado, Arizona The starting running back by default, Demercado, is in his third season in the NFL. Trey Benson was placed on injured reserve this week, and James Conner was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury, which is how Demercado ended up the starting running back. He has just four carries in 2025, but as the lead back, he will get 12-15 touches on Sunday. The Titans' run defense is fifth-worst in the NFL, which means that Demercado could have a breakout game. POSTGAME: Titans LOSE to the COLTS 41-20 - 0-3....WHY????????????? NASHVILLE – Titans fans will not want to remember the 21st day of this September. That's because the Colts came to town and had way too much fun while handing the Titans a 41-20 loss at Nissan Stadium. The Titans were forced to play catch up from the start on Sunday, and they couldn't do it.Now they're faced with having to dig out of a hole after falling to 0-3 on the season.Titans quarterback Cam Ward completed 23-of-38 passes for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He was sacked four times in the contest. On defense, the Titans couldn't stop the Colts. Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor ran for 102 yards and three touchdowns, and quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 228 yards and a score. The Titans couldn't sustain drives, and kicked too many field goals.Once again, it was not a recipe for success.Sunday's game got off to an ominous start, as the Colts returned Ward's first interception of the season for a touchdown on the game's opening series. It was Kenny Moore who stepped in front of a Ward pass intended for Tony Pollard, and he returned it 33 yards to make it 7-0 just 49 seconds into the game. The Titans got three points back in less than two minutes, however, when kicker Joey Slye made a 57-yard field goal to cap off a short drive. The Colts then scored 10 straight point, first on a 24-yard field goal by kicker Spencer Shrader, and then on a one-yard touchdown run by Taylor to make it 17-3.Another Slye field goal, this one from 42 yards, made it 17-6 with 10:50 left in the second quarter. The two teams both missed field goals in the second quarter, including a 64-yard attempt by Slye, which was his first miss of the season.Slye later missed another long field goal after a forgettable possession late in the first half, and the Colts kicked another field goal to lead 20-6 at the half.Things got worse, before they got better. And on this day, things never really got better. The Colts stretched the lead to 27-6 on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jones to receiver Michael Pittman early in the third quarter. The Titans answered with a long scoring drive of their own, and capped it off with a one-yard touchdown run by Pollard to make it 27-13 with 5:09 left in the third quarter. But a 46-yard touchdown run by Taylor made it 34-13 Colts with 1:27 left in the third quarter.Ward then directed a 16-play, 77-yard drive that he capped off with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Elic Ayomanor to make it 34-20 with 8:40 left in the contest before another touchdown run by Taylor made it 41-20 with 5:53 left. The Titans return to action next Sunday at the Houston Texans. POSTGAME: Titans LOSE to the RAMS 33-19....starting 0-2...WHY???? NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Matthew Stafford threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns and the Los Angeles Rams spoiled rookie Cam Ward's NFL home opener, scoring 20 straight points to beat the Tennessee Titans 33-19 Sunday. Wide receiver Puka Nacua also ran 45 yards for a touchdown. Davante Adams had 106 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. Joshua Karty also kicked two field goals. The Rams (2-0) sacked the No. 1 overall draft pick five times. Linebacker Byron Young had two, and he also stripped Ward of the ball at the Titans 21 on his second sack. Tennessee, which led 13-10 at halftime, was up 16-13 when the Rams made their almost perfunctory comeback. Stafford put the Rams ahead to stay with an 8-yard TD pass to Davis Allen late in the third quarter. After Ward's fumble, Stafford needed three plays to put the Rams up 27-16 with 9:40 left on a 16-yard TD pass to Davante Adams. Blake Corum added a 1-yard TD run with 6:45 left. The Titans (0-2) now have lost eight straight going back to last season. They didn't have right tackle JC Latham or nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat. John Ojukwu, promoted from the practice squad Saturday, replaced Latham. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

No. 1 pick Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans dropped their season opener on the road Saturday, falling to the Denver Broncos 12-20. In his historic debut, Ward completed 12-of-28 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns while taking six sacks, as all 12 of Tennessee's points came from kicker Joey Slye. Tony Pollard rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries and added one catch for 29 yards. Calvin Ridley finished with four receptions for 27 yards. On the other side, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix also struggled, throwing two interceptions while completing 25-of-40 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. J.K. Dobbins ran for 63 yards and a touchdown, and Courtland Sutton added a receiving score. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

ATLANTA (AP) Kendell Brooks scored on a 53-yard interception return and rookie quarterback Cameron Ward had mixed results as the Tennessee Titans beat the Atlanta Falcons 23-20 in a preseason game Friday night. Joey Slye's 23-yard field goal with 9:03 remaining gave Tennessee (1-1) the lead. Falcons backup quarterback Emory Jones was stopped on a fourth-down run near the Tennessee 20 with 2:57 remaining. Jones was shaken up on the hit by linebacker Amari Burney and cornerback Jemari Harris. Jones walked off the field with assistance. Ward played three series and completed 2 of 7 passes for 42 yards. Ward's highlight was a 35-yard completion to Elic Ayomanor on the Titans' opening series. Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, had another long pass dropped by Van Jefferson. The teams traded third-quarter touchdowns. Jemar Jefferson's 16-yard scoring run, which capped a 13-play drive, gave the Titans a 20-13 lead. Easton Stick, who played the first three quarters for Atlanta, threw a 52-yard scoring pass to Chris Blair to tie the game. Brandon Allen, who played behind Ward, threw a 25-yard scoring pass to tight end Gunnar Helm late in the first half. Nathan Carter produced the Falcons' first touchdown with a 43-yard run in the third quarter. Younghoe Koo kicked field goals of 42 and 36 yards for Atlanta (0-2). Among the Titans held out on offense were RB Tony Pollard, WRs Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett, RG Kevin Zeitler. Center Lloyd Cushenberry, who passed his physical Monday as he continues his return from an Achilles tendon injury, participated in pregame drills but did not play. Atlanta's top two quarterbacks, starter Michael Penix Jr. and backup Kirk Cousins, sat out for the second straight preseason game after receiving the bulk of the snaps in team drills in two joint practices against the Titans this week. RB Bijan Robinson and WRs Drake London and Ray-Ray McCloud also were spectators. Falcons rookie edge rusher Jalon Walker was held out after playing last week in a 17-10 loss to Detroit. The game completed a string of nine nights away from home for the Titans, who had a joint practice at Tampa Bay last week before their 29-7 loss to the Buccaneers. Trevor Siemian, who was signed Monday, took over at quarterback for Tennessee in the fourth quarter and led the drive capped by Slye's go-ahead field goal. Siemian spent much of 2024 on the Titans' practice squad. He replaced Tim Boyle, who was released after completing only 4 of 13 passes for 24 yards with two interceptions against the Buccaneers. Stick, competing for Atlanta's No. 3 quarterback job, completed 15 of 25 passes for 145 yards with one touchdown and the one interception returned for a touchdown by Brooks. Allen completed 11 of 14 passes for 119 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Titans: Following two road games, the Titans host Minnesota next Friday night. Learn more about your ad choices. Aug 9, 2025 #Buccaneers #Titans #TennesseeTAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Cam Ward's pro debut was solid, if unspectacular. The first overall pick in this year's NFL draft completed five of eight passes for 67 yards, but more importantly was composed and looked comfortable running Tennessee's offense in the Titans' 29-7 preseason-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night. Two days after working against the #Buccaneers defense in a joint practice at Tampa Bay's training facility, Ward played three offensive series, including an impressive second-quarter touchdown drive that gave the #Titans a glimpse of what the franchise is counting on to be a bright future with him at quarterback. The 6-foot-2, 219-pound rookie completed three passes to Calvin Ridley to account for all but 15 yards on the 11-play, 65-yard TD drive Tony Pollard finished with a 1-yard scoring run. That came after the #Tennessee offense spent more than 14 minutes of the opening quarter on the sideline while Tampa Bay was building a 10-0 lead and a whopping 143-5 advantage in total yardage while running 22 plays to Tennessee's 3. Ward began his team's only scoring drive with a 27-yard completion over the middle to a wide-open Ridley and later led his target cutting across the middle again with a nice throw for a 13-yard gain into Tampa Bay territory. The rookie got away with his worst throw of the night when #Bucs cornerback Josh Hayes made a nice adjustment on a sideline throw intended for receiver Elic Ayomanor but was unable to hang on to the ball for an interception. Ward, who had no turnovers and was not sacked, left the game after leading one more drive that ended with a punt. Backup Brandon Allen entered to kneel down on the final play of the first half, then shared playing time after halftime with Tim Boyle. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

#TITANS #TITANUP #JAGUARS #duuuval In a game that mattered only to the 2025 NFL draft order, the Titans won by losing. The Jaguars beat the Titans 20-13, which improves the Jaguars' record to 4-12 and drops the Titans to 3-13. The Titans remain in contention for the first overall pick heading into Week 18. Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones played reasonably well, outplaying Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph. Neither team appeared to be tanking in the sense of actually trying to lose, but neither of these teams needs to tank to look bad. They're two of the worst teams in the league, and for their fans, the biggest question is whether they can address their major needs this offseason and put a competitive team on the field in 2025. Next week both teams will close out their disappointing 2024 seasons, and begin the process of preparing for the 2025 NFL draft. When the Titans may be looking for a franchise quarterback, and today's loss may have helped in that quest. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
POSTGAME: TITANS LOSE 38-30 to the COLTS! Are the TITANS Soft....or NOT? Draft CHANGES. #TITANS #COLTS #FORTHESHOE #titanup The Tennessee Titans continue their December woes with a 38-30 loss to the Indianapolis Colts that was considerably worse than the final score line despite a fourth-quarter comeback attempt. Indianapolis led 38-7 at one point in the third quarter after the Colts scored 38 straight, but 23 unanswered points by the Titans forced Indianapolis to run a four-minute offense to close the game out. Tennessee (3-12) was done in by the Colts' 24-point second quarter. Jonathan Taylor finished with 218 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Tennessee's defense allowed 335 rushing yards overall. #TITANS #TITANUP #JAGUARS #duuuval In a game that was meaningless in the playoff race but meaningful in the 2025 NFL draft order, the Jaguars beat the Titans 10-6 in Tennessee today. That could be big for the race to get the first overall pick in the draft, as the Jaguars headed into today's game at 2-10 and in the driver's seat to pick first overall, while the Titans were 3-9 and projected for the seventh pick in 2025. Now both the Jaguars and the Titans are 3-10, and the race for the first pick is wide open, with the Raiders and Giants currently having the best chance. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is the betting favorite to go first overall. The game itself wasn't particularly notable, as neither quarterback, Jacksonville's Mac Jones or Tennessee's Will Levis, did much of anything. It was as ugly as you'd expect from two bad teams. But someone had to win, and that someone was the Jaguars. Which is a loss, if you'd rather get a higher pick than win a December game between two bad teams. Learn more about your ad choices. The Titans are also coming off a game when they committed 12 penalties for 93 yards. The Titans are rank second in the NFL in penalties, with 100 on the season. The team ranks fifth in the NFL in penalty yards, with 758 yards through 12 games. The Titans have also made a number of blunders in the return game, turning the ball over. This week, Coach Brian Callahan mentioned Mason Kinsey as a possibility to replace Jha'Quan Jackson on punts, but he wasn't ready to announce an official move after practice on Friday. If the change is in fact made, will it cure some of the recent woes there? Stay tuned. This much is certain: The Titans need to clean up their mistakes to enhance their chances of winning. Importance of Week 14 Callahan said before the Washington game his team wasn't dead yet. Now at 3-9, let's face it, things aren't looking good. The Titans haven't been eliminated from playoff contention yet, but it's close. On Sunday, the Titans are a 3 ½-point favorite over the Jaguars. Another nugget: The Titans are 19-6 against the Jaguars at home since 1999. Tennessee is looking to become the fourth team with 20 or more home wins against an opponent since 1999, joining the Packers (20 vs Lions), Vikings (20 vs Lions) and Steelers (23 vs Browns). For draft fans, this is a stat I'll now start to include: The Titans are currently projected to hold the eighth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while the Jaguars are protected to hold the third overall pick. The outcome of Sunday's game will change things. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
#TITANS #TITNAUP #commanders It was a difficult day for the Tennessee Titans in a 42-19 loss against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. By the time Levis and the Titans offense had their first snap inside of Commanders territory, there was less than a minute remaining in the first half with Washington holding a 28-0 lead at home. The Washington Commanders ended their three-game losing streak, opening up a large lead and holding on at home against the Tennessee Titans, 42-19. After needing just three plays to score on their first possession, capped by a 40-yard touchdown run by Brian Robinson Jr., the Commanders jumped to a 28-0 lead before Tennessee scored the game's next 13 points. Quarterback Jayden Daniels passed for three touchdowns, two of them to Terry McLaurin, and also ran for a score. Led by Robinson's 103, the Commanders rushed for 267 yards on 45 carries. #TITANS #TITANUP #COMMANDERS #WASHINGTON Fresh off a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Commanders are looking to snap their three-game skid on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee pulled off a massive upset in Week 12, knocking off CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans to pick up its third win of the season, and first with Will Levis under center for the entire game. Just three weeks ago, the Commanders were in the lead in the NFC East, but they've dropped three games in a row to fall to 7-5 and are now in danger of missing the playoffs in the NFC. While the Titans aren't a great team, they do have a tough defense that ranks third in the NFL in yards per play allowed and 12th in EPA/Play. Oddsmakers have the Commanders set as 5.5-point favorites in this game, but can they cover the spread at home and snap their losing streak? Learn more about your ad choices. #TITANS #TITANUP #WeAreTexans The team's 32-27 win over the Texans was the team's fifth win in the past six games in Houston. Titans fans, some of them decked out in Oilers gear, celebrated as Texans fans headed to the exits. In what's been a frustrating season, this was a nice highlight. The Titans are 3-8, but on this day, it was fun to celebrate. In Houston. Titans quarterback Will Levis threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, with an interception. He was sacked eight times in the contest. The Titans survived some of their own mistakes to win in. It was an ominous start for the Titans. Texans returner Dameon Pierce returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to the Titans 19-yard line, and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud connected with tight end Cade Stover for a touchdown on Houston's first offensive play to make it 7-0 just 18 seconds left in the contest. But the Titans responded with back-to-back-back scores of their own, starting with a 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk, which made it 7-3 with 11:15 left in the first quarter. After a defensive stop, Levis then executed a beautiful, 10-play, 89-yard touchdown drive that he capped off with a 38-yard touchdown pass to receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, which made it 10-7. The Titans converted a fourth-down on the drive, on a keeper from Levis. When the Titans got the ball back after another defensive stop, on their own five-yard line, Levis guided the Titans 95 yards on six plays. A 63-yard pass to receiver Calvin Ridley jumpstarted the drive, and a 10-yard touchdown run by running back Tony Pollard capped it off to make it 17-7 with 11:03 left in the second quarter. The Texans cut the lead to 17-14 on a five-yard touchdown pass from Stroud to Nico Collins with 6:17 left in the second quarter. Following a critical fumble on a botched exchange from Levis to Pollard, the Texans tied the game on a field goal by Ka'imi Fairbairn to make it 17-17 with 3:24 left before halftime. The Titans kept swinging. And, after an interception by rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Folk nailed a 56-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to give the Titans a 20-17 lead at the break. Levis was 11-of-12 for 177 yards and a touchdown at the half, but he was sacked seven times. The Titans got more points on a Folk field goal to start the second half. It was another 51-yarder by Folk, this one capping an 11-play, 41-yard drive, to give the Titans a 23-17 lead at the 9:08 mark of the third quarter. After Titans linebacker Kenneth Muray intercepted Stroud in Houston territory, it looked like the Titans might take control of the game. But disaster struck not long after, as Levis was intercepted by Texans safety Jimmie Ward, and he returned it 65 yards for a touchdown to give Houston a 24-23 lead after three quarters. Another special teams faux pas – a fumble by returner Jha'Quan Jackson – served up another short field for the Texans, giving them the ball at the Tennessee 43. The Texans cashed that in for three more points on another Fairbairn field goal, this one from 54 yards, to take a 27-23 lead with 9:46 remaining in the game. But the Titans got off the mat, in grand fashion. Tight end Chig Okonkwo caught short pass from Levis, and turned it into 70-yard touchdown by outracing a host of Texans defenders to the end zone to make it 30-27 with 9:35 left. Fairbairn missed a short field goal late that would have tied it. Jeffery Simmons had a critical sack late before Titans edge Harold Landry recorded a safety in the closing minutes to seal the win. And, the Titans celebrated in Houston, once again. The Titans return to action next Sunday at the Washington Commanders. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
LIVE CHOP UP: Texans vs Titans - AFC South SHOWDOWN The Houston Texans appear to be walking to an AFC South title after they knocked off the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football to improve to 7-4 on the season. In Week 12, they'll take on a two-win Tennessee Titans team that has dropped two games in a row and is just 1-4 straight up on the road so far this season. Tennessee hasn't gotten great quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph, making it a tough team to bet on – even as a major underdog. This is the first of two meetings this season between these AFC South rivals, as they'll also face off in Week 18. Using the latest odds and analysis, I'm attempting to predict the final score of this matchup, which will hopefully give bettors an idea of which side – or a total – to bet on Sunday. #TITANS #SKOL #TITANUP #vikings The Titans' defense has played better than its points allowed numbers would suggest, and it could keep things tight for a while by forcing the Vikings to settle for short completions like they had to do last week. Given how difficult young quarterbacks have found it to face this defense, though, it's hard to see Levis turning out to be the one with the answer, especially as he plays behind an overmatched offensive line that could be without right tackle Leroy Watson. The Vikings' defense will make the difference in this one, as it did in Jacksonville last week. Can the TITANS WIN? It's possible.....but not very likely. The VIKINGS are 7-2 with a primed defense and playmakers on offense. We shall see.....if the TITANS are able to overcome. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
#TITANS #TITANUP #CHARGERS #TITANS #TITANUP #CHARGERS #lachargers INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- — The combination of steady play by Justin Herbert and a strong defense has given the Los Angeles Chargers their best start in six years. Herbert threw for a touchdown and ran for one, and the Chargers had seven sacks in their third straight victory, 27-17 over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Chargers are 6-3 — their best start since going 7-2 in 2018 — and have won four of five to surpass last season's victory total. “A complete, total team win. When you look at the offense, the drives that we put together ... tough, gritty type of conversions on third down and fourth down,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “They're playing lights out on the defensive side. And then special teams, another big return by our punt return unit.” Herbert completed 14 of 18 passes for 164 yards and had 32 yards rushing. He is the seventh quarterback since the NFL-AFL merger, and the first since Philip Rivers in 2018, to have a passer rating of at least 90 in each of the first nine games of the season. The defense — which is allowing a league-low 13.1 points per game — is the fourth since 1990 and the first since the 2013 Kansas City Chiefs to allow 20 or fewer points in each of its first nine games. “Rush and coverage. We have some of the best rushers in the league and that allows us to make plays,” safety Derwin James said. The Titans (2-7) came in with the NFL's top-ranked defense overall and against the pass but forced Los Angeles to go three-and-out only twice in nine possessions. Calvin Ridley scored both of Tennessee's touchdowns and had five catches for 84 yards. Will Levis, who missed the last three games with a shoulder injury, was 18 of 23 for 175 yards, but the sacks limited his effectiveness. “It was a nice start. It was cool to get the ball downfield and get that shot dialed up, something we've been waiting on," Levis said. "Second half, I think for me personally, a couple situations where I could have just got the ball out of my hands earlier, help the line with pressure." Herbert gave the Chargers a 13-7 lead with 1:55 remaining in the first half on a 4-yard run off right tackle out of the shotgun formation on fourth-and-1. “I thought we did a great job from start to the end being able to move the ball, run the ball, pass the ball however we needed to move it,” Herbert said. “I thought the guys up front did an incredible job and to be able to put that together against a very good opponent, it means a lot to me.” The game turned with 21 seconds remaining in the first half. The Titans appeared to tie it at 13 when Roger McCreary ran back Herbert's fumble 20 yards into the end zone. After a replay review, the call was changed to an incomplete pass because officials determined Herbert's arm was going forward, leaving Titans coach Brian Callahan incensed. Callahan said officials initially told him the call was going to stand before they and the replay center in New York took another look. “I'll let you guys decide what you think the call should have been, but I don't want to lose any money,” he said. Harbaugh and Herbert said the reversal was huge. “To be able to go to halftime with the lead and to avoid a play like that is big time,” Herbert said. And then the Chargers took control in the second half. Herbert extended the lead to 20-10 with three minutes to go in the third quarter on a 16-yard pass to Quentin Johnston in the right corner of the end zone. Hassan Haskins, who spent two seasons with Tennessee, extended the advantage to 17 points with a 1-yard dive up the middle. That capped an 11-play, 95-yard drive that ate up seven minutes. “It was just steady. It's like death by a thousand paper cuts when you play that way, and we kind of gave up just enough yards every time on a 95-yard drive to allow them to go punch it in for seven when we had them backed up on the 5,” Callahan said. #TITANS #TITANUP #CHARGERS The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers each boast one of the strongest defenses in the NFL, meaning not much scoring should be expected this weekend. However, despite their strong defense, the Chargers have seen their offensive output increase drastically as of late. Thanks to high-level play from quarterback Justin Herbert, the emergence of rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey, and the consistent production of running back J.K. Dobbins, the Chargers have bolted to a 5-3 record, good for second-place in the AFC West. The Titans haven't had similar luxuries, struggling to find their footing on offense with quarterbacks Will Levis and Mason Rudolph. The departure of star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has not helped either. However, thanks to their very strong secondary, the Titans have managed to keep a lot of games close, having lost half of their games by just one possession. Learn more about your ad choices.
