It's not quite the Canadian Grand Prix review we promised is it? But please join us for a leisurely chat about the Belgian GP, rain, Perez's bad form, McLaren's good form and our lives over the past few weeks! There's even a double-dose of predictions coming in thanks to the sprint weekend... Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Winging It F1 Podcast! It's been a while with both of us busy, but we're back now and hopefully things will be a bit more back to normal minus the Nigel. Well this is strange. There's plenty to talk about around Nyck de Vries' AlphaTauri future and the Emilia Romagna GP at Imola, but the most important thing is the elephant that's only going to be in the room for one more race. With that said, take it away Nige:So is this the last episode Nigel is appearing on? Spoiler, yes it is. I (Nigel) just wanna say a massive thank you to anyone who's listened or watched the podcast over the last three years. It's one of the biggest achievements I've ever done and to do it for nearly three years is amazing. Adam and Freddie both know how much I respect and appreciate what they have done, they have edited 96% of these podcasts and I've done the easy bit of talking about a sport we all love. Take care, put some effort in, see what happens. Nigel. We also want to send the best wishes to everyone affected by the flooding in the region as well including those who have travelled for the race this weekend. We hope everyone stays as safe as possible.Twitters https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool & Ferrari Media Centre ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
There was a load to discuss in this Grand Prix and a load of opinions on the pod, which made each topic even more interesting. We hope you enjoy our ramblings and our random points. Now there's a turn-up for the books, we think Checo would've won that without the lucky safety car. Now that's a story. Shame there weren't any overtakes and it was just a procession, but still, shorter episodes keep the upload speed down lol. After a very long April break, F1 is back in Baku! Which is great for us as there's only so much you can debate what James Allison's return means to Mercedes, and instead we've got an exciting (or not, depending on whether your name's Nigel) new sprint weekend format to talk about! Will it make the racing any better? Is it trying to put lipstick on a pig if F1 doesn't improve its general quality of racing? How many Taylor Swift songs can you name in one F1 podcast? All will be discussed...Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
Since we're basically in the middle of F1's spring break, we're doing some classic off-season/summer break/now spring break content in looking at some of the winners and losers of the opening three races of 2023. Do you agree with our picks?Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool/McLaren Media Centre ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
Australia served up! Three red flags, 12 finishers and waiting an hour to watch a safety car parade for a lap, the Australian Grand Prix really had it all. There was even a trademark Verstappen rant, a chance at a Mercedes win (?) and an Alpine meltdown to add into the mix. Alongside discussing all of that, we touch on a positive pointless weekend from Ferrari and McLaren finally showing some signs of life. Lots to cover!Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
G'day mate! Obligatory Australianisms over and done with, there's the F1 news cycling that's kept plodding on with Porsche officially announcing they're not joining F1, and a reshuffle at McLaren to extend their 'wait until 202X then we'll be great' period even further. Also Melbourne's back and in need of a decent race to get it back in F1 fans' good books - or does it?Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
That race happened didn't it. We did our little run through and reviewed what happened and were left feeling very hmm yes. That doesn't take away from the job Red Bull did
One race into a season that Max Verstappen's seemingly already been crowned champion of, we get our first chance to see the 2023 F1 cars on a different track and once again get our hopes up that Red Bull surely can't be THAT dominant.Freddie's living it up in the French Alps this week but we're not letter that stop us, we've got a special guest of our own to give his opinions on Verstappen, Alonso, 2021 and the 6 Nations...⚡️ Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Red Bull Content Pool ❤️ Intro: © Williams Racing
Race one ✅ 22 to go..how many will Max Verstappen win? How many will Fernando Alonso win?
The 2023 F1 season is here! There's lots to discuss from the first qualifying of the season for Adam and Nigel: Red Bull are dominant but is it by as much as expected? Why were Ferrari sandbagging that much? Weren't Aston Martin meant to be better? And what on earth is going on behind the frontrunners? Ok, so testing threw up some questions, we knew it would. We have no answers yet either. But that didn't stop us having a stab at the pecking order, why wouldn't we!? Here we react to each team's showing in Bahrain ahead of the race. Later this week, we will predict the championship and the race winner but for now, have a snapshot of the form based on the three days of running we've had! ⚡️ Twitters: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1 ⚡️ Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJourno ⚡️ Freddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999 ⚡️ Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 ⚡️ Thumbnail: © Aston Martin
Taking a break from F1 just for a week, we have a look at Formula 2 and Formula 3 ahead of their curtain raiser in Bahrain next week. We give our championship predictions and some drivers to watch out for, and ask why the F2 calendar has a nearly three-month gap before the end of the season. There's also a guest appearance from Ollie Bearman
That it folks, we've now seen the entire 2023 F1 grid. And a lot of it's black, as all five teams from this week have made weight-saving measures. We give a little preview for Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren and Alpine and there's some bonus analysis of drivers on TikTok.Twitter: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJournoFreddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01 Hosted on Acast. Freddie fans turn off now because it's just Adam and Nigel this week, to preview how Williams, Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri will do in 2023. The paddock for the opening round of the 2023 F1 World Championship may smell slightly of beef given the last week of motorsport. Formula E is back. Gen3 is alive. All is good in the world. Well, sort of, could have been a better race, could have had a bit more action. But that won't take away from some excellent drives from Jake Dennis, Pascal Wehrlein and Lucas Di Grassi. All three of them deserved that podium. The odds of that result were long too. Is he taking the Michael? No, he's shaking up F1. Andretti gave the bombshell announcement that they're partnering with General Motors on a new team for F1 from 2026 onwards, and we're very excited.Freddie wants milking but Adam and Nigel manage to steer the conversation back onto F1 and what the announcement means for the future of the sport. Not everyone around F1 is as happy as us though, and we discuss where there'll be opposition to the move, where it could still go wrong and if this could signal a new era of F1 with 12 or 13-team grids. Is this a watershed moment for F1? Nigel's streak of podcasts is at an end as Adam and Freddie take this one, as Mattia Binotto 'resigns' at Ferrari, but what really happened? Did he just jump, did he jump before he was pushed, was he pushed into jumping or was he just pushed off the proverbial and shouted a vague phrase that sounded like 'I'm actually jumping'? We also look at who's going to replace Binotto and whether Ferrari have a Plan B.Also, what next for Daniel Ricciardo? Adam and Freddie have differing views on what his 'third driver' role means, his F1 future could hang in the balance.Twitter: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJournoFreddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01Thumbnail: © FerrariIntro: © Red Bull Content Pool Hosted on Acast. That's a wrap! The 2022 F1 season is at an end, but we couldn't finish without a bit of controversy. Gather round, grab your cheesy nachos and your vuvuzelas as we dissect the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - the end of a chapter of a very thin book that nobody enjoyed reading.Adam and Freddie finish the season with a bang though, what did you think of the Sainz-Hamilton incident? Listen on to find out our thoughts, we also touch on another dominant win for Verstappen and Leclerc's underrated race to finish second. Could Perez have done anything different? Probably not.And we talk Sargeant and Vettel, Ricciardo and the rest of the leavers. We'll be back in the off-season though, you won't miss us for too long. It's the big showdown in Abu Dhabi. The storylines we've been tracking all season will end on Sunday for better or worse. Leclerc vs Perez. Perez vs Verstappen. Mercedes vs Ferrari. Binotto vs Ferrari. Haas vs AlphaTauri. Alfa Romeo vs Aston Martin. Alpine vs McLaren. It's just Adam and Nigel for this episode, but we still manage to get through nearly 40 minutes of chat on an essentially meaningless race - plus the World Cup kicks off before our Abu Dhabi GP review comes out so we give some time to that too. That's actually what we disagree most on. Who do you think will win the World Cup? Or the Grand Prix? We liked that. A fantastic weekend in Brazil that still hasn't changed Nigel's mind about sprint races, but we don't let that dampen our spirits. There was the Magnussen pole, the Alpines crashing into each other twice, the Aston Martin drivers nearly crashing, George Russell getting the first win of his F1 career, Magnussen and Ricciardo crashing, a safety car, Hamilton and Verstappen crashing, Norris and Leclerc crashing and Norris causing another safety car with his DNF.Oh and George Russell won his first Grand Prix.So with all that going on, it's quite impressive that we covered everything in 52 minutes. We'll let you be the judge of whether we covered it well...Twitter: https://twitter.com/WingingItF1Nigel: https://twitter.com/NigelCJournoFreddie: https://twitter.com/FredCoates1999Adam: https://twitter.com/AdamDickinson01Thumbnail: © MercedesIntro: © Red Bull Content Pool Hosted on Acast. Howdy y'all! We all arrived on horseback for this podcast à la Daniel Ricciardo but we forgot to press record for that bit so you get the bit we didn't have any budget to snazz up. Horses are expensive aren't they. However, this podcast went much better than Danny's race weekend, we reminisce on an already vintage battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, and what this victory will mean for Red Bull. There are two crashes to discuss too, and a Vettel to give some love to too, now try saying that sentence after 3 drinks.Hope you enjoy!Twitter: @WingingItF1Adam: @AdamDickinson01Nigel: @NigelCJournoFreddie: @FredCoates1999Thumbnail +: Intro © Red Bull Content Pool Hosted on Acast. You know a podcast will be good when there's a full five minutes of chat from when we started recording to when we started the podcast. We did finally get onto F1, to discuss the news we couldn't fit into the Japanese GP review - Pierre Gasly will fulfill Adam's prediction of moving to Alpine (just two years too late) and De Vries will finally get his shot in a full-time seat with AlphaTauri. It's the second Drugovich disagreement of the year between Adam and Nigel, while Freddie is heard beamed in all the way from Brands Hatch - nearly. And we get some Austin chat at the end too, Nigel has his say on whether it's worth taking an engine penalty at CotA.Twitter: @WingingItF1Adam: @AdamDickinson01Nigel: @NigelCJournoFreddie: @FredCoates1999Thumbnail +: Intro © Red Bull Content Pool Hosted on Acast. Nigel elected himself in charge of episode content this week, so if you're not a Mercedes fan then blame him. If you do stick around though, there's an interesting (we do say so ourselves) deep dive into where things stand between George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, and what the future holds for the pair at or outside Mercedes. Can Russell be the team leader when Hamilton leaves? Is that time going to come soon? Will things get heated between the pair? Let us know if this podcast was more entertaining than the race itself! Because we certainly enjoyed making it that much. Nigel was able to tear himself away from watching Emma Radacanu play in Slovenia in the tennis equivalent of GB4 to join Freddie and Adam in discussing the Italian Grand Prix, warts and all. Well, obviously you know this. But we're telling you anyway. Freddie and Nigel this time to do a quick reaction to McLaren's new signing, the 2021 F2 champion and not-an-Alpine driver, Oscar Piastri! To tooing and froing has been endless. But now it has ended. No Daniel Ricciardo but lots of Oscar Piastri. We also tack on some more silly season chat and even a bit of mid-weekend Zandvoort chat, ooooenjoy babies xxAlso, Freddie is sorry about some of the audio
The Dutch Grand Prix has to be better than Belgium because we're manifesting it that hard. But there's also been a lot of driver market news, rumours, fake rumours, fake news and Italian Jesus so Adam and Nigel dive straight into that. It's the last episode before Freddie returns so you've only one more week before you can hear his dulcet tones again, but in the meantime settle in to hear the latest on Schumacher, Gasly, Ricciardo and the rest of the craziness that's in F1 headlines this week. And there's also a grand prix to discuss! We're a bit flat after the Belgian Grand Prix's half-arsed celebration of another year on the calendar, but as usual we raise our game for the podcast like the professionals we are.Well, two of us are, but Freddie's still on holiday having a lovely time in the Caribbean so it's another Adam and Nigel two-up for this.We analyse the Alonso-Hamilton incident, Ferrari's latest pitlane gaffe and whether Perez should be concerned about his margin to Verstappen. We'll be back for a separate Dutch GP preview too, and to cover the latest Piastri news when that breaks so keep an eye out for those coming up!
