The rivalry between Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill defined the 1995 F1 season, and at Spa that year they had one of their most famous battles - a rare one that didn't end in a collision. Matt Beer and Ben Anderson join host Glenn Freeman to look back on how Schumacher recovered from 16th on the grid to win comfortably on a day where he outfoxed and outmuscled his title rival. We also scrutinise if the reaction to Schumacher's robust driving was fair at the time, and consider how his aggression would be viewed in the present day. There's also a look at how the F1 driver market was taking shape in the wake of Schumacher signing for Ferrari for 1996, with Jean Alesi swapping seats with him to lead Benetton, Williams upsetting Adrian Newey by signing Jacques Villeneuve, plus Alain Prost and McLaren causing confusion over who Mika Hakkinen's team-mate would be.And we dig into why there might have been some substance behind rumours that Ross Brawn could be on his way to Ligier from Benetton.VOTE FOR US! A veces la historia se repite para enaltecer a los más grandes. A veces también los dioses confabulan para elegir al vencedor. Speed. Beautiful scenery. Wins that disappear before you even get a chance to enjoy them. That is what Spa-Francorchamp gave us for this years Grand Prix. What looked like a 1-2 by Mercedes, with both a dominating and surprising performance by their drivers, soon became a huge miscalculation. We ponder whether this was a terrible mistake by the team or a bit of Karma for a driver who did everything he needed to do to win. We also take a look back at how Checo Perez took what should have been an amazing opportunity to save a seat we all felt was in peril and instead finished behind his teammate, who started way behind him. What would it actually take for Checo to lose his seat? Driving the car in reverse.Let us know your thoughts below as you listen to this episode on the 2024 Belgian GP.
This week we are back after taking a week off. We go over two race recaps. Of course we kick things off with some news but before any of that, we get the dad joke and the beers on the podcast. Enjoy!

It was an intense Belgian Grand Prix, a strategic race at its core that had the surprise of George Russell perfecting a one-stop strategy to leap to the front of the queue and hold off Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri in a dramatic finish... ...Or so we thought. After a couple of checks with the FIA scrutineering department, Russell was disqualified from the race with a car that was underweight by 1.5 kilogrammes. Alex Kalinauckas and Ronald Vording join Bryn Lucas on the Autosport podcast to break down just how impressive Russell's drive was, why he was ultimately DQ'ed from the race and pondering if Piastri missed another chance at a McLaren victory. In the aftermath of the race, F1's driver market took some massive steps forward Carlos Sainz announced his contract with Williams for 2025 onwards, whilst Sergio Perez was confirmed to be staying at Red Bull. But is Williams the right, or best, team for Sainz? And should Red Bull have made a different decision, with Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson in the wings? Tom Clarkson, Aston Martin Reserve Driver Stoffel Vandoorne and 9-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen analyse George Russell's disqualification from the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, and discuss why it was still an impressive race weekend for Mercedes - with Russell's strategy and Hamilton's overtaking taking the Silver Arrows to the front of the field for the third time in four races. McLaren's Oscar Piastri thinks Belgium was one of his best weekends in F1 to date, but he narrowly missed out on challenging Mercedes for the lead. Teammate Lando Norris was frustrated after a scrappy opening lap. As well as McLaren, the F1 Nation team talk about Max Verstappen's supreme speed at Spa, and ask if Sergio Perez has reached the end of the road with Red Bull Racing. Plus, why were Ferrari so quick in qualifying but slower in the race? What made it a difficult weekend for Aston Martin? In this episode we discuss this past weekends Belgian GP. With changing conditions from one day to the next, to what we thought was a Mercedes masterclass on Sunday, and the resulting heartache for George Russell. F1 in 2024 once again did not disappoint! (except for George, he was disappointed)
Round 14 of the Formula One World Championship took us to the Circuit de Spa Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix with another slow burn with the inclusion of a shocking twist after the race. A masterclass in strategy from George Russell and Mercedes saw the Brit go on a one-stopper and whisper his hard tires for over 30 laps to hold off the charge of teammate Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren of Oscar Piastri right to the flag. It wasn't to be however, with Russell suffering a post race DSQ as his Mercedes was found to be underweight, promoting Hamilton to his 2nd win in the last 3 races. Elsewhere around the paddock, Alpine ran a special Deadpool livery around Spa and are debating moving to Mercedes power, Alonso came out criticizing the FIA once again, and the internet was outraged at Max Verstappen's sim racing sleep schedule. Mattia Binotto has officially joined the Audi F1 project, the points system will not be changed, and Ocon officially signed with Haas. Formula 2 coverage wrapped up a great week On The Gravel as we head into the summer break and some quality time off before the Dutch GP at the end of August. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
