An appraisal of Formula E's surprising choice of Homestead as a venue for the tenuously titled Miami E-Prix is picked through after a messy end to a race that saw numerous penalties applied. Pascal Wehrlein had elements of fortune on the way to his first E-Prix win of the season, while teammate Antonio Felix da Costa was one of several drivers to be scuppered by a late red flag for a multi-car shunt at a specially made chicane. The possibility of Wehrlein retaining his title is dug in to, as is the poor early season form of Jaguar, who will lose its team principal James Barclay at season end. A miserable weekend in Florida from the Stellantis powered car is also analysed, as is strong performances from Nico Mueller, Dan Ticktum and Lucas di Grassi, the last of which scored a momentous surprise second place for a reborn Lola. Latest news discussed includes the future of NEOM McLaren, the probable arrival of Opel and some details about a new documentary series which is set to hit the screens next month. Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt are joined by motorsport writer and The Race contributor, Alice Holloway, as the business end of the 2024 Formula E season arrives, with talk of the title fight now being a straight scrap between Jaguar's Nick Cassidy and Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein. But neither of them took the wins as the all-electric world championship returned to mainland China for the first time since 2015. It was their respective teammates Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa that triumphed after well-judged victories in more high-energy target races. The future of da Costa and his at times fraught relationship with Porsche is discussed, as is the likelihood of Jake Dennis now not being able to defend his title and Nissan's Oliver Rowland also losing ground to his rivals. The trials and tribulations of Envision Racing are analysed, as is the future of Stoffel Vandoorne and the likelihood of Silverstone becoming the future home of a UK Formula E round. The Race Formula E podcast takes an in-depth look in to a tempestuous weekend at Berlin Tempelhof where Nick Cassidy and Antonio Felix da Costa triumphed amid a hail of carbon shards and intra-team and manufacturer recriminations. The Race team explain why the racing was so fraught and what the slow-build and then quick burst peloton style of racing means for Formula E's future. The bigger picture of what Cassidy's bumper points haul means for the title race is also analysed, as is how his teammate Mitch Evans might be able to haul himself back in to contention after a tricky weekend in Germany. Oliver Rowland's continued impressive form is discussed alongside how it might be affecting his teammate Sacha Fenestraz. A round up of the news includes a likely all-female test at Valencia in November and the latest possibilities for new venues in the much debated 2025 calendar. Hosts Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt also pointlessly reminisce about the 1983 Long Beach Grand Prix, Jean-Pierre Jarier's erratic form and why Smith randomly stole a packet of Haribo from a private jet. A typically action-packed Formula E weekend at the energy-bonkers Misano circuit in Italy is debated in this episode with special guest Maserati MSG's Maximilian Guenther. Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein were the victors but the biggest story of the weekend was Antonio Felix da Costa's bizarre and petty disqualification and the furious exchanges between Porsche and the FIA That is forensically analysed, as is the why Oliver Rowland ran out of energy while starting the last lap handing Wehrlein the win and the championship points lead. Gunther details his races which involved a strong run to third on Saturday, a dust up with Mitch Evans, getting airborne via kerbs and then seeing another points finish on Sunday being taken away for an incident with Jean-Eric Vergne. Hosts Andrew Van de Burgt and Sam Smith also take a wry-eye look at various other flashpoints, decipher the latest paddock news and indulge, for no particular reason at all, in reminiscing randomly about 1980s boxers and the long-forgotten Cagliari F3000 street race. The two Diriyah EPrixs through up vastly different protagonists last week with only Nick Cassidy managing to achieve anything bordering on consistency. In this week's Formula E podcast Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt are joined by Envision Racing's Robin Frijns who put behind him a disappointing Friday race in Riyadh to lead but ultimately finish second to Cassidy in the second race. The trio discuss what made the event so difficult and what could be done in the future to make track conditions more conducive to racing. Topics such as Mitch Evans' eventful Friday race, Pascal Wehrlein's damage limitation exercises, surprises from Sergio Sette Camara and Jehan Daruvala, and the worrying form from Antonio Felix da Costa, are also covered off. Welcome back to electric avenue to a Mexico City ePrix that... happened. Seriously, this wasn't a classic but we surprised ourselves by going 50 minutes on an ePrix that had (count em'), THREE on-track overtakes! Pascal Wehrlein would dominate the running, winning comfortably almost lights-to-flag from pole position, ahead of Buemi at Envision and Nick Cassidy's Jaguar debut getting him on the podium in third. But is Mexico responsible for the lack of action, or the cars themselves? We also try to make sense of the pecking order, has enough changed? Is Jaguar and Porsche still on top? Where does ERT fit in alongside DS and Nissan? And finally, we review the first offering of Whisper's production and whether it was a good idea to have Jermaine Jenas anchor a Formula E broadcast (No, god bless him he tried), and whether the show has missed a trick not having one of their other shows featured... All that and more on another Motorsport101!
The opening 2023 ABB FIA Formula E world championship race at the 2024 Mexico City EPrix was no classic but it still offered up some points of interest and one big controversial flashpoint. That was the investigation in to Porsche's starts, and while they were cleared of any wrongdoing, The Race's Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt delve in to the backstory of the investigations. Wehrlein's conclusive win is also contextualised, as is the fine performances of Sebastien Buemi, Nick Cassidy and Maximilian Guenther. The Antonio Felix da Costa and Nico Mueller incident is analysed, and the podcast is joined by Mahindra boss Frederic Bertrand who talks about his teams start to the season and the return to the championship of Nyck de Vries. The latest news is also discussed, including a major announcement that will hit the newsstands on Monday 22nd January! Another written article from the Motorsport101.com website and in this narration, Dre brings back the Formula E Race Review from 2022, as Season 10 for the series got underway in Mexico City. But first, Dre talks about the British based changes as TNT Sports becomes the new home for the series in an expensive paywall, and Whisper Films takes over the production, and why both will be disappointing for the home crowd. Then chat over a tame race itself with barely any action to speak of, with Pascal Wehrlein winning a processional affair with Buemi and Cassidy close behind. Dre tries to rank the powertrains and point some other little niggles in the Lightning Round too!

It wouldn't be Formula E without a final chapter full of carnage right? Mitch Evans gave it everything he had in the first half of the weekend, but Jake Dennis would survive two Red Flags and a huge team orders scandal to take the Formula E World Championship! The struggles are over! But Envision seemingly had a hand in their own demise by refusing to play team orders with Nick Cassidy destroying his car as Sebastien Buemi swiped across him! Who was in the wrong? We also talk about the tame Race 2 as the rain led to a 90-minute delay, and then a race that had next to no action in it at all as Nick Cassidy would dominate to take 2nd in the Championship and the Teams Title for Envision Racing, one of the originals getting their big moment! We talk about all of that as well as Porsche's place in the title race, some of the silly season moves like Cassidy joining Jaguar, the rumours of Sam Bird at McLaren, as well as a shock return for Oli Rowland? All on another M101!
Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt are joined by Nissan's Sacha Fenestraz to review a spectacular Rome EPrix that saw several twists in the hitherto close 2023 title battle. Jake Dennis emerged as the clear favourite after winning the second race on Sunday, with his joy accelerated by the fact his two most direct championship competitors collided on the second lap. Also discussed is the catastrophic accident triggered by Sam Bird losing control of his Jaguar and the near misses that ensued, particularly for Antonio Felix da Costa, Edoardo Mortara and Bird himself. The knock-on effect of that shunt also included some remarkable stories on how new monocoques were allocated throughout the paddock. Fenestraz describes his pride in Nissan achieving its best result in almost two years, while the Franco-Argentinian also mulls over a promising yet ultimately difficult weekend in which his excellent Saturday qualifying essentially counted for nothing come the race. Well... this was a wild one. Formula E had a scandal on its hands before the Portland ePrix had even started, with DS Penske given a 25,000 euro fine and a double pitlane start after the stewards got the word that the team had been placing RFID Scanners like you get at a Supermarket, in the pitlane to scan the barcodes on their competitors tyres. And when JEV was called out on the cheating, the man kinda doubled down on the severe dose of cheating. Inevitably, Dre, Cam and RJ weigh in on the drama, joke about it immensely, but seriously wonder how the heck they weren't thrown out of the weekend! And of course, the race itself, which was equally carnage filled, as Nick Cassidy won from 14th on the grid in a race that more resembled a cycling Sprint stage than Formula E. Over 400 overtakes across the race (Yes, basically two Berlins), but not a lot of it actually mattering until a late brakeaway from Cassidy resulting in the win after the second Safety Car. Was it fun? Sure? Was it chaotic? Definitely. Should it be what the series is about? A healthy debate emerged out of this one that is a fun listen! All of that and more on another Motorsport101!

The Monaco EPrix review majors on Nick Cassidy's shock emergence as a title contender after claiming back-to-back wins with a convincing performance on the streets of the Principality. Host Jack Nicholls and Formula E correspondent Sam Smith are joined by Andretti's group commercial director officer Jim Wright for some lively debate on the merits of the extreme energy saving peloton style racing, as well as all the discussion points from an action-packed EPrix. The dissipation of Porsche's form is picked over in addition to the resurgence of Nissan powered cars and the ongoing wretched form of Maserati MSG's Edoardo Mortara. Nicholls makes up new words, Smith's disposition as a miserable Northener is again made fun of and Wright gives some details on Avalanche Andretti's promising season as well as discussing recent details that The Race uncovered about next seasons calendar. It was a good weekend to have a Jaguar powertrain as Envision and Jaguar both split wins as Formula E returned to Tempelhof Airport in Berlin! Mitch Evans led a Jaguar 1-2 finish (Their first ever) in Race 1, with Nick Cassidy taking Race 2 by the scruff of the neck in Race 2, in two fantastic races, with record-breaking numbers. 362 overtakes across the weekend, with 9 different leaders and 22 lead changes across that first Race! And that doesn't include ABT Cupra somehow locking out the front row in Race 2 in a soaking wet qualifying session, or Nick Cassidy getting into a bizarre beef with his own teammate, Sebastien Buemi. AND we had an environmental protest too! And Dre kinda flips out at the lack of emapthy in the whole ordeal! All that and more on a loaded Formula E edition of Motorsport101
We're not going to lie to you folks - This one's a little unhinged, even by our standards. We were tired, but having fun and a Formula E Race Review is somewhere in here, as well as a rare blooper of RJ O'Connell screaming in visceral horror. True story! But MITCCCCCCCCCH BRRRRRRRRRRRRAH is still alive and well as he took a narrow win in Formula E's debut in Brazil at the Sao Paolo street circuit. The podium was separated by just half a second as Nick Cassidy's 3rd podium in a row had him caught in a factory Jaguar sandwich. Sam Bird 3rd, and oddly, not going for the win despite a 2% battery advantage! We also talk the oddities of the track itself. Seemingly another step in the right direction for the series with a fast, almost roval layout but question marks about that weird extended chicane in the middle and the regen havoc it was causing. And we also answer a genuinely interesting question - Is Formula E the most exciting Motorsport series in the world right now? Here us out for a minute, for realsies! All of that and more in a slightly madder Motorsport101. Enjoy!
