Rak Razam is best described as a mythic story teller. An author, a film maker, a journalist, a public speaker and psychonaut. Rak's interests of exploration lie in psychedelics and shamanic use of plant medicines, and the great mystery of consciousness and our spiritual purpose. Rak and I met through a mutual friend. I was literally gobsmacked with who this man is and what he embodies, to the point I opened up at a very deep level with him. Our discussion together was who heals healers? For me this has been quite hard to find a person that I can trust to can hold space for myself and this lead to us discussing a podcast on who heals healers. No matter how enlightened we thing we are we are all human with very human traits. For those of us who facilitate others to heal, who do we go to where we can be completely vulnerable. We discussed psychedelics, my recent 5MEO experience where I was left with the sheer brilliance of who we are but then a question, where do we as humans love from. It was a question that for many of us is that we love from trauma or avoidance or to not be hurt. Very few of us actually love from love itself. That is being in the essence of love and like a coin where the 2 sides embrace the light and the dark to create the one experience. For me Rak's work is brilliant and it is not for the faint hearted. It is straight to the point, slap you in the face with a fish embodiment of that love.Rak's details are:https://rakrazam.comhttps://www.instagram.com/rakrazam/https://www.facebook.com/rak.razam/Psychedelics:https://rakrazam.com/psychedelics/Aya Awakenings - https://rakrazam.com/about-me/#about-filmsGreg's details are:https://www.gregriley.com.auGreg's Facebook pages:https://www.facebook.com/greg.riley.737/https://www.facebook.com/gregriley5dimensions

Rak is a mythic storyteller: a screenwriter, author, journalist, filmmaker and public speaker. He's been on a twenty-year well-documented journey on the fringes of consciousness that he is willing to share with us, exploring the delicate nature of filming and making media about shamanic experiences. What is this sense of the sacred and initiation into the larger bandwidth of planetary consciousness that earth medicines like ayahuasca and 5-MeO-DMT can engender? What is ego death and how do we release our fear of the unknown, of being in control, to sacrifice our ego to rejoin a larger whole? Is the psychedelic experience being commodified by venture capitalism and the shadow of Wetiko in western mindframe? Is the shamanic underground any different? Rak suggests that collectively we have the pieces to the puzzle of a healthy, sustainable, meaningful new paradigm that unites ancient wisdom with future technology and that shamanism is a thread through the labyrinth of disinformation and division that points towards homeIn 2014 the critically acclaimed documentary adaption of his ayahuasca book, Aya: Awakenings, was released, and toured Australia, the U.K. and the USA. This in turn led to his current documentary series, Shamans of the Global Village, which looks at the resurgence of medicine people around the world working with psychoactive tools for community healing and enlightenment. Dylan Charles talks with Rak Razam to understand a shamanic perspective on the cultural challenges and divide we are witnessing in civilization as it responds to multiple emergencies, from the coronavirus to economic collapse and ecological devastation. As the ego drive for control brings in a new world order of advanced technologies that track, surveil and entrain an increasingly distanced and traumatized global population, is there a larger process at work? Are we undergoing a spiritual emergency that presages the emergence of something new? Can we acknowledge the world grief of our unsustainable civilization’s collapse? Are we in a planetary ceremony right now, facing our egos, our traumas, and our shadow? And can we let go of blame, control and division to come together with a unified vision for a new way of being? Rak Razam is a journalist, author, filmmaker, and an articulate spokesperson for the global psychedelic movement. ———————————— Visit Rak at RakRazam.com Check his superb books, Aya Awakenings and The Toad of Dawn Watch Rak’s film series, Shamans of the Global Village ———————————— Visit us on the web - Waking Times ———————————— Support Battered Souls with Cryptos! Ten years ago this June experiential journalist Rak Razam took his virgin trip down to the Amazon to explore the mythic archetype of #ayahuasca and the role of the #shaman in the 21st Century, a journey which became the book Aya: Awakenings A Shamanic Odyssey, and later the critically acclaimed documentary of the same name (http://www.aya-awakenings.com). In this extended audio narration you’ll hear the original readings from the book launch at Sera Phi, San Francisco on Sept 28, 2009, which later formed the sonic backbone of the film’s narration. So sit back and listen: "But what science cannot explain is the psychic effect of this “mother of all plants,” the sense of the numinous and the spiritual world it reportedly opens up. Those who drink say that each ayahuasca journey is unique. They say that the spirit of the vine comes alive, it guides and teaches, and on the other side nothing is ever the same. Or so they say." Come on your own ayahuasca retreat with me and curandero Percy Garcia this Sept 10-19th, 2016. http://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/10-day-ayahuasca-awakenings-retreat-in-peru-sept-10-19-2016-with-rak-razam-and-percy-garcia-tickets-15049426239 This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.
Experiential journalist Rak Razam interviews Hamilton Souther, one of the more prominent Western ayahuasca shamans and the founder of the Blue Morpho lodge outside Iquitos. Souther is also pioneering 'Cannabis Shamanism' using the songs and structure of his ayahuasca lineage with cannabis as the active sacrament. Cannabis has been revered as sacred by Hindus, Rastafarians and others, and with Souther's '420 Shamanism' movement there is the opportunity to resacralize the West's dominant recreational drug into something more, at the same time as marijuana legalisation sweeps America. If recreation and medical use of marijuana is becoming accepted, can spiritual use as well? Is this the start of a cannabis-shamanism revival, as the modality of shamanism itself crosses the tipping point into the mainstream? Souther shares his initiation story on the shamanic path, the difficulties of training as a Westerner and the secret bias towards many Westerners from local practitioners. How do we separate the indigenous wisdom from the dogma to apply shamanic training for the modern world? How do we become our own Western Shamans, not culturally repackaged copies? How far can we integrate and change the existing styles? For instance, as well as integrating icaros or healing sounds into Western dance music for consciousness expansion, Souther is about to sing his healing in ceremony, livestreaming across the internet in a 21st century 'distributed shamanism' modality. A provocative interview that will challenge your conceptions of what shamanism is, and how it can be integrated into the West… The 420 Cannabis Shamanism Movement launches April 20th, 2014. An intimate dinner party-neuroscience conversation with experiential journalist Rak Razam, Dr. Juan Acosta, the 'mad scientist on the frontiers of consciousness' that starred in the film Aya: Awakenings, and Cheryl. Dr Juan has mapped EEG data from subjects legally ingesting Salvia Divinorum, 5-MeO-DMT, experiencing kundalini activation and monks meditating. Neuroscience can now map our brain states, but it takes a real neuroshaman to tell what occurs experientially within the journey itself… And why does nature make these substances that fit our brain systems, anyway? Can the EEG data sets recorded from one subject be rolled out onto the mindfield of another subject via neurofeedback? Can we electronically stimulate and repeat these transcendental experiences? How does language change the brain? When both psychedelics and meditation shut off the Default Mode Network what happens to the brain? Is the brain structure is like an ecosystem that mirrors the planetary ecology, which is itself a nested consciousness? Was the 'fall' into consciousness the turning ON of the species' Default Mode Network? Is the imagination a receiver of the infinite fields of Gaian consciousness we are embedded in? Oh, a feast of ideas awaits you! Damon Orion interviews Rak Razam, experiential journalist and the writer-producer of the critically acclaimed shamanic documentary, Aya: Awakenings. They discuss the nature of the indigenous shamanic realm that is coming back into the Western understanding, the role of jaguars in the archetypal landscape, and the difference between the two world paradigms and how they define altered states. The role of western media makers in mapping the invisible landscape is defined, as is the healing benefits of entheogens and re-connecting to spirit, and the deep mystical profundity of the 5-Me0 immersion. The film, which Orion called "A multi-sensory, multi-dimensional mindblower, leaving the viewer stunned, invogorated, and filled with reverent awe for the Great Mystery," is available now on Video On Demand. Damon Orion is a journalist, editor, and ghostwriter in Santa Cruz, California. As the Western resurgence in entheogenic shamanism grows, teething issues abound. Joshua Wickerham is one of the founders of the Enthnobotanical Stewardship Council, a new NGO dedicated to facilitating the safe and sustainable cultural use of ayahuasca, iboga and other plant sacraments. Here Wickerham chats with experiential journalist Rak Razam on the need for a fair trade system for cultivating entheogens like ayahuasca, applying NGO standards to an emerging spiritual paradigm, navigating the huge political issues between curanderos, operators and the law, and the minefield of cultural and ethical considerations. How can the conservation of bio-diversity be balanced against the rapid growth of the shamanic community worldwide? What differences do sacred medicines make to running a Western NGO? Can shamanism be regulated into the Western experience without being commodified? The groundbreaking shamanic documentary Aya: Awakenings is now available for viewing and download on Vimeo on Demand and you can read the book that inspired the film and join the discussion on our Facebook page.
