This week's episode, my guest is Clive Farrell. Clive is a butterfly expert who established The London Butterfly House at Syon House and has dedicated his life to breeding and studying the butterflies of Britain and the world. His latest project has been to develop the 100 or so acres around his home in Dorset into a haven for insects, that features unusual, even magical elements such as a giant fibreglass dragon, a replica of a Saxon longhouse that is home to a huge bog oak sculpture, a temple dedicated to ravens and a giant's chair. Clive's garden is the stuff of dreams to adult and child visitors, but also to the invertebrates which makes their homes amongst this garden which is built for them. Hamilton Souther is a Master Ayahuasca Shaman, founder and Chairman of Blue Morpho retreats, and an important voice in Amazonian sustainability and conservation. In this fascinating episode he shares his original calling and experience with ayahuasca, as well as his intense apprenticeship and training process while living deep in the Amazon jungle. Hamilton describes how we are in a unique time of convergence regarding consciousness, technology and cultural change. We discuss ayahuasca's healing potential which may include treating depression, trauma, PTSD, physical pain, ailments and more. We also discuss the neo-shamanic revolution and the role of plant medicine in the awakening of humanity, and icaros - the magical language and song of the shaman. Hamilton shares the importance of integration following ceremony and suggested supportive practices as well as his personal journey working through duality and fear-based consciousness. He talks of the shaman's skills in facilitating ceremony such as holding safe space, keeping the group field grounded and navigating perception in different realms and visionary states. We discuss the range of effects of ayahuasca such as purging, communication with nature, various psychic phenomena, accessing higher dimensions, visions of sacred geometry and the experience of spiritual unity or oneness. He shares how ayahuasca may be viewed as an accelerant to personal transformation and can integrate contemplative and shamanic practices. We also cover the current legalization process of traditional shamanic medicines and the ethical considerations about harvesting versus growing this sacred medicine. Hamilton studied shamanism in California, Cusco, and the Amazon and was given the title of Master Shaman after apprenticing with Torres Davila and Julio Jlerena Pinedo. Hamilton is the chairman and founder of Blue Morpho, one of the oldest and most well-respected ayahuasca centers in the Peruvian Amazon. I worked for many years at another one of the pioneering ayahuasca centers, the Temple of the Way of Light, and so I was familiar with Blue Morpho and Hamilton and always heard of people having really deep, profound experiences there. So it was a pleasure to sit down and chat and have Hamilton share in his story, which is an interesting one indeed. He came to the Peruvian Amazon in 2001 after a series of personal insights and was led to apprentice with an indigenous community deep in the Amazon rainforest. I think Hamilton is really one of the pioneers in this field and has an important voice as this plant medicine work moves out into society at large. His knowledge of these plants and the time and dedication that he has given to traditional ways of healing is very valuable in this sphere and I trust you all will gain a lot from his insights and wisdom.
