Aaron Nabus here and we continue with another interview that was recorded before the pandemic with good friend of the Hall H Show, Rylend Grant – who makes his fourth appearance! He now ties Susy Botello and Keithan Jones for most appearances to date on the show! Check out his first two interviews on episode 40 and his interview from WonderCon 2019 with Steven Prince on episode 64! When this podcast was recorded in late 2019, Rylend was still celebrating his 2019 Ringo Award win and had just launched his newest comic at the time, Banjax, which is available on Amazon right now. We not only talk about what it felt like to win the award and receive those additional nominations, but we also touch on how he was originally on a path to be a political operative, why he feels it's important to help other comic book creators, that Skeet Ulrich owes him $37, the camaraderie that he enjoys with quite a few of his fellow comic book creators, his days as part of a 90's grunge band, why he loves chef David Chang, and his newest comic, The Jump (which had a successful Kickstarter). For episode 87, we get a chance to talk with one of the most interesting people that we've met in a long time, Omar Mora (this conversation was recorded near the end of 2019). Omar is a medical doctor that specializes in regenerative medicine, an actor, filmmaker, writer (comic books, novels, screenplays) and an avid table tennis player. I'm not sure how he manages to find the time or energy to do all of these things. Maybe he's a vampire – like the protagonists in his comic book, The Unearthians! The Unearthians is a unique take on vampires (and aliens) and after reading the first three issues, I definitely am eager to read all of the upcoming issues. Haven't you ever wondered what would happen if a vampire sucked the blood of an alien? At WonderCon 2019, I was originally supposed to talk with my good friend and multiple guest of the show, screenwriter and comic book creator, Rylend Grant to talk about the second arc of his current comic book, Aberrant and his new one, called Banjax, both of which are published by Action Lab. It was a welcome surprise to see Steven Prince, the writer, artist and creator of Rylend's favorite comic book, Monster Matador, show up to the podcast too with Rylend! Turns out, they collaborated on something called Tales From the World of Monster Matador. It was an interesting conversation, hearing about how Steven is more of an improvisational writer whereas Rylend is more structured, but they were still able to find a unified voice. We also talk about building a fanbase, different approaches to comic publishing, the importance of the Meltdown Comics community and more! ~Aaron
