On this episode, host, Aaron Nabus talks to the creator of the 80's anime inspired, Black Lion and Cubs, Hotep! Born in New York City in the 1970s, Hotep is the personification of the progress made during the civil rights movements, the birth of Hip-Hop music, and the emergence of Black culture in American society. After graduating from Morehouse College, he became one of the only Black, male kindergarten teachers in his district. There, he learned first-hand how powerful and influential media is on the human mind and psyche. Today, Hotep is a consultant to schools across the United States, a father of 2 and producer of several different types of media including: books, cartoons, films, music and video games. His most recent creation, a family-friendly anime series called Black Lion and Cubs is a perfect example of why his work has earned him nominations for the Presidential Citizen's Award and as a CNN Hero. The Black Lion and Cubs universe incorporates, for now, a cartoon series, videogame, album, graphic novels, and motion manga series. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Black Comix Day 2024 in San Diego, CA where he was part of the panel that I moderated that touched on Black Culture in Anime and Manga. He currently has an active Kickstarter campaign going on until March 3, 2025 for his newest project – an anime short film about one of the characters from the Black Lion and Cubs universe, the Amazing Ariyah. Welcome to the show, Hotep!

Hello fellow nerds, geeks and supporters of indie pop culture creators! Aaron Nabus here and welcome to the Hall H Show! I first met our next guest, Don Nguyen, back in late 2019 at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles, CA at an event organized by one of our previous guests, Omar Mora. Since then, he's been really active not only honing his craft and working on a ton of projects, but also promoting other creator's work – which I think deserves extra kudos. He has his own creator owned comic book called Pablo the Gorilla and he was part of very popular Black Lives Matter art campaign in 2020 that was spearheaded by The Punisher creator, Gerry Conway. Welcome to the show, Don!
On this episode, host Aaron Nabus talks to Stephanie Cooke, an award-winning writer and editor based out of Toronto, Canada. For Molly is an action packed modern fantasy adventure, set among the abandoned things in the New Jersey forest, where talking dogs and off-the-grid humans have precariously coexisted...until now. It tackles themes such as guilt, abandonment, and trust. The two main characters, Greg and Molly start out hopeless and isolated, but through their experiences in the forest and despite all of the challenges they face, they discover something in each other that's worth fighting for. Welcome to the Hall H Show, Gabe!

On this episode we'll be talking about the trade paperback for The Roach “At War With The Cause,” which is currently on Kickstarter until Saturday, August 7th, 2021.
If we were to tell you that host, Aaron Nabus would be interviewing on this episode, a fellow podcaster, an ordained Soto Zen Buddist monk, a screenwriter that has sold the film rights to one of his stories to Justin Lin and has developed other film and TV projects with JJ Abrams, Ridley Scott, John Woo, and Penelope Cruz (just to name a few), a Ringo Award winning coming book creator, a poker player that has won a ton of online and in person tournaments, and a former American Ninja Warrior contestant, you probably say, "Wow, where did Aaron find all these guests? And man, is this going to be a five hour show?" Well guess what, they are all the same person! That's right...the one...the only, Rylend Grant is back to talk about his Tokusatsu genre comic, Suicide Jockeys and so much more!
We're happy to welcome back a writer that we first met at Black Comix Day 2018, the creator of Is'nana the Were-Spider, Greg Anderson Elysée! It's hard to believe that the first time we interviewed him was three years ago on episode 31. Time sure went by fast! He's been on several shows since then to discuss a few of the comic books that he's written. On episode 109, host Aaron Nabus talks to Greg about Is'ana the Were-Spider: Birthday Day. While it's the fifth comic book in the Is'nana the Were-Spider series, Birthday Day is actually a prequel. It's available to back on Kickstarter until 7/18/21, so let's help it finish strong. Welcome back to the Hall H Show, Greg!
On this episode, Hall H Show host, Aaron Nabus chats with writer, actor and director, Clay Adams. He's back to talk about one of his own comics, PBOW: World War Bitch 1-2, the grindhouse action comedy sequel to Pregnant Bitches of War (Dystopian sci-fi for mature readers that's The Handmaid's Tale meets Kill Bill). PBOW: World Pregnant Bitches of War is on Kickstarter until June, 17, 2021. Clay also shares some great writing, Kickstarter and voice acting advice. Enjoy!
Writer, Terry Mayo (The Wicked Righteous, Disposable Legends) and artist, Dave Swartz (Feast or Famine, Confederate Monster) talk with host, Aaron Nabus about their indie comic, Buddy (a family friendly horror tale about a pug trying to save his family from a horde of demons). The last full day to back on Kickstarter is Saturday, 6/5/21). We talk about how Terry has 14 kids (just joking...but his family is growing) and his job as a nurse, Dave's fascination with words and philosophy, and so much more (the both of them also share some valuable advice for aspiring comic book creators)! I hope to one day hang out with the both of them and maybe sing some karaoke (make sure to listen to this episode to find out what Terry sang to win second place in a contest in the 90's). Enjoy!
Hey there Hall H Show listeners, Aaron Nabus here and joining me on this episode is Jay Jay Maniquis, a pop culture fan (Back to the Future is his favorite movie) and food and travel vlogger with a fast growing YouTube channel called Jaycation. At the time of our chat he was about 150 subscribers from the 30k milestone (which he has since passed) – congratulations, Jay Jay! He does a lot for local businesses and also in providing great value for “Jaycationers” (like me). So let's all continue to support him as he makes his way to his personal goal of 100k YouTube subscribers! This was a fun and informative chat with Jay Jay and I hope to meet up with him soon for some good food and beer! Enjoy!
Hello fellow nerds, geeks and supporters of indie pop culture creators! Aaron Nabus here and welcome to the Hall H Show! I appeared recently on The Writers Block (hosted by Rylend Grant and David Avellone) with my guests for episode 105, Tilly and Susan Bridges. That was a fun conversation, not about writing, but about creating podcasts, which they produce, along with audio dramas, through their company, Pendant Productions. Though, Tilly and Susan are also writers, having written their own comic book, Killswitch. On this episode, we talk about their “meet cute” moment, Pendant Productions, Killswitch, pizza, Star Trek, Trans Tuesday and so much more...enjoy! ~Aaron
International Mobile Film Festival 2021 will be taking place virtually on April 23-25, 2021. This festival is an annual celebration of mobile filmmaking that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! For some, it may seem like making movies on your smartphone has only been trending fairly recently, but our guest for this episode, Susan Botello, has been promoting the possibilities of mobile filmmaking since the first iPhone came out in 2007 – maybe even before that! She's the owner of SBP Productions, founder of the International Mobile Film Festival, “The Voice for Mobile Film”, as the host of the SBP Podcast, creator of Mobile Film Stories, a frequent guest of the Hall H Show, and a spokesperson for San Diego's Fish Taco industry! Welcome back to the show, Susy! ~Aaron

Both Jenapher and Kaitlyn are also podcast hosts on the Pangeekery podcast, where I was a guest in 2020. Jenapher is an actor, gamer, podcaster, Twitch streamer, visual artist and writer. Speaking of writing, a short movie she wrote, called Borrowed Light was recently fully funded on Seed & Spark (the campaign ends on April 14, 2021) and will start production soon. Also...congrats to Jenapher for recently getting 1,000 followers on her Twitch channel! We cover a wide range of topics like her movie, her geek origin story and creative journey, and so much more! During our conversation, she was willing to be a bit vulnerable, touching on childhood bullying, being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, and also reading a poem she recently wrote that encapsulated her feelings concerning the murders of six Asian women in Atlanta, Georgia in March of 2021. It's conversations like these that keep me motivated to continue sharing stories of these incredible creators that I've been fortunate enough to meet. Enjoy! ~Aaron
We are happy to have our previous guest from episode 79 (which was recorded at San Diego Comic-Con 2019), the writer and creator of the comic book Duplicant, Karla Nappi! Growing up, she was a huge fan of shows like The X-Files and movies like Silence of the Lambs, which I'm sure had an influence on the darker side of Duplicant, a very entertaining comic book that also has shades of the movie Minority Report. Karla is currently doing a Kickstarter for issue #4 of Duplicant (which ends on March 3rd, 2021) and I'm happy that she's back to talk about it. Welcome back to the show Karla! ~Aaron

Thank you to all of our guests and to our listeners for continuing to support us. Cheers to 100 more episodes! ~Aaron
Hey there Hall H Show listeners! Like a ghost, David Schrader has continued to haunt our show as a multiple guest. We last had him on episode 92 with Peter Murrieta where they talked about their comic book, Rafael Garcia: Henchman. With Halloween just around the corner, it's only fitting that David has appeared again, this time with Clay Adams to talk to host, Aaron Nabus, about their cinematic horror comic anthology, Nightmare Theater, which is currently available on Kickstarter until Thursday, November 19, 2020. We can't wait to read this anthology with over 225 pages of demons, Lovecraftian monsters, psycho killers and more! Welcome to the show, David and Clay!
Hey Hall H Show listeners! If you've been listening to us the last few months, you've heard some great interviews with comic book creators that have come on the show to talk about their Kickstarter campaigns. For episode 98, we feature our conversation with Michael Pickard, the artist and co-creator of the indie comic, UltraMax – which is now on Kickstarter until October 15, 2020. Besides the Kickstarter campaign, please also check out Michael's Instagram page to see his illustrations. He also co-hosts a YouTube podcast, Ink Drink Think.
For episode 97, we feature another pre-pandemic conversation. Host, Aaron Nabus chats with writer Tony Fabro, the mastermind behind Three Panel Crimes on Instagram. Not only do they talk about Three Panel Crimes, but they discuss some of his book recommendations like Stephen King's, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft and Ed Brubaker's comic book, Criminal, which I have been reading the last few days. It's now become one of Aaron's favorites! Tony also shares some great resources like Khan Academy's “Pixar in a Box” an online class, that has lessons on the art of storytelling, animation, lighting and more. It's also free! If this is the first that you've heard of Three Panel Crimes, you are in for a treat! Each strip in this series is a crime that takes place in three panels, with no dialogue. Enjoy!
For episode 96 of the Hall H Show, we showcase another interview that hosts Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto did before the pandemic – with one of their favorite artists (and people) to visit at comic conventions, Lord Mesa! His lines are always busy and it's no surprise since his unique take on characters from various pop culture properties from DC and Marvel comics as well as the popular CW shows (The Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl and Supernatural) are always con favorites! Lord was last on episode 54 which was a quick interview at WonderCon 2018. This episode is a longer chat with him which included a wide range of topics: The importance of not only having top notch illustration skills but having a high level customer service. What Jedi he would want to be a padawan to. The significance of being a Filipino-American creator. His love for Hawaiian pizzas. What podcasts he enjoys listening to when he's walking his dog. What kind music he listens to when he's drawing. That he eventually wants to create his own original properties. and so much more! Enjoy!

He now ties Susy Botello and Keithan Jones for most appearances to date on the show! Check out his first two interviews on episode 40 and his interview from WonderCon 2019 with Steven Prince on episode 64! When this podcast was recorded in late 2019, Rylend was still celebrating his 2019 Ringo Award win and had just launched his newest comic at the time, Banjax, which is available on Amazon right now. We not only talk about what it felt like to win the award and receive those additional nominations, but we also touch on how he was originally on a path to be a political operative, why he feels it's important to help other comic book creators, that Skeet Ulrich owes him $37, the camaraderie that he enjoys with quite a few of his fellow comic book creators, his days as part of a 90's grunge band, why he loves chef David Chang, and his newest comic, The Jump (which had a successful Kickstarter). Enjoy!

On this episode, hosts Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto welcome back good friend, Jason Lethert from HeroJournalism. Heads up – this one clocks in at almost four hours! So please enjoy and we hope you have a fun time at Comic-Con@Home. Fingers crossed for the glorious return of San Diego Comic-Con next year!
For episode 87, we get a chance to talk with one of the most interesting people that we've met in a long time, Omar Mora (this conversation was recorded near the end of 2019). Omar is a medical doctor that specializes in regenerative medicine, an actor, filmmaker, writer (comic books, novels, screenplays) and an avid table tennis player. I'm not sure how he manages to find the time or energy to do all of these things. Maybe he's a vampire – like the protagonists in his comic book, The Unearthians! The Unearthians is a unique take on vampires (and aliens) and after reading the first three issues, I definitely am eager to read all of the upcoming issues. Haven't you ever wondered what would happen if a vampire sucked the blood of an alien? Please enjoy this conversation with Omar as he talks about growing up in Puerto Rico; loving DC comics, Superman and Steven Spielberg movies; going to medical school in Mexico; treating firefighters in New York during 9-11; his creative journey, some of the challenges he faced self publishing his comic book; table tennis; our appreciation for our mutual friend and comic book creator Rylend Grant (Aberrant and Banjax), stem cells and more!
Aaron Nabus here and if you loved our time travel last episode with Poster Posse founder, Don Thompson back to San Diego Comic-Con 2014, then you are in for another treat for episode 86! We fast forward a bit from July 2014 to November 2014 when my co-host, Alex Benedicto and I went to Poster Posse headquarters in Orange County, CA to meet the one…the only, vector art god himself, Orlando Arocena! Also known as Mexifunk, he was in town for an art show in Los Angeles and both he and Don had also recently met the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn a few days prior to our conversation. This was also pre Hall H Show, so the sound isn't the best and it was originally only going to be a written interview. Unfortunately, due to a bad hard drive, I lost the recording – or so I thought. Two years ago, I happened to come across a copy of the recording on an external hard drive that I found after a move. I was ecstatic when I found it because this conversation was such an epic one with one my heroes. As a graphic designer, I know how hard working in vectors can be and what high level users of Adobe Illustrator can do in six days, Orlando can do, mixing in his signature pop deco style, in six hours. He was also the first artist I found online that we promoted on HallH.com when we launched in June of 2014. Today is Thursday, April 9, 2020 which also happens to be Orlando's birthday so this is the perfect time to share this lost interview with Orlando Arocena, Vector Artist, Poster Posse member and just an all-around good and decent human being. Although this conversation is almost six years old, I think you'll enjoy how Orlando talks about growing up in New York, how anime like G-Force and Robotech had an influence on him, finding art, going to Pratt Institute, talking to Mark Hamill on the phone, working for Lloyd Kaufman at Troma, meeting James Gunn, how he joined the Poster Posse and more! Happy birthday brother!
Aaron Nabus here and I'm recording this intro to episode 85 on April 6, 2020 which just happens to be the birthday of the founder of the Poster Posse…Don Thompson! I thought it would be cool to take a time machine back to San Diego Comic-Con 2014 when we first met Don – before there was even ever a Hall H Show, when we were just a blog. In fact we had just launched HallH.com one month prior to this conversation! We talk about Batman, Bruce Lee, his leaving the east coast and moving to California with some friends basically on a whim, New Wave music and more! Please enjoy this phenomenal conversation and also join me and my co-host, Alex Benedicto in wishing Don Thompson a phenomenal birthday!
Aaron Nabus here and I'm happy to welcome to the Hall H Show, Charlie Stickney, the writer and creator of the indie comic book, White Ash! White Ash is a refreshing take on the fantasy genre and I love the tagline for it, “The Smaller the town, the bigger the secrets.” It's a beautifully executed book that features art and letters by Conor Hughes and colors by Fin Cramb. While this interview was done late last year, Charlie has an active Kickstarter campaign going on until April 8, 2020 for White Ash, so please check it out! Lot's of gold in this episode, from talking about his early love of Lord of the Rings, Sword of Shannara and the Transformers cartoon and comic book series to succeeding at creating a comic book, building a fanbase and funding Kickstarter campaigns...while raising a family Enjoy!
Chairman, Matt Dunford, gives the Hall H Show an update on what's in store for San Diego Comic Fest 2020. The San Diego Comic Fest is the friendly comic convention with a casual and intimate setting that allows fans to interact directly with professionals and exhibitors. Indulge your love of comics, science fiction, and films, and meet an outstanding array of professional creators without high-priced tickets, crowding, or long lines. You may start out in awe of all the creators in attendance (like this year's guest of honor, Bill Sienkiewicz) but chances are, you'll be friends by the end of the last day. For more information about San Diego Comic Fest: https://www.sdcomicfest.org/ The Hall H Show is the voice of independent pop culture creators and is hosted by Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto. Please be sure to visit small press and artist alley at all the comic conventions you go to.
Hey there Hall H Show listeners! Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto here and on this episode we welcome back a previous guest! You last heard him on episode 51, which was a DesignerCon 2017 interview...so I'm glad he is able to join us for this episode where we'll talk a bit about DesignerCon 2019 (November 22-24) which takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center! We also talk about his vinyl sculptures (which are updated versions of the Filipino barrel man), life as a creative and entrepreneur and more! Welcome back to the show, Andy Lorenzana from Watermoon Studios!
