From the legislative battles of the Midwest to historic street mobilizations in Southern California, the labor movement is currently the front line of defense for the American working class. Today, we look at how union leaders are responding to fiscal threats and federal pressure. Segment 1: The $21 Billion Threat in Ohio We're joined by Frank Mathews, Administrative Director of CWA District 4, to discuss the fallout of the Ohio and Indiana primaries. While labor-backed candidates like Ironworker Brian Poindexter are securing major wins, a new threat is looming: a movement to repeal Ohio's property tax. Mathews breaks down why this proposal is a "trap" that would blow a $21 billion hole in public services, devastating schools, roads, and fire departments. Segment 2: Solidarity Under Fire in Los Angeles Yvonne Wheeler, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, joins us to discuss a city pushed to the brink. Following the January 2025 wildfires and large-scale immigration enforcement operations, Wheeler explains how the LA Fed organized the largest nonviolent direct action training in U.S. history. We discuss the creation of the Peacekeepers, the May Day 2026 mobilization, and why the labor movement is the only force capable of holding the line during a crisis.
Today's episode hit me in a way I didn't expect. I'm sharing what I took from our pastor's sermon this weekend on Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” and how that actually plays out in real life (and online).

In this episode of Two Pastors and a Mic, we talk about the difference between peacekeeping and peacemaking—and why those two things are not the same.A lot of us were taught that being “nice,” avoiding conflict, staying quiet, and keeping everyone comfortable was the godly way. But what if that's not actually peace? What if it's a trauma response dressed up as spirituality? We unpack how peacekeeping is often rooted in fear—fear of rejection, fear of conflict, fear of being misunderstood, fear of losing connection—and how it can slowly cause you to abandon your own voice, needs, and boundaries. Then we contrast that with the way of Jesus, who didn't avoid tension, but entered it with truth, love, and a desire for restoration. If you've ever found yourself shrinking, avoiding hard conversations, or carrying the emotional burden of keeping everyone else okay, this conversation is for you.In this episode, we cover:The difference between peacekeeping and peacemakingWhy peacekeeping often looks spiritualHow fear drives conflict avoidanceWhat Jesus modeled insteadHow to confront without escalating4 practical steps toward real peacemaking00:00 - Welcome + YouTube Growth & Appreciation01:03 - Why This Podcast Matters Right Now01:43 - Series Intro: Godly Thought or Trauma Response03:00 - Today's Topic: Peacekeeping vs Peacemaking03:40 - What Jesus Meant by Peacemakers (Not Peacekeepers)04:11 - Signs of Peacekeeping (People-Pleasing & Avoidance)05:02 - Why Peacekeeping Gets Praised05:50 - Fear at the Root of Peacekeeping06:40 - How Peacekeeping Makes You Disappear07:32 - Real-Life Example: Family Tension & Boundaries08:36 - Leadership Struggles: Avoiding Hard Conversations09:45 - Fragilizing: Walking on Eggshells10:29 - Self-Perception vs How Others See You11:39 - Fear of Hurting Others vs Fear of Losing Connection12:44 - Why Fragilizing Hurts Growth13:59 - Tension: When to Confront vs When Not To15:13 - Jesus Example: Confronting Without Escalating16:03 - What True Peacemaking Looks Like16:48 - Peacekeepers vs Peacemakers (Clear Differences)17:39 - Why This Leads to Healing (Not Just Harmony)17:59 - Practical Steps to Become a Peacemaker19:09 - Step 1: Admit Specifics19:34 - Step 2: Avoid Excuses20:00 - Step 3: Accept Consequences20:18 - Step 4: Ask for Forgiveness20:53 - Closing + Next Episode Teaser
Hello to you listening wherever your feet touch the ground! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more for an important announcement) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. NO KINGS Rally 3.0 is another national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses from Trump's regime. This regime has cracked down on free speech, detained immigrants, killed American citizens, defied the courts, threatened anyone who would not bend a knee, enriched themselves and their obscenely greedy tycoons with unprecedented corruption, and started an illegal, idiotic war putting us on the eve of destruction. On Saturday March 28th Americans are once again taking to the streets of our nation. Here on Whidbey Island, Washington, our protest (organized by Indivisible Whidbey and supported by peacekeepers from SOS Whidbey) will focus on defending democracy and civil rights. Demonstrators will speak out against the illegal war in the Middle East, sending troops into communities to carry out aggressively lawless actions by ICE, and the ongoing attempts to subvert voting rights and the midterm elections. “It's more important than ever to speak out, to come together and demand a different path”, said Carrie Krueger, an event organizer from Indivisible Whidbey. “American citizens are being disappeared or killed in the street; our soldiers, including those from Whidbey Island, are in harm's way for a war that is illegal and devastating. The very foundations of our democracy, including separation of powers and free and fair elections, are being actively and intentionally dismantled.” The event will feature music by Singing Resistance and chants led by local student leaders. We will also raise money for the Neighbor to Neighbor Fund, a grassroots community fund supporting immigrants with financial assistance for food, housing, transportation and immigration legal fees. All of us are committed to non-violent action including de-escalation of conflicts. Peacekeepers will be on hand to ensure a peaceful and positive event. Our event will take place in Oak Harbor to support the veteran and active duty military who have served and are serving our country. The world is steeped in conflict. From Ukraine to the Middle East to Sudan, so what role do UN Peacekeepers play in a world with little peace? And what role can they play To discuss, Jane Kinninmont is joined by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations. They discuss the current role of UN peacekeepers, what they can and cannot do, and how they can find a role in a world where fewer peace agreements are being made. So part of the ordering solution needs to be spreading an understanding that cutting the funds for peacekeeping, peacebuilding and conflict prevention is quite literally a false economy. This case is powerfully made in a great new article from NYU's Centre on International Cooperation: Few news headlines describe when a city's homicide rate falls quietly over a decade, when a community at risk never quite tips into gang recruitment, when a potential terrorist is redirected by a counsellor rather than arrested by a counter-terrorism unit, or when a conflict is narrowly averted. Successful prevention is often invisible. And that is why it often keeps losing to the politics of urgency.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The moment a woman's hormones begin to decline, the entire body starts aging faster. The brain, heart, bones, immune system, and metabolism are all affected by a single biological shift most doctors barely explain. I sat down with Dr. Amy Killen, physician and leading expert in regenerative and longevity medicine, to explore the science of female aging and why ovarian health may be the true driver of how long women live. We break down the real biology behind menopause, why estrogen is far more than a reproductive hormone, and how hormone loss can accelerate cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, bone loss, and systemic inflammation. Dr. Killen also explains the emerging science behind hormone replacement therapy, the misunderstood relationship between estrogen and breast cancer risk, and why many doctors still are not properly trained to treat menopause. We discuss stem cells, mitochondrial health, and the growing interest in therapies like hyperbaric oxygen, peptides, red light therapy, and plasma exchange, and what the evidence actually says. Deadly violence has erupted once again across Lebanon and Israel, following the bombing of Iran by Israeli and US forces.Mass displacement in Lebanon has resulted, as thousands of people in Beirut and elsewhere flee airstrikes targeting Hezbollah militants, according to the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (UNIFIL). Speaking from southern Lebanon, UNIFIL's Tilak Pokharel said families, including women and children, have been leaving the area in large numbers since hostilities intensified last weekend. Videos posted on social media showed heavily congested roads as residents attempted to escape airstrikes and ongoing military activity.UN peacekeepers have been assisting civilians who were unable to leave conflict-affected areas, transporting them to locations they consider safer, and facilitating humanitarian access, including supporting requests from the Lebanese Red Cross to reach injured people and displaced populations. While warning that the situation remains “very fragile”, Mr. Pokharel told UN News's Nancy Sarkis that the escalation risks “spiralling out of control”, unless the parties halt the fighting.

In this powerful and deeply honest episode of Finding Faith Above, Shelby sits down with Lindsay, a woman of strong faith and biblical conviction, to tackle one of the hardest tensions facing Christians today: Are we called to keep the peace, or to make peace rooted in truth? This conversation goes where many avoid. Together, Shelby and Lindsay unpack the difference between peacekeeping (appeasement and silence) and peacemaking (love grounded in truth) and why confusing the two can have eternal consequences. Sparked by Lindsay's widely shared open letter to her LDS friends, this episode compassionately explores why Christians and Latter-day Saints often use the same language but mean very different things when it comes to God, Jesus, salvation, and truth. These aren't minor theological disagreements. They are foundational questions that shape eternity. You'll hear Lindsay's personal faith journey, including how biblical literacy transformed her walk with Christ, humbled her self-righteousness, and gave her courage to speak truth even when it cost her relationships, comfort, and approval. This is not an episode about winning arguments. It's about loving people enough to tell the truth. Shelby and Lindsay also dive into: Why unity without truth is not biblical peace How to lovingly engage LDS friends without compromising the gospel Why asking hard questions is not dangerous, but necessary How archaeology, ancient manuscripts, and apologetics affirm the reliability of the Bible Why Christianity is an evidence-based faith, not blind belief How biblical literacy equips you to recognize counterfeit gospels If you've ever felt torn between loving people and standing firm in truth, this episode will give language, clarity, and courage to that tension. I will be welcoming Pete Breidahl to the show. In 2008 Pete was a soldier serving as a "Peacekeeper" on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Island chain, when on a long-range patrol deep into its impenetrable jungles, Pete met a terrified young man that had never met a white man before. But he wasn't scared by the soldiers, he feared the creature he had encountered that morning while hunting. He described a classic "Bigfoot" type creature, and after a quick google search back at base Pete soon realized that Bigfoot and "Giant" sightings on Guadalcanal were very common indeed. Pete never forgot this encounter and returned in search of the creatures as soon as he had left the military.
Martialling Peace: How the Peacekeeper Myth Legitimises Warfare (Edinburgh University Press, 2023) by Dr. Nicole Wegner is not a book about peacekeeping practices. This is a book about storytelling, fantasies and the ways that people connect emotionally to myths about peacekeeping. The celebration of peacekeeping as a legitimate and desirable use of military force is expressed through the unproblematised acceptance of militarism. Introducing a novel framework – martial peace – the book offers an in-depth examination of the Canadian Armed Forces missions to Afghanistan and the use of police violence against Indigenous protests in Canada as case examples where military violence has been justified in the name of peace. It critically investigates the peacekeeper myth and challenges the academic, government and popular beliefs that martial violence is required to sustain peace. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose doctoral work focused on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. You'll walk away with simple, practical tools couples can use this week to lower defenses, restore connection, and rebuild trust.

How do children really experience their parents' separation? In this episode, Thom explores why children are often far more adaptive to a family separation than adults assume, and how they unconsciously mirror the emotional state of their parents. Drawing on the Vedic worldview, Thom explains why change is evolutionary, why staying together “for the children” can be harmful, and how honoring the other parent protects a child's sense of self. A compassionate and clarifying perspective for any parent navigating relationship change. You can also watch this episode on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/YRsKT1togKwEpisode Highlights[00:45] Children Tend to be Peacekeepers[03:28] Involve a Third Party for the Child to Speak With[07:01] Protecting Children's Emotions[09:26] Don't Stay Together “For the Children”[12:57] Change is Evolutionary[15:18] Avoid Speaking Ill of Each Other[18:00] Honor the Other ParentUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

TEXT US A COMMENT!Most men think “keeping the peace” is a virtue. In reality, it is often just fear of losing comfort. In this Dangerous Discipline episode, Rory goes straight at the lie of peacekeeping and exposes how fake peace is quietly destroying marriages, training kids to be weak, and draining spiritual authority from a man's life. You will learn the difference between a peacekeeper who avoids conflict and a peacemaker who enters conflict with courage, truth, and conviction. We break down the habits of both, why God calls men to wage war for real peace, and how to start stepping into hard conversations instead of running from them.If your default move is to stay quiet, smooth things over, and “not rock the boat,” this episode is your wake-up call.3. Ask Me How I Know: Multifamily Investor Stories of Struggle to Success
Performance pressure and role fatigue often make leaders shrink back. If you fear being “too much,” this episode shows how recalibration restores peace — so your full presence becomes a gift, not a burden.Have you ever held back an idea in a meeting, softened your words so they wouldn't sound “too passionate,” or dimmed your presence because you didn't want to overwhelm others? For many high-capacity humans, the fear of being “too much” quietly shapes their leadership and their life.In this episode of The Recalibration, Julie Holly unpacks why leaders shrink themselves — and how to break free. Through personal reflection on a lifetime of feeling self-conscious about her energy, and the cultural story of Marc Andreessen, who was criticized as brash and “too much” in the early internet era yet went on to shape Netscape and Andreessen Horowitz, Julie reframes what “too much” really means. From an Identity-Level Recalibration (ILR) lens, this fear usually comes from outdated roles: the Pleaser, who thinks it's safer to stay small than risk disapproval; the Peacekeeper, who confuses harmony with suppression; and the Perfectionist, who edits presence until it feels unthreatening. Neuroscience names this pattern social safety bias — the brain exaggerates the risk of rejection, so shrinking feels like safety. But what feels safe in the moment becomes suffocating over time. Here's the truth: You are not too much. You are exactly the right size for your assignment. ILR restores this identity, retraining your nervous system to hold presence without apology. Without recalibration, presence feels like performance. With recalibration, presence feels like peace. This episode is for every leader who feels role fatigue, decision fatigue, or the emptiness of success without fulfillment. It's not another mindset tactic or productivity hack — it's the root-level recalibration that makes every other tool effective.Today's Micro Recalibration:Where am I shrinking myself? What would it look like to bring my full presence without apology? How might my leadership create permission for others to expand? If this episode gave you language you've been missing, please rate and review the show so more high-capacity humans can find it.
