Comic shops are likely going the way of shopping malls, arcades and soon, movie theaters. Another major comic book retailer in Philadelphia is closing its doors, possibly forever. In fact, they've been EVICTED after almost 50 years in business because they can't pay their rent. Fat Jack's Comicrypt joins dozens of other major metropolitan retailers packing it in after DECADES in business. No, there is no coming back from this. We'll never have a thriving comic shop ecosystem like we did before the pandemic. Comics will go on, but comic shops as an institution are basically over. “My name is Gabriel Valentin and when it comes to comics and video games, I am a hopeless romantic. I'm talking rose petals on the bed, champagne in the ice bucket and of course a little bit of mood lighting before I stock up on potions and head into the next dungeon. My deepest passions have forever been music and storytelling. I've spent over a decade touring, working with writers and assisting music producers in their recording sessions. In 2014 I decided to unite my loves of music and storytelling together, to create the live art show known as Digital Lizards Of Doom. It has and always will be a love letter to the sci-fi/fantasy genre. At every D.L.O.D. performance I feature silly songs that build upon the world of the two main characters, a heroic lizard named Dizzy Doom and an evil robot named Commander E.K.O. Within the first year of D.L.O.D.'s conception, I had completed three national tours, was showcased on six different cable networks, secured a record deal with Noize Cartel Records and was asked to create a pop culture YouTube series for Meltdown Comics and Collectibles, a noted Hollywood comic store. Having the chance to work with Meltdown only added fuel to my passion for the arts and gave me the ingredients needed to feed my hunger for all things nerdy. I have helped develop entertainment for channels like Nerdist, SYFY, SPIKE TV, Warner Bros and Nintendo. With all of the relationships that I have made in the entertainment industry, I sincerely believe I have the ability to work in any environment of the entertainment world, so lets get together and write another sappy love letter to all things wonderful and exciting.”

It was a welcome surprise to see Steven Prince, the writer, artist and creator of Rylend's favorite comic book, Monster Matador, show up to the podcast too with Rylend! Turns out, they collaborated on something called Tales From the World of Monster Matador. It was an interesting conversation, hearing about how Steven is more of an improvisational writer whereas Rylend is more structured, but they were still able to find a unified voice. We also talk about building a fanbase, different approaches to comic publishing, the importance of the Meltdown Comics community and more! ~Aaron

If you like comics and celebrity interviews, this is your show. Each week we’re joined by a new guest, who hits up a local comic book shop with host Jon Schnepp and peruses the wares while also discussing their career, upcoming projects, and of course their favorite comic books. In this week’s episode, Schnepp and Rooker head to Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles and engage in a wide-ranging conversation that covers everything from his love of The Hulk to his knife-throwing skills to the making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Rooker talks about how technological advances in filmmaking have made comic book adaptations better, recounting some experiences on the set of the Marvel movies working against a blue screen. The actor also reveals how he originally couldn’t take the role of Yondu due to his Walking Dead commitments, but he got the call that his character was being killed off just in time to make the Guardians of the Galaxy schedule work. Rooker also discusses why director James Gunn told him not to pay attention to the comics, talks about Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 and his now-famous “Mary Poppins” line, and of course engages in plenty of comics-centric conversation with Schnepp. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Blu-ray, 4K, DVD, and Digital HD.Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/colliderdotcom

My question is how long do you think the studios will remain committed to producing physical media? Are they in a hurry to make us all use only digital, or does having both suit them? My concern is that when they discs stop being manufactured then the players will stop being updated/improved, too - and then my library will be on borrowed time. I live in the UK and we don't have Movies Anywhere to make a digital collection a coherent alternative, or a credible service to digitise already owned discs.  Just wondered what you guys thought, or knew, of the studios' intentions long term.”   Other posts referenced in this episode /Filmcast Ep. 278 – Transformers: Age of Extinction Netflix Abandons the Idea of Gamifying Binging For Kids; Here's How They Could Use That Tech Instead Shout!
