Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Gary Hall, son of comedian Huntz Hall. If you are a fan of The Bowery Boys or The Dead End Kids, you absolutely know Huntz by his trademark hat and his verbal and physical comedy. Along with his pal Leo Gorcey, Hall made countless films together – there were 48 alone for The Bowery Boys – and even appeared together on Broadway which kicked things off in 1935. They were so indelibly linked together that The Beatles wanted to put them both on the cover of their Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but only one of them is on there. Hear why on this episode! We also talk to Gary about his often strained if loving relationship with his father who was often at work and play so much there wasn't much of a bond between father and son. We discuss much of his film career including later films like The Phynx, Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood andValentino. We also discuss how Huntz and host Josh Mills' mother, actress Edie Adams starred in a production in the late 80s of the classic Arsenic and Old Lace along with Dody Goodman, Jonathan Frid and James Mac Arthur. Whoa, that a trip that would have been! Moreover, we get a dose of classic Hollywood upbringing when we discuss Gary's involvement with the school administration of The Oakwood School, which Josh attended and many of our podcast guests have come from. This is the Rarified Podcast. Everyone has a story.

Richard Lewis"This is Joyce, Richard's wife. Thank you for your loving tributes. He would be beyond thrilled and so touched, as am I. In response to the many queries , I know Richard would appreciate donations in his memory to the Los Angeles based charity http://comedygivesback.com or the charity of your choice.""If you wish to know who Richard Lewis truly was, I urge you to see his greatest dramatic achievement, a 1995 motion picture titled “Drunks”.As a comedian there were few who could match his Lenny Bruce inspired delivery.Lenny's daughter Kitty was a friend of Mr. Lewis as she respected his comedic bravery. The film is an enduring creation combining all of the creative and complicated parts that made this man one of the most unique artists of our time.Richard was a grateful, kind and beloved recovering alcoholic and drug addict with 30 plus years of sobriety at the time of his death.Lewis had been sober since the mid-1990s after ending up in the ER, feeling near death. He went on to become an advocate for others treading the same path, including actress Jamie Lee Curtis.“He helped me. I am forever grateful for him for that act of grace alone,” Curtis said in a series of Instagram posts paying tribute to her co-star in the sitcom “Anything But Love,” which aired on ABC from 1989-1992."- Rich Buckland Norm McDonald Over the years Norm McDonald made numerous appearances on various late-night shows, including Late Night with David Letterman and Conan, eventually assuming a revered “comedian's comedian” stature as he routinely left Letterman, O'Brien and anyone within earshot in stitches. In one memorable 2014 appearance on Conan — which O'Brien's Team Coco later posted on YouTube under the title “Norm Macdonald Tells the Most Convoluted Joke Ever” — Macdonald reduces the talk show host and his sidekick Andy Richter to tears of laughter and frustration with a rambling, shaggy-dog tale about Quebec, beluga whales, baby dolphins and an outrageous pun that prompts O'Brien to admit, “I love you, I really do.”Shecky GreeneAmong the many notable stories about Greene's life used for material, perhaps his most famous include him driving his car into the the fountain in front of Caesars Palace and Sinatra saving his life when five men were beating him, per The New York Times. On television, Greene starred as Pvt. Braddock in ABC's Combat! for eight episodes, and later made appearances in The Fall Guy and The A-Team in the '80s. His film work includes appearances in 1971's The Love Machine, 1976's Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood and Mel Brooks' 1981 hit History of the World: Part I, in which he played Marcus Vindictus.Leo GorceyLeo was every bit as recognizable to the average man and woman as Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Jimmy Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Bob Hope. The leader of the Dead End Kids, the Bowery Boys or the Eastside Kids, depending on the year, the diminutive Gorcey was the reason the series were successful. They sputtered and died after Leo opted out of Hollywood around 1956 and headed for his “ranch” on the Sacramento River near Los Molinos, living there for a good part of the time until his death, three wives and a dozen years later.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Gary Hall, son of actor/comedian Huntz Hall. Like many of our episodes, we find that there are way more questions than there is time to answer and this episode was absolutely one of them. We talk to Gary about, of course, The Bowery Boys and the Dead End Kids of which Huntz Hall a part of since the first Broadway show in 1935 to the last incarnation of the gang in 1958. As Sach Jones, Hall was featured in literally a couple hundred short films and features and became known for his comic relief, his upturned cap and his outrageous behavior, both on and as we learn from Gary, and off the camera. We also spoke with Gary about his mother, Louise Hall who was a pioneer wardrobe and costumer in the 1970s. She worked on shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bewitchedand Get Smart meaning….his mother not only dressed Elizabeth Montgomery, Barbara Feldon and Mary Tyler Moore, she basically was at the forefront of the women's movement figuratively and literally because of her genius. She was quite the trail blazer as we learn from Gary because as a woman she could not get a job in another part of the business because of her sex. Gary was a fascinating person to talk to as he is now the second person we've had on the podcast from a pretty unique profession. He also talks about his stint as the principal at the Oakwood School where Josh went to school from K through 9th grades. Gary's insight gives us a fascinating background on why and how the school was founded and it's roots in the progressive movement and show business and why they intersect. Oh and did I mention, that Gary's father and Josh's mother Edie Adams starred in a Florida production of Arsenic and Old Lace in 1988 co-starring Dody Goodman, James Mac Arthur and Dark Shadow's Jonathan Frid? Yeah this is a good one. Take a listen to the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
Welcome to Episode 3 of BULLSHITTERY Podcast! Look at you, supporting this chaotic artist by listening to her chaotic podcast!? Legend!? Hellooooo! Join me as I chat with my friend Adam Rose; actor, dancer, content creator, comedy icon, blue-cardigan king, dad & hubby! Adam is the best & I'm so happy you're here to learn more about his illustrious life as a performer. Here's his IMDb bio: Rose made his debut opposite Robin Williams and Julie Kavner in Woody Allen's Deconstructing Harry. Born to a would-be Rabbinical cantor and an opera singer, Rose embraced music at an early age and excelled at Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and the martial arts training he underwent. It was during this same time that Rose was cast to be the voice of Peanut for three years, as the title-character on PB & J Otter, a cartoon on the Disney Channel. Soon after Rose would perform under the direction of Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Thoroughly Modern Millie) alongside Kristen Johnston and John Pankow in Peter Hedges' Baby Anger. The successful portrayal of a young boy with cancer led to subsequent guest spots on TV's Ed and Third Watch.Having developed a passion for live theater, Rose landed a role on stage with Theodore Bikel in The Gathering and went on to tour with three consecutive productions - including the pre-Broadway tour with Hal Linden. Throughout his time on stage and in recording booths, Rose continued to grow his love for dance, and at age 15 went on to become the youngest to ever teach dance at the renowned Broadway Dance Center in New York. While continuing to study the dramatic arts at New York's famed LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, he appeared on the hit series The Sopranos and the Comedy Central movie The Hebrew Hammer, starring Adam Goldberg. It was soon after that Rose had the honor of working with Noah Baumbach, Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, and Anna Paquin in the Oscar-nominated The Squid and the Whale, as Otto - the best friend of Walt, played by Jesse Eisenberg. After four years of Shakespeare, character study, dialects, clowning (-study, not literally), vocal and dance training and all other school subjects, Rose was done with High School and ready to head west. The exodus was aided by his role on the production of Dead End, directed by Nicholas Martin at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles' famous Music Center. Rose starred as Angel, one of the Dead End Kids, alongside Jeremy SIsto, Tom Everett Scott, Joyce Van Patten, and Kathryn Hahn. He later appeared in HBO's Voyeur Internet project, directed by Jake Scott, and soon after earned a role in Kenneth Lonergan's Margaret. Rose once again found himself on-set with Anna Paquin, along with Matthew Borderick, Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo, and Kieran Culkin, just to name a few. While still acclimating to life in LA, Rose continued to make appearances on many hit TV shows. Follow Adam everywhere at @realadamrose. This week in Episode 455, we have two great “Frank” interviews! First up, it’s the return of creator Frank Gogol from Grief, No Heroine, and Dead End Kids, all from Source Point Press. Frank has a new comic coming called Dead End Kids: The Suburban Job, which is described this way: “Seven years after the deadly events of September 11th, three teens struggle with the long-term fallout of that tragic day. But these former friends are brought back together when they find themselves in the crosshairs of a local drug dealer who’s out for blood. Can they put their personal traumas aside long enough to work together and survive? No Heroine’s Frank Gogol reteams with Nenad Cviticanin for an all-new entry in the Dead End Kids saga.” We’re talking before this book hits the November Diamond Previews, so let your local comics shop know you want it when it becomes available. Frank is a fast-rising star in comics, so be sure to check out his website as well as his social media entries, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook! Then everything wraps up when I interview Frank Martin, creator of Modern Testament: Anthology of the Ethereal, about his new horror comic book, The Macabre Motel, which is available now for support here on Kickstarter! Here’s how the book is described: “A Twilight Zone-esque episode about a trip to see a girlfriend, a detour to a motel, and the weird guests that refuse to let you leave.” He’s well on its way to meeting his goal, so expect great stretch goals to happen soon! This Kickstarter will conclude on Wednesday, October 28, at 11:59 p.m. EST, so be sure to back it as soon as you finish listening to this podcast! Have you checked out Ryan Murphy's Hollywood yet on Netflix? We talked about it in our last episode and made special mention of Jim Parsons' stand out performance as lecherous agent/manager, Henry Willson. If you are as curious about the true story of Henry Willson as we were, here's a Shorty where we give you the backstory you didn't see in the limited series! In the series, Willson tells the story of his lost love, actor Junior Durkin. We'd never heard of Durkin, but then, by chance, we were browsing the Criterion Channel (also available on Prime) this week and found a movie called Hell's House. Durkin was third billing to Bette Davis and Pat O'Brien, but he was really the star of the film, and had he had a longer career might have done more of these kids gone wrong movies ala' The Dead End Kids. Durkin did 10 movies between 1930 and 1934. In two, he was credited as Bernard Durkin. In Hell's House, he was credited as Junior Dirken, and by 1934 he was credited in two films as "Trent" Durkin. We don't know, but it seems like a good bet that the change to "Trent" came from the mind of Henry Wilson, who named his stable of actors names like Rock, Troy, Yale, and Tab. Durkin sadly died in a car crash in 1934. He was only 19 years old. If Durkin's death was the catalyst that led to the bitter, drunken trajectory of Willson's life, we'll never know, but we're glad to add Durkin to our gallery of actors you should know. Don't have Criterion Channel or Prime Video? Watch to Hell's House below. (full movie) on our website.

Lindsay as “one of the most impressive entries into comics I’ve seen a creator make.” Then we move to Dead End Kids, called “Stand by Me meets Hardy Boys.” He has some great news for us fans about the future of this book, then he talks about a super sale for both of these series’ coming very soon! We also explore what we can expect from him in the future, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy what he has to say! Be sure to check out his website as well as his social media entries, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!

This is the first time I’m posting a second full episode in a week, that wasn’t a bonus episode! I’m excited and hope that y’all are too. Because, if the response is good and y’all keep listening, I’m going to try to make this a permanent thing. Today, I sit down with Anderson Munro, founder of the lifestyle brand Bluu Dreams. If you recognize Anderson’s name from the podcast it’s because a few weeks ago he was on one of the bonus Episodes recorded Live at WMCFest. I had a great time talking with Anderson and was curious to learn more about him, so I invited him back for a full episode. We talk about everything from growing up a first generation American, to being an accountant by day, to his exciting new work with Mitchell & Ness, RenArts, and Reebok for The Dead End Kids, a ’86 Mets capsule.
The Theatre Guild On The Air - The theatrical society in U.S.A. is termed as Theatre Guild. Founded in New York City in 1918 by Lawrence Langner (1890-1962) and others, the group proposed to produce high-quality, noncommercial plays. After the premiere of George Bernard Shawâs Heartbreak House in 1920, the Guild became his U.S. agent and staged 15 of his plays. It also produced successful plays by Eugene OâNeill, Maxwell Anderson, and Robert Sherwood and featured actors such as the Lunts and Helen Hayes. It helped develop the American musical by staging Porgy and Bess (1935), Oklahoma!
