CLUBAST 093 comes in heavy with a mix from some of my favorite producer/djs in Philly, @zillasonacid They delivered that perfect Zillas sound that I can only describe as Basement House & Rolling Sleazy Techno. Since the 2019 release of their EPs Black Cat (Optimo Music) and She Takes NRG (Ivan Smagghe's Les Disques de la Mort), the Zillas have been busy building a steady catalog of music for labels like Polari, Nocturne, Dischi Autunno, Inside Out, Multi Culti, Throne of Blood, Microdosing, and more. "A system that's equal doesn't benefit the people that have the power." The Rhythm Section International founder talks about creating opportunities for Black artists and entrepreneurs, Caribbean conviviality and his abiding love for Peckham. Bradley Zero, the DJ and founder of the label Rhythm Section International, is known for his commitment to his community. Zero grew up in a rich Caribbean culture in Leeds, where he and his family gathered in friends' living rooms to listen to music and eat home-cooked food. In opening Jumbi—the bar and listening space in London's Southeast neighborhood, Peckham—Zero has attempted to recreate this lively Caribbean conviviality. The venue is filled with his own personal record collection and one turntable. His style (as reflected in his imprint) celebrates house, soul, disco, funk and various shades of music from the afro-Caribbean diaspora. In this RA Exchange, he talks about how the neighborhood has changed in the time he's been based there, how and when his career exploded from local pool hall gigs to an active global touring schedule and why he decided to study for an MBA. October is British Black History Month in the UK, and in this interview, Zero also discusses ways that he hopes to empower the Black British community to start their own businesses and assert power from the top echelons of the music industry. Rhythm Section International has started a touring series of free masterclasses called Future Proof, in which Zero and his team invite guests to teach hard skills on business and label management, how to cultivate a brand and much more. "Just be obsessed with music. Love it." The beloved London artist gives a masterclass on how to make it as a DJ and build a sustainable career. Alice Moxom—better known by her stage name, Moxie—started out as a radio DJ on Kiss FM and NTS before playing parties and touring full-time. Now she has a label and party series that she curates called On Loop, which has invited artists like Matthew Herbert, Josey Rebelle, Leon Vynehall, K-Hand and Joy Orbison, in venues across Europe and the UK. The key to her success, she says, is that she hasn't rushed anything in her career. "Your sound can evolve and you can change," she says. "If you're thinking about this as a real career, the [opportunities] will always come around." In this episode of Resident Advisor's Exchange—the second in a three-part masterclass series called Future Proof, a collaboration with Rhythm Section—co-host Bradley Zero says that Moxie is "one of the most organized and graceful DJs on the circuit." She reveals how she has steadily built a career from the ground up, detailing how she's developed a synergistic relationship with her booking agent; selectively chosen gigs and mix opportunities; maneuvered stylistically without confusing promoters; and cultivated lasting relationships with a team of people she trusts. "It's through collaboration that I've grown most with my sound." In this collaboration with Rhythm Section, the multi-instrumentalist talks about how he found his style and started his career. Jordan Rakei is a self-made musician. A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer whose work dips into soul, hip-hop and electronic music, he moved to London from New Zealand, giving himself a four-month "buffer budget" to get his career off the ground. Now, he's released on Ninja Tune and Rhythm Section International, and has collaborated with a number of Grammy- and Oscar-award-nominated artists. But his journey wasn't easy, as he explains in this masterclass moderated by Roy Mills and Rhythm Section's Bradley Zero. Rakei talks about how to build a career as an independent artist, why he transitioned from working alone to working with a big agency, signing deals with labels, and living close to the edge in an expensive city. It's the first in a three-part series called Future Proof hosted by Rhythm Section International, all of which explore facets of creating and sustaining a career as a musician. To kick things off we are lucky enough to present you with one of the very best labels in present times, not only one of the best in London, or the UK, or even Europe, but a record label that is truly world class: Rhythm Section !!! This brainchild of Bradley Zero, is an ever-growing creative collective of like minded music lovers who have been throwing parities in Peckham since 2009. Their expansion from a grassroots party in London to a world renowned brand of record labels, radio shows, and studio spaces has been a phenomenal spectacle for those with their fingers on the pulse. And, it was the birth of Rhythm Section International in 2014 that truly consolidated their name among the greats: now boasting a whole host of releases from the scenes most respected artists and local talents alike : Al Dobson Jr., Henry Wu, Chaos In The CBD, FYI Chris, Earth Trax, and many many more… including some of our own esteemed guests - Hidden Spheres, Duke Hugh, and Rüf Dug. Our host, Z-Lovecraft (AKA Mali), is a resident and vital member of the Rhythm Section family. So what better way to begin this amazing Rhythm Section mixtape than with his very own edit of a past Bside Guest's (Rüf Dug) amazing track ‘Sunrise' under his Mali-I alias. Next month Rhythm Section International will release an album from Australian three man outfit Retiree. The long form assortment of abstract cuts and intriguing twists has a conceptual nature and has allowed the group to focus on a variety of themes whilst exploring the deinition of "house" and "home". The group is made up of Matt Crowley, Tori Holleman and Marco Vella who each compose various elements on the new forthcoming LP. Bradley Zero, the man behind Rhythm Section, has long since formed a close bond with the Australian musical community and has regularly championed upcoming artists from the country. Their appearance makes sense. We invited the group to record a mix for us which features music by the likes of Visible Cloaks, Gerry Read and Tori Holleman.

Belfast Music Club came to our attention with their frequent series of eclectic live shows on Belfast Underground Radio; showcasing a melting pot of cosmic disco, psyche, balearic beat, post punk and whatever fits their shapeshifting style. They also run parties in the city at The Hudson and Woodworkers venues, with nothing short of exquisite guest DJs regularly invited along. Recent highlights have included Clandestino favourites Apiento and Bradley Zero. Here they present a laid back, winter sun chill out mix selection for us. http://belfastmusicclub.com/

With a steady output of high quality cuts on Endless Flight, Wolf Music, Lumberjacks in Hell and his own Red Motorbike imprint, Ontario native Eddie C is as adept at covering downtempo, afro-cosmic sounds as he is with deeper, dance floor jams. Recent album 'On The Shore' for Mule Musiq is a must check. London folk should seek him out this Friday at label of the moment Rhythm Section's party with Bradley Zero in Peckham. https://soundcloud.com/eddiec
