This episode, we finally get ourselves started on the Fifth Doctor era as the Master returns (again) to taunt our new Doctor in Castrovalva… heh heh heh… Join us as we discuss just how young Peter Davison was when this was made, whether or not Adric was a little TOO excited at being tied up in the Master's web (or if it's just the harness), Tegan's need for “enormous thrust,” Bidmead's myriad weaknesses, and how the Master THINKS that he's a dom, but is clearly just a brat and all he wants is kisses (because he DESERVES them!)… this might be our most unhinged episode yet, to be honest. If you would like to watch along with us, you can find the this oddity available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). We continue where we left off in episode 27 with our exploration of the 1976 British anthology series "Beasts," written by the legendary Nigel Kneale (who now has his own dedicated page on our website!), tonight we watch the first of two episodes "The Dummy." Directed by Don Leaver (not Cleaver), a veteran of many shows from our youth and boasts credits on two episodes of "Hammer House of Horror": "Witching Time" and "The Mark of Satan" Bernard Horsfal as Clyde Boydl: He appeared in classic TV series like the very first episode of "The Avengers" and a four "Doctor Who" serials: "The Mind Robber," "The War Games," "The Planet of the Daleks," and "The Deadly Assassin." Glyn Houston as Sidney Stewart: another "Doctor Who" alumnus, having featured in "The Hand of Fear" and "The Awakening." The fantastically named Thorley Walters as Sir Ramsey: bringing a wealth of genre experience to the table, playing the Burgermeister in "Vampire Circus, "Dr. Hertz in "Frankenstein Created Woman" and Inspector Frisch in "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed,". Notably, Michael Sheard as the Sergeant, who gained fame for his portrayal of the tyrannical schoolteacher Mr. Bronson in Grange Hill during the mid-1980s. He also developed a niche for playing Adolf Hitler, appearing in four films: "Rogue Male," "The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," an uncredited role in "Hitler of the Andes." and in the TV series "The Tomorrow People." Sheard also made appearances in Doctor Who: "The Ark," "Mind of Evil," "Pyramid of Mars," "The Invisible Enemy," "Castrovalva," and "Remembrance of the Daleks. We also see Lillias Walker as Joan Eastgate - her obligatory Doctor Who appearance being "Terror of the Zygons", was married to Peter Vaughan, who starred in "Warning to the Curious." (episode 21) Patricia Haines as Sheila Boy - She also starred in "Virgin Witch" with first-time actor Vicky Michelle. Haines was married to Michael Caine with whom she had a daughter; sadly, this was her final screen role. And finally, of course, one of our most featured actors, Clive Swift (or as the Apple Podcasts AI transcript generator calls him, Kloof Swift). We've covered his career several times now, and I highly recommend Andrew Screens ‘Book of Beasts' blog for a fantastic, exhaustive biography. It seems that in the Time Ram Universe (TRU?) Paul McGann's Doctor Who was introduced to the Americans in 1996 with... 'Castrovalva'. In other words, the Master, complex continuity and endless TARDIS scenes. A sure fire hit! In this podcast (guest-starring Melanie Clark), we explore that possibility, but with added card counting, math vs maths and civilisations wiped out by swimming pool Stonehenges. Roundels forever!
No rest for the weary as the newly regenerated Doctor and his companions are forced to evade detention but lose Adric to The Master in the process. Things are made worse by the fact that The Doctor isn't quite himself as something is affecting his post regenerative state. This week, Paddy and Tricia follow The Doctor and his companions on his brand new era as they attempt to stay evade The Master's deadly traps. In order to do that, they first need to bring The Doctor to the healing world of Castrovalva.
New season, New Doctor! It's the Tegan and Nyssa show for most of Castrovalva as Adric is away with the Master and the Doctor spends most of the time in a box.
This week, we continue our celebration of 60 years of adventures in space and time as we say bienvenue to Peter Davison's 5th Doctor in 1982's Castrovalva
As much as I love Season 18 and its novelizations... the Season 19 premiere, "Castrovalva", and its novelization, are right up there. Especially the novelization, says my guest this week, Graeme Burk (@graemeburk) from Reality Bomb. We both read out favorite passages from the book -- and then quickly get off on several wide-ranging tangents, before coming back to the greatness of "Castrovalva". Simon Guerrier (@0tralala) recently tweeted out the first page of David Whitaker's unfinished novelization of "The Enemy of the World". The Doctor's latest regeneration has proven more unstable than his previous ones. and his companions have to help him recuperate on the planet of Castrovalva. but things are further complicated when Adric is captured by the Master, who wants to take advantage of the Doctor in his weakened state this is castrovalva welcome to regenerated why not take a look at our social media and give us a review on Apple Podcasts merchandise -https://teespring.com/en-GB/stores/regenerated facebook - www.facebook.com/regenerateddoctorwhopodcast/ twitter - twitter.com/Regenerated1963

Joe & Steven; caught in a space time trap! Who loves CHB more than CHB? Can Doctor Who work around an abstract concept? Will the Doctor face more than shifting architecture? Is this hard science? Plenty of glorious poetry, magic and melodrama.

Joe & Steven; the Occlusion closes in! What about the chapter titles? Time to talk Peter Davison and his thoughtful interiority. How would you rewrite this for a modern audience? More awesome new passages as we continue to celebrate the transcendent tome.

Joe & Steven; still no way in! What does top ten mean to Steven? Frock or gun explained. Two female leads are taking control of Doctor Who for one week and we're enamoured. Russian Roulette with the TARDIS? Aussie pilot? Hunted? Sedate, beautiful locations? Oh yes!

The NewsA great ebook has landed from John Collier taking a look at the Doctor Who exhibitions in Blackpool from the 70s, 80s and later in the mid-2000s. Blackpool Remembered is available to download for free https://blackpoolremembered7485.wordpress.com/blackpool-revisited-3/ (here). Review story this episode: CastrovalvaIt's been ages since we reviewed any Fifth Doctor stories and as a sort of follow up to our Tom Baker month, back in April where we finished on Logopolis, what do we think of Peter Davison's first adventure? Coming next week: Torchwood: FragmentsAn explosion rocks the TW team and we get an insight into each of their history joining TW and their various alien encounters. The class focuses on epistemological themes such as the Kabala-influenced idea of Logopolis, ideas of knowledge as social construction, popular theory discourse before the Sokal Hoax and Shardovan as epistemological hero.

On this weeks episode of the podcast we sit down to discuss the Doctor's father-in law. I mean the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, in his first episode: Castrovalva. Will Luu simp for Nyssa or Tegan this week? Listen to find out!
Lewis Moon and Dr Cool are back once again for an episode which they claim is almost a natural conversation which has somehow been recorded, but do not let that deter you from listening, as they grant us a Peter Davison era related programme featuring redeeming the Irredeemable on his post regeneration story Castrovalva and a review of Frontios. (Next Week-Redeeming the Irredeemable hits Closing Time while the Sixth Doctor gets his last review on the podcast with his first episode, the Twin Dilemma.)
Lewis Moon and Dr Cool are back for the usual array of distraction filled, sweet eating, childish humoured chat over the course of a forty minute period, where they share their views on Tom Baker era story Revenge of the Cybermen and Redeeming the Irredeemable reaches the often slated Capaldi story Sleep No more. (Next Week-It's a Davison focus show as Frontios gets a review and Castrovalva gets redeemed)
We further our discussion of sideways stories and posit that all of Who, or at the very least, all of Who set on Earth are sideways stories that diverge from our earth's timeline. The time of closest intersection with our own timeline is when new companions enters the TARDIS, but as they adventure with the Doctor their timelines grow further apart from reality. Opening music is from Castrovalva and closing music is from Meglos, both composed by Paddy Kingsland. We recorded this episode on 13 May 2020.

It’s Wednesday night, so we’re hanging out with some lovely drug-addled literary types and re-enacting all our favourite scenes from Castrovalva, all the while trying to ignore the urgent clanking sounds coming from the downstairs parlour. Tegan's keen to upgrade her driving licence. She's already gone from car to ambulance and now she's making the leap to time and space machine, but the engine's over-heated and she's got all hot and bothered. She needs to relax with a bit of indoor graffiti but she's not quite at Banksy's level yet. The Doctor's had a nasty fall and he now thinks the TARDIS needs one hell of a clear-out. Unfortunately, he also thinks the best way to do this is to wander the corridors putting on silly voices and taking his clothes off. This scars Nyssa's innocent teenage mind and the only way she can cope with things is to build coffins, throw wheelchairs into rivers and have secret meetings with her boyfriend in strange hotel rooms. The Master hopes they can all get past these problems because he's reserved a table for them at his new cliff-top restaurant. There's only one thing on the menu, a plan sandwich; a steak of the biggest, nastiest, most evil plan ever devised wrapped between two slices of lightly smoked plan. And if that wasn't evil enough, he's only gone and stuck a stick of celery on top. Bastard.
Our 13th episode sees us at the start of a brand new era as we review Peter Davison’s memorable debut: Castrovalva. We celebrate costume designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux and burly ballerinas in ‘Dressed for Success’, but criticise the story’s disempowerment of Nyssa and Tegan, and the seemingly endless wandering about TARDS corridors and forests that goes on. Meanwhile Alex does remarkably well in a companion quiz, Andy relates the joys of presiding over a kids sleepover, and the Cailleach is very grumpy about something. Thanks to Martin Holmes for his new illustration of us and the Cailleach which is doing the rounds on Twitter and which we both love. Next time: The Daleks! Please subscribe and review the podcast or get in touch with us on Twitter @worlenoughpod and @RomanaHarps We love you all xxx
This week's episode was late thanks to some bees that hadn't been kept in their hives. They took a Ferrari out for a test drive and let me tell you... Have you ever seen a car dealership/hotel/beekeeping place like this? Our TARDIS crew hasn't and that's just the beginning of their problems!! The other being this weird game of hide and seek Jeff is playing with Adric... DON'T LOOK IN THE MIRROR! Queue up your DVD player! Or media file! We’ll tell you when to press play Season 19, episode 3 "Castrovalva" so you can watch the story along with us. Don't worry if you don't have access to the episode though, you can easily listen to the podcast on its own for a different, if slightly more (or less!) confusing, experience.
In this week's exciting episode, Jeff's game plays to its final, dramatic conclusion, Tegan & Nyssa try to keep their clothes on, the Doctor discovers some very unusual fancy dress, Minivan's true identity is uncovered & Adric tries not to barf. Now with THAT kind of synopsis, how can you NOT listen straight away?? Don't worry, it's easy, no strings attached!!! Queue up your DVD player or media file & we’ll tell you when to press play Season 19, episode 4 "Castrovalva" so you can watch the story along with us, but don’t worry if you don’t have access to the episode though, you can easily listen to the podcast on its own without losing too much of the experience (although it's always a bit better with the video showing you what's happening!)
Another new era begins! This one features TWO new Doctors, one outgoing & one incoming! It also features 3 new companions & the Doctor's old friend, Jeff! What can possibly go wrong? And who is that introducing the episode... Tune in! Adric encourages it! Queue up your DVD player! Or media file! We’ll tell you when to press play on Season 19, episode 1 "Castrovalva" so you can watch the story along with us. You can also listen to the podcast on its own for a different, if slightly more (or less!) confusing, experience.
The Doc is in a box, but not with a fox. He has the picnic. Tegan and Nyssa try to rent a car from A Dealership on a rock, and the natives get restless. Does this leave them all in a Jam? Tune in to find out. The real question is, what about Jeff?! Queue up your DVD player! Or media file! We’ll tell you when to press play Season 19, episode 2 "Castrovalva" so you can watch the story along with us. You can also listen to the podcast on its own for a different, if slightly more (or less!) confusing, experience.

"All the baddie podcasts have got together to lock us in a big box" Ben and Mark FINALLY reach the end of Series 5 with a discussion about The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang and Castrovalva. Along the way, they ponder how a Dalek would read an Usborne guide to the Romans, pitch a potential Big Finish boxed set, sing Alanis Morissette, sing Morrissey and just generally have a good time. Whilst some of the chat is potentially a by-product of booze and two friends having not seen each other for a while, there are also some more measured discussions of Amy and Rory's relationship, the problems with the Davison era and a lot of 80s Doctor Who as a whole, and what makes for a good debut from a Doctor.

Pete and Tim make up some fake facts about debut of the Fifth Doctor. Find out who made Adric puke, the value of a photo of Peter Davison, why the Shardovan wears a silly hat and more!
Set the controls for Relax Island and snuggle up in your space coffin! It's time once again for Dan and Eric to review CLASSIC DOCTOR WHO! This episode: the first Peter Davison story - CASTROVALVA. So sit back and listen as them talk about Adric's buldge, Teegan's driving and spoil the occasional DUNE plot point.
Finally, we see what all the fuss has been about! It's Ross' Doctor, Peter Davison. The new Doctor is young, but his regeneration is rough. He has new companions -- Adric, Nyssa (from Trakken) and Tegan (from Brisbane). It's the beginning of some rough years, lots of costumes instead of clothes, but some genius stories sprinkled in with some crowded control rooms. Listen while Ross explains why this Doctor resonated for him.
"What are you concealing from me, boy?" Not enough, some might say, for this is Castrovalva - where Master Waterhouse introduces the innocent and unsuspecting viewer to "Little Matthew" . But that's not the only harrowing element of the Fifth Doctor's first outing. The Time Lord himself is made incompetent (and incontinent?) by his regeneration but still gets to go on a self-propelling wheelchair and pulls off decent impressions of his former selves - and Basil Fawlty (the War Hotelier). Tegan gets hot and bothered, Nyssa gets moist and, of course, Adric has a semi on, before they all meet Chardonnay Shardovan and his sheep-in-wolf's-clothing chums. There's a fly in the ointment, of course, and this one has a risible, raisable platform, a double-decker perspex top hat and a penchant for looking at boys on the dark web. But does the new Doctor bowl Jim and Martin over? Or is he out first ball? Find out here.
The fourth Doctor has left us and the fifth Doctor is here to stay. Petter and Breki sit down with some trepidation, wondering if this will be the moment when Doctor Who loses them and finds them looking for newer and better shows to watch. Strangely, however, their expectations are dashed and they find themselves quite enjoying the show!
Wanderers in the 4th Dimension: A Journey Through Doctor Who
This week we cover story #116, Castrovalva! With the newly-regenerated Doctor out of commission with regeneration sickness, Tegan and Nyssa step up to get him to a peaceful place where he can recover. But what treachery hides at the heart of this maze of a city, and who could be behind it? (Surprise, it's the Master!) QotW: Castrovalva was named after a piece of art. We said goodbye to Tom last week, and so this week all four of us are here to discuss Pete’s first story, set on a delightfully bucolic planet in the Phylox series. Time to dress up like a cricketer and lock yourself in a small cupboard — it’s Castrovalva.
I hope that when the wheelchairs take over they don’t find this. This week Kiyan and Dylan bravely soldier forth without their leading man Tom Baker. There’s this weird scruffy blonde dude now, can’t quite remember his name. Pete probably. It’s Castrovalva, written by Christopher H. Bidmead and aired in January of 1982. Happy May, everybody! Hope you're ready for block transfer computation and charged vacuum emboitments, because this month Erik and Kyle are going to be talking about the Doctor Who stories written by Christopher Hamilton Bidmead, a writer and script editor who ushered in a whole year of hard science mathematics (deserving a badge for excellence, maybe?), with his three stories "Logopolis," "Castrovalva," and "Frontios." How do they fare under the scrutiny of the DWTWR pair? WE'LL SEE!!
The Master captures TARDIS crew member Adric in a web of power lines as fellow companions Tegan and Nyssa take the Doctor to the planet Castrovalva to recover from his most unstable regeneration yet. Email: contact@thedoctorscompanion.us NEXT: “The Twin Dilemma”
In what is sure to be the single most controversial episode of Oi! Spaceman to date, Shana doesn't much care for The Caves of Androzani. Basically for predictable gender politics reasons, but it's broader than that. They are joined by their podcast boyfriend Jack Graham once again to discuss the story, Holmes's legacy, Withnail and I, and other off-topic things. Main Topic: The Caves of Androzani. Mamet. Gender politics. "Super gay and Jack." Podcast boyfriends. One thing about Castrovalva. Frontios and the tractators. Nostalgia. A query to Shana. The greatest? Fourth Doctor as performed by Davison. "You had to be there." Snarky and caustic. Sympathy for Matt Smith. Jek and Davros and Vaughn and Chen. Costuming. Out-Sawarding Saward. Suffocating. "Killing the Fifth Doctor." Fibro fog. Best ever? Androzani and Ribos. Cocktail party Jek. Empathy. Shakespeare. Rapey Jek and damseled Peri. "She does not have big tits!" One-note Peri. Adorable bunny. Opposite ends. Holmes and the marginalization of women. Timmin and Diana Goddard. "Adric." "I can hear Shana's eyes rolling from here." American. The politics of Caves. Thatcher's eighties looks like utopia. Cynicism. Holmes' navel. Chain reaction. Androzani lacks a Binro. Expecting better of the eighties. Withnail and I. The sound of a man getting old. Hugo-nominated Jack. Shabogan Graffiti Conglomerate. Next week: The Mysterious Planet. Shana on Shabcast 17 talking about Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal. Daniel and Shana are joined by working actor and the current Ben Jackson for Big Finish Elliot Chapman in what was supposed to be a thorough discussion of Castrovalva. As it happened, very little actual analysis of Peter Davison's first story actually occurred. Instead, the trio discuss Elliot's work for Big Finish, including working with Anneke Wills and Frazer Hines, as well as some of his techniques in capturing the authentic Ben without resorting to caricature. They then move on to discuss the Fifth Doctor era in general, especially the soapier elements and some of the pacing issues in Bidmead's script. Finally, they have a brief conversation about the actual story, largely revolving around the ideas of creations overcoming their creators and the role of the tapestry as TV screen. Main Topic: Castrovalva. With special guest Elliot Chapman. Phallic symbols. Promiscuous Elliot. Other podcasts. Ben Jackson. Shana's podcast boyfriend. The buck stops with the script. Replacing Michael Craze. Frazer and Anneke. Watching New Who with Frazer and Anneke. Jamie/Davros/Quark fan fiction. Moving into Castrovalva. Post-regeneration fog. Flawed genius. "Who cares about intention anyway?" Transition. JNT undercutting Tegan. Janet Fielding learns how to act on the job. Costumes and aesthetics. No emotions. Could have been padded in interesting ways. Earliest Who. The Sam Seeleys. Soap opera Who. A Tartovsky reference. White male oppressor. Pacing. Dealing with the format. Three acts. "Castravulva." Feminized Five. Miscast in the most wonderful way. "Get his balls back." Davison versus Baker. The fucking cricket outfit. Thatcher's jingoism. Miscast brilliantly. Posh-boy thing. Block transfer computation. The Mind Robber. Klein bottles. Moving Shardovan. The Dog Agrees! Influential Bidmead. Didn't talk about Adric's cock. Wrapping Up. Next week: The last four episodes of Series 9. Find Our Stuff! In this episode Shana and Daniel wave goodbye to Tom Baker (for now) in their discussion of Logopolis. First, though, Daniel rambles on by himself for a few minutes about why you're not getting a discussion of Sleep No More and Face the Raven today. There's some computer science, some mispronouncing of words, some chat about Hitler and even a little bit of conversation about the episode in question. Shana might even prefer Ainley to Delgado! Main Topic: Logopolis. Sexual fetish out the gate. Out of order recording. "Jack Graham and Hitler." Americans don't get parlaimentary systems. Last stories. "Who's that White Dude?" Bratty Four. Billions of people killed. Dad's going through his goth phase. Resourceful Adric. Bidmead. Pacing. Preistly numerology. Visuals. All have wedge-heads. Authortarian monitor. Neal Stephenson. Moustache-twirling. Terror of the Autons. Jokers and Batmans. Regeneration. Interiority of the Master. Deserts. Daniel can't pronounce "Logopolitans." Cultural appropriation of radio telescope designs. "A little niche even for Doctor Who fans." Change three words. New podcast spinoff. Not a metaphor. Tom Baker's last season. Wrapping Up. In this weeks show it's part two of the lads commentary for Castrovalva, episodes 3 and 4. Yes, as this was recorded last week, the trio bravely continue in the sweltering London heat, drinking wine and talking nonsense as usual. However, it appears that the heat gets to Phil as he completely misses the point of the Shardovan and becomes attached to a Scotsman. And in a hastily inserted news section, another series 8 trailer, Philip Morris and the ongoing talk of missing episodes, news on the Deep Breath DVD release in North America, the enormous DVD/Blu-ray 50th Anniversary boxset and the DWAS honour Verity Lambert.
On this weeks edition of the Who's He? Podcast they've gone beige with an audio commentary for episodes 1 and 2 of Castrovalva. During the dissection of this story, they bravely try to bring you facts of the day of original broadcast and make Tony play the guess the ratings game. The lads are also fuelled with wine which causes Phil to make a rather naughty comment! And in the news, they catch up all the leaks from the BBC, news of a BFI showing of Deep Breath and in Omega's Tat Corner, action figures that seem to get worse the more they make.
Tonight we dive into the 80's with Peter Davison's first story as the Doctor, Castrovalva. Stacy joins in on this story and podcast review. Will Jeremy think highly of the Fifth Doctor, a Doctor he has never seen? Will Michael go first with his review? Will Stacy remember this story from her childhood? Find out in this week's very fun episode!
We’re back! After our brief hiatus we come crashing back to the podosphere to look at Peter Davison’s very first adventure. We tackle new beginnings, people made of maths, zero room coffins and silly hats. But you should be warned we have no understanding of telebiogenesis.
Will and Laurie natter about the Kamelion Tales boxed set while ginned up. River Song has asked us to mention that their will be SPOILERS for The King's Demons, Planet of Fire, The Keeper of Traken, Logopolis and Castrovalva. So if you don't want to know who Shardovan is, look away now.

The , , and arrive on a spaceship which is headed for . On board they meet natives of Earth from various different eras, and also three Urbankans: Monarch, Persuasion and Enlightenment. What are the aliens' intentions when they reach Earth? Plot The TARDIS materializes on board a vast and advanced alien spacecraft, observed by a hovering surveillance device which conveys the arrival of the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric to an observing being that is in control of the vessel. The TARDIS crew become separated and the Doctor and Tegan reach the bridge of the vessel where the green-skinned commander introduces himself as Monarch, ruler of Urbanka, and his associates and fellow Urbankans are the Ministers of Enlightenment and Persuasion. The leader is intrigued by talk of current Earth civilisation and reveals their ship is bound for Earth. Shortly afterward Enlightenment and Persuasion seemingly regenerate into human form, dressed in garments Tegan designed to demonstrate contemporary Earth fashions. The TARDIS crew are reunited as guests aboard the ship and it soon becomes apparent that there are four distinct human cultures represented on the vessel by a small group of humans – Ancient Greeks, the leader of whom is the philosopher Bigon; Chinese Mandarins and their leader Lin Futu; Princess Villagra and representatives of the Mayan people; and Kurkutji and his tribesmen, of the very ancient Australian Aborigine culture. The Urbankans have made periodic visits to Earth, each time getting speedier in their journeys. This time they have left their homeworld after erratic solar activity, storing three billion of their species on slides aboard their craft, and it seems the current journey is their last and they now wish to settle on Earth, which they are due to reach in four days time. The Doctor becomes suspicious of Monarch and soon learns that the Urbankan does not plan on peaceful co-existence: instead, he has developed a virus to wipe out humanity, and this will be unleashed before the Urbankans disembark. He also finds out that the humans aboard are not descendents of the original abductees, but are the original people taken from Earth and converted into androids like the three Urbankans walking around on board. The four leaders of the peoples have been given additional circuits to help them reason, but this facility can be taken away, as Bigon learns when he crosses Monarch once too often. He explained to the Doctor that Monarch strip-mined and destroyed Urbanka in a quest for minerals to improve the ship, and now plans to do the same to Earth. Monarch believes that if he can move the ship faster than the speed of light, he can pilot it back to the beginning of time and discover himself as God… Adric, nevertheless, is rather taken with Monarch, and tensions between him and the Doctor become very strained. It takes the truth to break the alien's hold over the boy. The Doctor now sets about over-throwing Monarch and, with the help of the human androids led by a restored Bigon, a revolution is put into effect. Enlightenment and Persuasion are de-circuited, while Monarch himself is exposed to the deadly toxin and killed. It seems he was a product of the weak “flesh time” after all, having never, as the Doctor suspected, been fully converted into an android. The humanoid androids decide to pilot the vessel to a new home on a new world, while the TARDIS crew departs. Back in the console room, Nyssa suddenly collapses to the floor in a dead faint. Cast notes Guest stars in this serial include as Monarch and as Lin Futu. See . Continuity The provides an alternative explanation, beyond mere exhaustion, for Nyssa's collapse at the end of this story. The canonicity of the audio dramas, however, is unclear. When the Doctor tells Tegan "Who'll believe us? We'll be laughed at!" when she wants to get to Earth to warn them about Monarch's plan, he has clearly forgotten the purpose/existence of , the , for which he was unpaid Scientific Advisor (through most of his ). He makes use of his U.N.I.T. connections , however. This is the third occasion of a recurring theme where Adric 'betrays' the Doctor, or else , Nyssa or Tegan, gaining the villains' trust and then later saving them. See , , and, to a lesser degree, and Goofs The Doctor describes the as having reached its peak "8000 years ago"; the very earliest Maya settlements began 4000 years ago.The Doctor claims the population of the Earth to be 3 Billion, where as it was around 4.5 Billion by 1980, being about 3 Billion in around 1960. Few non-indigenous Australians speak an (of which around 200 exist) as fluently as Tegan demonstrated with her conversation with Kurkutji. It is almost certain that the language that Kurkutji spoke 40,000 years ago would have since evolved into a totally different language that his people would be using today. Our retro-rama continues with Peter Davison's era. It may have started with a whimper (Castrovalva) but it ended with a certifiable masterpiece (Caves of Androzani). Magnificent! An hour and more of ranting by Steven and Warren, further proving we really are total and complete nerds.
