On and off for more than a quarter of a century, Boston-based jam band Dispatch has organically grown their base into a global community that is receptive to music that truly matters. While Virginia Beach was one of the stops on their "Summer Tour 2022" along with O.A.R. and G. Love, frontman Chadwick Stokes takes time to talk about the jam band lifestyle and culture, their latest album "Break Our Fall," and a timely and incredible revision of what is their most downloaded, streamed and loved song to date, "The General." - Eric Worden

Dispatch's Chadwick Stokes and Brad Corrigan talk about their new album, 'Break Our Fall,' and much more on The JamBase Podcast Episode 87.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Dispatch over Zoom video! Celebrated roots rock band Dispatch have announced the release of their anticipated 8th studio album Break Our Fall out May 28th on Bomber Records/AWAL Recordings. Marking the band’s eighth studio release, the songs on this record speak not only to Chadwick Stokes’ and Brad Corrigan’s personal evolution, but to human nature itself, charting a course from denial and resistance to growth and acceptance through deep introspection and empathetic character studies. For Stokes and Corrigan, the only constant these past few years has been change – marriage, birth, death, departure – add to that an exceedingly tense political climate, long-overdue reckonings on racial justice/gender equality and a runaway global pandemic and you’ve got Break Our Fall, an album that enriches Dispatch’s distinguished legacy, on which the depth and breadth of the band’s stunning songwriting is displayed in full force. The band has been teasing details of the album’s launch in recent months, having released six singles including fan favorite “May We All,” which is currently climbing at AAA Radio. The music on Break Our Fall is pure Dispatch – blending infectious roots rock with hints of reggae, folk, and blues, and the production is similarly lean and energetic, leaving plenty of space for some of the group’s most pointed, political lyrics to date. The result is a timely and essential album from a band still breaking new ground two-and-a-half decades into its storied career, an ode to resilience and survival that manages to find hope and joy on even the darkest of days. The album finds Stokes and Corrigan more explicit and outspoken than ever, working with frequent collaborators Mike Sawitzke (Eels) and John Dragonetti (The Submarines) to craft a wide-ranging collection of cathartic songs. The album works its way through a litany of modern fears and frustration on the driving “May We All” and laments the direction of the country in no uncertain terms on the simmering “All This Time” (featuring soulful vocal contributions from The White Buffalo). Reality sets in with the heartache of missed opportunities and lost loved ones coming into sharp focus on songs like the bittersweet “As Old As I” and epic “Connie Hawkins,” which tips its cap to everything from Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen to The Cars and Violent Femmes. As the saying goes, there's no rest for the wicked – and, it would seem, no rest for Chadwick Stokes, either. Dividing his time between indie folk-rock band Dispatch, reggae-infused rock trio State Radio, and his solo venture, Chadwick Stokes & The Pintos – Stokes is a creative force to be reckoned with. But what is of primary importance to him is his human rights activism, which is interwoven into the very fibre of his being and his music. In 2007, State Radio began the tradition of launching service projects in each city the band visited. Service projects have become a staple of Chadwick's performances, which often center on advocating for social change. His humanitarian efforts resulted in the formation of the non-profit Calling all Crows, which seeks to empower women around the world and engages the bands' millions of fans in service projects around the world in which they volunteer in their local communities. TOPICS DISCUSSED · Chadwick Stokes' unique quarantine experience · What causes Chad's foundation, Calling all Crows, focuses on to effect change · His experiences volunteering with fans and establishing service projects in the cities where his bands perform · The importance of uplifting women and how they should hold more positions of power · Connecting the dots between Chad's fans and important causes · Virtual service projects · What inspired Stokes' activism and the power of music as a powerful agent of social change · The role of rock music and hip-hop in activism · Chad's new solo project, Chadwick Stokes & The Pintos · Future plans for Dispatch and State Radio · How knockout basketball has been getting him through lockdown · How communing with nature is vital for staying mentally and physically healthy · The Black Lives Matter movement and his experience attending the protests RESOURCES Chadwick Stokes' Website Chadwick Stokes on Facebook Dispatch on Facebook Chadwick Stokes on Instagram Calling All Crows Oxfam Why Not Both podcast

Chadwick Stokes made a name for himself as the co-founder of Dispatch in the mid-90s. Now the Sherborn native is set to headline his 12th annual Calling All Crows benefit show at Boston's House of Blues. WBZ NewsRadio's Drew Moholland reports.
We sat with Sybil Gallagher and her husband Chadwick Stokes from the band DISPATCH – aka The Biggest Band No One Has Ever Heard Of. This despite the huge following and many, many loyal fans they continued to have even after a long hiatus that began in 2004. Just before that hiatus - that is now over, Chadwick Stokes started another band out of Boston called State Radio which allowed him to continue his personal musical journey as wel l as satisfy his itch to be more vocal on social issues. To that end in 2008, Chad and Sybil founded Calling All Crows, the social activist organization that brings their commitment to hands-on service and activism on the road. They work with musicians, fans, and nonprofits to better the lives of women locally and globally. Their current focus is preventing sexual violence at shows and festivals through their #HereForTheMusic campaign, which has trained over 1700 musicians, venue/festival staff, industry professionals, and fans to-date.Chad and Sybil are about to celebrate their 12th annual benefit concert in support of Calling All Crows at the House of Blues on Saturday, December 21st, 2019. Performing with his band the Pintos, money raised at the concert will help channel the power of live music toward community change for women and girls. Tickets for the concert are $36 and up and are available at LiveNation.com.We got to sit down with both Sybil and Chadwick along with my guest co-host Kristina Latino at Woods Hill At Pier 4 in Boston where we had another amazing dinner. So we talked about their mission, how live-music venues should be a safe place for women and how we all share a responsibility in making changes to improve the lives of women and girls around the world. Oh and we also talked a little music and got a few live songs from Chadwick.
Featuring: Delaney Davidson, Courtney Barnett, The Highwomen, Gene Clark, Black Pumas, Chadwick Stokes and the Pintos, Blossoms.

For the uninitiated Chadwick or Chad Stokes is a member of neo-reggae folk band Dispatch but last week he released his third solo album with the Pintos, his backing band. Chad has always been a prolific writer, who is socially and political conscious. This album though is not only politically motivated, but many of the songs show a more tender side too. So it’s with that we got in touch with Chad for a really great conversation. You can learn about Chadwick and the Pistols upcoming tour dates and more at chadwickstokes.com. This episode features two separate interviews. The first of these is from when Rob and Seth sat down with Chadwick Stokes and Brad Corrigan of the wildly successful independent band Dispatch just before the band performed at the 2019 Candler Park Festival. Among the many topics discussed are their Boston farewell show which took place over a decade ago and reportedly drew over 150,000, as well as the strikingly raw documentary "The Last Dispatch" which thoroughly documents the build-up to this show and the show itself. The band has recently returned to regular touring and we learn some of the ways each has changed since the band went on hiatus. They also relate how difficult it was to reform the group when they learned that founding member Pete Francis Heimbold was not yet ready to resume the touring lifestyle. We also get a taste of how this fiercely independent band may have at one point come closer to joining a major label than many of its fans knows. The second interview finds Seth speaking with Galactic saxophone ace Ben Ellman. Ben talks about how his life has become more busy with his production work, and the fact that the band has taken on the honor of being the current caretakers of the legendary Tipitina's in New Orleans. Ben breaks down some of his producing work (particularly that with The Revivalists) and warns of the dangers of "Demo-itis." He also compares playing the baritone sax to playing tenor and speaks about the Walter Wolfman Washington solo release that he worked on (and shared the good news that they are apparently at work on another project). Seth and Rob also update each other on some of each of their own goings'-on, as they cut the segments for this episode after having not seen each other for two months. wTnS Sponsors: Polay + Clark 21st Century Accounting (Don't wait till April and get screwed, get Polayed) www.polayclark.com CBD Vermont: wTnS is sponsored by CBD Vermont, which partners with organic farms in Vermont to produce organically-grown hemp used in full spectrum extracts, available for sale at CBDVermont.com. Well I just went on an album buying spree (and you should too!!) because once again, the research paid off. I listened to around 1500 bands. Narrowed that down to 100 or so. And then wrote out an itinerary of about 40 which, I actually got to see. It is so much work but the reward is so worth it. SXSW is really something I live for. To all my friends and family that helped make it such an awesome event, and for understanding when I could only hang out for 10 minutes because I had the next show to run off to, this podcast is my thank you. If you're curious where I was running off to, I have included my ridiculous itinerary below. I would love for someone to figure out how many miles I put it.Wed730-800 Keeper at Swan Dive Patio800-840 Aisha Burns at Lucille900-940 Marian Hill at Blackheart930-1000 Basecamp at Lucky Lounge1000-1040 The Seshen at The Iron Bear (TruThoughts Showcase)1100-1140 Odesza (badges only) at The Parish1130-1245 Kidnap Kid at V Lounge1200-1240 Little Simz at Latitude 301200-1240 Jared and the Mill at Esther's Follies1:00-1:50 The Last Bison at Esther's FolliesThur800-850 Rubblebucket at IFC Fairgrounds840-925 Doomtree at Karma Lounge930-1010 Until the Ribbon Breaks at Bar 961000-1040 Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at Flamingo Cantina1100-1140 Zionstereo at Speakeasy1200-1230 DeJ Loaf at Tap Room at The Market1230-200 Austin Bassdrive Sessions at Dozen ClubFriday730- Photay at Central Presbyterian 800- Irene Diaz at Flamingo Cantina830- Nyla at Palm Door910- Kate Tempest at Maggie Mae's Rooftop1000- Joel Laviolette at Russian House1100- Chadwick Stokes at Lucky Lounge1130- Badbadnotgood at place that used to be Antones1230- Ghostface Killah with Badbadnotgood at place that used to be Antones115-300 Hernan Catteno at KingdomSaturday230-300 GFOTY + Spinee at Hype Hotel300-345 A. Two weeks to go until SXSW and what is this?! It's not a SXSW preview! Yeah I know. I decided instead to do a SXSW Recap podcast. Since I imagine most of you aren't going, it will probably be more interesting to hear about what I actually went to and liked rather than just what I think might be good. For those of you that want a preview though, don't fret. The SXSW Torrent did actually come so you can check that out. Or, you can check out what I've put together on Spotify (link). I have put together two sets of playlists for you. One set, sorted by genre, is the complete listing of all the artists performing at SXSW (that were available on Spotify). It's something like 1500 artists. I, of course, have listened to (or will have in the next two weeks) all of them and that is the second set of playlists, my selections. It is from this far paired down group that I will be building my schedule. So head over to Spotify. Check it out. And follow the playlists so you will get notified when I update them. For the other nerds out there, you might be interested to know that I actually wrote a Matlab script to crawl the SXSW webpage and populate a spreadsheet with artist, genre, and hyperlink to their SXSW page. I then used this spreadsheet to check off which artists I had added to Spotify playlists and which songs I had listened to. The making the playlists part did kind of take forever. Next year I'm gonna learn some JSON so I can just use the Spotify API. If I actually get that going, you can expect Spotify playlists from tons of different music festivals to start showing up. I'll keep you posted. As for this episode, well, you've read enough of my writing already. Just listen. One correction though. It's only been 13 years, not 14.Thanks for listening and don't forget to support the artists,AaronTracklist (these are links to buy the tracks)1.Pine Needle Tea by Chadwick Stokes on The Horse Comanche2.Dyin Day by Anais Mitchell on Young Man In America3.With You by Roméo Testa on The End4.I Loved You by Alice Russell on To Dust5.Open by Rhye on Woman6.Warm Water by Banks on Goddess7.Open Air ft Joyce Wrice by TOKiMONSTA on Desiderium8.Green Garden by Laura Mvula on Sing to the Moon9.Don't Wait by Mapei on Hey Hey10.And So We Dance by Kellylee Evans on I Remember When11.Betray My Heart by D'Angelo and The Vanguard on Black Messiah
