Declan Nerney has lived a charmed life, from playing in bands with some of Ireland's biggest country music stars, including Gene Stuart and Brian Coll, to meeting his idol Johnny Cash. Here, in My Country Life, Declan recalls how he dreamed of a life in showbusiness watching the big stars playing local marquee dances in his native Drumlish, Co Longford. He tells how he became a guitar player in a band while still in secondary school and recalls performing in Cork the night before his Leaving Cert maths exam. It's been formally lit up by Gary Barlow, and now, the Dermot and Dave Campervan of Christmas Cheer is on the road, spreading a little bit of joy to people around Ireland. [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/11/29124106/Telly_2911.mp3"][/audio] Our first stop was to Drumlish in Co Longford, and to twin sisters Grainne Dolan and Mairead Lennon. Grainne nominated sister Mairead for some cheer, after Mairead was an ‘absolute superstar' to Grainne's family during a most horrendous time. Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Grainne explained how Mairead ‘took over' her home life when Grainne's little girl, Cara, was in Crumlin Hospital. Mairead did everything from making dinners and lunches to homeschooling her niece Grainne during Covid. After Cara sadly passed away, Mairead had everything ready for the family as well as looking after all of the funeral arrangements. Grainne says that Mairead ‘deserves some Christmas cheer more than anybody else I know as she is an angel on earth and I don't know how we could have gotten through the past 18 months without her '. He died, aged 90, in 1972 in Connecticut is buried in Sutton in County Dublin. Anne Heraty founded CPL in 1989 and, 31 years later, in 2020, sold the company for €318m. That journey from inception to exit has involved recessions, a floatation, and the digital transformation of the workplace. However, despite the recent sale of CPL Resources to Japanese firm Outsourcing, it is not a journey that Anne is ready to end just yet. Dominic McGrath left the town of Lanesborough, Co Longford, in 1827 and went to America. Now, many generations later, the McGraths have returned to their Midlands town to meet Irish cousins at a party on the banks of the River Shannon. (First Broadcast 2000)
