To kick off this celebration of films we'd otherwise not investigate during another season, the 70's anti-establishment comedy that arguably might have spawned the buddy-cop genre FREEBIE AND THE BEAN (1974).     Made by (un)celebrated creative Richard Rush, the bewildering director of such films as the Academy Award for Best Director-nominated comedy The Stunt Man (1980) starring Peter O'Toole and the Golden Raspberry Worst Film-winning erotic thriller Color of Night (1994) starring Bruce Willis, Freebie and the Bean stars James Caan as the titular Freebie for whom the Intelligence Squad beat is a grift to gain gratis goods and, as his partner, Alan Arkin who despite not being Chicano plays the titular roles' pejorative half as a cop who is closer to by-the-book and who suspects his wife (played by Valerie Harper) of cheating on him. Alex and Joe tried to put together good rounds while Corey tried to keep his cash streak alive. Jasan tried to relive the Glory of past Jammers and go where he's never gone before while Randy played Randy golf and still got an Ace and I was just trying to survive 2 rounds at J Park. We also went over the results and our Jammer picks.Jaimen took a trip out to Jeffersonville, Vermont for the DGVTour #6 - Brewster Ridge Open Driven by Innova - DGPT Q-Series. We heard about his rounds as well as his short time caddying for Bobby Hallum, who had a great tournament. In the Nancy Guthrie investigation, the evidence collected in the first hours — the DNA from inside the home, the doorbell camera footage, the physical items left behind — is either going to solve this case or it isn't. The determining factor will be whether the people who handled that evidence from the very first moment were equipped for the responsibility. The Adam Walsh case is what happens when they aren't. And it's the most devastating evidence failure in modern American criminal history.In 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh was abducted from a Sears store in Hollywood, Florida. Two weeks later, his severed head was found in a canal over a hundred miles away. A serial killer named Ottis Toole confessed — twice. He described the abduction, the murder, and the machete he used. His description matched the autopsy findings. The Hollywood Police Department had everything it needed to close this case.Then the department lost it all. The bloody carpet from Toole's car — the most critical piece of physical evidence — was "misplaced." The blood on the machete was never lifted for testing. The car itself vanished from police custody entirely. Photographs from the original evidence collection were never even developed — they sat in the case file for over two decades. Without physical evidence, Toole recanted. He was never charged. He died in prison in 1996 serving time for other crimes.It took twenty-seven years for Hollywood PD to officially name Toole as the killer and apologize for the department's failures. John Walsh channeled his grief into America's Most Wanted, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and AMBER Alerts.
