Welcome to June, 'Nutters! There's plenty to discuss and we are fortunate to have Steve Helwagen here to wax poetic as Dave Biddle vacations, sunning himself in a discreet Caribbean locale. No beach time for the Buckeyes, however. We dive deep on a few overarching topics:* Was there a Michigan win hangover last season?* Is Ohio State's vaunted '26 schedule actually a bit overrated?* Julian Sayin - he good? Then it's quality basketball chatter - yes, basketball - taking stock of where the program sits as practice begins later today.Spent 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters!

(Five years for athletes to play five seasons.) * Who will be second on the Buckeyes in receiving yards and receptions this season? Who will be third in those categories? * Who will be second in rushing yards this year for OSU? * The NCAA denied Brendan Sorsby's request to be reinstated. What do we think will ultimately end up happening with Sorsby's eligibility? That and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish.

Also on the docket: * Who will blink first in the "CFP standoff" between Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti and SEC commish Greg Sankey? Petitti wants a 24-team field. And if he doesn't get it, he will elect to keep the CFP at 12 teams. A 16-team CFP is off the table as far as the Big Ten is concerned. It's either 24 or 12. * What do we expect from Payton Pierce this season as he takes over as the Buckeyes' starting middle linebacker? How do we feel about the LB room overall? * We get JBook's prediction of who will finish second and third on Ohio State's team in receptions and receiving yards this season. The media chatted with Ohio State head coach Ryan Day via Zoom Friday afternoon from his home state of New Hampshire and Bucknuts was curious about the status of all of the players who missed all or part of spring ball. Are they are expected to be fully cleared for the start of summer conditioning in two weeks? Day gave a resounding yes, which was obviously music to our ears. Also, Dan Rubin's draft dream came true when his Dallas Cowboys traded up to land Caleb Downs with the No. 11 pick. Some NFL teams might eventually look very foolish for passing on Downs, but Dan is extremely pleased that they did. Dan and Dave Biddle also take a look at the rest of the draft from OSU's perspective (Buckeyes led everyone with 11 picks), take a gander at next year's draft class for the Buckeyes (could JJ go No. 1 overall?) and much more. It is also "introductory press conference" season as the media interviewed offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for the first time last Tuesday, defensive tackle James Smith on Thursday and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton on Saturday. Will Hankton play a deeper rotation of wideouts for the Buckeyes compared to his predecessor, Brian Hartline? Also, there is a true freshman WR who is receiving a lot of buzz. Ohio State's Sonny Styles put on an absolute show at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. The 6-foot-5, 244-pound Styles recorded a vertical leap of 43.5 inches, which is the highest for an off-ball linebacker in 23 years. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and recorded a standing broad jump of 11'2" which was also the best among all linebackers and defensive linemen who took part Thursday. (He was the only player on Thursday to top 11 feet.) Also, many draft analysts now have Caleb Downs projected as the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, with Mel Kiper being the latest. Many others still have Arvell Reese going off the board at No. 2. Will the Jets' pick come down to one of those two Buckeyes?
