The Content Room takes What's with the Pineapple on the road to the Michigan Food & Hospitality Show floor for a lineup of hospitality heavy-hitters. First up, Julie Pinkston wearing all of the hats joins to discuss her roles as president of the Michigan Association of CVBs, secretary of the Michigan Hospitality Tourism Alliance, and her day job leading Choose Lansing – where they're busy transforming downtown with new venues, hotels with rooftop bars, and earning national recognition as the country's #2 destination for accessible travel. Next, Alicia Rainwater from the Center for Generational Kinetics drops in to drop knowledge on managing four generations in the workplace, revealing why Gen Z isn't "Millennials 2.0" and predicting that Gen Alpha will be shaped by AI the way their predecessors were by smartphones. Mission Point Resort's Liz Ware stops by sporting her new Lilac Lounge merch to share updates on their Chianti restaurant renovation, the northern Michigan ice storm recovery, and why she's tired of seeing "Galena, Illinois ads" instead of Pure Michigan spots. The episode wraps with Claude Molinari declaring this "the best day of my life" while detailing Visit Detroit's vision for the new JW Marriott and upcoming Final Four, and Beth Hussey introducing her industry training app Shifty teaching Justin and Emily to "Get Your Shift Together". The common thread? Michigan's hospitality industry is building back stronger through collaboration – or as everyone on the show seems to say, "we're stronger together."Presented by Fahey, Schultz, Burzych, Rhodes PLDC. Episode 150 In this heartfelt conversation, I sit down with Paul Fahey, a limited licensed professional counselor, retreat leader, and catechist from Michigan, USA. Paul shares insights from his work in pastoral counseling for Catholics who have been spiritually abused and his efforts to educate ministers to be more equipped in their ministry. We delve into the complex nature of spiritual and religious trauma, the importance of language in healing from trauma, and the profound teachings of the Catholic Church on human dignity. Through personal stories and shared experiences, we explore the critical theme of dignity, how trauma affects our understanding of love and self-worth, and the necessity of creating safe spaces within or away from the Church for healing and authentic connection. This episode offers a rich and thought-provoking discussion on how we can reclaim our dignity and experience God's chaste, non-controlling love in the midst of a fallen world.Visit Paul Fahey's website here.Documents quoted by Paul:Dignitatis HumanaePatris CordeFratelli TuttiRead my newsletter post Lament, Hope & Healing: Resources on Spiritual Abuse.Watch this recording on YouTube.Follow me on my Instagram account @animann for more material on the integration journey and subscribe to my monthly reflections on Begin Again.CHAPTER MARKERS00:00 Introduction to Paul Fahey01:12 Discussing Trauma and Spiritual Abuse05:53 Exploring Human Dignity in Church Teachings10:32 Understanding Spiritual Authority and Coercion35:51 Chastity and Non-Possessive Love47:33 Healing from Spiritual Coercion53:45 Struggling with Faith and Depression56:14 Journey Out of Depression58:29 Role of a Catechist and Therapist59:50 The Importance of Experiencing Non-controlling Love01:01:40 Experiencing God's Reverence01:04:00 The Concept of Theosis01:11:51 Challenges in the Church01:15:44 Accompanying Ourselves in Healing01:32:03 Forgiveness Demands Justice for the Victim01:37:22 Wrestling with the Lack of Safety in Church01:42:24 Reality is Greater than Ideas01:44:35 Final Thoughts and GratitudeREFLECTION PROMPTHow have I experienced coerciSupport the showSUBSCRIBE | FOLLOW | SUPPORTSocial Media:Follow Ann Yeong on Instagram or Facebook.Newsletter:Subscribe to Begin Again for Ann's updates and reflections.Support the Show:Monthly Support (starting at USD$3)One-time DonationLeave a Review:If this podcast has blessed you, please leave a review by clicking here.

The Content Room returns after their tip credit-induced hiatus with MRLA Chairman Jean Lanfear to discuss her journey from Dairy Queen counter to Buffalo Wild Wings executive. While debating the pronunciation of "caramel" (there is only one correct answer), Justin and Emily serve up surprisingly sweet (and a few sour) stats about the industry five years post-COVID – restaurants now command 53% of America's food dollar despite dining solo becoming the new norm. Starbucks' pivot back to human connection proves we're not ready to permanently replace baristas with apps, and Chairman Lanfear shares why "optimism is a source of power" when leading through challenging times. From ProStart competitions hitting record-breaking attendance to the upcoming Michigan Food and Hospitality Show, this episode proves the industry isn't just surviving, it's evolving. And for those keeping score, the Chairman prefers boneless wings with salt and vinegar rub – a stance potentially more controversial than who you think will dominate March Madness. On today's podcast I had the pleasure of learning some of life's lessons from a very wise man, Kevin Fahey, CEO and Founder of Peer to Peer coaching company, Essence of Leadership. Kevin came from a family farm in Tipperary, he went into the Irish clothing manufacturing industry and after a board room battle he found himself at home, unemployed. Never a man to stand still Kevin started off a successful training company and was once labelled a Positive Psychopath by one of his clients. Like so many other businesses the recession that followed the Celtic Tiger crash, had him once again wondering where the next few bob was going to come from. Kevin reinvented himself, and with all of his collective wisdom and experience he remodelled his business following the simple principle that often the wisdom that we are searching for actually sits within us. He explains why and how peer to peer coaching is so powerful, in particular for business owners and senior managers. As I have been very recently grappling with a big birthday number, we also chatted about ageism and moving into “wisdom”! I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did... Big Philanthropy and the so-called “good government” groups that it funds have a “solution” (I'm making air-quotes) to partisan gerrymandering: The “independent redistricting commission.” With funding from left-of-center groups like the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the National Redistricting Action Fund, the SEIU, the NEA, and the Quadrivium Foundation, a supposed political neophyte named Katie Fahey (whom media reports placed at Hillary Clinton's 2016 Election Night event) campaigned to establish one in Michigan during the 2018 election. Fahey won, and then 13 citizens went about drawing Michigan's congressional and state legislative districts after the 2020 Census. Joining my Michigan-based colleague Ken Braun and I to discuss her experiences inside Michigan's redistricting commission is Rebecca Szetela, who served as the Commission Chair from September 2021 through March 2022. In this episode, we explore the complexities of mental health in high-pressure environments with insights from Gary Fahey, a former member of the Australian Federal Police. We discuss the harmful conditioning that equates strength with the absence of vulnerability and its impact on mental well-being. Gary shares his story, shedding light on the challenges of working in high-stakes roles and the cultural barriers to addressing mental health. The conversation also touches on the sacrifices and pressures faced by individuals in law enforcement, military, and high-profile positions, emphasizing the importance of a supportive environment for those in demanding careers. About our guest: Gary Fahey is a mental strength and performance specialist, mental health and addiction counsellor, highly sought-after speaker and bestselling author who embodies the mantra of “Lived it, Learned it, Earned it.” His unique Brutal Honesty brand was forged through 18 years with the Australian Federal Police, leading the Australian Prime Minister's Personal Protection Team, directing the strategic and operational responsibilities of the Office of Commissioner as the AFP's Executive Officer, and managing international operations - all while (silently) battling a deep, dark and destructive battle with mental health. Combining his ‘on the job' lived experience with a Masters in Brain and Mind Sciences (specialising in peak performance and leadership), an MBA (specialising in organisational strategy and culture) and a work ethic that turned his personal struggle into his greatest success, Gary has worked with, studied under and learned from experts around the world to develop his own practical systems and evidence based strategies, helping high performing individuals, teams and companies build identity, purpose and sustained success. In this episode, Kim sits down with Maryjane Fahey, the founder of Glorious Broads, for a masterclass on becoming the "man" you think you need. At 74, with one marriage and a long-term partnership behind her, Maryjane makes no apologies: she doesn't want a man living with her—because, truth be told, the sex is better when he has to go home eventually. And to all the young twenty-somethings: forget fixing your boyfriend; it's time to fix yourself. Maryjane shares the importance of having a community of what she calls “Career b*tches”—women who inspire you and show you what's possible. She's all about learning to say no and locking in. Some parties can wait; building your life can't. In the end, Maryjane's advice is simple: have a lot of sex, have a lot of fun, and make a lot of money. Kim's biggest takeaway? Logan: I think one of the superpowers I like to think I have is the ability to just keep getting back up.Graze Robotics is making waves by tackling environmental challenges and reshaping labor dynamics in commercial landscaping. At the helm of this pioneering company is Logan Fahey Franz, who's raised nearly $25 million from everyday investors to scale the company's eco-friendly, fully autonomous electric lawnmowers. These robots are purpose-built for large-scale sites, including golf courses, solar fields, and municipal properties, where they deliver precision and efficiency at a lower cost than traditional methods.“Being a fully electric solution is important to us,” Logan explained during our conversation. “But you think about the Graze unit—the tractor holds all of the autonomy. We're not just solving mowing; we have attachments for collecting golf balls on driving ranges and upcoming attachments to clean cart paths.” His passion for environmental solutions shines as he discusses how Graze Robotics' technology responds to noise restrictions and emissions bans, increasingly common at local and state levels. The company has mastered unique capabilities like night mowing, which is ideal for solar fields since panels lie flat after sunset. Graze's approach is both forward-thinking and practical. In Logan's words, “Operating at night is a unique element... mowing at night is really the most efficient because the panels are set to flat.”As Graze Robotics continues to grow, Logan and his team aim to scale their impact with a projected 150 robotic units rolling out in early 2025. With tens of thousands of potential deployments on the horizon, Graze is poised to meet the ever-growing demand for sustainable, automated lawn care.tl;dr:* In today's episode, Logan Fahey Franz shares insights into Graze Robotics' eco-friendly, autonomous robotic mowers, which are transforming large-scale landscaping for golf courses, solar fields, and municipalities.* Logan highlights Graze Robotics' unique night-mowing capability, which increases efficiency for solar fields, where mowing during the day would interfere with panel orientation toward the sun.* Addressing labor shortages and rising environmental standards, Logan emphasizes how Graze's robots reduce costs, enable workforce reallocation to higher-value tasks and comply with local noise and emissions regulations.* Logan's journey from nonprofit social enterprises to leading a high-tech robotics company demonstrates his passion for integrating sustainability and social good with business, especially through innovative, scalable solutions.* For those interested in impact investing, Logan invites potential investors to explore Graze Robotics' offerings, which remain accessible to both traditional and crowd investors through ongoing investment opportunities. How to Develop Resilience As a SuperpowerLogan's superpower lies in his resilience—his ability to “keep getting back up” after failures and setbacks. From early challenges in starting businesses to public defeat in a political campaign, Logan has consistently shown that he can recover and forge ahead with renewed purpose and determination. One of the most impactful examples of Logan's resilience came after he ran for city council in Cleveland and lost by a significant margin. Rather than letting the public loss dissuade him, he used this setback as a springboard to create Fay Group, rallying investors—including former campaign donors—to support his vision. Through this experience, he gained invaluable lessons in facing rejection and staying committed to his goals, which he has applied to his leadership at Graze Robotics and other ventures.Tips for Developing Resilience:* Embrace Failure as a Learning Tool – Understand that setbacks are part of the process and provide valuable lessons for growth.* Seek External Advisors – Lean on mentors and experienced professionals for guidance, particularly when evaluating when to pivot or persist.* Set Personal Goals – Know what you want to accomplish so that internal motivation can fuel your resilience during tough times.* Build a Supportive Network – Surround yourself with people who can offer perspective and encouragement, helping you see past temporary defeats.By following Logan's example and advice, you can make resilience a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileLogan Fahey Franz (he/him):Chief Executive Officer, Graze RoboticsAbout Graze Robotics: Graze is a full-stack automation, robotics, and AI company focused on enabling the service industry to do more with less. In a variety of roles with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, Logan has headed effective teams and met ambitious goals through strategic innovation, always with a diligent focus on managing the bottom line.Logan started his career in 2012, managing the family office for PartsSource, the world's largest medical parts provider. He also headed the PartsSource foundation and ran the company's real-estate venture capital program, New Vista Ventures.Building on relationships developed during his time with Towards Employment (former venture), Logan assembled the board of directors for Fahey Group, a holdings company that he founded in 2016. Fahey Group's acquisitions include Landmark Lawn and Garden Supply, a northeast Ohio wholesale supplier and retail center that was in the red.At Landmark, Logan and the new management team overhauled the business by consolidating its stores, improving its supply chain, reducing costs, expanding net margins, and increasing net income. Landmark's successes also included launching an e-commerce business that generated $30+ million in increased revenue, recreating its brand for the direct-to-consumer and direct-to-business markets, and selling its locations, providing a significant return to shareholders. The next venture was Robin Autopilot, a robotic lawn care company based in Dallas-Fort Worth. Fahey Group acquired Robin in 2019 as a distressed asset backed by MTD Holdings (now Stanley Black and Decker). As Robin's new CEO, Logan hired a new management team and repositioned the company as a RaaS firm with a Software-as-a-Service component (including multi-manufacturer fleet management solutions). Robin later became a Husqvarna Venture.Logan lives in Dallas with his husband, Luke, who is a land-use attorney with Leeward and Associates, an alternative energy company.
