On location at the 2026 American South Site Selection Summit in Arlington, Texas, host Ray Methvin of Insyteful sits down for a series of one-on-one interviews evaluating rural development strategies and community-level economic alignment. The opening interview features Susan Sankey, Executive Director of the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation, who outlines the unique landscape of industrial recruitment in West Texas. Sankey shares tactical insights on how smaller municipalities can leverage local assets and coordinate land preparation to remain highly competitive for emerging industrial projects. The focus then shifts to the regional workforce and diversification strategies being deployed across other sectors of the South. Amy Fesser, Executive Director of Borger Inc., details how specialized community marketing and targeting industrial expansions can stimulate growth in competitive manufacturing corridors. Finally, Ryan Egly, President and CEO of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, breaks down the fundamentals of rural economic stability and regional infrastructure partnerships. Together, these conversations demonstrate the targeted, collaborative approaches used throughout the Southern Economic Development Council network to secure new capital investments. The SEDC Podcast is sponsored by Insyteful.
Used to be, the SEC bragged about its national championships. Rightfully so. During one 17-year span, the SEC won 13 titles. Now, the Big Ten has won three straight national titles, and no SEC team has beaten a Big Ten opponent in a playoff game since 2022. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey denies a problem exists or that the Big Ten has pulled ahead. He says the SEC remains the best conference "by far," and he attributes the Big Ten's success to the ball bouncing "a couple of times the wrong way." Sankey also said if the SEC was winning, nobody would ask him about losing. Well, no kidding. Has Sankey lost the plot? On today's episode, Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams discuss Sankey's insistence that the SEC remains the nation's best conference "by far," even as the Big Ten racks up national titles and asserts dominance of the 12-team playoff. The hosts disagree with Sankey's assessment of the situation, but they also say the SEC's commissioner isn't singularly responsible for fixing the problem. The SEC's coaches need to step up and deliver, too. Speaking of coaches, what's up with Texas' Steve Sarkisian this offseason? He's slinging mud at Mississippi and riling up Texas Tech. Is this evidence of Sark feeling the pressure at Texas?
FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt responds to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey saying that the SEC is “by far” the best conference in college football despite the Big Ten winning the last 3 National Championships with 3 different teams. He also weighs in on Texas Tech challenging Texas to a game in Week 1 after Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian took a shot at their schedule. Klatt discusses the SEC's lack of a unified stance on a new CFP format at their Spring Meetings and what it means for the future. He also reacts to Kirby Smart's comments backing the idea of the SEC potentially breaking away from the rest of college football if things don't change before saluting the conference for putting an end to cupcake week in November. 0:00-2:00 Takeaways from SEC spring meetings2:01-10:01 Greg Sankey says SEC is the strongest conference by far10:02-14:12 Where do things stand with the CFP format after the SEC spring meetings?14:13-20:36 Kirby Smart says he's not afraid of SEC breaking away from rest of CFB20:37-23:43 Texas Tech offers to play Texas in week 123:44-25:21 NCAA denies reinstatement for QB Brendan Sorsby in gambling case25:22-27:35 SEC eliminates cupcake week in November27:36-29:20 Takeaways from SEC spring meetings Use my code for 10% off your next SeatGeek order*: https://seatgeek.onelink.me/RrnK/KLATT10 Sponsored by SeatGeek. *Restrictions apply. Coach welcomes NFL game analyst Charles Davis to unpack the legal and collegiate fallout surrounding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby and his recent gambling allegations. The duo juxtaposes the modern era of college sports—where universities and networks profit directly from gambling partnerships—against the strict bans historically placed on student-athletes. They map out Sorsby's expected legal defense strategy, which could heavily leverage the NCAA's own gambling revenue ties and a focus on mental health, while tackling the immense challenges this poses for administrators, potential court-ordered injunctions, and the way high-value NIL contracts are disrupting mid-contract transfers. The gridiron breakdown continues as college football writer Dennis Dodd joins the show to evaluate the bounce-back potential of former national championship programs. Coach and Dodd dive deep into the current trajectories of Lincoln Riley’s USC, Mike Norvell’s Florida State, and Dabo Swinney’s Clemson, weighing each program's unique recruiting triumphs and critical turn-around pressures. The conversation shifts into a rapid-fire analysis of the latest high-profile coaching carousel moves, assessing Matt Campbell’s transition to Penn State, James Franklin’s arrival at Virginia Tech, and Kyle Whittingham taking the reins at Michigan, alongside a snapshot of recent developments reshaping the Big 12. Dennis Dodd and Tony Barnhart team up with Coach on Football Saturday, opening with a reflection on Memorial Day weekend before shifting focus to the highly consequential SEC spring meetings in Destin. The panel breaks down whether these meetings will rival the historic 1991 expansion in long-term impact, especially if they chart a course toward a 24-team playoff system. Highlighting key insights on influential figures like Georgia President Jerry Morehead and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, they examine Morehead's comments on SEC self-governance and potential breakaway from the NCAA. The episode closes with a breakdown of Sankey's methodical data-driven approach to a nine-game conference schedule, a look at Coach Ed Orgeron’s rumored return to the LSU sidelines, and breaking news regarding an active NCAA tampering investigation into Ole Miss stemming from a complaint by Clemson's Dabo Swinney against Pete Golding.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Are we not talking enough about the impact first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is going to have at Ohio State this year? That is the main topic of conversation on today's show with Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle. Also on the docket: * Who will blink first in the "CFP standoff" between Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti and SEC commish Greg Sankey? Petitti wants a 24-team field. And if he doesn't get it, he will elect to keep the CFP at 12 teams. A 16-team CFP is off the table as far as the Big Ten is concerned. It's either 24 or 12. * What do we expect from Payton Pierce this season as he takes over as the Buckeyes' starting middle linebacker? How do we feel about the LB room overall? * We get JBook's prediction of who will finish second and third on Ohio State's team in receptions and receiving yards this season. All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish.
