As we near the end of summer, the Storytelling Breakdown team decided it was time for Movie Share II: Electric Boogaloo. The rotation from last time has been reversed. Stephen has Ben, exploring more works of Hayao Miyazaki with Howl's Moving Castle. Ben has Larissa, and the two opened the episode with a trip back to the 1970's with Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. Larissa has Caleb, and she put Derek DelGaudio's In & Of Itself on his radar. Caleb has Stephen, who put on his headphones and sat down for Live, Die, Rep… wait, Edge of Tomorrow. In The Lord of the Rings: The Scenes of Power our team begins our journey into The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. From Glamdring to an impassable labyrinth of razor-sharp rocks, the conversation starts around the 01:24:03 mark. Subscribe to Storytelling Breakdown wherever you get your podcasts. We are wired to move toward things that make us feel good and away from things that make us feel uncomfortable. It's that narrative in our mind that limits us. However, when you challenge yourself and put in the effort, it could be transformational. On today's podcast we welcome back Dr. Susan Hannan to discuss the benefits of doing hard things. If you are in a crisis or think you have an emergency, call your doctor or 911. It's Emmy Week on Really Famous! Every day you'll get a talk with one of this year's Emmy nominees. (The Emmys air Monday.) In honor of Steve Zahn's nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for HBO's The White Lotus (my favorite!), here's my 2nd talk with Steve, which we taped last year, just days before he flew back to Hawaii to reshoot a pivotal scene for The White Lotus. What do you think of when you think of actor Steve Zahn? That Thing You Do ... Sahara ... Dallas Buyers Club ... Friends ... Saving Silverman? After this 100% real talk, you'll think of something else entirely. It's not an interview at all. It's two people catching up (a couple of years after we taped our first podcast together, which you can also listen to). Episode Notes It's a sequel wherein there are two terminators but no judgment day – this week we watched James Cameron's 1991 favorite Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Set pieces and voiceovers and water weenies galore this week as we discuss the second in the Terminator series which finds a humble Schwarzenegger going head to head with Robert Patrick and coming up somewhat short. It's an action extravaganza! Chris Tuff was one of the first advertisers to work directly with Mark Zuckerberg in 2006 and filmed one of the first “viral” videos, which landed him on the front page of The Wall Street Journal. Tuff's natural ability to connect with his nearly 80% millennial and Gen Z workforce led him to publish the national bestselling The Millennial Whisperer in 2019. A global movement soon followed as the Atlanta resident shared lessons on empathy and genuine connection at work on some of the largest stages in the world including such Fortune 100 companies as Nike. In the eighth and final episode of the first season of Medium of the Month, we are joined by the co-host with the most, Darien "D-Rye" Equipado, who was the only natural pick for a wastecap episode. The two mediums covered are film and television, discussing "Derek DelGaudio's In & of Itself" and "The Vow" respectively. In the first half of the episode, we cover both pieces of content in a spoiler-free discussion; then we get into spoilers for "The Vow" at 31:15 and for "Derek DelGaudio's In & of Itself" at 49:47. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Spotted! The pilot episode for Andy Greene's new series, The Naked Man Podcast. Andy begins his next conversational journey with father, husband, writer and friend, Kyle Dickinson (@kmdickinson). We open the door to explore the confusing and overwhelming issues surrounding Identity. We begin where our friendship began, in Munich, Germany on a lonely Christmas, and from there, travel across the clarifying and terrifying landscapes wrought by the various identities we share and don't share. Kyle and I investigate the BS "Nice Guy" mythos we inhabited in our adolescence, our traumatic origins as "Drawers," and why we can't look away from the Big Bad Wolf. We introduce the Wolf/Dog concept with a hat tip to Derek DelGaudio's In & Of Itself (streaming on Hulu). We read poems about parenthood, struggle with our masculinity, with being the nerd or the chubby kid on the baseball team. We try to be better together. How do we fight more? And how will we strike a balance between simplicity and complexity? [24:42] This week, special guest Jenny Cavaioli joins Joey and Jess to talk about the positive outcomes of conflict, disagreeable givers, psychological safety, the powers of subtraction, Marie Kondo, and allergies. THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. (Well, they do a little bit, but please please please don't tell Tyler). references Stephan Jenkins is still so alive (but hopefully not still so alone). Chuck wonders about the term "Montezuma's Revenge" and its origins, which leads to a discussion about legacy - is it better to be known for something gross or forgotten? Chuck pushes me on my fictional legacy. We read some listener emails, one of which forces us to dive into our knowledge of pop-punk songs and which ones we love. We talk about the recent weather event in Texas and how they affected our Lone Star Pals. Chuck opens up about the dynamic relationship between receiving public praise and dealing with private failures and that struggle. We then discuss the movie "Thunder Road," and how we feel about Jim Cummings. I tell Chuck all about the listener-recommended show Joe Pera Talks With You and how much I enjoyed it. I also mention Derek Delgaudio's In and Of Itself, but can't talk too much about it without spoiling things for Chuck. We then discuss the trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie and our experiences with the Mortal Kombat franchise. From there, it's video game news - Tony Hawk coming to the Switch, a new documentary series about Nintendo - a quick step away to discuss Disney Plus' Parental Controls. We then discuss the upcoming documentary "Murder Among The Mormons" before closing with a discussion about a TV show based on the Playstation series of "Twisted Metal" games. - Brad MP3 Download

Directing Derek DelGaudio's In & Of Itself brought Oz back to his creative anarchist roots. It's hard to put Frank Oz and Derek Delgaudio's In & Of Itself into words. That's how they wanted it. It's something that must be seen to be... not believed? We keep the interview spoiler-free, diving into what inspired this anarchy, what moved Oz and DelGaudio to build something new, and break things in the process. After I switched off my recorder and took in all Oz and DelGaudio shared, I walked into the other room to find my children watching... "The Muppets" (which Oz helped create and found). It served as a reminder that Frank Oz's drive to create things with a purpose and risk failure by being different, results in a legacy and an impact that echoes for generations. We are motivated to create things for a variety of reasons. Frank Oz and Derek DelGaudio were motivated by some of the best reasons. Oz said working with DelGaudio reminded him of the early early days with Jim Henson when they were just trying things. Breaking things. Discovering things. More than success, the highlight is always concocting something new. There is no guarantee that you can find the type of success Oz and DelGaudio have. But there is a guarantee that you can find the same joy if you pursue things the way they did. Let their anarchy guide us all to taking chances, evading definitions, and breaking molds.
