The many highs of Tig Notaro's comedy career (Emmy and Grammy nominations, creating TV shows, and hosting the “Don't Ask Tig” podcast) may seem predestined. Yet these are all things that seem beyond the realm of possibility for young Tig. In the early 2000s she's told that because she's a woman, and she's gay, and she's low-key and deadpan, she'll never make it. Today, she shares the story of how she learns to keep going, no matter how impossible the road may seem, and to remember that there's no one way to get somewhere.Listen to Michael Imperioli's Meditative Story, "Michael Imperioli: having the courage to create": https://listen.meditativestory.com/MichaelImperioliPIOFind Tig's tour dates: tignotaro.comListen to Tig's podcast, Don't Ask Tig: dontasktig.org andListen to Tig's podcast True Story: headgum.com/tig-and-cheryl-true-storyFollow Tig on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TigNotaroInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealfluffnotaro/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tignotarocomedy/If this story resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you. Hi. Aloha. Shalom. Howdy. I am your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon, and this is Epi266 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Everybody in the right spot? Cool. Last week was Episode 265, “Summertime and the Clippin' is Easy”, hosted by my partner in soundcasting Tyson Saner. If you missed it then you missed him featuring clips from the Salty Language soundcast, A Hot Dog is a Sandwich, and Don't Ask Tig. I'm calling this week's installment “Soundcastin' with a Capital B”, and it's what we call a “hybridcast”: part clips, part chat, plus a special visit from our esteemed booth announcer Bill Heywatt, who you heard in the opening introduction. Back before all of this pandemic nonsense started, before we had to lockdown, he and I would occasionally belly up to the Studio P wet bar for a segment called “Boozin' With Bill.” It's been quite a while since Bill has mixed up one of his bizarre libations, plucked from the watering holes of his checkered radio history but I am happy to announce that we have a brand new segment! And in a very weak attempt to turn that into a theme this time around, the four soundcast segments I have for you all have titles that begin with “B”: Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast, The Bitch Bible, Breaking Bread with Tom Papa, and Brittlestar's Really Great Podcast. And this episode is sponsored by Breakaway Trousers from Henderson's Pants. See? Another B! Finally – and yes, there is more in this super-sized episode – we're going to chat with friend-of-Succotash and longtime soundcaster Chris Mancini, whose name does NOT start with a “B”, to have him talk about his latest Kickstarter campaign that is coming down to the wire. It's for Volume 2 of his graphic novel, Rise of the Kung Fu Masters. (You can track down that, plus all three of his soundcasts – What Are You Watching?, The Quiet Journeys of Professor Atwood, and Tales from the Abyss – through his White Cat Entertainment website. CLIPS Bill Burr's Monday Morning PodcastFor the first clip this show, we're going to re-visit Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast. We've featured Bill's show before, I've reviewed for This Week in Comedy Podcasts, and with good reason: It's always entertaining. He's got the kind of talent it takes to fill an hour of podcast time – by himself – and keep it fresh and funny. Who else is doing that today? Greg Proops, Alonzo Bodden, and Greg Fitzsimmons come to mind, but there are not a whole lot of other comedy soundcasters who can do it without sidekicks, sketches, interviews or other elements to carry them through. This clip is actually from his show last Thursday, August 12th, and he rambles around the topics of Tik Tok and Boston comics. Brittlestar's Really Great PodcastNext up is a clip from a Canadian-based soundcast: Brittlestar's Really Great Podcast. Brittlestar is the well-known alias of Stewart Reynolds, from Ontario, and he has almost 20 million followers on YouTube. I love his humor – it's very dry, very deadpan, and smart. From the “Canada Last Week” episode from July 30th I've clipped his report on the rental car situation on Cape Breton, a small island community in Canada. Helping him out with the report is Unrelated Expert and one of the stars of TVs Will & Grace, Eric McCormack. The Bitch BibleOur next clip comes from a soundcast that started out as a blog back in 2012. The Bitch Bible was created by its host, Jackie Schimmel. The show description touts it as being “A podcast that dares to say what many are thinking, but only a bitch would say. Expect unfiltered and unapologetic discussions about sex, millennial struggles, pop culture, social faux-pas and hopefully, an insightful takeaway. Nothing is off limits.” In this clip, which is from her recent episode (uabashedly entitled “The Worst Episode ever”, Jackie talks ranges from talking about Christmas trees to froyo. Breaking Bread with Tom PapaThere's a very funny comedian named Tom Papa. He's been performing for years – mostly on the East Coast – and he's hosted a few TV shows. His podcast, Breaking Bread with Tom Papa, is kind of like hanging out with Tom and his guests after a show. He literally “breaks bread”, as in having a meal with his friends and we get to join them. He recently invited the Sklar Brothers, Randy and Jason, to sit down and chew the figurative and literal fat. In our clip, the guys are talking about their kids turning into teens. A couple of episodes ago we announced the rebranding of our call-in line due to the fact no one seemed to be interested in calling into it. So now you can reach us at the Succotash and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline in order to either talk about comedy soundcasts or give listeners a status update on one of America's runaway truck ramps. The number is 1 (818) 921-7212. Thanks for jumping into the Succotash for this extra-long episode. Grab us next week for Epi267 with co-host Tyson Saner. And try to wisely use whatever summer days you might have off. Remember to mask, vax, and be smart around people. And if anyone asks if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Episode 256 of Succotash. For those of you who are new here, thank you for choosing us to listen to. Last week in episode 264 show creator and every-other-episode host of Succotash Marc Hershon sat down with his longtime friend and former roommate Mark Pitta for a chats episode called "Visitin' Virtually with Mark Pitta". You can find that episode in the show archive at www.succotashshow.com and thru various soundcast listening services such as Apple or Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Audible, and Soundcloud just to name a few. What is your preferred listening platform? I'll take my answer off-air. This week I have a trio of clips for you from the soundcasts Salty Language, A Hot Dog is a Sandwich, and Don't Ask Tig…and of course this episode contains a classic advertisement from our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants for their celebrated Down Under Pants. CLIPS Salty Language Just like Succotash, our friends Bryan Stewart and Tony High over at the Salty Language soundcast are into their 10th year of soundcasting! They rant on a variety of topics, ranging from comic books to movies. Recently, in their episdoe from August 4th, the boys Bryan and Tony discussed life, hanging out, bad audio, 10 years of podcasting, Minecraft, non-alcoholic beers, Y: The Last Man series, The Bad Batch, history of wrestling site, Fleets, a SUATMM Galactus figure, their QoftheW, and more! A Hot Dog Is a SandwichMythical Chefs Josh Scherer and Nicole Hendizadeh discuss, debate, and dissect the web's most hilariously controversial culinary quandaries. And in their episode from May 19th, 2021, "Can You Tell The Difference Between Coke and Pepsi?", Josh and Nicole did a blind taste test to find out if they could really tell the difference between the two sodas…or pops, depending where in the US you live. Don't Ask Tig Need advice? Comedian Tig Notaro doesn't have all the answers, but that won't stop her from fielding your questions on life's many challenges. Past Succotash guest Mike Birbiglia joined her recently in the episode from June 21st of this year to dive into the topics of doing a DIY exorcism or what to do if someone from your past wrote an unflattering song about you. That's all I have for you this week. I hope you find some of it entertaining, perhaps informative, various degrees of interesting. There's a LOT of content out there and choosing what to listen to can be challenging at times. Finding time to listen to anything can also be challenging so I am especially grateful that you have chosen to spend this bit of time with me. BTW, I have a channel on YouTube under my name, "Tyson Saner" and a "show" of sorts that features video gaming content from various genres throughout the years. Lately, I've been playing a lot of Minecraft. I've got some videos that are designed to lull you to sleep in a series called "Minecraft A.S.M.R." and, so far, they seem to be doing okay. Also on my channel I've been recording my screen during a soundcast called "Nooner Podcast" that I have been interacting with for 10 years…and doing a live tumblr every Tuesday night at 7:30 for a few years now. Why do we do any of this? I guess it's to have some additional sort of record of these moments in time for future generations...provided that the world is still here for them to look back on with any sort of fondness. Be sure to check out Epi266 next week when Marc will return with who knows what for you to listen to? In the meantime, thank you for listening, be decent to each other, and if anyone asks if you have heard anything good lately won't you please pass the Succotash? - Tyson Saner

Don't know how to deal with romantic feelings for a coworker that's already in a relationship? Still, feeling guilty from that illegal left turn you made decades ago that potentially caused a multi-vehicle pileup? Well, actor and television host LeVar Burton drops by Don't Ask Tig to help you out. LeVar, who played Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” gives Tig some well-needed advice, commander to commander, about the joys and overwhelm that comes with being a part of the iconic franchise.  This episode is sponsored by Betterhelp Online Counseling (betterhelp.com/Tig), Ned (ned.com/tig), and Brooklinen (brooklinen.com and use promo code: Tig).
