You know how every day someone asks "how are you?" And even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say "fine," so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that. Hosted by author and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talkin…
big talk, terrible things, cry and laugh, raw and beautiful, nora mcinerny, feely, grieve, that's the point, i'm so sorry, eva's, middle place, loss and grief, lost my husband, people without, makes me cry every, helps me realize, unbroken.
Listeners of Terrible, Thanks For Asking that love the show mention: thanks for asking, norah, nora's,The Terrible, Thanks For Asking podcast is an incredibly powerful and thought-provoking show hosted by Nora McInerny. Her soothing voice and ability to discuss even the toughest topics in a comforting manner make this podcast truly special. Whether she's delving into the depths of grief, talking about difficult life experiences, or offering insightful advice, Nora always leaves me feeling both moved and inspired. Her wit adds a lighthearted touch to the podcast, making me giggle with her clever comments. This is the first podcast I've ever purchased, and it was a no-brainer decision because it's so worth it. The special subscriber episodes are especially fantastic.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is how Nora dives into subjects that are rarely talked about but affect so many people. She fearlessly explores topics like divorce, miscarriages, menopause, and grief with sincerity and understanding. I greatly appreciate these episodes as they shed light on experiences that are often kept hidden in society. The stories shared on this show create a sense of community and provide solace for those going through similar situations.
However, one of the minor downsides of The Terrible, Thanks For Asking podcast is that it may not appeal to everyone due to its heavy subject matter. Some listeners may prefer podcasts that focus on lighter topics or provide more entertainment value. Additionally, while Nora's wit adds a delightful element to the show overall, some listeners might find her humor distracting if they prefer a more serious tone when discussing sensitive subjects.
In conclusion, The Terrible, Thanks For Asking podcast is an absolute gem that tackles difficult topics with grace and compassion. Nora McInerny's ability to make you think while also providing comfort during tough times is truly remarkable. This podcast has become my therapy during moments of grief and has helped me feel understood in various aspects of life. I highly recommend this show to anyone looking for raw honesty and heartfelt storytelling.

Years ago, when Nora was in the worst phase of her life (dead husband, dead dad, lost pregnancy) she heard a lot of people describe her as resilient. Those people meant it as a compliment, but to Nora it didn't feel that way. She was tired, grieving, and lost so much in her life- the “resiliency” people saw was often just…the privilege she had to survive it. So when Nora got the new book, The Resiliency Myth by Soraya Chemaly, she devoured it. In this episode, Nora and Soraya talk about different ways to think about resiliency and how celebrating it can be a little toxic. We are still on hiatus! There are some stories so plainly horrifying, some crimes so gut wrenching, that it can be hard to imagine the perpetrator as anything other than a villain. A drunk driving accident that killed 6 people does not sound like the beginning of a redemption story. Like everyone else in 2020, Grant Khanbalinov downloaded Tik Tok. He wasn't trying to learn dances or find a community- he wanted to learn the platform for his marketing job. To practice using the app, he made videos with his wife and kids. Then a video of his three-year-old daughter went viral, and Grant's account blew up. He gained millions of followers and eventually made hundreds of thousands of dollars from his videos. It all felt like a dream, until…one night he realized there is a dark side to sharing his kids online. You can follow Grant on Tik Tok @heyelliamfamily. This week's bonus episode on TTFA Premium is an interview with Sarah Adams (@mom.uncharted), an advocate for children's privacy online, and Chris McCarty, a 19-year-old who is working to make policy changes to protect the children of influencers. Jamie Hahn was 29 years old when she was murdered by Jonathan Broyhill — the guy who had been the best man in her wedding to her husband, Nation. It tells them who's in and sometimes (depending on the faith, or depending on the microcosm of the faith they're raised in) who's out.
