Send us a textOn the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are frying up something tasty for y'all. We watched the 1991 film from Jon Avnet, Fried Green Tomatoes. To kick off our entire month full of Kathy Bates love, we present to you one of the craziest, loveliest, movingest films we've ever had the pleasure of talking about on this podcast. What do you get when you throw in a dash of death and dismemberment, a heap of the freaking Klan, and a whole soupçon of literal cannibalism? You get this incredible film, of course!Who would have ever guessed those points would also describe a movie about intergenerational storytelling and illicit lesbian feelings? We sure as heck didn't.

¡Aprende mucho y disfruta! This week, we are joined by friend of the pod - Kendall Walton, broadcast journalist and LGBT+ activist - and together we cover a listener request, Fried Green Tomatoes from 1991! We talk about the iffy accent work (including one of our own) and Kendall schools us on the meaning of 'Church Biscuits' among heavier topics such as gender expression and identity and a possible trans reading on the story. We might go on an extended tangent about Weeds. We also all wish Kathy Bates was our best friend (she has full sized candy bars in her purse!) and don't worry, we do get into the people eating of it all along with THAT ending. Danielle Ruhf is a mom to two wonderful adults and two mischievous dogs, and is a wife of 25 years to her incredibly supportive husband. After a long stint in corporate America, Dani became a serial entrepreneur and found her true passion in the nonprofit sector, founding Child Hunger Outreach Partners in 2019. CHOP humbly began serving 45 middle school students in Towanda, PA after the founder's daughter shared on her first day of middle school that if students did not have lunch money, they simply didn't eat. She begged her mother to do something. After hearing the shocking news, Dani knew in addition to a nutritious meal, these children also needed an advocate. So, she went to work. Since 2019, CHOP has grown to serve tens of thousands of students weekly in Maryland and Pennsylvania. As we move closer to meeting our mission of ending childhood hunger, we continue to build partnerships across the country and continue to launch program branches in each state.

SUBSCRIBE HERE: https://www.youtube.com/thepaulgarciashow Anne Barnes talks about her unbelievable journey through 3 miscarriages that lead to her now happy, healthy, and nearly finished pregnancy. The pain of a miscarriage is a pain that Anne Barnes of Towanda, IL (formerly Anne Garcia of Fairbury, IL) knows all too well. She has experienced the heartbreak of losing a baby during pregnancy an astounding three times in her still marriage of just under three years. By the grace of God, however, Anne is now, for the first time in her life, healthily pregnant and entering the 3rd trimester (over 6 months)! In this conversation, Anne bravely walks us through her journey, the medical reasons for her failed pregnancies, the feelings and emotions she felt after her first, second, and third failed pregnancies, her battles with her faith, and her husband's role throughout the process, and much more. I deeply admire Anne's bravery in coming onto my show to discuss her very personal experience, and I also love her very much and am proud to call her my sister. Anne's story is one of incredible sadness and even more incredible hope, faith, and even a miracle! She and her husband, Patrick, visited The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in New Franken, Wisconsin after a long bout of miscarrying and failing to get pregnant. The two are devout Catholics and credit this pregnancy to God firstly, and also to the Blessed Virgin Mary's prayers for them. Their story is sure to tug on your heartstrings and lift your spirits. Ways to Stay Encouraged While Serving in Ministry Always Remember the Why; GOD has called us to this work. We do what we do for the glory of GOD and not for the praise of man. Get Connected to Community; Surround yourself with those who will love, affirm and support you and remind you that you're doing a GREAT JOB! Remember, serving in ministry is costly. Be intentional about surrounding yourself with family, trusted friends, and advisers who will give you the extra push you need. Focus on what's working; Spend time building, developing, and improving what is working and remind those serving with you that the team is about great work. Focusing on what's not working can drain you of your time and energy and can be an entryway for discouragement to creep in. Delegate; Everything does NOT require your attention; learn to empower others and allow them to flex their leadership muscles. We should never make serving in ministry about us and about what others can do for us but about what we can do for GOD together. Establish boundaries; NO is a complete sentence and requires no explanation. Burnout comes as a result of poor boundaries and trying to shoulder the responsibility of doing all the things on your own. Get Help; Train, develop, and leverage volunteers and other team members to help you. Be ok with things not being handled the way you would do it; instead, be encouraged there are others willing and able to assist you. Towanda has put together a list of resources to help grow in your leadership capacity. Take a look at the full list of resources here to add to your personal library or to study together with your ministry teams. https://kingdomexcellenceconsulting.my.canva.site/ Disclaimer: We are an Amazon affiliate and receive a small commission off items purchased.
