As we go on the quest for balance in life, we will experience many things. Achieving a balanced life isn't a straight path. As we look for stability, we come to understand that balance doesn't equate to everything being in perfect coordination. Things shift and every moment we experience is different, but the balance can be found as we continue to deal with stuff in our own ways. In this podcast episode, Daniele Bolleli shares with us the habits he practices and his thoughts about a balanced life. This week we are hosting Daniele Bolelli. Originally from Milan, Italy, Daniele has been calling California home for almost 30 years. A man who strives to be good at many things so that he’s never bored, Daniele also hosts two widely popular podcasts, including History on Fire - one of the most successful history podcasts on Earth. In our discussion, Daniele shares his thoughts on working to find your path and being good at something, on committing to being an independent thinker and on pursuing knowledge while not trapping yourself within it. Daniele Bolelli is the host of the History on Fire podcast, where he has captured audiences with episodes that range from Teddy Roosevelt to Caravaggio to Crazy Horse. He has written many books on topics from religion to martial arts. His books include: On the Warrior's Path and Not Afraid. And don't miss his Drunken Taoist Podcast for some awesome interviews. One of the things that has always fascinated me about Daniele is the seeming contradictions in his life. He is a college professor and serious academic, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He is both irreverent and disciplined and his content that is entertaining and informative. Daniele was generous enough to read my book back in the day and give me a blurb. For which I am eternally grateful. In this episode, Daniele talks about growing up in Italy and what he learned from his literary parents. And how he moved to the United States to study Native American history at UCLA. And how he trained in martial arts such as karate, jiu jitsu, and boxing. And what he's learned from the godfather of history podcasting, Dan Carlin. It was such a good conversation and I hope you enjoy it! We made it to our tenth episode (relatively) unscathed! This week as always we review last week's submissions, before bringing you delicious piping hot new podcasts for your approval. Because of St Patrick's Day we're all about drinking this week, with Liz recommending And That's Why We Drink, Pat offering up The Drunken Taoist Podcast and Zane rounding it off with Dumb People Town.Liz Recommends - And That's Why We Drinkhttps://www.andthatswhywedrink.com/Liz finds a way to relate drinking back to a murder (and supernatural) podcast, because OF COURSE SHE DOES. And That's Why We Drink is a paranormal and true crime podcast hosted by Christine Schiefer, Em Schulz, boxed wine (aka goon) and milkshakes. Get ready for bantery and eerie ghost tales and super terrifying true crime.Featuring the catchphrase: "The world's a scary place. And that's why we drink!"For Zane: Episode 78For Pat: Episode 45For both: Episode 9 because of their tragic cultural misunderstandings on how Aussies play goon of fortune.https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/and-thats-why-we-drink/id1204570053?mt=2Pat Recommends - The Drunken Taoist PodcastThis isn't really about drinking but hey, it's got drunk in the title. This bi-monthly podcast varies in format. Sometimes it's just host and all around cool guy Daniele Bolelli ranting and raving. Other times his co host Rich Evirs will help roll things along. They'll also throw in a guest every other episode. They touch all areas but tend to steer a lot towards politics, philosophy, sex, history and all that good jazz. For Zane & Liz: Whatever you like. But I like episodes 129, 132, 137, 145https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/the-drunken-taoist-podcast/id567232410?mt=2nkZane Recommends - Dumb People Townhttps://starburns.audio/podcasts/dumb-people-town/Now, while not explicitly about drinking, the news stories featured on Dumb People Town almost always include people who have consumed too much! It’s as much an exploration as it is a celebration of dumb people doing dumb things (often in Florida). With comedians Daniel Van Kirk, Randy Sklar, and Jason Sklar (who are twins). They have a very active social media presence and most of their stories are sourced from their fan base. For Liz & Pat: Jump in randomly!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/dumb-people-town/id1187357113?mt=2&at=1001lpDqSubscribe to us on ITUNES, STITCHER, SPOTIFY, RADIOPUBLIC or your podcatcher of choice.Find us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM.

Daniele Bolelli is a writer, martial artist, university professor, and podcaster. He was born in Italy and currently lives in Los Angeles. He's made multiple appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience. Visit www.DanieleBolelli.com for more! After graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in Anthropology, and earning graduate degrees at UCLA (in American Indian Studies) and CSULB (History), Bolelli began teaching at several colleges in Southern California. Unlike most scholars who tend to specialize in one particular field of knowledge, Bolelli adopts a “renaissance” man-approach to teaching that has led him to lecture on a wide range of subjects including American Indian history and philosophy, history of the United States, world religions, history of ancient Rome, history and philosophy of martial arts, the ethnic experience in the United States, world history, plus several courses on the relationship between cinema and history. Perhaps even more peculiar than his unusually extensive repertoire is Bolelli’s lecturing style. Much like his writing, in fact, his lecturing style combines discussions of complex, deep subjects with much humor and “street lingo.” For this reason, he has been defined as “half stand up comedian and half Zen master.” This odd mix has made him extremely popular among students. Martial Arts: Bolelli has trained in several styles of martial arts including kung fu san soo, taijiquan, baguazhang, xingyiquan, submission wrestling, Brazilian jiujitsu, boxing, and judo. He holds a fifth degree black belt in kung fu san soo–a style that he has taught for several years at UCLA’s John Wooden Center. Bolelli also coached and fought professionally in mixed martial arts (MMA). Media and Podcasting: Bolelli was featured in I Am Bruce Lee which broke Spike TV’s rating record for documentaries. He has appeared as a guest on popular podcasts such as Duncan Trussell’s, Adam Carolla’s and Joe Rogan’s. In October 2012, Bolelli began his own podcast named The Drunken Taoist Podcast.
