Hello everyone and welcome to Pocket Thoughts! On today’s episode we are talking about managing risk. We start off with what we think the biggest risks we see when it comes to jumping into entrepreneurship and then ask ourselves if those risks we brought up are the reasons we don’t quit our jobs now and make the jump. We then get into a shameless plug of our company, Educating Entrepreneurs, and how the design sprint really helps out when it comes to managing risk of your future company. After that we touch a little on a previous podcast about getting into entrepreneurship with a partner and not doing it alone. And finally we let you guys know what things you need to do this week to manage risk. Please let us know if our advice worked for you or if you have any other suggestions we can share and try ourselves. Thank you as always for listening and enjoy your week! Subscribe! Even if it was not your fault, you are the owner and you will need to get in front of the issue 44:11 - It’s not an IF you fail, it’s a WHEN you fail 56:40 - Wrap Up! If you're not familiar with the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI), you should be. It's one of the most accurate and valuable tools to help you better understand yourself, and identify your strengths and areas for growth. Although it's not going to jump out and tell you your passion, it may help you realize the entrepreneurial role that you may take in your future company (visionary, advisor, superstar, etc). These Four Characteristics Are: Extroversion (E) vs. Introversion (I) Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N) Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F) Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P) After you take the personality test, you will be given a four letter personality type indicator depending on which side of the spectrum you fall for each characteristic. For example if you were high in extraversion, intuition, thinking, and judging, then you would be assigned the character type ENTJ. The spectrums are simply just a measure of how much you like: To deal with people and things Facts and reality Logic and truth A life-style that is well constructed or one that goes with the flow Some character types are more highly associated with successful entrepreneurs and managers than others, but your score doesn't mean that you can or cannot be an entrepreneur, it simply reveals the characteristics that you should strive for that will lead towards higher chance of success. You might just be born to be an entrepreneur if you rank for one of these six personality types: ESTP - Known for taking fast action, thinking logically based on fact, and full of passion and energy. Only 4% of people fit this personality type, including famous novelist Ernest Hemingway. ENTJ - Natural born leaders known for ruthlessly pushing through to their goals through sheer determination and willpower. Steve Jobs was one of the 3% of the population categorized as an ENTJ. ENTP - Are seekers of knowledge and visionaries, and big dreamers. ENTP's like Thomas Edison will brainstorm a path to success and lead the team there. Only 3% of the population are ENTP. ESTJ - Making up no less than 11% of the population, ESTJs are well liked for their clear advice and guidance. These leaders great organizers and often lead by example and with honesty. Famous business mogul John D. Rockefeller was ESTJ. INTJ - These intellectual individuals are extremely ambitious, decisive, and curious. Elon Musk is a great example of an INTJ because he believes nothing is impossible with the right game plan. They make up only 2% of the population. ISTJ - Especially known for taking responsibility for their actions and executing work with accuracy and patience, these entrepreneurs always stick to their word. They make up 13% of the population including America's founder, George Washington. These six personality types all have four underlying trends in common, they're often curious, creative, they take responsibility, and they're decisive. Decisiveness Notice how every single one of those personalities rank higher in "Thinking" over "Feeling". That's because according to a 2004 U.S. study the most successful entrepreneurs will pick a direction to take the business and stick with it. This makes them naturally less likely to be concerned with keeping harmony and more focused on achieving the objective. Responsibility These personality types also take full responsibility over their futures and themselves. Psychoanalyst Jonathan Alpert notes that "the entrepreneur looks at the situation and knows he has some control over the outcome". Rather than making excuses for why things don't get done, they will take on obstacles as a challenge and assume personal responsibility for achieving the goal. This is known as having a high "locus of control", which has been proven by dozens of studies to be highly correlated with success in business. Curiosity The classic saying "leaders are readers" couldn't be more true. Entrepreneur personalities are always seeking out new knowledge, which is why so many of them often have their nose in a book. According to a Gallup study of hundreds of entrepreneurial personality traits, being curious makes the top 10 list of "must-have" traits to be successful as an entrepreneur. If you aren't learning every day, this may be the #1 habit you should strive to develop in the near future. Creativity Business is an intellectual art to entrepreneurs. You'll constantly be forced to find creative ways to overcome obstacles and do things differently in order to stand out. Gallup's CEO Jim Clifton remarked on a study of the fastest growing companies that "to stay competitive, we have to lead the world in per-person creativity". Being a leader in business is like being a professional problem solver, it takes a lot of brainstorming and creative planning to make your dreams come true. Once again, taking this personality test won't give you a silver bullet to discovering your passion, but it will help you understand which role you will eventually occupy in your company. Hello and welcome to Pocket Thoughts! Today is March 18th and we have a great episode planned for you guys today. Brady won’t be on today’s show, so it will just be Bobby, Joey, and I. The day we recorded this episode was the day that Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were shut down for over 6 hours so our first question is focused on that. Hypothetically if those apps were shut down for a month how would you go about marketing your business? Our second question is what do you think one major aspect of business an entrepreneur should have knowledge on when starting a business? We then dive into an Educating Entrepreneur related question and talk about how Educating Entrepreneurs differentiates from other courses in our personal opinion and where we see Educating Entrepreneurs in 10 years. Our third question we asked was, since we first started thinking about being an entrepreneur, how have our goals and motivation changed over time. And the final question for todays episode we each give our own definition of an what entrepreneur really is. Thank you everyone for listening! Stay up to date with everything Educating Entrepreneur related on social media and don’t be afraid to reach out, enjoy the week! Show Notes 01:58 - “Hypothetically if they (Instagram/Facebook/whatsapp) were shut down for a month how would you go about marketing your business? 6:42 - “What do you think one major aspect of business an entrepreneur should have knowledge on when starting their business?” 11:19 - “If you’re going to be a start up and be successful, you have to be extremely agile” 13:14 - “You need to design for others. You need to design for other people's pain points. You need to constantly change your product, your service to fit what they need. You need to constantly test” 16:23 - “What differentiates EE from other courses in your personal opinion? What can you see EE being in 10 years from now?” 19:48 - Bobby explains Educating Entrepreneurs 23:04 - “Since you first started thinking about being an entrepreneur, how have your goals or how has your motivation changed over time?” 33:13 - “How do you define an entrepreneur?” 35:06 - “I believe an entrepreneur is constantly learning, constantly changing, and constantly innovating” 39:28 - Weekly Wrap! Happy Monday everyone! Thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to Pocket Thoughts. On today’s episode we get very honest and real with each other by asking the question of what is one characteristic, trait, and as Bobby would say one little Hebejeebie that concerns us about going into business with each other? This also leads us into talking about potentially having the conversation about what would happen if one of us were to be dragging the company down and what we would do about that. This may be a tough conversation for most people to have, especially with their friends, but it is extremely beneficial and I suggest everyone do it. Please don’t forget to follow us on all of our social media by searching Educating Entrepreneurs. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! Or do I get 5.5 hours of sleep and perform at 90%and focus on EE and that is one thing I’ve been scared about since the beginning” 35:47 - Weekly Wrap! Subscribe! Hello everyone and welcome back! This is the 3rd episode of Pocket Thoughts presented by Educating Entrepreneurs and we’ve got a great episode ahead for you guys. Today we talk about our biggest fears, whether it be in life, business, or even in our development in entrepreneurship. During that discussion we take a dive into the school system and how we think students should be taught. Do we need to take those core classes or why is it not encouraged that someone can be the best in the arts, gym, or whatever you have a passion for? Later Joey calls out Bobby for being an arrogant prick and Bobby explains why he is alright with being called that. After breaking down each other fears we talk about the fact that there is no reason not to take a chance. What’s the worst that can happen? Who knows, just by asking that question or talking to that person you have always been scared to talk to because of rejection or whatever excuse you gave yourself for not doing it, it could open up a door to possibilities you never imagined. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and comment on what you thought of the show and let us know anything you guys want us to talk about for a future podcast. Enjoy the show! Show Notes 1:42 - “Biggest fear in life, biggest fear in business, development in entrepreneurship” 4:46 - “Failing should be thought of as learning” 12:08 - “Are we trying to make well rounded individuals, so they have places to fall back on, incase they don’t like what they are trying to specialize in? Or do we want to give them a general education all the way up to college and let them decide from there?” 17:19 - “Where do you draw the line with being totally fine with failure to the point where it doesn't push you and you’re just okay failing and still having that failure that can drive you on the other side? 23:20 - “If you’re scared of failure that you can prevent, just prevent it… That should not be a fear that should cross your mind” 31:09 - “Our world is so good at dehumanizing human beings in a sense that they appear to be Gods, but just humanize them, they have to do the same as you” Presented By: Educating Entrepreneurs Subscribe!
