“For new listeners, we hope it will be a great introduction to what the podcast is all about, and for our regular listeners, a reminder of the most interesting and impactful moments from Season 6.” Already missing REPOD? Don't worry, Season 7 of the podcast is launching very soon. In the meantime, our editor, Steve Ewing, put together some of his favorite clips from each episode of Season 6. In Season 6, we interviewed a few guests with ties to the puzzle hunt world, including TERPECA founder Rich Bragg, puzzle constructor Eric Berlin, and Chief Puzzle Officer Greg Pliska, of A.J. Jacobs's The Puzzler Podcast. We also explored unusual gameplay and immersive concepts with guests who are experimenting and innovating with their projects, including Christian Vernon and Zac MacKrell, creators of the replayable Doors of Divergence and Kellian and Brian Pletcher, creators of Club Drosselmeyer— an immersive, puzzling swing dance party. Plus Eric Wastl invented The Advent of Code, an advent calendar full of programming puzzles, and Lonnie Hanzon explained the intent behind his set designs at Camp Christmas. We covered some fan favorite escape rooms, interviewing Summer Herrick of Locurio, Marie Huber and Nico César of Red Fox Escapes, and Mike Dold and Rick George of Doldrick's. What I especially loved about these guests was how they explained the thought process behind their design decisions. In our interview with Christine Barger we talk more about effective social media marketing than escape room design. She actively encourages guests to film in her game! Season 6 also included episodes which were a departure from our normal interview style episodes, including my Halloween Spooktacular filled with games and stories, and hosting the hilarious crew from Hey Riddle Riddle to play through Shop of Theseus, our audio escape room from RECON 23. If you want even more podcast episodes, consider joining our Patreon. For only $5 a month, you'll get access to our Bonus Aftershow, which is a more casual conversation with each guest. “An escape room crossword puzzle” In Season 6, episode 8, we talk to the charming crossword constructor Eric Berlin. Eric is the creator of Puzzlesnacks, one of our favorite puzzle books, and he authored the Winston Breen trilogy, a series of puzzling novels for kids. Eric was also captain of Team Palindrome, one of the largest MIT Mystery Hunt teams, which won in 2021. Eric has a long and illustrious career crafting creative crossword puzzles. From brazening his way into Games Magazine board game nights to convincing Weird Al Yankovic to star in a cameo congratulating the winners of the MIT Mystery Hunt, Eric has great stories about being a passionate life-long word nerd. This conversation with Eric Berlin opened my eyes to a whole new world of crossword puzzles. I had no idea that they were heavily themed or could masquerade as magic shows and escape rooms. It's always wonderful to interview guests who are enthusiastic about their craft. It's delightful to see that Eric has maintained a lifelong love for puzzles. In this episode of Cannabis Unlocked, Eric Berlin (Partner at Dentons) sits down with Jordan Youkilis (Founding Partner at KEY Investment Partners) to discuss the journey of cannabis legalization and the hurdles experienced as traditional business efforts are exerted on the rapidly evolving cannabis market. This conversation begins with Eric's background in law, his successful efforts to legalize medical cannabis in Illinois and his path towards leading Denton's Cannabis Law practice. From there, Eric speaks to some of the complications cannabis businesses and investors face when attempting M&A deals or public offerings. The talk continues by walking through the range of opportunities in the cannabis and hemp markets and how these opportunities only represent a portion of the total market, the rest of which is made up of illicit product sales. This episode concludes with an overview of Canopy Growth's recent efforts to consolidate their holdings in US plant touching operations and the impact this has on the rest of the US cannabis market. Please enjoy!

Joining the show for today is Eric Berlin, who wrote The Puzzling World of Winston Breen and its two sequels, all of which belong to the small group of puzzle-themed middle-grade books that Arthur had devoured as a child. On top of that, Eric creates puzzles for a living, having whipped up crosswords and variety puzzles for the New York Times, concocted entire puzzle hunts, and launched the puzzle subscription website Puzzlesnacks. Tune into this conversation if you want to hear him chat with Arthur about the similarities between writing books and creating puzzle hunts, the unnecessary sanitization of antiheroes, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and more. Note: due to scheduling snafus, 2CC won't be uploading review episodes for the next couple weeks. But don't worry, because the podcast agenda will revert to normal on the week of the 27th. Puzzles are powerful. Have you ever had a hard time putting worries aside - blocking out your to-do list and experiencing a moment of real focus in a no-stakes, playful situation? Try a puzzle. I’m not just talking about sitting with a puzzle on paper or your smart phone. I’m talking about escape rooms and city-wide puzzle hunts. Solving puzzles alone or together is practice for when the stakes are high and we need to come up with new creative solutions to difficult problems. You’ll learn all about that in today’s episode of PlayGrounding with game designer and puzzle creator, Eric Berlin. Eric is a writer, former playwright and game designer. He’s the author of the young-adult mystery series, The Puzzling World of Winston Breen. He’s a graduate of the Juilliard School's playwriting program and also creates crossword puzzles for the New York Times, among others. In fact, he has one coming out next week on August 15, 2017. In addition, he has a website called Puzzle Your Kids, where you can download a new puzzle each week that will challenge your kids’ brains – or yours. Enjoy! Music by George Tsontakis adds to the ever-expanding Naxos American Classics Series with an inventive and colourful triptych of concertos, introduced on this podcast by Raymond Bisha. The works feature soloists Eric Berlin, member of Empire Brass and principal trumpeter of the Albany Symphony Orchestra; David Krakauer, one of the world’s finest klezmer clarinettists; and violinists Luosha Fang and Eunice Kim, known internationally for their solo and chamber performances. The Grammy Award-winning conductor David Alan Miller directs.
We learn about puzzle hunts and Winston Breen, courtesy of an interview with Eric Berlin. In the original series of Fill Me In (2008-11) there were rarely (if ever) show notes -- or if there were, they were lost to the blurry mists of time. But seriously, if you're going back to these old chestnuts, do you need show notes? No, you're a die-hard, stop-at-nothing, rabidly fanatical minion who will hungrily consume the glory days through badly recorded annals of Ryan and Brian lore. Your journey awaits.
