In this episode, I'm going to tell the story of how I came to be the carrier I am today. It's not particularly educational, and you should probably skip it. But if you want to listen, here it is. Also, the sound is a little jittery in the beginning because of an app I had running in the background. Lesson learned on that one. Luckily, it's still basically understandable, and I wasn't saying anything important, anyway.

David's sin of self-indulgence had tremendous consequences for him and all those who were touched by it. He committed adultery and murder, and the dysfunction it caused was great. God was gracious to forgive, but David still had to deal with the consequences.

Dave and Ethan review the October 28, 2022 “Weird Al” Yankovic concert at Kimmel Cultural Campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from The Unfortunate Return Of The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.
We are in the time of mid-winter. Imbolc and the time of the Snow Moon remind us to get ready for spring but spring is not yet here. The full moon on Feb. 5th is almost here. Let me illuminate something for you.Mid-Winter is time to rest.Even though the days are getting a little longer, it's not yet time to put your plants in the ground or start budding. This episode reminds you to rest. It consists of an introduction and then a fifteen-minute guided meditation with Michael Jamanis's rich evocative soundtrack to help you slow down your mind and body.So many of us think that we have to start the new year with a bang, but I don't agree. We are still in the deep of winter for many of us; it's still a time when yin energy dominates. That is, it's time to go slow, turn inward, sleep more and allow our energy to be restored. It's not the time to “jump” into goals or launch new initiatives. It's time to rest and clean or purify.Unfortunately, the Protestant Work Ethic, extraction thinking, fear and capitalism all work together to make us feel guilty about resting. We might feel self-indulgent or privileged if we decline invitations to work or serve and instead choose rest.Think about it.How do you feel when you rest?Do you hide that you are resting? What words do you use to describe rest?Lazy.Idle.Indulgent.But rest isn't something to save up for vacation; it's part of the natural rhythm of each day and of the winter season. If we ignore winter's slow energy and keep going, we might find ourselves emotionally tapped out and with lower immunity. We may not have that energy burst when spring comes on the equinox. We get depleted when we are out of sync with the seasons. So,I invite you to listen to your Wise Self and find out if she needs rest. Next month, I'll have a special episode about “springing forward” and going after what you want.March is a time to articulate your vision and manifest.Next month, I invite you to gestate your vision and give yourself permission to focus on that which pleases you. I'll be hosting a Micro-Retreat that includes creating a vision board and trusting your Wise Self. I started a 7 Deadly Sins of Podcasting in my weekly newsletter and wanted to bring it to you here on the podcast too. Number one of the 7 deadly sins of podcasting is gluttony or what we also call over-indulgence. Many of us like to talk but sometimes we risk taking over or ignoring the cues from show hosts and making it all about us instead of considering the audience and what they would most benefit from. What do we do about it? How can we deal with it as show hosts? What's the most likely outcome of being too self-absorbed and self-indulgent as a podcast guest? Look out for my holiday special episode coming out later this week as I bring back the amazing Simon Lancaster to the show.Come and join other professionals who are building their authority through podcasting in the Podfluencers Facebook Group https://bit.ly/3aesFPJ and get your free download of How to build authority with podcastsDid you enjoy the show? Did you learn anything new or useful? If you did, then the best way to show your appreciation is by sharing the show with your online network. Here's what to expect:Though the holidays are our favorite time of the year, we tend to put the most pressure on ourselves during this seasonLast year, we did an episode called, “Holiday Dissappointment: When Mom's Expectations Don't Meet Reality” where we discovered that we need to stop trying to make magic happen for our kids and let it happen naturallyToday, we're going to talk about letting that magic happen for ourselves. “That'll buff out,” says Steph. As your kids get older, they find what they love most about Christmas and become keepers of your Christmas traditionsPretend you're an 11-year-old at Christmas - they embrace the parts they love, ignore the parts they don't, and enjoy holiday cheer purely for themselvesWhen you can stop depending on others — your husband, your children, your family and friends — to fill your cup and make you whole, you'll be a lot happier - sound advice from the book, “Mindful Loving”Break out your notebook so you can take notes!
