Baylor has made the decision to retain Blake Shapen as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. Coach Dave Aranda confirmed this choice after a spring competition that involved Sawyer Robertson, a transfer from Mississippi State. Shapen secured the starting position in the previous spring and maintained it throughout a challenging 2022 season. Despite ups and downs, he completed 63.3% of his passes, accumulating 2,790 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Baylor, the reigning Big 12 champion, ended the season with a 6-7 overall record and 4-5 in conference play. Hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana, Shapen emerged as a talented freshman in 2021, impressing with 596 passing yards and five touchdowns. He outperformed the incumbent starter, Gerry Bohanon, during the spring competition, prompting Bohanon to transfer to South Florida. Shapen exhibited a strong start, delivering seven touchdowns and only one interception in the initial four games, showcasing his accuracy. However, he encountered challenges in Big 12 play, with three games featuring multiple interceptions, and he failed to surpass 270 passing yards in his last seven games. Sawyer Robertson, ranked 56th overall in ESPN's 2021 class, saw action in five games for Mississippi State last season. Aranda acknowledged Robertson's progress during spring practice but ultimately decided that Shapen had earned the right to retain the starting role. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Welcome to Behind Enemy Lines Episode 8. In this episode we are joined by Guerry Smith, Tulane beat writer for NOLA.com and the publisher of "The Wave Report." Guerry is a lifelong New Orleans resident and has covered the Tulane Green Wave since 2011. Guerry has covered the Tulane Green Wave football team during some pretty up and down years, so we spent quite a bit of time talking about the resurgence that Tulane is experiencing this year. They come into the game against the Tigers with a record of 6-1, 3-0 in the AAC. They picked up enough votes in the AP poll to be ranked #25 for the first time in over twenty years. Tulane's resurgence can be attributed to the play of quarterback Michael Pratt and running back Tyjae Spears. Tulane also went heavy in the transfer portal this year bringing in ten players that are contributing to the team this year. Maryland transfer wide receiver Dea Dea McDougle has joined Michael Pratt, his high school teammate, and has added another threat to the offense. He has 16 receptions for 187 yards and 1 touchdown. They also boast a highly aggressive defense led by linebackers Dorian Wiliams and Nick Anderson. Memphis and Tulane have played 37 games against each other in their history, and Memphis owns a lead of 24 wins to 13 losses. Memphis comes into this game with a record of 4-3, 2-2 in the AAC. Guerry believes the biggest matchup in the game will be if Memphis' wide receivers can stretch the field on the Tulane secondary. He believes that this Tulane team is the best tackling team he has ever seen, and does not believe Memphis will be able to run the ball well against Tulane. Tulane has only given up 30 explosive plays this year, but in their previous week's game against USF, quarterback Jerry Bohanon was lighting up the Tulane secondary. Tulane pulled away in the second half due to an injury to Bohanon. He believes Memphis has the quality quarter in Seth Henigan and tall, physical receivers that could give Tulane a tough matchup. He expects that if Tulane comes in focused and not overwhelmed by the national attention they have been receiving, the Tigers will have a tough time beating Tulane on the road in New Orleans. About Behind Enemy Lines Behind Enemy Lines is a GoTigers247 audio podcast where we interview beat writers that cover Tiger opponents. The podcast is recorded the week prior to the game so listeners will get the most up to date information for the specific matchup. Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast On Baylor Bears Football & Basketball

In a Baylor eulogy to former starting quarterback Gerry Bohanon, Locked On Baylor host Drake Toll is joined by Robert Steeg of the Daily Stampede to close the book of Bohanon at Baylor. Steeg, a longtime South Florida analyst, breaks down how Bohanon's visit to Tampa made the university his eventual landing spot out of the transfer portal. With Missouri and Oklahoma once on the table for the Sugar Bowl-winning quarterback, many Baylor fans, including Drake, have still been wracking their brains to understand why Bohanon would leave for Tampa. Although Steeg doesn't have it all mapped out himself, it's starting to make more sense. Drake then takes a deep dive into Steeg's reaction to Bohanon joining the Bulls. From a South Florida fan's point of view, how is the addition of the former Baylor quarterback viewed? Well, with the returning pieces and transfer portal additions the team brings back, Bohanon is a lighthouse pointing in the direction of a .500 season — a godsend for the bottom-dweller Bulls. South Florida nation is ready for someone to step in and deliver their program a bowl game. The guys round out the show by talking about Jeff Scott and the Bulls' schedule next season. Bohanon will have the opportunity to prove his worth against teams like BYU, Florida, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. An aspiring NFL draftee, Bohanon, who is still beloved by Baylor faithful, will have a shot to propel his draft stock — even in Tampa. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Big 12 conference is supposedly far worse than the SEC, but how wide is that gap… and does it even exist? With sturdy programs like Dave Aranda's Baylor leading the charge, the gap between the two leagues feels like it's closing. John Garcia Jr., the director of recruiting at Sports Illustrated, joins the show to talk about how the leagues differ from one another and if Big 12 defenses are meeting the SEC. Holy. South. Florida. Why is Gerry Bohanon transferring there? Bohanon, Baylor's starting quarterback last season under Dave Aranda, helped lead the Bears to a 12-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win over Ole Miss. Next year he'll be a member of the 2-10 USF Bulls whose head coach is 3-18 as the skipper. Drake and John try to read between the lines and figure out what happened here, but the QB who had looks from Oklahoma and Missouri must have really just loved the weather in Tampa.  The age of the transfer portal in college sports has taken Baylor, the Big 12 and the entire NCAA by storm. How is this era of players moving and shaking bad for coaches like Glenn Moore and Steve Rodriguez, though? The Baylor Bears are in a unique spot that affords the University the opportunity to recruit players intentionally, specifically and with an emphasis on character and loyalty.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Something smells like Matthew Mayer is not going to the NBA. Sure he's working out in Chicago right now to prepare for the draft, but this all has the feel of Mayer returning to college to play another year at somewhere not named Baylor University. That said, will the Scott Drew prodigy go to another Big 12 school? With teams like Texas Tech, USC, UNC, Illinois and Arkansas on the line, where is the best landing spot for the big man. And lastly, Drake joined the team at Locked On Bears to talk Trestan Ebner and what the back will add in Chicago. Ebner, owner of a breakout season on the ground last year at Baylor, is the most electrically inconsistent player Drake has ever seen play. As a hotbed for NFL talent, and on the cusp of having four NFL offensive linemen next season, something is brewing in Waco. Outside of the draft and inside the walls of McLane, a quarterback battle has been settled. Blake Shapen has beat out Gerry Bohanon for the starting job. So, what does this mean for Baylor? John gives his thoughts on how dynamic and electric Shapen can be in the Baylor offense and even tackles the comparison between Shapen and Zach Wilson. John also gives favorable landing spots for Bohanon. And we round out today's show with a discussion about Matthew Mayer's future in basketball — a future that will be away from Baylor. Blake Shapen and Gerry Bohanon are in a classic battle to be the 2022 quarterback for Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears football team — and Shapen outplayed Bohanon in the Green and Gold game. Now, so what? Does that even matter? It's such a small sample size, are you really going to base the next starter off of one scrimmage? Of course not, but we simply saw Shapen play better on Saturday. That needs to be accounted for. Travis Roeder of SicEm365 joins the show to help break down how the quarterback battle has progressed, how it was displayed Saturday and what other positions stood out to Travis at the spring game. From Monaray Baldwin to Ben Simms and plenty of guys in between, the team had a very, very good Green and Gold game. Travis goes in-depth on why. And an inciteful show would not be complete without a little fun with Michael Woodson, the head men's tennis coach at Baylor, joining to round out the day. Woodson breaks down his team's Big 12 championship victory over No. 1 TCU on Saturday and how it impacts the team's seeding in the postseason. The Baylor Bears are 1 win away from a 10 win season after dominating the Kansas State Wildcats. The final score of 20-10 does not tell the full story of this one. Aside from one 65 yard run the Bears didn't give the Wildcats any room to breathe. Travis opens this episode talking about the potential of Baylor making a 2nd Big 12 Championship appearance in 3 years. There were several different scenarios that could have landed the Bears in the Conference Championship, but now we have a clear cut answer. Beat Tech and hope the Pokes pull it out against the Sooners. Gerry Bohanon went down with a hamstring injury in the closing minutes of the 1st half, but redshirt Freshman QB Blake Shapen stepped in beautifully leading the Bears to a FG before half and crushing the Wildcat's momentum. Travis updates us on Bohanon's injury and compares and contrasts the strengths and weaknesses between the two QB's. Travis believes Shapen can lead us to a Big 12 Championship if given the chance. We then break down what made the win over a very good Kansas State so dominant. They've flown under the radar this year, but had they won they would have had the same record as the Bears. As we know now, that didn't happen, and the advanced statistics tell a different story than the final score. Next we'll preview the BUTT bowl as the Bears have an excellent opportunity to reach 10 wins on the season on Senior day in Waco. We could see a few QB's play for Tech, but Travis believes the defensive game plan should stay fairly similar regardless of who is under center for the Red Raiders. Finally Travis wraps up this episode with what Jalen Pitre, "The One Who Stayed", has meant to Baylor University. Also his thoughts on this special group of Seniors who decided to stick around when Aranda came to town, and we can't thank them enough. Meet Jesse Bohanon Throughout my time as an out transgender human, it has not been uncommon for me to be contacted by a younger trans person who is starting to come out; they either want more information or just want to get connected to the trans community. Usually, when this happens, especially if they're pretty young, my first agenda is to get them connected to other people their age. There is something special about connecting with another person who has a shared experience. It is a connection that is hard to describe. And as far as I'm concerned, it is the most important piece for a human being starting to explore their gender identity or exploring transition to connect with other people who've been through that or who are going through that now. In the case of Jesse Bohanon, I got an email from him out of the blue saying that a professor at KU (I had spoken at their class) recommended he get in touch with me. We arranged to meet at the Kansas Union for a cup of coffee. I fully expected to meet this young human and connect them to some other trans people their age. Turns out that meeting was the beginning of a friendship. Hanging out with Jesse, even for just a short time, it was obvious that I was going to hold onto this one. He had already traveled the world. He was smart, funny and articulate. And most importantly, he was a huge KU basketball fan. I got to witness Jesse make his transition, go through his name change and create himself as the trans man he is today--picking up the helm of educating and advocating for other transgender humans. I have said before, I have great faith in the younger generation, and it's humans like Jesse who continue to give me that ray of hope. I'm sure you'll love him as much as I do--introducing Jesse Bohanon.

It was a rough weekend for the Baylor Bears, but the good news is Travis is back. And this week he's got a little help from co-host Scotty Swingler.  The conversation begins with Scotty's overall impression of the team and if Gerry Bohanon was the right choice at QB. Then we dive in for a closer look at that horrendous loss to Oklahoma State. We'll discuss how Stillwater seems to be Baylor's kryptonite, and how each of Baylor's Head Coaches in the past 2 decades haven't had much success there either. Scotty also shares his experience in Stillwater as a Pokes' fan decided to "throw hands", as they say, prior to the start of College Gameday. After Travis and Scotty wrap up with their positive spins on the loss, it's time to talk about WVU. Are we sure that Doege is the answer at QB for the Mountaineers? Short answer... No. But we hope he continues to play as we believe that gives Baylor the best chance to win. Defensively West Virginia is one of the best in the Big 12 and that's no surprise. They lead the Big 12 in sacks this year with 17. If Baylor can't get the run game going it's going to be up to Bohanon to hit those deep balls he has struggled with to this point. Travis believes he can do it, and playing at home helps out alot. Travis explains his "Bear Necessities" for a Baylor win before capping the episode off with game predictions. West Virginia has had an up and down year, so which team will the Bears' get this weekend? The team who played OU close on the road or the team who just lost to Tech? The goal for me leading into Big 12 play was to build confidence and momentum. There's no doubt we've accomplished that heading into this weekend's game versus the Kansas Jayhawks.  We kickoff this week with Travis' own version of "Overreaction Monday". How after watching the other Big 12 teams through 2 games should increase our optimism of where we will end the year. The other QB's in the conference have not impressed to this point. Next is a recap of the offensive and defensive performances against Texas Southern, and are then joined by Andrew Miner to give us his thoughts on his recent article on Gerry Bohanon. Andrew gives us insight on all the adversity Bohanon has faced and how that has shaped him into who he is today. Travis ends the episode scouting the Jayhawks and how important it will be this weekend to contain the Kansas QB, Jason Bean. Baylor should walk away with a win, but still need to continue building momentum for a huge game next weekend.  JOIN THE BANTER: Follow @PleaseBearW_Me on Twitter and Please Bear With Me on Facebook. I take no joy, maybe a little, in destroying this beast of a bitch. She is terrible. But, I would never in my life ever do this to an innocent person for money. I would never do the things she took so mich pleasure in doing to me to anyone regardless of their wrong doings. I will be happy the day she does kill herself and if this podcast is the reason than I am happy for it. The world is better. But I will also not be held to any legal standard because all those on the recordings, to this day, deny the existence of of anything pertaining to the recordings. Not one of them has ever said they are real. The Jizz Stain texts me regularly asking why we don't talk anymore. She pretends that I am as dumb as she is because I clearly have you on the recordings but they all maintain this insane charade because they have nothing left. Everything has been stripped Way from me. I spent three months in Jail at George Bailey for two DUIs that Jimbo set me up for. I have also been beaten by SD County Sheriff courtesy of former friend and huge waste if space Kevin butternuts Bohanon who will be performing blow jobs to support his family soon. I will gladly give you his number that way you can schedule the dick sucking on your own time frame.. Anyway, I digress. Regarding the recordings, the common excuse they offer is that I need meds and mental health therapy. That I am drug addict and that I am sick and how can we help you Jay because you are broken and your life is in shambles because you are a schizophrenic degenerate alcoholic with emotional problems. If you would accept responsibility for your issues than we will gladly help you in any way. They told me this for five years. They still do. To this day, not one of these shit bags have said one thing about the existence of the podcast or any of the recordings. In fact, when I have played recordings for Jizz or Sharon they look me right in the eyes and say. "I don't hear anything. Will you please take your meds? You are scaring me and I can't allow you to live her or be here if you don't take your meds!" That's who they all are. Judgement Day is here and you all will need 4 Billion Degree Sunblock based on the temp of where you all are destined to go. That was your own choice to do what you all have done to me and you are therefore held accountable and you can not place the blame on anyone else. Especially, me. May someone take mercy on your soul because it won't be me as you all showed no mer.cy to me. I pray you all commit suicide shortly. That would be the honorable way to end this. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jay-kambestad/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jay-kambestad/support
