Satan was busily seeking throughout the Old Testament to destroy anyone who could potentially be the Messiah. And in the New, Satan works hard to lure Jesus away, thus the personal temptations, because you can't absolutely trust God: Serve yourself, Receiving is better, and prove yourself. Satan was even working in Peter to get in the way of God's plan of salvation. Visit southplains.org to request prayer and to stay up to date, or join our Facebook Group.

Joshua was a successful and God-fearing leader. He led the Israelites in following and obeying God, and under his leadership, they experienced God's provision and the fulfillment of his promises. We long to hear the advice of successful leaders like Joshua and learn from the secrets of their success. The book of Joshua concludes with Joshua's farewell speech to the Israelites. In it, he recalls that all his strength, all his victories, and all his successful leadership is God's doing and he urges Israel to remember it too. Join us as we study Joshua's farewell speech and discuss how we can continue to remember our promise-keeping God and all he has done for us through the work of Jesus Christ.

Have you ever had someone look right past you when you were talking to them? Can you think of a time you've done that to someone else? In the busyness and demands of life, it's easy to look right past people rather than truly care for them, even the people we should care most about. It's happened to all of us, and we've all done it to someone else.Consequently, our relationships suffer, we feel unappreciated and unseen, and we perpetuate the problem by ignoring the very real needs of others. In the famous parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus shows us the danger of “people blindness”: the inability to see someone in their humanity, made in the image of God and worthy our time and attention. And so, just as God cares for us in our need, He is calling us to compassionately see and respond to those around us.Can we share with you how the compassionate love of Jesus can lead you into a life of compassion? Can you help us to see people the way that Jesus sees them, made in the image of God and worthy of compassion? Contact us. Do you ever feel isolated, alone? The weight of things holding you down?In the second week of our "Love God Serve People" Series, our dear friend Gary Moody shares what it's like to find Blessings in the Wilderness. Gary shares from Scripture, and his personal journey, that in the midst of those isolated times, God is leading us to find and see hope. That hope begins with faith in the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the confidence in His desire to see you become the person He has created you to be. Can we share with you the daily and eternal Blessings we've found in our journey through the wilderness? Can you be a part of encouraging us with your story of hope? Do you ever feel like you're suffering from a love shortage? As though you only have a small amount of love to go around and it's not enough for the people you have to deal with in your life?In these few verses (1Peter4:7-11), the Apostle Peter describes how our love has to be expansive-stretchy-if we're going to be able to love one another, rather than give way to bitterness or anger.More info https://www.ebc.org or call (609.267.4755), email (office@ebc.org), DM us on Instagram or Facebook, or come see us in person at Easton Bible Church. Thank you for subscribing and sharing.#eastonbiblechurch #hainesportnj #stretchylove #loveoneanother   #lovegodservepeople

Do you tend to see people as a lost cause or a cause worth fighting for? What do you think keeps us from seeing people the way that God sees them?Your perspective - how you look at the world-determines so much about how you live, the decisions you make, who you love, and what you hate. So, how do you see the world? What is the lens through which you look at the people around you? And, even more importantly, do you see them the way that God sees them? In this passage in 2 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul challenges us to see people not as irredeemable or as our enemies or not worth loving, but as people whom God loves and for whom Jesus gave His life. Can we go forward with you to share the future God has in store for us? It is becoming increasingly intimidating to openly profess faith in Christ. A faithful witness of the Lord Jesus or an open profession of the truths of the Bible can have serious consequences, not only if living in an Islamic or Communist State, but in the West, where religious freedom was at one time considered a pillar of democracy. But, as always, when God's children suffer oppression from the world, God is at work.

The old saying goes, “Everybody loves an underdog.”  I think it is because underdogs exceed expectations.  They give us hope that we, too, though overwhelmed, can win.    On Valentine’s Day in 1992, two Alabama high schools met in a regular season basketball game.  They were the Fort Payne Wildcats and the North Jackson Chiefs.  The game was hard fought and went into overtime.  The refs were calling a lot of fouls that night.  Player after player fouled out.  Before it ended, the Chiefs, who had a limited roster, only had 2 players on the court.  It was 2 against 5 and they were down by 1 point with 5 seconds left.    Against those odds, what are the chances?  Little to none.    The one Chief inbounded the ball to his teammate who streaked down the court with five Wildcats chasing him.  He shot a layup and missed, but no Wildcat thought to block out the player who inbounded the ball.  He was trailing the pack, got the rebound, and tossed in the winning shot as time expired.   The crowd went crazy because everybody loves an underdog.   We serve a God who loves the underdog.  He glories in exceeding expectations. Often our weaknesses are a platform on which His power is displayed.   The story of Gideon in the Bible is a clear example of how God shows Himself strong through our weaknesses.   Join us at Istrouma this Sunday as we will again see how God can exceed all our expectations as we yield our lives to Him.     Carousel: The Broken Heroes of Judges “Exceed Expectations: Part 2” Judges 7   Committed warriors And the Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you”(7:7a). The Gospel In Every Word

elibrayley.comThe Gospel of JohnJohn 13:1-11 (NASB)1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. 2 During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.5 Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” 8 Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” 10 Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

The latter means we are aware of problems and issues and needs that go in every direction. How do we cope with this? How do we keep up? What should our response be to the needs of others? So often we feel alone as parents. But we aren't supposed to do it alone. Raising kids who love God and love others doesn't have to be filled with shame. We don't have to fear that we're somehow messing them up. In this episode, we break down Proverbs 22:6, and how we can raise our children "in the way." Leading our children in "the way," is about the environment we raise them in. Consequently, we created a community called TwentyTwoSix.  A way to connect with our kids at a heart level. Without needing to add anything more to our already busy day, we lay out content for the four key times of the day prescribed by Moses--morning prayers, drive-time games, dinnertime stories, and bedtime questions. In this episode, we also talk about the monthly mile-markers--a new character trait or life skill necessary for our kids to grow in emotional and spiritual maturity. Though parenting isn't easy, we believe doing it together can make it simpler. That's what this community is all about. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 Egyptian Slave or Slave of God? Exodus 20:1-6 NLT Then God gave the people all these instructions : “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. “You must not have any other god but me. “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. __________ Are we ever free? Does obligation cease to exist? Can we flout the laws of nature and live? Or are we slaves to pain or passion? Are we always possessed by another? Carefully answer, for do you not desire the commitment and companionship of another? Would you not willingly give your heart to the one you love? The Israelites were slaves of the Egyptians but God had set them free. And still it seems in chapter 21 of Exodus that the Hebrews themselves had imbibed the elixir of ownership and possession of another human. We should not wonder at this social structure. I believe that it is too simple to expect that since they've been freed they extend freedom. Far from our human nature, prison populations nearly always develop a strict structured hierarchy that includes servitude. Countries formerly under tyranny are some of the worst offenders when it comes to civil war, unrest and the ruthless struggle for power. It appears that freedom does not beget freedom! So if we are going to fall prey to a regime, why not willingly serve God. As he set his people free he demonstrated his unparalleled power. But in his protection of his people he demonstrated his unparalleled love. At this time, in this world, the idea that everyone will be good and can be trusted if they are left to thier own devices is not born out by reality. We love slavery! So be a slave of God. This is not just an idea of the age of law. Paul also persuades us to see ourselves as slaves. He evokes the picture of the indentured servant seen in Exodus 21. And like the challenge issued by Joshua 40 years later to God's people, Moses here in Exodus 20 is saying "Choose you this day whom you will serve" Quit fooling yourself with lies of inate goodness flourishing in the nurture of "complete 'freedom'"! You will serve a master. Of that you can be sure. The question is whether your master is as good as God? Serve the Lord God and live to the fullest!
