Join us for an unforgettable conversation with Lance LoRusso—attorney, former law enforcement officer, and founder of the Blue Line Lawyer Institute. Lance shares his journey from the streets to the courtroom, shedding light on the physical, emotional, and legal battles faced by first responders. We explore the profound impact of PTSD, the effects of movements like “defund the police,” and how these forces are shaping officer training and public safety. At the heart of the conversation is Lance's core belief: Serve Others. Live Without Fear.—also the title of his upcoming book. We also discuss his latest novel, Hunting of Men, available at lancelorussobooks.com. This is a heartfelt, eye opening look at those who serve, and those who fight for them.
Today's message from Pastor Daniel Strosnider, dives into Philippians 1:21-27, where Paul is torn between his desire to be with Christ and living his life for Christ. Today let's take our eyes off of our worldly comforts, address our superficial beliefs, serve others as examples of the evidence of heaven on earth, and know we are in this together. Join us this week as we are in 1 Peter chapter 4, verses 10-11. Tonight we study Spiritual gifts. There are three main things to see from these two verses. 1) Believe that you are Spiritually gifted. Every Christian has received a Spiritual gift. 2) Serve others, as stewards of grace. 3) Spiritually serve - leaning on God. We pray that through this study, if you will ask God what your Spiritual gift is, if you don't already know. If you do, we pray that God is using that gift through you in mighty ways! Mission Church of the Nazarene
Overview At Covenant Life Fellowship, we believe that God calls His people to a life of joyful worship and service. In this sermon, we explore what it means to serve others as an overflow of gratitude for God’s saving work in our lives.
The ability to look like Jesus doesn't take a program or an organized event. We're provided with moments, little moments, non-headline moments, to serve others. We are on mission when our lives reflect Jesus. When we serve others like Jesus served others in the little things and in the details of life, we are on mission. FCC seeks to be a place that serves others.
Welcome to Sylvan Way and thanks for joining us as we worship Jesus! Serve Others (B. L. E. S. S.) Where we seek to Love God, Love Others, and Live on Mission. We are a church that strives to live fully for Jesus, while sharing His story with others. To learn more: sylvanway.com Send us your prayer requests & comments: sylvanway.com/connect To partner with us through giving: sylvanway.
We may think that only certain people are called to serve others with their gifts and talents. Some of us even fall for the lie that we don't have anything special to offer the world. But just as Jesus came not to be served but to serve, God wants us to use the gifts we have as a blessing to those around us. How do we find a place to serve God? What is required to take that next step? In part three of "Elevate Your Faith", Pastor Joe teaches us the importance of saying "yes" to serving with our gifts - no matter how unqualified or ready we feel.

Don and John chat with Steve Whicker—regional director and Rochester campus pastor—about the value of goal setting and habit building. They get real about self-discipline and consistency, including a look into Steve’s systematic approach to habit stacking.
Background - Where did this topic come from. It started with conviction. God has really been laying on my heart the need to do a better job of listeningJames 1: 19 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. I confess…I need to be better at this. You know this…I don't like the silence. I will quickly fill it with my words. Not a great quality for a pastoral counselor/life coach. I am also way too impatience when I am listening to others. It's like I want to speed up their thought and finish their sentence for them if they are struggling. Again….not a good quality for a counselor or coach. But I don't think I'm alone in this. God's been showing me how poorly we as believers are doing in truly listening to others. We're not taking the time to truly listen. So we want to help those who may be listening today how to take time to listen…to God and to others.Acknowledge the Need for a Listening Heart.Be Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak: James 1:19 emphasizes the importance of actively listening before responding. This applies both to hearing from God and engaging with others. Pray for Discernment: Ask God to open your spiritual ears and grant wisdom in understanding His voice and the needs of those around you.Create Space to Hear His Voice: Regular quiet time allows you to tune out distractions and better hear God's gentle promptings (Psalm 46:10). Be still and Know that I am God.Sit in the Silence: Practice not saying the next words, at least for a while. It's not about not talking at all, it's more about letting the thoughts of the other person be spoken without your immediate response. No Need to Share Your Story: Sit in their story and resist the desire to tell your similar or related story. Ex. they tell a story about their troubled teen and you immediately are triggered about your own troubled teen and want to share your story. Keep the focus on their story. Listen with Empathy and Compassion Seek to Understand: Try to see things from the other person's perspective. Ask clarifying questions and show genuine interest in their thoughts and feelings.Hebrews 10:24-25- And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.Offer Support and Encouragement: Let your words and actions reflect Christ's love and compassion 1 Thess 5:11. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.Practice Active Listening: Avoid Clinical or Analytical Speak: Listen for God's Word in Scripture and Daily Life (Psalm 119:105)Regular Bible Study: Seek God in All Things: Put Your Faith into Action: True listening involves responding to what you hear from God and others.Be Obedient to God's Will: Seek to align your life with God's plan and purpose (Romans 12:1-2).Serve Others with Humility: Use your listening skills to minister to the needs of those around you (Galatians 5:13).Avoid Giving Unsolicited Advice: https://rocksolidfamilies.orgSupport the show#Rocksolidfamilies, #familytherapy, #marriagecounseling, #parenting, #faithbasedcounseling, #counseling, #Strongdads, #coaching, #lifecoach, #lifecoaching, #marriagecoaching, #marriageandfamily, #control, #security, #respect, #affection, #love, #purpose, #faith, #affairs, #infidelity

This week we're diving into this past Sunday's message about serving others (Matt. 25:31-42), and not just serving others but also specifically our brothers and sisters in Christ. We're looking at what scripture says about that, and also some other evidence we have about Christ's words from that famous chapter. Today's speakers are Nate, Bill and Nick

As always, I appreciate your feedback, questions, and reviews!” **(27:00 – 23:00)** Spiritual Habits - **(23:00 – 0:00)* * PART 1 Part 1: What is Biblical Character? 1. Definition of Biblical Character • Definition: Dictionary definition of character 1. "Moral or ethical strength: integrity. Biblical perspective on character 1. Character as inner moral strength 2. Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV): "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life." Biblical character is the moral and spiritual qualities that align with God's Word, reflecting His nature and will in a person's life. ◦ Rooted in the word “character,” which implies a distinctive mark or engraving. Biblical character involves being “marked” by God's nature. • Key Passage: Romans 5:3-4 "And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." • A. Integrity 1. Definition: "The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles"2. Job 2:3 (NKJV): "And the Lord said to Satan, 'Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.'" • B. Faithfulness 1. Importance of being trustworthy 2. Luke 16:10 (NKJV): "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much." 2. Examples of Biblical Character in Scripture • Abraham (Faith and Obedience): ◦ Genesis 22:12: "And He said, 'Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.'" ◦ Emphasis on obedience to God despite personal cost. • Joseph (Integrity and Forgiveness): ◦ Genesis 39:9: "There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" ◦ Focus on Joseph's integrity and forgiveness in Genesis 50:20. • Ruth (Loyalty and Devotion): ◦ Ruth 1:16: "Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God." • Daniel (Faithfulness): ◦ Daniel 6:10: "Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days." 3. Why Biblical Character Matters • Reflection of God's Nature: ◦ 1 Peter 1:15-16: "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'" • Witness to Others: ◦ Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." **(00:00) END PART 1** **(27:00 – 5:00) BEGIN PART 2** Part 2: Developing Biblical Character 1. Foundational Principles for Developing Biblical Character • Commit to God's Word: ◦ Psalm 119:11: "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." ◦ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV): "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. ◦ Spiritual habit of daily Bible reading and meditation. ◦ Study and Meditate on God's Word - Joshua 1:8 (NKJV): "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." - Practical tips for Bible study and meditation ◦ Practical tip: Use a reading plan to engage with Scripture regularly. • Prayer for Transformation: ◦ Philippians 4:6-7: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." ◦ Develop a habit of daily prayer asking God for character growth. ◦ Cultivate a Strong Prayer Life - 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV): "Pray without ceasing." - Different types of prayer and their importance in character development • Community and Accountability: ◦ Relationship - Building authentic connections 1. With God: Prayer and personal devotion 2. With others: Accountability and fellowship ◦ 1 Thessalonians 2:8 (NKJV): "So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us." ◦ Proverbs 27:17: "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." ◦ Be involved in a discipleship relationship or small group for encouragement and accountability. ◦ Embrace Accountability and Community - Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV): "As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." - The importance of Christian fellowship in character growth 2. Practical Steps to Build Character • Practice Humility: ◦ Philippians 2:3-4: "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." ◦ Practice Obedience and Submission to God - James 1:22 (NKJV): "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." - The role of obedience in shaping character • Respond Well to Trials: ◦ James 1:2-4: "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." ◦ View difficulties as opportunities for God to refine character. • Serve Others: ◦ Mark 10:45: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." ◦ Develop selflessness through acts of service. * Develop Spiritual Disciplines (4 minutes) - Fasting, solitude, service, etc. - 1 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV): "But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness." 3. Encouragement to Continue Growing • Ongoing Process: ◦ 2 Peter 1:5-7: "But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love." ◦ Sanctification is a lifelong journey. ◦ Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV): "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." ◦ • Final Exhortation: ◦ Galatians 6:9: "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Call to Action: • Reflect on one area of character that needs development this week. • Commit to one practical step (e.g., memorize a verse, journal about a trial, seek accountability). • Pray daily for God's help to grow in character. **(5:00 – 1:00)** Doctrine of the Month - Salvation *The Need for Salvation Romans 3:23-24 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Define salvation as deliverance from sin and its consequences. Briefly discuss the universality of sin. *Sin Problem Explain sin as rebellion against God (1 John 3:4 - Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.). Emphasize the separation sin causes between humanity and God (Isaiah 59:1-2 - 1 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.). *God's Standard Discuss God's holiness and the impossibility of humans meeting His standard (Romans 3:10 - 9What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” 13“Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; 14“Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” 15“Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16Destruction and misery are in their ways; 17And the way of peace they have not known.” 18“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”). Reflect on your need for salvation and your personal standing before God. **(1:00)** - “Thank you for listening today! Giving Thanks should be a daily part of the life of every disciple of Jesus. Leadership: It's a journey. Don recounts his trip to the Grand Canyon in the heat of August and the lessons learned along the way. From preparation, overcoming the nay-sayers, and trying to keep up with his son’s hiking pace, he finds how God is in the details of it all. Don and John talk about enjoying the journey of leadership, not the end result.
Guest: Gabe Boyd This is a throwback episode looking at one of the episodes that Gabe and I recorded talking about some important elements of what it means to be a man - this is the statement that we created to summarize those elements: Men speak truth, serve others, love deeply, endure joyfully, and humbly walk with the Lord. The concept of serving others embodies the idea that you see others and desire meet their needs even if that comes at a cost to yourself - this requires humility and an other-centeredness that is rare today - but so important for the maturity and development of a boy into a man! The action steps that we included in those episode notes three years ago are still so good - so here they are: Action Step Take notice of those who serve you! Show appreciation to those who serve you… (special note - waiter at restaurant...tip well) Take one person and find a way to serve them… T4M guys - just a reminder that Training4Manhood is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) ministry and you can make donations either via Zelle (info@training4manhood.com) or by visiting the Training4Manhood website. 1 Peter 4:10-11
We're moving to Chapter 2 of Philippians and looking at how we can live a life worthy of the gospel of Christ in the realm of our relationships. We'll see how our JOY can spread to those around us as we fix our eyes on Christ!
On this week's episode of In The Circle, we're diving into another powerful inquiry from someone who traveled with me to one of our Recovery 2.0 retreats in England. Today's guest, Perry, asks: How can I push through my resistance to change? During our England retreat, we discussed something I call resistance training. When I mention resistance training, I'm talking about engaging in activities that naturally bring up our own resistance. I'm referring to – the voice that says, "I'll do it tomorrow." The practice of resistance training is about purposefully doing those things that challenge us, allowing us to break through that resistance and emerge stronger. In Recovery 2.0, we emphasize this training to help us become our best selves. Perry also asks me about the practices I personally use to overcome my resistance and show up fully in life. Through this episode, we'll explore the mind, body, and spirit, and discuss ways we can all set up the conditions to blow through our resistance to the things we know are good for us. This, I believe, is key to finding daily fulfillment and moving forward on what I call the path of discovery. Do you know someone who needs an attitude check? Are you nodding your head yes? Great! But first, let's check our own attitudes at the door. This is something God has been showing me throughout my day and life, when my attitude is negative or focused on complaining. He showed me through a few instances, that when I have a bad attitude or let other's bad attitudes affect me, I miss opportunities to be a blessing! Think about it, if we are to serve others with a good attitude and to do good works like Ephesians 6 tells us, then how can I do that effectively if I have a sour attitude towards what I am in the position of doing? I have to ask myself, "What can I do today to help me remove barriers that keep me out of the pit of my bad attitude and shake off others that pull me down with them? The old saying goes, "My response is my responsibility". This saying was something that shook my core and changed my attitude, during one of the times, I should have been helping the one that I loved, but instead focused on me. Then, I realized my stinking attitude had seeped into that conversation and the work I was doing. The one small step of giving myself a heart and attitude check with God was humbling and just what was needed. Turning to the Lord, changed everything! Perhaps, you have struggled like me with a bad attitude when helping others and need an encouraging word to know you are seen, appreciated, and loved! On this week's episode of In The Circle, we are truly blessed to have Linda, an elder, joining us. When I say "elder," I'm referring not just to age, but to the wisdom and humility gained over time. Linda brings us such a powerful inquiry when she asks: What does conscious recovery look like as we grow older? This deeply humbles me. It's a profound inquiry from someone with so much life experience in recovery, reminding us all that the journey continues no matter where we are.As we age and approach the last chapter of our lives, there can be uncertainty and frustration about how we can maximize the time we have left.In this episode, we explore what it means to be an elder, to age with dignity and power, and to find fulfillment every single day. This conversation is vital for anyone who wants to grow old consciously and live with purpose.Tommy Discusses:The power of living in the energy of gratitudeDealing with regret in longer-term recoveryFinding grace at every ageWhat does it mean to age with dignity and consciousness?Would you like to be a guest on the In The Circle Podcast? At Ecclesia, we believe that we are created to be open to sharing time, talents, and resources with others in love. Pastor Chris encourages us to see serving not as an obligation but rather as a life-giving joy.
On this week's episode of In The Circle, we're joined by Mariana, who brings us an impactful inquiry: How Can I Maintain Healthy Boundaries While Being of Service in Recovery? We often read in spiritual scriptures that we are meant to give without expectation. Yet, as humans in relationships, we recognize that boundaries are essential, especially in recovery. Spiritual and religious teachings often compare service to an express train for personal and spiritual growth. While giving and serving are fundamental aspects of recovery, it's important to understand that setting healthy boundaries not only prevents burnout but also allows us to continue giving sustainably.I often say that ‘service is where the action is', but what does it truly mean to be of service? How can we differentiate between serving authentically and serving in a codependent way? In this episode, we'll dive deep into what it means to be of service and explore how to help others without giving too much of yourself away. Tommy Discusses:Being of service in the present momentGiving from a place of wholeness and authenticity without losing yourselfCreating healthy boundaries What it truly means to be of serviceHelping others while letting go of the outcome Would you like to be a guest on the In The Circle Podcast? Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. John 13:1–5 (NLT) Jesus showed his love to the END because there is no END to his love. MAKE AN IMPACT We are called to be spiritual CONTRIBUTORS, not spiritual CONSUMERS. SEE a need MEET a need. BOTTOM LINE: It's IMPOSSIBLE to love Jesus and not SERVE people. THE CHALLENGE: Meet a NEED this week.

Have you ever considered what an incredible servant Jesus Christ was? Not only did He humble Himself to take on humanity, but He went beyond that and “took upon Him the form of a servant” (Phil. 2:7). In this episode, Nate and Gabe exhort us to behold Jesus' servanthood. As we deeply ponder this aspect of our Lord, may our hearts be moved to give ourselves to Him in service. As we dig into the Command of Christ to “Be a Servant”, it is key that we don't look to ourselves to fulfill it. When we try to serve in our own strength and ability we end up burnt out and worn out. But as we rely on Christ, as we take the gaze of our souls off ourselves and we place it on Him, we will experience His divine enablement to serve in a way we never could on our own.Want to go deeper in studying this command of Christ? We serve others because God served us! He laid down His life for us before we knew Him or even believed in Him. By serving the people around us, we are building an incredible relational bridge that God uses to open the door to conversations about Jesus.

As I bring The Commons with Karla to a close, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey we've shared since the podcast launched in March 2021. What began as a simple idea to highlight the stories of everyday women has blossomed into three years of exploring the beauty and complexity of our shared human experiences — connection, loss, purpose, and joy. Through these stories, I've grown, and I hope you have too. It's bittersweet to say goodbye to this chapter, but I'm filled with gratitude for the connections we've made and the lessons we've learned together. Although this is the end of the podcast, it's not the end of our journey. I'll continue living purposefully and invite you to do the same. Let's stay connected as we move forward, cherishing the moments and relationships that make life truly meaningful. Thank you for being part of this beautiful era with me.
