On Valentine's Day of this year, James Felice of Hudson Valley rock mainstay, The Felice Brothers, released his debut solo album “The Little Ones” via Conor Oberst's Million Stars Records. The songs on the record are anything but little. Reflective distress echoes through lessons sought and found in the lyrics. Realizations bloom in the characters singing their choruses. The melodies and instrumentation push the sometimes timid narrators - all in James' voice - to keep sharing their stories until the end of the tune.James Felice joined us at The Linda.
He Will AnswerPsalm 20:6-7 “Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand. Some boast of chariots, and some of horses; but we boast of the name of the Lord our God.”I am increasingly realizing that this is hard for many of us. I know a lot of people who have lost loved ones lately. They prayed for their loved ones, they had expectant faith, they asked in Jesus' name, and yet their loved one still died. Has this happened to you, too? I was telling a friend that I would pray for her, and she said that it didn't work for her friend who died, so why would it work for her? She is not the only one who feels this way.I also had another friend who said she almost felt like she wanted to tell people to stop praying for her because she felt like things got worse every time someone prayed for her. She is not alone either. God is a mystery to us. We don't understand why He does the things He does. We don't understand why He allows the things He allows. There are some very specific things in the Bible that tell us how to pray and even what will happen when we do. For instance, John 14:12-14 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.”When I read this, I think that anything I ask, “In the name of Jesus,” will be done. Jesus healed people when He was on Earth. So, when I read this, and it says that I will do the works that Jesus did, and even greater works than that, I believe that if I ask in Jesus' name, then God is going to heal the person I am praying for. Yet, sometimes that doesn't happen. Sometimes the person I am praying with and praying for still dies. This can be hard to accept and hard to understand.I am very much a follow-the-rules, follow-the-recipe, follow-the-directions kind of person. I like to do things correctly, even if there isn't one correct way. I don't like it when my mom tells me to put a little of this or a little of that into the recipe. I want to know exactly how much to put into it. I didn't like it in my Dance Club when they would tell us to improvise for these next eight beats. I wanted someone else to tell me what to do. Our God is so good, and He has been gently working on this with me. I do better now with adding new things into my recipes or adding a little of this and a little of that. The other day, I was at a “Paint & Sip” event where we were supposed to ask the Lord what to paint and then paint it. I got the words “Heart on Fire,” so I looked it up online and found a great image to paint. However, I couldn't get it to come out the same. My painting does not look like the original, but I can see what I was trying to accomplish when I look at it.I love that the Bible tells us things like this verse from John 14, which says, “Whatever you ask in my name will be given to you.” I like it because it gives me a framework of how to ask for things. However, I also get stuck at times because when I ask for something in Jesus' name and it doesn't happen, I get so confused as to why. I did what you asked me to do, and it didn't work. Why not? I did what I was supposed to do, but why didn't God do what He said He would do?The truth is, I don't know. The truth is, God is so much smarter than we are. Sometimes we ask for things that won't be good for us, or won't be good for our loved ones. God knows the bigger plan. He knows better than we do what we need and what our loved ones need. For instance, we might not be ready for our loved one to leave us, but maybe they are ready. Maybe they are tired of fighting this disease. Maybe there are worse things coming for them down the road, and God is preventing them from that suffering. Maybe they are just holding on for us.My grandfather had a stroke at a young age. He was bedridden for a long time. He was alive, but I don't think he could even talk. On Valentine's Day 1996, my grandmother told my grandfather how much she loved him. Then she told him that he didn't have to hold on for her. She told him that she would be ok and that if he wanted to stop fighting, it was ok. My grandpa died that day.Today's verse says, “Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand. Some boast of chariots, and some of horses; but we boast of the name of the Lord our God.” I think what the Lord wants to tell us today is that He does answer our prayers. He doesn't always do it in the way we want him to, and so sometimes we can miss the fact that He has answered our prayers. When we wish someone to be healed and they die anyway, this doesn't look like an answer to prayers. However, there is no illness in heaven. So, even though they were not healed this side of heaven, they were definitely healed. They are no longer in pain, and they are in a better place.I know that doesn't make it easier on our end. We are still left with the pain. We are left with the loss of a loved one. We are lonely. I think God wants us to know today that you are not alone in this grieving process. He is right there with you. This verse reminds us that even though at times we could turn to other things for the answers to our problems, God is the one true God, and He is the answer to all of our problems. He will help us, and He will answer from His holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening today. Lord, we love you and we thank you for all the answers to our prayers. We are sorry that we get so angry and confused when you don't answer our prayers like we want you to. Please help us to see things through your eyes. Please help us to trust in you and your ways, even when we don't understand them. Please give us more and more understanding of your ways, Lord. Please be there to strengthen us when our prayers are not answered the way we thought they would be. We love you and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. This month's theme for mentoring is “How Long, Lord?” It is perfect for anyone who feels they have been waiting for a long time for answers to their prayers. This month, we will learn some things we can do while we are waiting for the answers to our prayers, and we will gain a deeper understanding of why we need to wait sometimes. I hope you will join us! I look forward to seeing you here tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! On Valentine's Day in 1945, Charles Walton was found dead by a hedgerow on the Firs Farm in Warwickshire, England. He had been beaten over the head, his throat cut with his own slash hook and pinned to the ground by the neck with a pitchfork. Was the murderer one of the locals, possibly even a friend, or was the murder a ritualistic form of witchcraft, reflecting a witches murder in 1875? Tonight we'll try and discover who killed Charles Walton.
On Valentine's Day, 1981, 48 young people died tragically in a fire that broke out in the Stardust nightclub in North Dublin. Emergency exits were blocked, the furnishings were highly flammable and the fire spread rapidly.Selina McDermott lost 3 of her siblings in the tragedy, Willie, George and Marcella. Her family was never the same again. She told us about her memories of that night, the chaos that broke out, and the long lasting impact it had on her and her community. The first investigation into the fire found that the cause of the fire was probable arson, a blow to the grieving families who felt the blame was being placed on the victims themselves. For years, the families and survivors have campaigned to get the truth. Last April, the families' efforts resulted in a new finding that all 48 young people who died in the Stardust were unlawfully killed. Selina told us where they got the strength to keep fighting and what this result means for them.Proudly sponsored by FBT Gyms.
On Valentine's Day, Eric Anderson showed up for work at Indiana Dunes National Park. Hours later, he learned by email (from someone he didn't know) that he had been fired. Anderson is one of the many thousands of federal employees blindsided by mass layoffs orchestrated by the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, led by tech billionaire Elon Musk. Officials claim the cuts are saving taxpayers millions, but critics warn they're gutting essential services and putting public safety at risk. As legal battles unfold and DOGE continues these reductions, the question remains: Is this about efficiency, or is something bigger at play? On Valentine's Day 4,400 Public Land workers were abruptly and illegally terminated from their positions and since then, news of executive orders geared to threaten and exploit our public lands for their natural resources have been flooding headlines. To better understand the gravity of this situation and to hear straight from those most directly effected we are joined by Yosemite and Devils Postpile Ranger Alex Wild, Liz Crandall a field ranger in Deschutes National Forest, and Morgan Smith a Biological Science Technician for the US Forest Service. All three were recently terminated from their jobs due to the recent federal budget cuts. They share their love of the outdoors, explain the importance of their jobs and speak to the dangerous repercussions our public lands will experience as a result of these terminations and resulting extreme staffing shortages. 50 years ago, a 20-something Peter Weir decided to hypnotise us away from the possibility of solutions when he adapted Joan Lindsay's novel into the Australian gothic horror classic, Picnic at Hanging Rock. On Valentine's day in 1900, the students from Miss Appleyard's depart their fortress-like school in rural Victoria for a lazy afternoon at the base of Hanging Rock. The hot wind blows in, the clocks stop, the girls peel off their stockings and, as the ants descend on the remains of the picnic, four girls ascend the rock, along with one of their teachers. Only one of them returns. As people hear of the mysterious disappearances, search parties break out, but only one girl is recovered, missing her corset and her memory of what happened at Hanging Rock. As are we all. On Valentine's Day, Earl Ingram extends an invitation to his friend Sandy Williams to engage in a discussion regarding the unexpected surge in egg prices, which have now surpassed the price of an entire chicken. Their dialogue transitions to a critique of political figures such as J.D. Vance and Pete Hegseth, who are perceived as lacking qualifications. Dodge expresses strong dissatisfaction with the education system, emphasizing the detrimental effects of funding cuts and the elimination of programs that adversely impact citizens, while also condemning the buyout options available for government positions. Republicans interpret the expansion of government as a rationale for tax reforms that primarily benefit the affluent. Sandy points out that school choice is increasingly becoming a viable alternative within the education system. Furthermore, "Project 2025" is mentioned, alongside the significant influence Elon Musk holds in obtaining government contracts, despite his absence of pertinent experience and dependence on financial resources. The legal system has failed to provide assistance to the populace. The Earl Ingram Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 8-10 am across the state. In January 2020, the two had a chance meeting at a public event that Amie was attending and Gareth was working at. This meeting caused Gareth to fly into a rage which terrified Amie. On Valentine's Day 2020, Amie attended a burlesque show with her friends. Gareth waited until she left and he broke into her home. He lay in her bed and waited for. When Amie arrived home, she was brutally attacked by Gareth and he threw her off a balcony, leaving her to die. This week, every good team needs a greaseman, and boy do we have one, as we're putting a team together to knock down three Vegas casinos in one night, in a movie that is just as clever and funny as it is slick and stylish. It's 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh, written by Ted Griffin, and starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Carl Reiner, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin and Topher Grace. Soderbergh is clearly having a ball bringing this material to life with an all-star cast of capital-M capital-S Movie Stars, but the movie is more understated than its more dazzling sequels, and never loses sight of the human heart at its core that makes all the action matter in the first place. It's a beautiful film, visually and emotionally, and feels like the kind of adult-oriented entertainment that Hollywood seems hard-pressed to cook up these day. Plus: J Mo's been to theatre to see Soderbergh's first of two new entries in 2025, and is back with a theatrical field report on the POV ghost story Presence. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our conversation, Ocean's Eleven is currently streaming on Crave in Canada and Max in the United States. Other works discussed on this episode include Heartburn, Longlegs, Seven, The Silence of the Lambs, Black Bag, Kimi, Gladiator II, Jaws, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Michael Clayton, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part I, Hulk, Saturday Night, Man of Steel, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Go, Marie Antoinette, The Last Showgirl, Ocean's 12, Ocean's 13, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Fight Club, The Long Goodbye and countless more. Next week, we're kicking off another February of wall-to-wall rom-coms as Love Month kicks off with Steve Martin's L.A. Story, which is currently free to stream in Canada at the time of publication of the CTV app. On Valentine's Day, it's Nicolas Cage and Cher in Moonstruck, followed by Jerry Maguire on the 21st. Episode 128 Terri McAdams Part 1 of 2 Terri McAdams seemed to have a promising future ahead of her: a college degree, an upcoming wedding, and the love and support of friends, family, and fiancé. But Terri was conflicted about her personal life, and was also deeply afraid. Someone was murdering young women in the Fort Worth, Texas area – women who were a lot like Terri. On Valentine's Day eve in 1985, Terri was next. Her shockingly brutal murder and the theft of her engagement ring catapulted the Arlington PD into a massive, widespread and ultimately fruitless murder investigation. Time and again, Terri's case was reexamined, and put aside, until at long last, forensic genealogy linked her case to a murder/suicide that had occurred just months after Terri's death. In this episode, Tracey and Kelsey discuss these three anonymous questions:1) I didn't start having good sex until my early 30s, and within a few months of dating I started squirting. Now, it's a ridiculous amount. I can't have sex anywhere except on a waterproof mattress cover or blanket. Sometimes just kissing my partner makes me gush slightly which can be uncomfortable if I can't immediately change underwear. We were hooking up in the kitchen the other day and I made a decent size puddle on the floor. Is there a way to lessen the amount of gushing or turn it off? 2) On Valentine's Day, I gave my wife a gift—a clitoral suction toy. She enjoyed it so much that every time we have sex, she uses it. At first, I enjoyed it too (and my hands didn't get as tired), but now I'm starting to worry. Will I become less attractive to her? Will we ever have sex without toys? Is sex with me boring or not as pleasurable? How should I deal with this?3) I'm a married man in a loving relationship and enjoying great sex with my wife. Over time, I've realized that I'm also attracted to men, though I've never fallen in love with one. I've been exploring my sexuality privately, but I'm unsure how to navigate this while being committed to my marriage. I'm still very attracted to my wife and don't want to lie to her, but I also want to keep our marriage alive. Do you know anyone else who has been in a similar situation? How did they approach it, and what advice do you have for exploring bisexuality in a way that respects your partner and relationship? To have Tracey and Kelsey discuss YOUR secret sex question, enter it anonymously at https://bit.ly/3C4AelUWant a copy of Tracey's book, Great Sex Starts at 50? Nothing but an oversized white dress shirt. By Fugman. Listen to the ► Podcast at Connected. I have always thought that a woman dressed in nothing but a man's dress shirt was extremely sexy. I have always had fantasized about coming home, and seeing my wife in just one of my dress shirts, but I never told anyone of it because I thought that they would think it as silly. So I kept the thought to myself and just resigned myself to the fact that it would never happen. On Valentine's Day, I arrived home and I could not locate my wife, I went to the kitchen, bathroom, living room and even the bedroom calling out to my wife, no answer. I went into my office to drop off some work things and then I was going to call her cell phone from my office. When I opened the door, my wife was sitting on the top of my desk wearing only my good dress shirt unbuttoned all the way down and my tie. She looked absolutely stunning, her long brown hair flowed over her shoulders and hung down just right making her look so sexy. The only words she spoke were “Happy Valentine's Day, I love you!” I could barely speak but I manage to muster an “I love you” back. Carey looked incredible, I just couldn't get over the fact that I had never told her about this but she just happened to fulfill my fantasy without even knowing about it. “How did you know that this was my fantasy?” I asked her. Carey told me, “I didn't know, but I had an idea that you would find this sexy.” I smiled and said “I find it incredibly sexy, I think you are incredibly sexy, I want you so bad right now.” “Are you sure you are not mad at me for wearing your clothes, I know it is the last clean shirt that you have until we do laundry?” “How could I be mad at you, when you look so sexy? Besides I can still wear it tomorrow, I will just never look as good as you do in it.” She motioned me to come over, I couldn't wait to get closer to her, I had to kiss her, touch her, hold her, and make love to her. We shared a very passionate kiss together, she looked up at me with those gorgeous eyes and I was lost in the moment, I couldn't think about anything but holding her and kissing her. Our passion was getting more and more intense, her hands started to unbutton my dress shirt. When she finished unbuttoning my shirt she told me that she wanted to see if I looked as sexy as she did with my shirt unbuttoned. I had to laugh, “I don't think anybody could look as sexy as you do right now.” “Right answer,” she said as she smiled and removed her tie. Her shirt fell open a little more and I could see that she was not wearing anything underneath. She reached out to me once again, and drew me close and kissed me once again very passionately. I couldn't resist placing my hands inside of her shirt and slowly caressing her. I felt her tense under my gentle touch and her breathing started to get more shallow. My hands started to travel from her stomach to her side, up closer to her breasts and then finally to her nipples. I could tell that she was enjoying my hands traveling around her body. The passion in her kiss intensified and her hands started to work on the belt buckle on my pants. I slid my hand down her stomach and let it rest on her upper thigh, I slowly moved my hands higher, closer to that spot that she wants me to go. When I was only an inch away from that spot, I could feel the heat from her, I could tell that she couldn't wait for me to continue. The feel of her soft inner thighs, the warmth between her legs, it was all begging me to continue. She broke away from my kiss and I felt her hands unzip and pull down my pants, dropping my underwear at the same time. She grazed against my hardness but moved away, “when you touch me, I will touch you.” I slid my hand closer and closer to her, every inch that my hands traveled, her hands moved just as far. When I could feel the tiny hairs above I slid my hands lower and felt the warmth and the moisture from her most intimate of places. When my hand slid between her thighs, I felt her hands grab a hold of my erection and start sliding up and down on it. She looked at me and smiled and said, “the more you do, the more I do.” My fingers dove inside of her , my thumb tracing the outline of her lower lips, as my fingers continued entering her. Her grip tightened on my hardness as she continued to slid her hand up and down. I could feel her breath get deeper and deeper as my fingers explored her inside, whenever my pace intensified, hers did as well. I could feel her getting wetter, getting more excited as I continued to play deep inside of her, I knew she was getting closer and closer to her orgasm. Her hands slid up and down faster and faster, I was getting harder and harder, I could barely breathe, the smells, the feelings, the excitement. I don't know what made me think of it, but I had stopped and removed her shirt, “I don't want to get anything on it, I do have to wear it tomorrow.” She laughed and slid my shirt off of her shoulders and exposed herself completely to me. At that point, I cleared my desk and laid her down on the cold wooden top. I moved her legs up so that her feet were also touching the top of the desk, she was now open to me. I kissed my way down her legs moving closer and closer, I could see my wife was getting more and more out of breath. I could smell her excitement, I could taste her wetness, I reached out with my tongue and she screamed out in orgasm. I gave her almost a whole second to recover before I started to flick my tongue up and down sliding between her lips. My tongue slid up and down, taking my time when I reach the top of her lips, where that little piece of skin is, I concentrated on that for a few moments before I moved back down and poked my tongue inside of her. Her breathing continued to intensify, I knew she was getting close to having another climax. I took my mouth away from her, pulled her down the desk until her legs were dangling off the desk, I slowly moved towards her, and playfully touched her lips with my erection. I didn't slid inside of her, just moved myself up and down until I was coated in her juices. She begged me to slid inside of her, “I need you baby, please enter me; Now” I couldn't disobey her, I slowly entered into her as far as I could go, it seemed to take forever until I was buried deep within her. Once I was all of the way inside of her, I slid out a little ways and then right back in, I would slid out a little more and then right back in. Each time, I would come out a little further before driving back inside of her. Every thrust in was moving quicker and quicker, every time I slid myself out, was slower and slower. I kept up this slow but agonizing pace until I was almost pulling out of her all of the way before I would drive back inside of her with a gasp from her and a grunt from me. I continued to drive her crazy, she was getting closer and closer, her sharp breathing made her breasts rise and fall, her nipples like little ice caps on top of the fleshy mountains. Her hair was all over her face, her hands gripping the side of the desk. I continued to drive myself deep within her until I knew that she was almost ready for another climax, and then I did the unthinkable to her, I stopped moving inside of her. I slid down her legs and planted my tongue deep inside of her. Carey gasped and I moved back up her legs and slid my erection back into her. I moved in and out of her in slow sharp thrusts. I knew she was getting close again and I stopped, moved my way down her body and slid my tongue inside of her one more time. I licked her furiously for a moment and then slid back up her body and back inside of her, this time she grabbed a hold of my hips and forced me to finish her off. I knew that she was almost there, so I continued and quickened the pace. I could feel her muscles gripping me inside encouraging me to finish inside of her. She screamed again and I felt the strongest muscles inside of her that I have ever felt before. She was milking me, waiting for me to explode inside of her, I couldn't hold back any longer as I gave one last thrust inside of her. We were both breathing heavy, we were both sweaty, but we hugged each other and shared another passionate kiss. “I love you Carey, Happy Valentine's Day.” By Fugman for Tumblr.

Ralph welcomes Professor Stephanie Luce of the City University of New York, who has co-authored “Practical Radicals: Seven Strategies to Change the World,” and together they outline the challenges and the strategies that face underdogs trying to change the system. Plus, our resident constitutional scholar, Bruce Fein, joins us to discuss the death of Russian dissident, Alexei Navalny.Stephanie Luce is Professor of Labor Studies at the School of Labor and Urban Studies, and Professor of Sociology at the Graduate Center at City University of New York. Professor Luce is best known for her research on living wage campaigns and movements. She is the author of Fighting for a Living Wage and co-author of The Living Wage: Building a Fair Economy, and The Measure of Fairness. Her latest book, co-authored with Deepak Bhargava, is Practical Radicals: Seven Strategies to Change the World. We find it's actually hard to get people to imagine really liberatory worlds because we're so dominated by corporate culture and consumer culture and undemocratic functioning that it is hard to imagine a world that's different. So even just getting people to dream of a different possibility is a good start, and then we have to think about what kind of power it's going to take to make those changes.Stephanie LuceA lot of people critique [collective care as a strategy]. They think it's just about taking care of one another as part of life—that's what we do. We're arguing it can also be strategic because when done well, it enables people to engage in a fight in the long term. You can't go on strike if you don't have someone to watch your children, or if you don't have a strike fund. You can't risk arrest if you don't know if you have bail. So collective care is a way of taking care of one another, doing the things that enable us to take risks and to know people have our back. And that helps us up our militancy and strategy because we can take bigger risks and build the capacity for other kinds of struggle.Stephanie LuceThere's such a thing as the civic personality that is a huge Achilles' heel of the drive to train people civically. You can train people civically… but if they don't have a civic personality, if they don't have fire in their bellies, so to speak, emotional intelligence, if they don't have a framework of a public philosophy, if they don't have a capacity for resilience to learn from their last mistakes, if they haven't controlled their ego so they can give credit to other people in their circle and set an example and motivate, if they're not willing to read and stay up to date with what's going on in their fields and in the area of their opponents, it doesn't matter how many skills they learn from our efforts.Ralph NaderBruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar and an expert on international law. Mr. Fein was Associate Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and he is the author of Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy, and American Empire: Before the Fall.[Alexei Navalny] was free. He knew he could have left [Russia]. He probably could have won a Nobel Peace Prize. He returned anyway. A diplomatic row is brewing between Israel and Brazil. On Sunday, leftist Brazilian President Lula compared Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza to Hitler's genocide of the Jews during an address to the African Union. In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz declared that until he retracts his comments, Lula is “persona non grata in Israel.” Yet Lula does not intend to retract these comments, and has instead recalled the Brazilian ambassador to Israel. The Israeli campaign against Gaza has forced nearly all of its over 2 million inhabitants from their homes. This from Reuters.2. On Monday, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights issued a report alleging “credible allegations of egregious human rights violations to which Palestinian women and girls continue to be subjected in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.” According to this report, “Palestinian women and girls in detention have…been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers. At least two female Palestinian detainees were reportedly raped while others were reportedly threatened with rape and sexual violence…photos of female detainees in degrading circumstances were also reportedly taken by the Israeli army and uploaded online.” Experts say “Taken together, these alleged acts may constitute grave violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, and amount to serious crimes under international criminal law that could be prosecuted under the Rome Statute.”3. The anti-Biden “uncommitted” protest vote campaign in Michigan continues to pick up steam. On Valentine's Day, the New York Times reported that Our Revolution – the Bernie Sanders legacy political operation – has endorsed the campaign. Our Revolution joins other prominent new boosters, such as Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and former Representative Andy Levin. In her video endorsing the campaign, Tlaib says “It is important…not only to march against the genocide, not only make sure we're calling our members of Congress … it is also important to create a voting bloc, something that is a bullhorn to say enough is enough.”4. On February 15th, the African Methodist Episcopal, or AME Church Council of Bishops issued a statement calling for the “Immediate Withdrawal of Financial Support from Israel.” This major step from a prominent Black faith group is an indication that the genocidal Israeli campaign in Gaza is alienating significant factions of the Democratic Party coalition. The statement reads “Since 1954, Israel has shown a willful disregard for the human dignity of Palestinians. Since October 7, 2023, in retaliation for the brutal murder of 1139 Israeli citizens by Hamas, Israel has murdered over 28,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. The United States is supporting this mass genocide. Thismust not be allowed to continue. There must be an immediate and permanent ceasefire between these two communities. We call for a solution to be negotiated by genuine representatives of the people of Israel and Palestine and condemn all violence as a means of resolving this conflict. Surely there is a grassroots solution that affirms the dignity and humanity of all God's people in Palestine and Israel. The tools of empire, colonialism, and domination will not solve the problems they created. The cycle of violence between historically wounded peoples will not be dissolved by the creation of more wounds or through weapons of war. We remain in solidarity with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, a Palestinian Jew, and the Prince of Peace. We weep for the suffering being inflicted upon the children of God in the Holy Land and all the earth. We cry for freedom and implore those who say they love God to demonstrate a tangible love for their neighbors. We will travail in prayer and pursue justice until freedom reigns for all.”5. Semafor reports that Pro-Israel groups are engaging in targeted harassment of mainstream American journalists perceived as too critical of Israel. This story focuses on Washington Post foreign correspondent Lousia Loveluck, and documents how SKDK – a D.C. PR firm close to the Biden administration – has dug into Loveluck's background, including unrelated protests she attended before becoming a journalist. While the Washington Post defended Loveluck's reporting, they did not defend her personally – setting a dangerous precedent for intimidation of American journalists by Israel-aligned groups.6. The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that “An embryo created through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) is a child protected by Alabama's wrongful death act and the Alabama Constitution.” Specifically, the court ruled that the “parents of frozen embryos killed at an IVF clinic when an intruder tampered with an IVF freezer may proceed with a wrongful death lawsuit against the clinic for alleged negligence.” Yet in a broader sense, this means that IVF clinics will be legally liable for the death of embryos fertilized through IVF – likely spelling the end of IVF in the state. This from 1819 News.7. A stunning report from the Center for Climate Integrity, published in the Guardian, reveals that the plastics industry has deliberately misled the public for years, claiming that their products are continuously and sustainably recyclable – all the while knowing that “recycling cannot be considered a permanent solid waste solution [to plastics], as it merely prolongs the time until an item is disposed of”. Richard Wiles, president of the Center for Climate Integrity puts it simply: “The companies lied…It's time to hold them accountable for the damage they've caused.”8. REI, the company given constant adulation by the liberal press, is union busting. From the REI Union SoHo, “On Feb 15, REI announced it will be withholding annual merit pay increases from our store and all unionized [REI] stores across the Co-op.” Unionized workers walked off the job in protest of this blatant anti-union move.9. AP reports Amazon has joined SpaceX and Trader Joe's in arguing that the National Labor Relations Board is unconstitutional. We have discussed this corporate stratagem on this show before and noted that more corporations, particularly those facing unionization efforts, were likely to adopt this legal argument. Seth Goldstein, a lawyer representing the Amazon Labor Union and Trader Joe's United, said “Since [these companies] can't defeat successful union organizing, they now want to just destroy the whole process.”10. Finally, in some positive labor news, Michigan has become the first state in 60 years to overturn its so-called “right to work” law, the Nation reports. Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron Bieber is quoted saying “This moment has been decades in the making…By standing up and taking their power back, at the ballot box and in the workplace, workers have made it clear Michigan is and always will be the beating heart of the modern American labor movement.” Beyond overturning right to work, Michigan has also “restored prevailing-wage protections for construction workers, expanded collective bargaining rights for public school employees, and restored organizing rights for graduate student research assistants at the state's public colleges and universities.”This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. On Valentine's Day, I went live on Instagram for a mini-workshop and healing experience to help you deepen your self-love journey! We talked about:
On Valentine's Day 2013, a truly devastating tragedy unfolded: Reeva Steenkamp, a 29-year-old South African former model, TV personality, and law graduate, adored for her vibrant spirit, was brutally gunned down in her boyfriend's bathroom. The scene that law enforcement encountered was one of stark and shocking contrast: beside Reeva's bloodied and broken form stood none other than global icon Oscar Pistorius, the internationally acclaimed Olympic and Paralympic sprinter. At 27-years-old, Pistorius, an athlete with both legs amputated below the knee, earned global acclaim as "The Blade Runner." His extraordinary athleticism and determination defied the odds and inspired millions worldwide. Yet, in this harrowing moment, Pistorius transformed in the public eye from a celebrated figure to a cold-blooded killer, ominously dubbed "The Blade Gunner." The case sent shockwaves around the world as people grappled with the horrifying descent of a beloved hero into an infamous murderer. On Valentine's Day of 1961, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York had to, for the very first time, announce they were housing a fake. Three fakes, actually. After nearly three decades as a prized exhibit, their Etruscan Terracotta Warriors, as they'd become known, were determined to be inauthentic -- but here's the story of how and why The Met should have know that fact before they ever put them on display.
