Kevin and Zach welcome back Scott Shrader to talk digital dentistry and specifically about Medit scanners and software. Both Zach and Al are current Medit users so the episode is a great one if you're new to scanning or want to incorporate digital dentistry into your workflow even more! 3D Dentist Approach: While courses often involve scanners, 3D Dentist is largely scanner-agnostic, focusing on techniques. Importance of Training & Support: Scott emphasizes the critical role of knowledgeable support and hands-on training (like that provided by 3D Tech/3D Dentist) when integrating technology, contrasting it with less specialized support from large suppliers. Support is ongoing for products purchased through them. Medit Overview: A South Korean company celebrating 25 years (mostly lab scanners, ~7 years for intraoral). Medit's Value Proposition: No annual fees, free software, and free software upgrades are key differentiators. Medit Link Software Suite (The "Apps"): A powerful, free suite accessible even to non-Medit scanner users (importing STLs). Includes free apps like Model Builder, Crown Design, Night Guard/Bite Splint, Ortho Simulation. Newer, more powerful CAD features (AI Final Crown, Provisional, Inlays/Onlays, Bridge Design) are being introduced with a per-export fee, but the core remains free. AI Crown Design: Discussion on how AI differs from standard proposals (better morphology matching, less tweaking, potential AI margination) vs. algorithms. Practical Scanning Tips & Troubleshooting: Marking margins: Alan does, Zach doesn't – lab preferences vary. Sluggish scanning fixes: Ensure the laptop is plugged in, perform all updates (Windows, graphics drivers, Medit Link), check scanner tip condition (rated for ~100 autoclave cycles, look for degradation/spots). Technique: Dry teeth well, use the white light setting for scanning through blood, proper path/tissue capture (especially around canines). Hardware: i700 vs. i900: The i900 is smaller, lighter, has a larger scan area, multiple tip sizes, and is generally smoother, especially for full arches and scanning through blood. The i900 "Classic" brings back the physical button many users missed. Recommended Medit Apps to Explore: Model Builder & Bite Splint: Great, easy entry points for CAD, good for team delegation (requires printer for output). Ortho Simulation: Automated simulation of tooth movement. Smile Design: Powerful tool using even basic phone photos, creates a shareable before/after slider for patient communication. App Access: Apps run on the scanning computer but can be accessed remotely by logging into your Medit Link account on another computer (requires downloading case files). Integrations: Medit Link integrates with third-party software and platforms (SprintRay Cloud, Exocad, etc.). On this week's episode of The Debrief, MT's editorial team discusses Unilever's recent CEO change and how to keep driving your business forward even in unfavourable market conditions. The ousting of Hein Schumacher after little more than a year and a half in Unilever's top job seemed to many to come as a bolt from the blue. “We are gobsmacked,” was how one analyst at RBC Capital summed up the reaction among colleagues. But even in the announcement the company put out about the change there were clues as to the frustrations that had precipitated such a move. We explore the board's rationale, what the company's new chief Fernando Fernandez brings to the table, and his priorities in the short and long term.Companies that thrive, even when times are tough, “build resilience within their own internal economy”. That's the contention at the heart of business scaling strategist John Mackin's new piece for MT. Boosting your metabolism after 40 is essential for maintaining energy levels and managing weight. Here are five effective strategies to help rev up your metabolism: Incorporate Strength Training: Why it Works: As we age, muscle mass naturally declines, leading to a slower metabolism. Engaging in strength training exercises (such as lifting weights or using resistance bands) at least 2-3 times a week helps build and maintain muscle, which burns more calories at rest compared to fat. Prioritize Protein Intake: Why it Works: Consuming enough protein is crucial for preserving muscle mass and increasing metabolic rate. Aim for a source of protein with every meal; this could include lean meats, fish, dairy, legumes, and plant-based proteins. Protein also requires more energy for digestion, which can temporarily boost your metabolism. Stay Hydrated: Why it Works: Drinking enough water is vital for optimal metabolic function. Studies have shown that staying hydrated can temporarily increase your metabolic rate. Aim to drink water throughout the day, and consider starting your day with a glass of water first thing in the morning. Get Quality Sleep: Why it Works: Lack of sleep can disrupt hormonal balance, leading to decreased metabolism and increased cravings for unhealthy foods. Prioritize good sleep hygiene by establishing a regular bedtime routine, creating a restful environment, and aiming for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Incorporate High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Why it Works: HIIT workouts consist of short bursts of intense exercise followed by rest or lower-intensity periods. This type of training not only burns calories during the workout but also keeps your metabolism elevated for hours afterward. Aim to include HIIT workouts 1-2 times a week in your fitness routine. By incorporating these strategies into your daily life, you can effectively boost your metabolism and support your health and wellness goals after 40! Curious to learn more? Thanks again to all of you who have already made the leap to join us on Patreon.Material Girls is a show that aims to make sense of the zeitgeist through materialist critique* and critical theory! Each episode looks at a unique object of study (something popular now or from back in the day) and over the course of three distinct segments, Hannah and Marcelle apply their academic expertise to the topic at hand.*Materialist Critique is, at its simplest possible level, a form of cultural critique – that is, scholarly engagement with a cultural text of some kind – that is interested in modes of production, moments of reception, and the historical and ideological contexts for both. Materialist critique is really interested in the question of why a particular cultural work or practice emerged at a particular moment. It wasn't pretty. The home crowd booed their top-25 team at times as the No. 17 Fighting Irish squad got off to a sluggish start. But Notre Dame (3-1) got enough done to fend off Miami-OH (0-3), winning 28-3 after trailing early. The game had its highs--QB Riley Leonard threw a 38-yard touchdown pass and added a 50-yard touchdown rush on the ground-- and it had its lows in the form of a muffed punt by WR Jordan Faison. But, the Irish defense was able to force two turnovers and held veteran QB Brett Gabbert to 119 yards on 14/35 passing. After the game, Irish Illustrated's Tim Prister and Tim O'Malley were joined by Irish Illustrated Contributor John Brice of Football Scoop as they reviewed Notre Dame's 28-3 victory over Miami-Ohio and previewed Notre Dame's season-defining game against Louisville.
Feed me us all rat poison after No. 5 Ole Miss clinically dismantled Wake Forest, 40-6, on Saturday. The Rebels improved to 3-0 and now return home for back-to-back games, including their SEC opener against Kentucky September 28. We're more encouraged today on Talk of Champions than we were going into Wake Forest. The Rebels showed they can win ugly. And when their ugly is 40-6? And on the road and against a fellow Power 5 team for the first time this season? The defense, warts and all, still hasn't allowed a touchdown, and Ole Miss has played three games. The last time the Rebels did that? All the way back in 1961.Impressive. Ole Miss is making it look like the 2008 Egg Bowl (ie, Wesley Carroll's nightmare) every week for opposing quarterbacks.Ole Miss has never had this caliber of defense at all three levels. The Rebels have an argument for college football's best team, especially after Kentucky scared Georgia and Quinn Ewers had to exit Texas' win over UTSA. Does Ohio State have the quarterback play to match the nation's best skill group?Talk of Champions, as always, is powered by RiverLand Roofing and the Ole Miss Spirit.
