King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream. But he can't remember it. What does he do? Like any good boss in a crisis, he delegates. The king's dream-problem was about to become a nightmare for his entire staff of "magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers." Daniel wouldn't seem to have much in common with those men, but he agreed with them about one thing: No mere mortal could both recall the king's forgotten dream for him, and interpret it. If Daniel hadn't believed in The God Who Reveals, then his life - and his book - would have ended right there. From New York City, Daniel Amis, the author of “Unbreakable Love”, joins me on the podcast this week. He believes that when we focus on getting others to like the real us is what holds us back in relationships. I can relate to that view point. As a recovering nice guy, every chance I got I was seeking the approval of women. Have you ever felt that something similar was holding you back from finding lasting love? Daniel’s mission is to help as many people as possible find and create the relationship of their dreams. After years of experience coaching, he has found a few things that are common amongst his clients that prevent them from creating the love of their dreams. They are… “People love conditionally. You need unconditional love, you need unbreakable love.” The Nice Guy is your emotional tampon! He will say and do anything he can to get you to like him and often times find himself getting friend zoned! What is the difference between pickiness and having standards?! Welcome to the Better Leaders Better Schools podcast.  This is a weekly show is for ruckus makers -- What is a ruckus maker?  A leader who has found freedom from the status quo. A leader looking to escape the old routine. A leader who never, ever gives up. Up next you can hear Daniel Bauer’s wife Miriam interview him in this twist of events.  They discuss multiple facets of their relationship in this special episode. We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode here and learn more at betterleadersbetterschools.com   Daniel Bauer is the founder of Better Leaders Better Schools, a popular blog and most-downloaded podcast for leaders in education. He helps school leaders fight isolation and frustration through his leadership community, “The Mastermind,” in order to gain clarity and find solutions to their greatest challenges. Daniel is also the author of a “#1 Hot New Release" on Amazon, The Better Leaders Better Schools Roadmap, which helps educators create legendary schools.   The Good and Bad Qualities of Daniel Bauer Daniel and Miriam begin the podcast by poking fun. Miriam begins by talking about her pet peeves from Daniel’s actions. She brings up how Daniel’s idea of cleaning is similar to taking a pile of dust and spreading it around the counter evenly, and also how he drips water onto the floor every time he washes his hands. Then they move on to the good qualities, as Miriam describes their marriage as a great adventure. They have a lot in common, and that makes their relationship exciting and fun. Miriam says she loves how supportive Daniel is when things get tough. Miriam credits Daniel for taking the leap, and working hard to achieve his dreams. “You’ve been working so hard for the past few years, I’ve seen you go through the best of times and some really challenging times. You’ve stayed on course and I’m so proud of you for that.” -Miriam Bauer   Daniel’s Motivation When talking about his motivation, Daniel recalls a quote that really pushes him everyday. “Everybody wins when the leader gets better.” This provoked deep thought about Daniel’s leadership development. He felt like he was doing a decent job as a leader, but definitely wanted to improve. There are always ways to improve in anything, and Daniel was constantly finding ways to become a better leader. “If it’s true that everybody wins when the leader gets better, then it’s my duty to do as much as I could to develop myself to serve the community, because everyone would be impacted in a positive way.” -Daniel Bauer   Confidence to Take the Leap Daniel talks about where he got his confidence, and how he used that to take the leap. He says it is like double sided coin. One side has all of the fear and anxieties, and the other has the success and confidence. If you let the fear and anxieties win, the confidence and success will lose. Daniel says this analogy has allowed him to be more confident, because he doesn’t want fear and anxiety to ever win this battle. "You don’t want to get to your grave and have all these regrets and what ifs.”  – Daniel Bauer   Working Through Problems Daniel mentions how he has a much greater understanding of unconditional love with his wife. If Daniel and Miriam run into problems, they usually figure it out quickly and move on. Any differences they have are settled by the mutual trust they have with each other.  Daniel didn’t expect to find somebody that would be in his corner as much as Miriam has been. This allows him to focus on improving himself and his flaws. "If you’re not careful that neediness or affirmation that everything will be okay, that can really get in the way of intimacy, trust, and relationships.”  – Daniel Bauer   Daniel Bauer’s Resources:   The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks   Daniel Bauer’s Contact Info: Website Twitter LinkedIn Email Show Some Love BECOME A PATRON OF THE SHOW FOR AS LITTLE AS $1/MONTH DID YOU LIKE THE SHOW?  iTunes SUBSCRIBE HERE! “Electronic culture created soulless replacements for connective rituals — television supplanted tribal legends told by the fire; ‘fast food’ consumed in distraction took the place of a shared meal. We substituted matter for Mater (feminine principle), money for mother’s milk, objects for emotional bonds.”Daniel PinchbeckPhilosopher. Author. Futurist. Counter culture provocateur.Described as a mashup of James Merrill, H. P. Lovecraft, and Carlos Castaneda, I was first introduced to Daniel Pinchbeck through his rather fascinating metaphysical study of prophesy in 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl*– a book that explored humanity's precarious balance between greater self-potential and environmental disaster.Raised by Beat generation parents — his mother dated Jack Kerouac around the time On The Road exploded on the scene – Daniel’s roots in the New York counterculture movement run deep. Throughout the 1990s, Pinchbeck matured into a member of New York's literary select. He wrote for publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Rolling Stone and Harper's Bazaar. But slowly something happened. As he approached his late twenties, he describes falling into a deep spiritual crisis fueled by a frustration with the inherent shortcomings of mainstream media and a friend's sudden passing due to a heroin overdose. Despair ultimately led him to an investigation of shamanism. Embracing metaphysical belief systems, his psyche and body began to open to the mystical. His first book, Breaking Open the Head*, chronicled these experiences and observations from a first hand perspective and was heralded as the most significant on psychedelic experimentation since the work of Terence McKenna.Today, everything Mayan, shamanistic and post-modern psychedelia seems to always point to this uniquely perspicacious, probing mind. And I think it's fair to say that Daniel is considered a leading pioneer of the post-modern psychedelic movement, advocating a measured, responsible exploration of shamanistic cultural rites and the substances they employ to expand consciousness. If Daniel is anything, he is a maverick, persistently challenging social, political, economic and cultural paradigms. A man searching for answers both personal and global, his insights are both provocative and fascinating, and more often than not imbued with hope for a better (if not idealized) future world.A confession: Daniel has a prodigious intellect. I admit to being a bit intimidated. Moreover, I have no experience with psychedelics, and as a sober person in recovery it is unlikely I ever will. So I was unsure as to whether interviewing him would be a good idea or even appropriate for this show. But the opportunity arose and I couldn't imagine passing it up.I’m glad I didn’t. Much like my recent conversation with Tom Hardin, this episode marks a departure into new terrain for me. On a personal level, I found Daniel to be engaging, introspective and not surprisingly possessed with the rare ability to muse on a vastly diverse array of challenging themes. This is a fascinating — albeit at times challenging — mind-bender deep dive into Daniel's paradigm breaking vision that explores:* the raising of global consciousness;* the imperative for community building; See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
