How do you raise kids who can handle our topsy-turvy world? Not by coddling them, that's for sure. No, you want to cultivate grit in your children—the kind of resilience they'll need to absorb whatever shocks may come their way. To help with that, we've got some insights from science journalist Melinda Wenner Moyer, who's written a new book called Hello, Cruel World!: Science-Based Strategies for Raising Terrific Kids in Terrifying Times. This episode comes from a show we love called The Next Big Idea Daily. Acclaimed photographer Stacy Bass joins Zibby to discuss her deeply personal new book, LIGHTKEEPER: A Memoir Through the Lens of Love and Loss. Stacy shares the story of losing her father in a tragic seaplane accident that also claimed the lives of her cousins, and the complicated family grief that followed. She reflects on how writing—and later sharing memories of her parents and loved ones—helped her process decades of silence. Zibby and Stacy also discuss family bonds, the power of storytelling, signs from those we've lost, and how grief can transform but never truly disappear.Purchase on Bookshop: https://bit.ly/45VZc7IShare, rate, & review the podcast, and follow Zibby on Instagram @zibbyowens!JOIN ME! Steve Kornacki, chief data analyst for NBC News and NBC Sports, has been a household name — and an unintentional fashion icon — when it comes to election nights, particularly during the 2020 presidential election, when his round-the-clock analysis at the big board became must-see TV. He is a regular on “Meet the Press” and “NBC Nightly News,” while also bringing his signature data-driven approach to NBC Sports' coverage of the National Football League, March Madness, the Kentucky Derby and the Olympics. He joined NY1's Errol Louis to discuss his career and the intricacies of working with polling data, including concerns over accuracy. He also weighed in on the mayoral race in New York City, the differences in polling data between national and local elections and how the word socialism means something different today than it did decades ago.

We bring you this week's episode from Los Angeles and New York City, as we prepare for tomorrow's performance of the OCTOBER 7 play at Bowdoin College in Maine. We traveled to Israel after that terrible day and interviewed survivors, the bereaved and the heroes who saved lives, and brought their testimony to the world in the form of a verbatim play.We are nervous, but excited. It's a dangerous time to bring the truth to College Campuses. And just at the weekend there were threats against a Bowdoin College vigil organised to honor Charlie Kirk. We are ramping up security for the play- we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of attendees but the bad people who walk among us want to shut us up. They want to prevent you from hearing the truth. We are determined to bring the truth to Bowdoin and colleges across the US. It is the least we can do to honor Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated while doing God's work, bringing the truth to university campuses that preach wokeness and toxic, left-wing ideologies. We are heartbroken for his wife who has been left without a husband and their children who are now without a father. This week we talk about why Charlie Kirk was so effective and why his legacy will always continue, even in the face of danger. You can still come and support the OCTOBER 7 play at Bowdoin. If you know anyone in the area please send them the link below to register. It has been very disturbing to see the response of the many on the hateful left to Charlie's assasination. Particularly disturbing was the number of teachers and so-called educators who openly celebrated his death. We expose them all. It is shocking that they have influence on our children. Phelim also reveals why they are celebrating. He has seen it all before, growing up during the Northern Ireland troubles. You can read the truth about these people through the link below. And we tell you as journalists how to handle breaking news stories such as Charlie's murder - what to watch for and how to untangle the truth from the errors and lies. You can read Phelim's substack on the issue (linked below). As we mentioned OCTOBER 7 the play is coming to Bowdoin College in Maine tomorrow. The play is verbatim with no editorializing and no spin, presented in an American university where Hamas-sympathizing radicals have been intimidating students who don't agree with them. Please register to attend the play at October7Bowdoin.com, or by clicking the link below. We have over 600 seats to fill up and look forward to seeing you at Pickard Theater at 7:30 pm, doors open at 7:00 pm. And please remember that we are a non-profit organization so please go to unreportedstorysociety.com and give what you can so that we can continue to bring our special projects like the play, and our weekly podcast, to you. Laurie Anderson joins us live from NYC's Poster House Museum in conversation with Dr. Zia Mian (Princeton physicist & nuclear policy expert). We explore her iconic 1982 hit “O Superman” and its album Big Science—how it anticipated many of the tensions of the nuclear age and still resonates powerfully in today's disarmament debates. Together, they challenge the logic of deterrence, unpack how nuclear weapons work, and consider how networks—rather than traditional institutions—might better enact change. Also: the rifts within scientific communities, the role of “Big Science,” and more. On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Robin Steinberg — attorney, advocate, and founder of The Bronx Defenders, Still She Rises, and The Bail Project. Robin has spent her entire career fighting for justice and reimagining what public defense and true equity could look like in America. Her unwavering belief is simple but revolutionary: every person deserves dignity, humanity, and a real defense — no matter who they are or what resources they have. In 1997, Robin founded The Bronx Defenders in New York City, pioneering a holistic model of public defense that addresses not only courtroom battles, but also the housing, health, family, and immigration issues that so often shape people's cases. She went on to create Still She Rises in Oklahoma — the first public defender office in the country dedicated exclusively to representing women. Oklahoma has one of the highest incarceration rates for women, and it became the backdrop for Robin's bold vision: to provide women with holistic legal representation, recognizing that defending women means defending their families, children, and communities. Did you know that women are the fastest-growing population in jail and prison? Robin's insights into women and incarceration are both powerful and eye-opening. And in 2017, Robin launched The Bail Project, a national nonprofit that combats mass incarceration at its entry point: the cash bail system. The Bail Project provides free bail assistance and pretrial support to thousands of people each year who would otherwise remain jailed simply because they cannot afford bail — ensuring that freedom isn't determined by the size of someone's bank account. In this episode, you'll hear: ✨ Robin's journey to becoming a passionate advocate for justice; ✨ The story behind The Bronx Defenders and the holistic defense model she pioneered; ✨ Why she launched Still She Rises and how it's transforming the lives of women in Oklahoma and beyond; ✨ The devastating impact of cash bail and how The Bail Project is working to end it; ✨ Robin's insights into women and incarceration — and why they are the fastest-growing population in jail and prison; ✨ And so much more!
