Your doctor may have never asked what you eat. Not because they didn't care — but because nobody ever taught them to ask. Today on Health Talk America, Dr. Bob Martin and Dr. Adam Brockman respond to a seismic moment in American healthcare: both RFK Jr. and Dr. Oz are publicly naming a 60-year failure at the heart of our medical system — the near-total absence of nutrition from medical school training. And the chronic disease epidemic surrounding us today is the direct consequence. This is the conversation your doctor's education never made room for. It's happening now — on this show, in this moment — because you deserve the truth your fifteen-minute appointment was never designed to deliver.
Bulverde, Texas-based singer-songwriter, producer, and beverage connoisseur, Jerry David DeCicca, has been intimatley involved in music for more than two decades, tending the gardens of a creative career that has seen him both on the scene as well as behind it, working with folks such as our mutual friend Ralph E. White, Larry Jon Wilson, Bob Martin, and our main focal point for this episode of The Self Portrait Gospel Podcast, the late great Edward Crane Askew. Having met each other over a decade ago, the dynamic duo not only toured together on the release of 2013's "For The World," but have since secured a friendship that has explored melody, memory, philosophy, and the poetic production of sound. After a decade between projects, DeCicca and Askew's paths crossed again for what would soon become the legend's last breath of melodic meditation on life and death, 2026's "The Final Painting". A postumous masterpiece that echoes from the artistic afterlife, DeCicca sits down to chat with us about his personal and professional relationship with the late artist, the overall process, and approach to the album's metamorphosis from one song to another, and critical contributions from the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Eve Searls, Canaan Faulkner, Bill Callahan, William Tyler, Ryan Jewell, Dustin Laurenzi, and Fulvio Sigurta. With another single out on June 22nd, the album is set for release on the beloved Drag City on July 31st in all its gripping glory. "The Final Painting" may be Askwe's last album, but the metaphysical mist will soon clear, eventually revealing a body of work that truly stands the test of time.

Kyle Busch was 41 years old, a two-time NASCAR champion with 63 career wins, and by every visiblemeasure — a man in his prime. He didn't die on the track. He died in a hospital, within 24 hours of calling an ambulance, from pneumonia that became sepsis. Dr. Bob Martin and Dr. Adam Brockman ask the question nobody in sports media is asking: Why are we mistaking fitness for immunity — and what is that confusion costing us?
When the headlines scream “Covid 2.0” and the internet fills with déjà vu panic, most people feelpowerless. Not on this show. In this edition of Health Talk America presents The Dr. Bob Martin Show,Dr. Adam Brockman welcomes the legendary “Godfather of Natural Health,” Dr. Bob Martin, to unpack a conversation that cuts straight to the heart of modern health confusion: what happens when science becomes a stage show and truth gets filtered through politics? From the whistleblower revelations of former CIA officer James Erdman III to the unsettling Hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius, this episode connects the dots between media fear, public fatigue, and the epidemic of broken trust. Dr. Brockman and Dr. Bob explore how misinformation—and over information—can wound both democracy and biology, driving stress, inflammation, and immune collapse in a population already running on tired nerves.Dr. Bob Martin and Dr. Adam Brockman answer listener health questions

In case you haven't caught on already, All One Song host Tyler Wilcox loves talking about Neil Young. And he's always fascinated by where these free-form conversations go, whether it's deep dives into lyrical obsessions, personal history, chord progressions, Shakey lore … or some indefinable blend of all of that. This week's episode is no different! We're back in the 1990s this time around, taking a look at a song from Harvest Moon — “From Hank To Hendrix.” It's a song that has been a regular setlist inclusion ever since it first appeared in late 1991. Young usually does it solo acoustic, and it feels like a fairly straightforward statement of intent from Neil, an acknowledgment of his restless nature, his refusal to stay in the same place for too long, the joys and dangers of duality. A simple song, right? Well, probably not. Nothing is ever completely simple when it comes to Shakey. And here to plumb the depths of “From Hank To Hendrix” today is Texas-based singer-songwriter Jerry David DeCicca. Like Neil, Jerry's songs are often made out of seemingly simple materials, but the more you listen to them, the deeper they become, simplicity transforming into something wonderfully complex. For example, one of his best songs deals with the cosmic pleasure of watermelons. Jerry's albums are all awesome — if you need an entry point, go ahead and start with the most recent one, Cardiac Country from 2025, which Aquarium Drunkard writer Jennifer Kelly praised for detailing “the sweet transitory pleasures of living here on earth with an awareness of the unknowable beyond.” Jerry doesn't have a new album coming out this year, but he is also an active producer, with great records by Ed Askew, Chris Gantry, Bob Martin and more under his belt. His latest production effort is the debut album by 83-year-old living legend Frank “The Wild Jalapeño” Rodarte, entitled, naturally, The Return of the Wild Jalapeño. It's a fantastic listen, featuring tunes written by Jerry, alongside killer covers of songs by Bill Callahan and Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound. It's soulful, spiritual, strange and an album that could only have been made in Texas. But hey, back to Neil Young. Tune in to hear Jerry David DeCicca on All One Song …
Fear has always been a powerful political tool — but in today's media environment, it feels constant. Fear of crime. Fear of immigrants. Fear of losing democracy. Fear of “the other side.” Fear is everywhere. But what is all of this fear actually doing to us psychologically? And why does it work so well politically? In Episode 4 of We Vote Too, we go beyond outrage and ask a deeper question: What happens to people when fear becomes the foundation of political communication?Joining us is Bob Martin — former trial attorney during Miami's infamous Cocaine Cowboy era, now a social worker, meditation teacher, wellness professor, and host of the Wise and Happy Life Podcast. Bob brings a rare perspective that blends psychology, neuroscience, Taoist philosophy, and lived experience to unpack how fear shapes how people think, react, vote, and engage with the world around them.Together, we explore:Why fear-based messaging is so effectiveHow media and politics reinforce emotional conditioningThe psychological impact of outrage cyclesWhy anxious populations are easier to influenceHow fear shapes political identity and polarizationAnd what people can do to stay informed without being emotionally consumedThis conversation isn't about telling people what to think politically. It's about understanding the emotional machinery underneath modern politics — and how to navigate it consciously.Because fear doesn't just influence elections. It influences people.

We've all heard about meditation and why it is so important and calming. That's not new, however, I was surprised that Bob Martin could bring a new perspective to something that has been talked about too much and overhyped as much. Host of the A Wise and Happy Life Podcast, he is here to help us use meditation to help us create a wise and happy life. A former prosecutor and trial lawyer, Bob began his legal career in the 1970s as a prosecutor for Janet Reno in Miami's Cocaine Cowboy days and went on to serve in senior roles in both the public and private sectors. Parallel to his legal and business journey, Bob has been a dedicated student and teacher of meditation for over three decades. He trained under Taoist Master Hua-Ching Ni and brings a deep, integrative understanding of Eastern wisdom and Western pragmatism to his work. He has taught meditation to executives, lawyers, university students, and organizational leaders—showing them how to build inner resilience, clear perception, and mindful leadership through daily practice. You can visit Cameron online at CameronJournal.com Watch The Cameron Journal Newshour every Monday at 7 pm!Part of the SOOPcast Podcast Network

In Miami's cocaine cowboy days, Bob Martin was a high-powered lawyer defending the mob. Money flowed, power followed, but everything else—his marriage, his family, his peace—was falling apart. Then a single word from his therapist changed everything: Retreat. What started as anger and disbelief led him into the ancient world of Taoism and the teachings of a 72nd-generation Shaolin master. This episode traces how a man built on control learned to surrender, how judgment became compassion, and how forgiveness became freedom.
This is the second part of this Encore Episode from 2021 featuring a conversation with Irene Sankoff & David Hein — the dynamic writing team and married couple that created the international smash hit musical Come From Away which recently topped American Theatre magazine's list of the most produced plays in America in 2025/26. On the previous episode Irene and David related how they got hooked on musicals, and how they went from their first show based on a true story — My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding — to deciding to create a musical based on the real life events that happened in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland in the days following 9/11. They also described what it was like to attend the 10th Anniversary of the events in Gander and then begin to transform the stories they heard there into a musical during an early workshop production at The Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan College. We also explored the classic Broadway shows that influenced and inspired the writing of their book, music, and lyrics for Come From Away. If you missed part one you may want to go back and catch up on that episode before you listen to this one. Today we look at the extensive development process that CFA went through on its journey to Broadway — including a workshop in Seattle, a series of productions at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Seattle Rep, Ford's Theater in DC. and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, as well as a thrilling concert presentation in Gander where it all began. Back in 2015, I served as the Executive Producer and Artistic Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle and, as such, I had the great pleasure of co-producing that original Seattle workshop of Come From Away. This was the first time that the show's Tony award winning director Christopher Ashley and choreographer, Kelly Devine began to work on the show — and it was great fun to recall that exciting experience with Irene and David. Come From Away is the fifth musical to originate in Canada and eventually open on Broadway. The first was 1974's Rockabye Hamlet with book, music and lyrics by Cliff Jones. This rock musical adaptation of Shakespeare was originally titled Kronborg 1582 and was well received, first as a radio series on the CBC, and then at the Charlottetown Theatre Festival and on tour in Canada, before being retitled and opening on Broadway with Gower Champion as the director. It became a legendary flop and closed after 7 performances. Next, in 1980 came the intimate and engaging Billy Bishop Goes To War written by John McLachlan Gray the show featured one actor to playing18 different roles to tell the story of real life Canadian fighter pilot Billy Bishop during the first World War. This show nearly doubled the run of Rockabye Hamlet closing after 12 performances. However, over the next ten years Billy Bishop Goes To War received scores of productions at theaters all across North America. The Story Of My Life, with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill, opened on Broadway in 2009. Unfortunately, it had an even shorter run than either of the previous two Canadian shows. However, one year earlier, a group of Canadian writers finally scored a significant hit with The Drowsy Chaperone – book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison. This delightful show opened on Broadway in 2008, received Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score, and ran for 674 performances. There have been a few other Canadian writers that found success on Broadway – Galt McDermott being the most famous of them – but that was with shows that originated in the US.
