We conclude the devilish and mysterious story surrounding the disappearance of a group of women involved in a small cult run by new age author Carlos Castaneda. Not many are aware that one of the most successful New Age authors, Carlos Castaneda, lead a cult. The women that made up the inner circle of his cult were called “the witches” and five of them disappeared after Castaneda's death in 1998. In an all too familiar trope, Castaneda's mythology was built on lies, narcissism, hypocrisy, and abuse, yet the witches remain missing. Did they commit mass suicide, or are they still in control of the cult's workshops (Tensegrity) and publishing empire? With Special Guest Mariah Klapatch! A special vlog-style journey through a week in my lifeWhat if making your dreams come true wasn't about chasing—but about enjoying the present moment? In this new kind of Grounded Spirits episode, I invite you into a week of my life as I live, feel, and create in real-time. This vlog-style reflection begins in my cozy workspace, where I share thoughts on how comfort supports clarity. From there, I head to the Los Angeles River and practice deep presence with the trees, the grass, and the quiet rhythm of life around me.I explore not-doing, a concept from Carlos Castaneda's work, and how it teaches us to shift dream patterns, loosen the grip of routine, and rewrite our internal programming. Along the way, I meet small creatures, attend a grounding yoga class, and introduce Plant a Dream—a new space on the website where you can root your dreams into community soil.Later in the week, I visit the ocean, reflect on its healing power, and read from round one of my book Believe: A Journey Into Yourself. I dance with Moana (Hawaiian for “ocean”), see dolphins and sea lions, and remember just how magical life can be when we're paying attention. One of my long-held dreams comes true as I perform a hula dance at the Santa Monica Pier. I speak on the importance of nurturing our inner child—and each other's—and how community really is the village we all need. The episode closes with a stop at a local art store and a sneak peek of my soon-to-launch website, five years in the making. This episode is a love letter to dreaming with your eyes open, creating with your heart, and living with presence.✨ Come see what unfolds when you water your dreams a little each day.For all the resources + plus more: https://theornelian.com/2025/07/02/how-to-make-your-dreams-come-true/
In this episode of Grounded Spirits, we explore how to embody the Magician archetype in everyday life. The Magician is the bridge between spirit and form—between dreaming and gardening. I'll guide you through the symbolism of the Magician card, what it means to channel your willpower with intention, and how to tap into your unique gifts using the tools already within reach. We'll talk about Carlos Castaneda's work, along with, grounded manifestation, aligned action, and the magic of believing in your own power without bypassing reality. Whether you're just beginning your spiritual path or deep in your practice, this episode offers insight on how to become the active co-creator of your dreams.

Shamanism is not a Religion but a healing based on generosity. Some years ago, when I was on the Rainbow festival in Munich, I meditated on a bench… A man in an American Indian custom liked to join me.- As an introvert, I didn't feel so good, I thought he is a freak… And this man was starting to talk with me, very humble … We had common ground to save and heal the environment/world. After some time, the press was coming and taking pictures of this famous shaman. The Shamanism got misinterpreted through all kinds of Religion. The spiritual power of the Shaman should be witch-power, that is nonsense. What heals is in any case good regardless of what it is!The Shaman is going through specific rituals in trance and enters a spiritual world to heal. Mostly used are drum rhythms, dancing or drugs. For 10,000 years, the Shamanism has developed and created time-tested methods that are to 90% used by all different kind of shamanism. For instance, the Tibetan use similar shamanism methods like the Africans or American Indians. The Shaman like to cure traumas, depression, anxiety, autism, diseases caused by a lack of power, bad luck and being accused. And he cures the patients when he connects them with the patient original spiritual power and balances their energies. Without the Shaman the patient can't do that. When we read the stories from “Don Juan” written by Carlos Castaneda,- we read again and again how Don Juan (Shaman) alters the state of mind to connect Carlos with a spiritual realm. We all experience different states of our mind during the day and can go in hypnoses through a simple mp3. Through hypnosis, we can alter our history, get rid of different anxieties or change our mindset… Actually so different or unknown is not Shamanism. Still, Shamanism is much more than trance or hypnosis.A Shaman can:Alter his state of consciousness at will. Can communicate between the needs of the spiritual world and the physical world. You can't get anything for free. If the Shaman wants to heal through the spiritual world he has to give energy as exchange… A Spirit of the spiritual world can heal the patient. The healing depends on the Spirit and not of the Shaman. The Shaman is just asking the Spirit for help. We can read about the different animal powers that a Shaman can use and that we have also a specific animal power in the inside of us. It sounds weird when it helps what is bad about that?Still, I can believe in God and use shamanism as healing. What is wrong with that? I have made some shamanism rituals like the sweat lodge that was very powerful. In this conversation with Kat Mustatea we chat about her piece, BodyMouth, that is also a new instrument where a dancer's movements prompt a speech synthesizer. For an extra twist, we ponder if we could use this instrument to reverse and decode the messages behind Tai Chi or the magical gestures of Carlos Castaneda.
George Lucas was just one of literally millions of individuals inspired and touched by the writings of Carlos Castaneda in the late 60s. Carlos was an anthropology student who allegedly became a sorcerer's apprentice in search of enlightenment and transcendence. He broke the golden rule of his discipline by becoming a participant and not an observer. As time went on various scholars and writers would find flaws in his narrative. Even though he is no longer considered a shaman but a charlatan, he is still seen as the founding father of the New Age Movement.

Part 1:We talk with Laura Belin, publisher, editor, and reporter for Bleeding Hearland, in Iowa.We discuss the election results in Iowa, and how the polling prior to the election was flawed. We also discuss the effects of the election that will ensue.Part 2:We talk with Carlos Castaneda, Professor at American University in Washington, D.C., and researcher on the effects of immigrants on the US and other economies. We look at the likelihood and cost of deportation itself of migrants from the US. This will affect the US economic situation negatively, once this workforce is gone. From research, we know that immigrants are contributing a large amount of money to the US economy. We discuss how this is determined, examining not only immigrants' earnings, but also what they spend in the US. This is also a worldwide effect, due to the remittances that immigrants send home.WNHNFM.ORG productionMusic: David Rovics, "Time to Act", for Will Von Sproson

Send us a textI'm thrilled to share the latest episode of the Endless Possibilities podcast with you. This time, we dive deep into the mesmerizing world of lucid dreaming with none other than Robert Wagner, a true expert who has logged over a thousand lucid dreams and authored several influential books on the subject. Here's a sneak peek into the fascinating insights and lessons we uncovered:Robert defines lucid dreaming as the state where you become aware that you're dreaming. This awareness can lead to incredible control and exploration within your dreams.First Lucid Dream ExperienceRobert recounts his first spontaneous lucid dream at the age of 10 or 11, involving a baby Tyrannosaurus rex in a library. This surreal experience sparked his lifelong curiosity about dreams.Reigniting InterestInspired by Carlos Castaneda's "Journey to Ixtlan," Robert developed his own techniques for inducing lucid dreams during his teenage years, leading to his first consciously induced lucid dream.Techniques for Lucid DreamingThe dream environment is generated by the dreamer's mind. Experienced lucid dreamers often encounter "the void," a dark, sparkling space from which new dream scenes emerge.Recurring Dream FiguresDream figures may represent the dreamer's thoughts or ideas. Robert's experiment showed that some figures vanished when commanded to disappear, indicating a distinction between transient and substantial figures.Overcoming ChallengesConnect with Robert Wagner:Website: lucidadvice.comFree Online Magazine: luciddreamingmagazine.comUpcoming Workshop: "The Mini Worlds of Lucid Dreaming" in October 2024, featuring 14 experienced lucid dreamers.I hope you find this episode as enlightening and inspiring as I did. This episode of Conversations with Dr. Cowan and Friends is one of the most fascinating podcast episodes thus far. Katie is a "recovering radiation oncologist" who could no longer participate in conventional oncology because of some very unusual events in her life. In this episode, Katie discusses her journey out of conventional oncology with some meet-ups with the work of Carlos Castaneda among others on her way. She eventually found her way to our New Biology work and is incorporating many New Biology principles in her current consulting work. This is an episode that you won't want to miss. At times, I was moved and speechless listening to her story. W trakcie swoich ogólnych nauk don Juan dokładnie wyjaśniał mi zasady, przesłanki i ćwiczenia w sztuce śnienia. Jego nauki dzieliły się na dwie części. Pierwsza dotyczyła procedur śnienia, a druga czysto abstrakcyjnych objaśnień tych procedur."

If the idea of going on a date makes you anxious, and all you'd really rather do with your evening is stay home and play video games, well, have we got the app for you. Date Like Goblins, a new dating platform that debuted on Kickstarter this week and will launch later this year, invites you to go on dates that take place entirely inside your favorite video games. You play a few rounds of Fortnite or Final Fantasy with your date, while voice-chatting and getting to know each other. It's cute!Date Like Goblins is one of many niche, interest-specific dating platforms. There are apps for farmers, Christians, jamband fans, rope bunnies—whatever you're into. These smaller, more tailored communities can be seen as an antidote to fatigue that's caused by the over-monetized and alienating experience of the big dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge. This week, we're joined by WIRED staff writer Amanda Hoover to talk about Date Like Goblins and the other apps that have learned the cheat code for online romance.Show Notes:Read Amanda's story about Date Like Goblins. Read Lauren Goode on “Date Me” docs. Read Jason Parham on Boomers on the apps. Read all of our dating coverage.Recommendations:Amanda recommends making butter coconut bars for your next summer potluck. Lauren recommends the recent episode of The Daily from The New York Times with Taffy Brodesser-Akner telling the story about her new book. Michael recommends Trickster: The Many Lives of Carlos Castaneda, a podcast about the wild, shadowy history of the famous author and counterculture figurehead.Amanda Hoover can be found on social media @byamandahoover. Welcome back for another episode of Nick's Non-fiction with your host Nick Muniz Originally drawn to Yaqui Indian spiritual leader don Juan Matus for his knowledge of mind-altering plants, bestselling author Carlos Castaneda soon immersed himself in the sorcerer's magical world entirely. Ten years after his first encounter with the shaman, Castaneda examines his field notes and comes to understand what don Juan knew all along—that these plants are merely a means to understanding the alternative realities that one cannot fully embrace on one's own. Prior to the publishing of The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge in 1968, the role of the traditional tribal Shaman was little understood beyond the realm of anthropological research & schools of mysticism. The present integration of Shamanistic concepts within the lexicon of personal growth & alternative healing modalities would most likely not have reached its present momentum in the absence of these iconic teachings of Juan Matus to Carlos Castaneda, his often clueless protege. "We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." Although the authenticity of Castaneda's twelve book series has at times suffered academic scrutiny, the wisdom and applicable practices shared through this seminal work has left an undeniable and lasting impact on the mindscape of western culture. Today's episode follows the shamanic footsteps of Juan Matus with special guest Joel Schafer, a life long student of medicine men and women, healers, seers and practitioners of the shamanic dreaming arts. Joel was trained in many aspects of intent over the course of his apprenticeships, which he now shares as a perceptual guide for individuals seeking greater clarity, the strengthening of will, and reclaiming personal sovereignty. "All paths are the same, leading nowhere. Therefore, pick a path with heart!" This powerfully liberating process assists in the rediscovery of our innate intuitive nature, making it possible for untapped resources within our being to be accessed and utilized. The gratitude that comes from this type of discovery process has the power to transform our entire perspective and strengthen our relationship to source, so that we can be personally guided, directly, deeper into our abstract purpose. Dive into the intriguing concepts of the Plait and the Assemblage Point, both of which provide insights into the human energetic system and our perception of reality. These two seemingly different things written of by Vadim Zeland and Reality Transurfing and Carlos Castaneda. This teaching can be traced to a variety of other disciplines including yoga with the bindu chakra and to kabbalah with the middle pillar. The Plait: A unique energetic structure located at the back of the head, believed to connect us to alternative realities and life tracks. By interacting with the Plait, one might navigate and shift their life's trajectory. The Assemblage Point: An energetic focal point within our luminous energy field, introduced in shamanic traditions. Its position dictates our perception and interpretation of the world. Manipulating the Assemblage Point can lead to altered perceptions and diverse experiences of reality. Lets explore how to use the plait and move the assemblage point and what these different writings teach us about creating realities and dancing in the multiverse.
Welcome back to Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions. Here's hoping your autumnal drift toward Halloween is rolling along nicely. This week on the show, we're chatting once again with Mitch Horowitz, occult scholar, practitioner, and historian. We've had Mitch on a number of times—once a year or so for the last few years. What can we say? We just love listening to the guy riff. His latest is book is Modern Occultism: History, Theory, and Practice. A sprawling secret history in the same vein as his 2009 book Occult America (The Secret History of How Mysticism Shaped our Nation), the book explores how wisdom and philosophies gleaned from the Hermetica, gnostic gospels, Kabbalah, and other esoteric systems made its way from ancient and often fragmented pasts to profoundly inform the modern age, illuminating how it fueled secret societies and motivated renegade thinkers. Our talk? Well, it's all over the place. We discuss many of the figures who appear in the book, like the dubious but charming Carlos Castaneda, Anthroposophy founder Rudolph Steiner, and Theosophy's grand dame H.P. Blavatsky, featured here alongside figures like Aleister Crowley, Carl Jung, Anton LaVey, and Jack Parsons, the pioneering father of modern rocketry—who was also a practicing magician, one-time Marxist, and famously died at 37 in a fiery explosion. Beyond that, we get into notions of radical self-reliance via Ayn Rand and comics artist Steve Ditko, UFOs, and the necessary path of following one's own innate proclivities. Arthur Miller once said something along the lines of, “An era can be said to end when its basic illusions are exhausted.” Perhaps that's at the core of this chat: in our hyper-individualized moment, with so many of the old ways breaking down around us, how we can think about the communal and the individual in less binary or dualistic terms? Horowitz is a frequent guest on Coast to Coast AM, so think of this as one of those Transmissions episodes that leans into that feel. Transmissions is a part of the Talkhouse Podcast Network. How do you clear up your emotional baggage from the past? You mind tends to cling to emotional events and replay them, often over and over. Sometimes it does this years later. Your mind is re-firing neural pathways that have become an automatic habit. It is possible to change how these neural pathways fire. When you re-visit a memory you can alter the neural pathways that fire so you have a different experience of that memory. Most importantly, you can release the emotions associated to those events. The recapitulation process guides you through changing these memories freeing you from their trapped energy of emotions Recapitulation is a breathwork process for releasing the emotions, energy, negative thoughts and beliefs stored in memory. It is a method for freeing yourself from the emotional baggage you collected in your past. In the recapitulation process you visit emotional memories stored in your mind, discharge their energy, and build new neural pathways so your mind works in a healthier way. Popularized by Carlos Castaneda and originating from ancient toltecs, this is a sort of advanced teaching on revision. If you suffer from trauma or you are locked into past events you need to learn about recapitulation. For further information on recapitulation check this episode https://youtu.be/-U0ySYNRRhg
