The show includes SBC (Start, Bench, Cut) where they pick between Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Lillard. They also talk about whether Kyrie Irving is the best second option in the league. On today's episode, Jason gets the party started by taking Kevin Durant to task for saying that James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook are three of the most influential players of their generation. If you seriously dive into all 3 of their careers, you'll realize that they're all immensely talented but none of them are actually inspiring. If anything, they inspire young players in all the wrong ways. If KD wanted to highlight influential players of this generation, he'd bring up LeBron James and Steph Curry. Later, J-Mac explains why it's looking more and more as though the Portland Trail Blazers are drawing dead heading into the NBA Draft. They want to make a deal to keep Damian Lillard happy, but there is no realistic trade that makes them a contender. Gutting the roster for guys like Bam Adebayo or Mikal Bridges (or both) won't suddenly vault them to the top of the Western Conference. Lillard has to understand that his best path to a ring is to get traded himself, perhaps to a team like the Milwaukee Bucks. Hour 3 Gio is going to see Jordan Davis at Mohegan Sun this weekend. He's also golfing this weekend. Boomer says Gio has been accepting a lot of invites. Al has an interesting take on marathon runners. He said if you run marathons, you are covering up for some trauma you've experienced in life. He also has the same theory on people with a lot of tattoos. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Eagles moving to 8-0 with their win over the Texans last night. Rob Saleh talks about the Jets defense heading into this week's game against the Bills. The Astros beat the Phillies as Noah Syndergaard gave up a HR in his start. Hour 1: We reacted to the Kyrie Irving update from yesterday. Kyrie met with the media and did not apologize. Adam Silver was not happy. The Anti Defamation League was not happy. He was suspended by the Nets for at least five games. Kyrie eventually apologized in an Instagram post last night. Jerry starts with audio from Kyrie meeting with reporters yesterday. The Eagles beat the Texans to improve to 8-0. Jalen Hurts seems to have a ton of time to throw the football. Ray Guy passed away at 72. The Astros beat the Phillies 3-2 to take a 3-2 series lead. Boone and Cashman will meet the media later today. In the final segment of the hour, Cole Beasley tweets what looks like support for Kyrie. Gio wants to see current players commenting on this. Hour 2: The Eagles improved to 8-0 last night and we talked about their upcoming games against the Giants. They talked about Eagles GM Howie Roseman interacting with Eagles fans in Houston. The 49'ers could give the Eagles a run in the playoffs. Boomer doesn't understand the Bengals this season. He also thinks the Bears like what they see from Justin Fields and that's what we need to see from Zach Wilson. Jerry returns for an update and we wonder if Kyrie will ever play another game for the Nets. The Eagles improved to 8-0 with their win over the Texans. Lovie Smith was impressed by Jalen Hurts. Zach Wilson says they can hang with the Bills. Gio says all eyes on Zach this weekend. The Astros beat the Phillies to take a 3-2 World Series lead as they head back to Houston. Cashman and Boone will meet the media today at noon. The Rangers lost to the Bruins last night. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Boomer's power rankings and he has the Giants in the middle, not upper echelon. Gio throws some other teams at Boomer to see if they are in the top third of the league. Hour 3: Gio is going to see Jordan Davis at Mohegan Sun this weekend. We also talked about Kyrie and Gio said if KD supports Kyrie coming back, he'll be back. If KD doesn't support it, Kyrie is done. Hour 4: Cashman and Boone will meet the media today, presumably to announce that they will both be back. What could Cashman say today that would make fans happy that he's returning? Gio has some ideas. Jerry returns for an update but first we talk about C-Lo and Gio both going to Mohegan Sun for the Jordan Davis concert this weekend. Is Steve Cohen colluding with the Yankees on the Aaron Judge situation? The Astros beat the Phillies in game five to take a 3-2 series lead. The Eagles improve to 8-0 by beating the Texans. The Bruins beat the Rangers and we hear some play by play. In the final segment of the week, our NFL Picks starring Yussef!
With a week to chew on it, we look at some of the trends augured by the Rudy Gobert trade. It looks like the KD saga is going to continue for some time. Why is that, and how long can the rest of the league wait to conduct their business? If KD's trade value is lower, what can really be done to get players to “honor” their contracts? We also discuss Donovan Mitchell destinations and go through to see how many teams really would be interested in him. On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by heaping major praise on Oklahoma City Thunder rookie big man Chet Holmgren following his Summer League debut. Holmgren looked as good as advertised, and he has to be the first sign of real optimism for Thunder fans since Kevin Durant left town back in 2016. Speaking of KD, with reports coming out now that the Brooklyn Nets are willing to wait things out on any potential Durant trade until they get the massive haul they're looking for, what are the chances that they run it back next season? If KD, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons are healthy and engaged, they have one of the best trios in the Eastern Conference. What's more, Brooklyn queitly boasts one of the deepest rosters in all of basketball when you factor in guys like Seth Curry, Joe Harris, Royce O'Neale and TJ Warren. Chances are this team ultimately gets broken up, but you have to admit it would be wild to see them run it back for one Last Dance. Later, The Athletic Nets beat writer Alex Schiffer swings by to discuss how difficulty it's going to be to put together a Durant trade that makes sense for all parties, Kyrie's general lack of team success since he left Cleveland, how the infamous Nets Big 3 would have fared if they actually stuck together, and much more! On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G share their thoughts on Kevin Durant's legendary performance in the Brooklyn Nets' Game 5 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. It was arguably the greatest game KD has ever played (49 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in 48 minutes), and it came in the most important game of the Nets' season. It was reminiscent of LeBron James' Game 1 performance against the Golden State Warriors in the 2018 NBA Finals - except Durant's team actually won the game. With James Harden clearly hobbled by his hamstring injury, and every Nets player outside of Jeff Green bricking outside shots, KD had to put Brooklyn on his back in the second half (30 points) and will his team to victory. If KD wasn't already regarded as the Best Player in the World, good luck arguing against it now after last night. Now, you never want to overreact to one game, and It's probably too soon to even have this conversation, but is it fair to call KD a top-15 player in NBA history? Could you even argue that he's in the top-10? In the losing locker room, it's hard not to place the blame squarely at the feet of Giannis Antetokounmpo and head coach Mike Budenholzer. After going up big in the first half, the Bucks offense stalled in the second. What's worse, the Bucks did absolutely nothing defensively to slow down Durant. All that being said, Jason says he's STILL picking the Bucks to win this series for two reasons: 1) Harden is clearly hobbled and should get attacked relentlessly over the next two games, and 2) What are the odds that Durant is able to put together another legendary performance like that?
