What to listen for:“At the end of the day, taking care of our dogs is everyone's job.”Our hosts, Robin Greubel and Stacy Barnett, talk with Joy Brenner of K9 Medic about looking at canine first aid not just from the perspective of flashy trauma response, but that of the quiet, daily work of truly knowing your dog.Joy, who began in human wilderness and tactical medicine, built K9 Medic to teach handlers, medics, and even surgeons pre-hospital care tailored to real field conditions.High-fidelity mannequins like K9 Hero and Diesel train teams on military-identified killers such as tension pneumothorax, but Joy repeatedly returns to the bigger truth: heat, not bullets or dramatic wounds, is the top preventable cause of death for every dog, whether tactical, SAR, sport, or pet.Her Handler 2.0 program trains handlers in “dog speak”: reading baselines, scaling panting, tracking work/rest cycles, and spotting when a dog is no longer compensating. They bust old myths (alcohol pads, ice-pack vasoconstriction fears, over-cooling shock) and stress rapid cooling to skin level while stopping just above normal, so temperature momentum carries the dog safely home.Structured observation prevents emergencies, improves performance, and turns both handlers and medics into better advocates, because taking care of our dogs is everyone's job! Podcast: Industrial Cybersecurity InsiderEpisode: The Phishing Attack That Could Have Shut Down a Plant FloorPub date: 2026-04-29Get Podcast Transcript →powered by Listen411 - fast audio-to-text and summarizationA real-world case study shows how a single phishing email led to credential and MFA compromise, creating an urgent question for any industrial organization: Did the attacker reach the OT environment? Dino and Jim walk through how OT visibility, secure remote access controls, and continuous monitoring enabled rapid validation of what happened. They were able to prove the breach did not impact control systems and avoid an expensive, safety-driven shutdown of a continuous manufacturing process. The episode connects technical controls to executive outcomes, including resilience, duty of care, and the financial reality that “not knowing” can be as costly as an actual compromise.Chapters:(00:00:00) Why continuous manufacturing makes “abundance of caution” shutdowns so costly(00:01:00) What “OT continuous monitoring” means and why it matters in real incidents(00:03:00) Safety and connected environments: why “it can go boom” changes the stakes(00:05:00) Baselines: defining “normal” so abnormal behavior is actionable(00:07:00) Incident story: phishing email leads to credential and MFA compromise(00:09:00) What the team validated: tracing access and confirming OT was not impacted(00:10:00) Lessons from Colonial Pipeline: inability to validate can force shutdowns(00:11:00) OT reality check: Windows assets, HMIs, historians, and engineering workstations(00:13:00) Secure OT remote access: why VPN-only access is not sufficient(00:16:00) The payoff: avoided downtime, avoided product loss, and avoided disruption(00:19:00) Executive view: duty of care, liability, compliance, and protecting enterprise value(00:23:00) The “air gap” myth and why defense-in-depth is the only practical pathLinks And Resources:Want to Sponsor an episode or be a Guest? What if the reason you can’t stick to your habits has nothing to do with willpower, motivation, or discipline? What if the methods you’ve been handed were never designed for the life you’re actually living? For so many of us, habit advice arrives in the same shape: wake at five, follow the routine, repeat daily, never miss. And when it inevitably falls apart, we blame ourselves rather than the model. In this powerful episode, habits and identity coach Monica Packer reveals what’s actually getting in the way: the invisible labour you carry, the perfectionism dressed up as ambition, and the shame voice quietly running the show. The Recovering Perfectionist Monica didn’t arrive at her work through theory. She lived it. At 20, she was the stereotypical overachiever: scholarship kid, full-ride tuition, straight As, every honour society. From the outside, her life looked perfectly assembled. From the inside, she was quietly breaking down through suicidal ideation, multiple eating disorders, panic attacks, and silent nervous breakdowns. Nobody around her knew. “Because I had so long held on to that shame voice inside me,” she shares. A decade later, on the brink of turning 30, she realised she’d spent the previous ten years on the sidelines of her own life, paralysed by the same shame that once drove her achievements. That moment changed everything. Why Habit Advice Was Never Built for You “A lot of the books and the bestsellers written out there are by men,” Monica points out. “Very few of the examples use women, and very little of the research is done on women.” The issue isn’t that those methods are bad. It’s that they ignore the invisible load so many people carry: the mental gymnastics of running households, anticipating everyone’s needs, remembering everything for everyone. That load steals the time, energy, and headspace required to follow rigid habit prescriptions. Trying to fit your habits into a model designed for someone with none of that weight is, in Monica’s words, like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The Three Shifts That Change Everything Monica’s framework rests on three powerful reframes. Habits are not requirements; they’re supportive. Their only job is to serve you, not to score you. That gives you permission to choose how a habit fits your season, not the other way around. Habits are not routines; they’re small and simple. Most “habits” people set are actually eight habits stacked together. Instead, start with a baseline: the smallest, simplest version of the habit you could do on your worst day. One paragraph of journaling. Five minutes of movement. Baselines build toward the ideal, and sometimes the baseline is all you need. Habits are not rigid; they’re flexible. Redefine consistency as doing your best most of the time over time. Flexibility isn’t the enemy of consistency. It’s what makes consistency possible. Meet Sharon: The Voice in Your Head For one of Monica’s clients, the inner shame voice had become so loud that they decided to name it. They called her Sharon, a blend of “shame” and “Karen.” The act of naming created separation. Suddenly, there was the client, and there was Sharon, and they were not the same person. “Shame does not lead to sustainable change,” Monica says. “It simply does not work.” Compassion does. The work begins with awareness, then labelling, then learning to speak back to that voice as your wisest, most compassionate self. It feels foreign at first. It changes everything. The Do Something List Six months before turning 30, Monica wrote a list of 30 things she wanted to do before her birthday. Not a bucket list. Not goals. Just things she’d long wanted to try, with one rule: do them poorly. “I want to do 30 things really poorly,” she remembers. That permission to be mediocre is what cracked her life open. Writing, painting, reading and even the podcast that didn’t make the original list. It all began with one small, badly done thing. About Monica Packer Monica Packer is a writer, podcaster, and certified habits and identity coach. She hosts the top-rated About Progress podcast and has guided thousands of women toward sustainable growth through her progress-over-perfection philosophy. She’s a mum of five, a former middle school teacher, and a sourdough obsessor. Key Takeaway The reason your habits keep falling apart isn’t a character flaw. It’s a system mismatch. When you stop forcing yourself into rigid prescriptions and start designing habits that flex around your real life, consistency becomes possible. When you name the shame voice instead of obeying it, you reclaim the driver’s seat. And when you give yourself permission to do things poorly, you finally start doing them at all. In this episode, we take a wide‑ranging journey through leadership, training, personal growth, and the pursuit of a healthier, more capable life. The conversation kicks off with stories of nostalgia and lessons learned the hard way, then shifts to a thoughtful look at how simplicity—whether in firearms instruction or leadership—creates better students, better teams, and better outcomes. We're joined by Connor Darnbrough, co‑founder of the SmartFit method, who shares his personal fitness journey and how it led to the development of a science‑based, AI‑enhanced training system built around one goal: improving healthspan. Connor breaks down the latest SmartFit developments, including a study with Arizona State University focused on measurable improvements in longevity and performance. Together, we dig into what actually matters in training today—strength, cardiovascular capacity, mobility, and recovery—and how tools like body scans, biomarkers, and adaptive modulators can give individuals a clearer picture of their absolute baseline. Connor explains why sustainable progress requires balancing catabolic and anabolic stress, why 90‑day programs often create the fastest transformation, and why enjoyment and gratitude are essential parts of any long-term health strategy. Welcome to episode #1017 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). At a time when technology promises limitless capability yet leaves so many people mentally depleted, the question is no longer whether digital tools are powerful, but whether we know how to live with them. Paul Leonardi is a leading expert on digital transformation, the future of work, and organizational networks, with more than two decades of research and advisory work focused on how technology reshapes collaboration, innovation, and human behavior. A professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he holds the Duca Family Endowed Chair and chairs the Department of Technology Management, Paul has advised Fortune 500 companies, startups, and nonprofits on navigating the people side of technological change. His work has shaped global conversations, translating rigorous research into practical frameworks leaders can actually use. His latest book, Digital Exhaustion - Simple Rules For Reclaiming Your Life, confronts a growing paradox of modern work and life: technologies that make everything possible are also wearing us down. Drawing on years of research and real-world observation, Paul explains why digital exhaustion isn't simply about screen time, but about constant task switching, inference-making in data-saturated environments, and the emotional toll of being perpetually reachable. He examines how capitalist incentives and addictive design amplify fatigue, why generational differences don't offer immunity, and how the collapse of clear boundaries between work, home, and identity has created a new baseline of psychological strain. Rather than advocating withdrawal or digital detoxes, Paul offers a more realistic path rooted in intentionality, clearer norms, and conscious choices about which tools deserve our attention. His work reframes exhaustion not as personal failure, but as a systemic condition that can be managed through better design, better habits, and a more humane relationship with technology. Big goals feel exciting until they demand a brand-new you by Monday. I'm teaching a different route: minimum baselines which are basically tiny, consistent actions that build real momentum without solely relying on your willpower. If you're navigating life after divorce, this approach respects your bandwidth while still moving you toward the life you want.I unpack why traditional resolutions collapse after two weeks and how the brain's energy-saving design sabotages overnight reinventions. Then I teach you to flip the script: create habits that are so easy they're almost impossible to skip. Think 15 minutes of movement three times a week, one fruit and one veggie twice a week, a $25 transfer to savings each paycheck, or a lights-out time on set days. You'll learn how these baselines slip past resistance, carve new neural pathways, and steadily reshape identity from “I try” to “I follow through.”You'll also hear practical examples across fitness, food, sleep, money, and confidence, plus how to handle the voice that says small steps don't matter. I show you how to celebrate both the baseline and any “extra” you feel like doing, without tying your worth to doing more. The real win is consistency and the self-trust it builds; that's the foundation for bigger goals later. To download your FREE GUIDE: "7-Day Self Trust Reset" click here. Send us a textIn this episode Elizabeth Bock speaks with Dr Molly Grace (University of Oxford), co-chair of the IUCN Green Status of Species working group. The conversation explains how the Green Status complements the Red List by measuring species recovery, not just extinction risk. Molly unpacks the three components of recovery (distribution, viability, functionality), explains how the assessment quantifies the impact of conservation actions, and outlines how the Green Status can be used for national reporting under the Global Biodiversity Framework.Key takeawaysThe Green Status answers a question the Red List does not: what does recovery look like, and how much has conservation achieved so far.Recovery is measured using three components: distribution (pre-impact vs current range), viability (extinction risk), and functionality (ability to perform ecological roles). The assessment includes a counterfactual element: it estimates what recovery would look like without past conservation, making conservation impact visible.Baselines matter and are contested; the Green Status uses a pre-impact baseline within the past 500 years to allow standardised comparison.Early priorities include improving taxonomic coverage (beyond charismatic vertebrates) and piloting national reporting with countries such as Indonesia and South Africa. The Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery is interested in promoting a wide variety of views and opinions on nature recovery from researchers and practitioners. The views, opinions and positions expressed within this podcast are those of the speakers alone, they do not purport to reflect the opinions or views of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, or its researchers. The work of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery is made possible thanks to the support of the Leverhulme Trust.
In this episode, Ricardo highlights the importance of milestones, baselines, and control points in project management, using December 31st as a powerful example of a milestone, both personally and organizationally. Just as individuals reflect on decisions and plan the future at the end of the year, projects and organizations use milestones to review budgets, compare goals, and consolidate results. Although the calendar is a human convention, milestones provide essential reference points for comparison and control. Without a clear baseline, it is impossible to assess real progress. Projects without milestones rely on perception, while projects with milestones rely on facts. Milestones are not bureaucracy; they are moments of reflection, decision-making, and adjustment that help prevent gradual and unnoticed project deviation. Listen to the podcast to learn more!

You think your posture is just muscles and bones. But what if the “scaffolding” that holds you together is also storing your emotions, shaping your face, and quietly dictating how you move through the world? This week on Live Well Be Well, Jason Van Blerk - biomedical physiologist, kinesiologist, and co-founder of Human Garage - joins me to explore fascia: the body's intelligent, water-rich network that connects everything. We unpack how rotation, breath, and vibration can unwind tension, release emotion, and restore flow - often in minutes.Jason shares his journey from injured athlete to fascia educator, the simple daily maneuvers he teaches, and the surprising science that links stiffness, mood, and the nervous system. We also talk barefoot living, grounding, and why “be the change” is more than a quote - it's biology. Here's what we dive into:How fascia functions as an intelligent, water-based organ that sends and receives information. Why emotions like fear and desire shape movement, posture, and even facial structure. How counter-rotation and breath unwind restrictions more effectively than linear stretching. What a living fascia looks like under magnification, and why dead-tissue dissections miss the point. Why stiffness in the neck/upper back correlates with low mood, and what one session can shift. How daily micro-manoeuvres (15 minutes) restore flow, reduce stress, and change how you see the world. What vibration and sound do at a cellular level, and how your words “program” your body. How barefoot walking and grounding re-charge cellular voltage and improve whole-body mechanics. Why self-care comes first: the limits of quick fixes, and the power of simple, repeatable practices. How to start today with one shoulder release and a gentle rotation sequence you can do anywhere.Love,Sarah Ann

Watch the FULL podcast here: https://youtu.be/bj0-zUDFkxcWorried that your HRV looks “low” on your wearable? I ask what a low HRV actually means, why different devices produce different numbers, and when a change is worth paying attention to.This clip explores how to interpret heart rate variability without getting lost in the daily noise. We discuss why HRV is a legitimate health metric with decades of research behind it, yet the absolute score is not comparable across devices or people because different technologies use different calculations. I'm taking a closer look at establishing a personal baseline over 21–30 days, why a four-day rolling view can reduce anxiety, and why consistent shifts over seven or more days matter more than one-off dips. We cover the role of genetics (around 20 percent of HRV), how lifestyle often explains age-related changes, and sex differences including a dip in the 40–50 window likely linked to menopause that later rebounds in the dataset referenced. You'll also hear why stability can reflect resilience, why big swings can be a red flag even when the number is “high,” and how resting heart rate and overnight respiratory rate fit into the bigger picture. I share my own readings (HRV around 10–13 on one device, resting heart rate at 45) and experiences using No Watch, Oura, and Eight Sleep, plus a mention of devices commonly used for HRV. As a nutritionist and health communicator, I focus on practical takeaways: use one device consistently, track trends, and avoid cross-device comparisons.***This episode is sponsored by: NOWATCH: Health tracking reimaginedKnow your body, trust yourself.15% off with code LWBW15 at nowatch.com***Sign up to Sarah's Compassionate Cure newsletter: Science Simplified, Health Humanised. Join Jenn Trepeck on Salad with a Side of Fries as she dives into the world of perfectionism and habits with Monica Packer, a recovering perfectionist who's cracked the code on sustainable growth. In this episode, Monica and Jenn unpack how to ditch rigid rules for baselines that support you, redefine consistency as doing your best most of the time, and build momentum with small, courageous steps that lead to exponential growth, all while keeping it real for your unique season of life. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, who discusses wellness and weight loss in real life, clearing up myths, misinformation, and bad science surrounding our understanding of nutrition and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.IN THIS EPISODE: (00:00) Intro: Perfectionism is a spectrum(06:12) Monica describes her shift from perfectionism to flexible habits(13:38) Monica redefines habits as supportive actions that help you show up as yourself(16:05) Choosing ‘shoulds' that align with your life, making habits flexible (18:22) Consistency is doing your best most of the time. In this episode of the JDE Connection, hosts Chandra and Paul dive into the topic of managing and understanding JD Edwards baseline ESUs (Electronic Software Updates), focusing particularly on how they affect system updates and customizations. Chandra shares her real-life frustrations working with a third-party software integration, which uncovered missing bugs tied to a baseline ESU. Paul provides a thorough explanation of what baselines are, why they matter, and how they reset update dependencies, making them more manageable for customers. The conversation also covers strategies for interpreting lengthy impact analysis reports, the importance of object usage tracking, and the challenges of retrofitting custom objects. 01:10 Compliance Training Badge Incentives and Jury Duty 04:34 No Jury Duty, Heat, and Construction Projects 06:20 Project Frustrations 08:15 So....What is a Baseline? 13:50 Impact Analysis Panic Button 16:50 Object Usage Tracking to the Rescue 20:12 Midwesternism of the Day Resources: Baseline FAQ's: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=104746788911911&parent=EXTERNAL_SEARCH&sourceId=FAQ&id=626402.1&_afrWindowMode=0&_adf.ctrl-state=3tbauqq3x_4 Performing Impact Analysis: https://docs.oracle.com/en/applications/jd-edwards/change-management/9.2.x/eotsu/performing-an-impact-analysis-1.html Understanding Object Usage Tracking: https://docs.oracle.com/en/applications/jd-edwards/change-management/9.2.x/eotsu/understanding-object-usage-tracking.html If you have concerns or feedback on this episode or ideas for future episodes, please contact us at thejdeconnection@questoraclecommunity.org

As we head into the solstice- that moment when the sun stands still—whether you're in the northern hemisphere where we have the longest day, or the southern, where it's the longest night—this solstice feels like a moment of transformation. The world is turning over, turning a page. The old system is visibly—palpably—breaking apart. A new system will arise from the ashes, because there is always going to be a system. The question is what it looks like, works like, feels like. We are a prosocial, communitarian species, but our culture has shattered from our knowing of our integral place in the All That Is, so it's possible we might end up with a system predicated on hatred, underpinned by fear, where a small number of incredibly frightened people let their traumatised parts run a scorched earth policy in an effort to hold back everything of which they are most afraid, but I am increasingly hopeful that what we're seeing in places is the extinction burst of the old system: its death throes if you like. As I record this, there has been an estimated turnout in the US for the No Kings rallies of between ten and twelve million. This is an astonishing number. If it's true, it's well within shouting distance of the 3.5% of the total population that was considered a tipping point in previous social movements in our recent history: the abolition of slavery in the UK, the civil rights movement in the US, gay marriage in too many nations to count. The difference is that these numbers are based on a pre-internet age. We genuinely don't know what happens when people can see the images on their phones and realise how many of the people around them share the common values of decency, compassion, integrity, generosity-of-spirit. So if this is potentially a turning point in the making in the US, how do we make this bigger, grander, more of a global movement? We know we need total systemic change, but how do we make it happen? How do we create lasting change in our ways of organising everything from food to water to shelter to education. How do we sort our mess of a governance system so we can find those with the greatest wisdom and give them as much power as they need and no more, at all the levels of our culture? As ever, I think the answer lies in our narratives - when ideas become common currency, then we begin to build them into our visions of how the world is and has been and could be. If we can become bold, evolutionary imagineers and craft stories of a different way of organising, loving, relating, caring…then we can live it into being. Which means we need to know in the marrow of our bones what this feels like. Imagination begins in our perception of the possible and part of the horror of the Trauma culture is the systematic stifling of possibility. From our books to our movies to our TV to our TikTok videos, so much is predicated on Trauma Culture narratives of scarcity, separation and powerlessness. We are told this is the way the world is. That it is human nature to lack all morality and engage in zero sum strategies that belittle, disempower and crush everyone around us. Which it isn't. Nonetheless, predatory Capitalism is designed to keep us from imagining things differently. If we're stressed about earning enough to survive while at the same time being hooked on the things we absolutely have to have to feel better, and are being steadily more sedated by the incessant dopamine drips of social media…then we literally cannot step out into other ways of being. So this is our task now - to wean ourselves off the stuff we neither need nor (really) want; off the dopamine drips, and onto things that make our hearts sing so we can build new stories predicated on connection, agency and sufficiency; stories where we are self-conscious nodes in the web of life, and it's our job to ask 'What do you want of me?', listen to the answers, then carry them out to the best of our ability. That's it. Easy to say. Harder to do. But we can boil things down to 9 basic concepts:Three Values: Integrity, Compassion, Generosity-of-SpiritThree Baselines: Clean Air, Clean Water, Clean Soil Three ReWoven Connections: between all parts of Ourselves; ourselves and Each Other; Ourselves and the Web of Life. What happens if every single thing we think or do or say or dream is based in these three sets of three? How would our days change? This isn't going to happen overnight, but we can make the commitment to live by them now. Here. This moment. It's not going to be easy: changing behaviours never is. But we have baselines to work from. And we might focus on one at a time. What happens if Clean Water is our priority? How does it change how we live? What happens if we make Integrity the heart and soul of every interaction through our days - beginning with ourselves? What does it feel like to commit to re-weaving clean, clear, courageous, compassionate connections between all parts of ourselves, ourselves and each other, ourselves and the More than Human world? Clearly I think the inner work is the foundation of everything, though I am aware that this isn't the case for everyone: if you work better in the outer world, if you'd rather lead with head than heart, that's fine, truly. Go for it. Find the Values that speak to you and the Baselines you can work with and go for it. If the Inner Work speaks more to you then know that we in the west need to heal ten thousand years of Trauma Culture in half a decade. It's been at least that long for some of us since our ancestors knew themselves to be an integral part of the web of life. This is the work of the spiritual warrior. It's going to take astonishing levels of courage and commitment. Nobody is pretending this is easy. But it is essential. And because this is the water I swim in, I'd like to share the basics of how we might get there. It starts with Grounding - with having a clear sense of our physical presence in the world, the flesh and the bones and the teeth of who we are; with sensing the solid earth beneath us as support, containment, holding, as the reality of who and what we are. When our feet are on the earth, there is nowhere left to fall. When we have a sense of roots going down into the earth, we have connection, holding and an open path from the heart of the earth to our heart. If we connect it on up to the heart-mind of the Universe, we have the three hearts in alignment. Just doing this is huge. But then, as we begin really to live in our bodies, so we can begin to recognise the places where trauma sits; the frozen places, the stuck places, the parts of ourselves that leap to our own defence - and are brilliant and wonderful and creative - but who are probably defending against threats that occurred decades ago, if not longer. We carry generational trauma, civilisational trauma. And the healing is ours to do: the good news is that there's a lot of help out there - that just as we really need it, we're beginning really to get to grips with how healing can happen. One to one work is good if you have the means: the time and the money, but many of us don't - and that doesn't mean we can't do the work. If you'd like to work in groups there's a huge amount. We offer Gatherings and the Membership, but there's Listen to Thomas Hübl Mystic Cafe — I'll link to his podcast Point of Relation in the show notes —Tara Brach, Michael Meade, Bill Plotkin, Jon Young…a host of others are offering online work that helps you to reconnect to yourself and the land. You have to find out what helps you best, but there's a lot out there. So we do the inner work. And in doing it, we become the still point in the whirling world that...

In this solo episode of the HNL Movement Podcast, Andrew breaks down an important concept from David Epstein's The Sports Gene: the interplay between your starting point—your baseline—and how well you respond to training. Whether you're an athlete, coach, or just someone trying to make progress in your fitness journey, understanding where you fall on this spectrum can bring clarity, motivation, and smarter training decisions.Andrew walks through the four combinations of baseline and responsiveness—low/low, low/high, high/low, and high/high—sharing insights on how society typically labels each group. From the underdog “most improved” athlete to the so-called “wasted talent,” he challenges these stereotypes and reminds us that everyone progresses differently. The takeaway? Use this framework as a tool for perspective, not an excuse.Ultimately, your baseline and response rate don't determine your ceiling—they simply shape the path you'll take. This episode is a powerful reminder that consistency, mindset, and intelligent training are still the biggest drivers of long-term growth. Tune in for a quick, insightful perspective that will change how you view progress in training and performance. Enjoy the episode!
This episode introduces a profound yet simple principle: knowing your baselines. This concept is crucial for effectively detecting and measuring change in your life and career.Uncover the fundamental idea that to recognise when something has changed, you must first understand what things were like before the change occurred. Often, people haven't been measuring their lives, making it challenging to spot shifts because their baselines are unknown.Learn to identify your personal baselines across various aspects of your life. This includes understanding typical daily habits, such as whether you tend to skip lunch, or how many hours you usually work (e.g., 6, 8, or 10 hours). While general data might suggest optimal working hours (e.g., 35-45 hours for most benefit, rarely more than 55 hours), your personal baseline is unique, and the goal is to empower you to make conscious decisions about your habits.Explore other crucial areas for baseline measurement, including simple health metrics like your typical body weight, baseline levels of activity with friends, expected energy levels, and even your baseline for positivity.Discover how establishing these 'operating norms' for your life can be a critical factor in recognising positive changes, identifying when you are unconsciously changing a behaviour, or even detecting signs of burnout. For instance, if your body weight trends upwards, it might signal decreased activity. Similarly, knowing your baseline learning rate can help you assess if you are learning at an acceptable pace.Understand the significant benefit of sharing your baseline measurements or expectations with others. What others observe about your life can provide a valuable starting point or confirm changes you might not perceive yourself. It's encouraged to get curious about what others are seeing, rather than dismissing their observations.Grasp why this principle is so important: it helps align your actions with your values and purpose. If you care about spending quality time with family or friends, understanding your baseline investment in these relationships allows you to recognise if you're moving away from your expected commitment. Knowing your baselines demonstrates that you're putting action behind your values, rather than just stating them.Consider starting by engaging a trusted person to help you be aware of your baselines, especially concerning the things that matter most to you. This provides external observation and support.

Send us a textThis is the fourth episode in a 5-part guest lecture series in GCM 806 Advanced Typography, speaking with design typography pros from across North America! This episode features Jamie Chang, founder of Manic Type in Toronto, Canada. You'll hear Jamie draw parallels between brand identity design and type design, better understand his process and hear about ways that designing a typeface can get out of hand (in a both a good way and bad way). You'll hear how Jamie decides what kind of type to design next, demystifying the licensing of his fonts, and why he doesn't use AI in his process. Finally you'll hear why creativity shouldn't always be the goal. The thread that travels throughout the conversation is a brilliant analogy comparing the type design industry to the music industry. You'll never look at a font (or a guitar!) the same way again. I'm all about interesting projects with interesting people! Let's Connect on the web or via Instagram. :)

Understanding context and establishing baselines are critical for developing systematic approaches to change for the right reasons. Rick Clark of Clark Land & Cattle and Farm Green Consulting is a fifth-generation farmer who farms 6,000 plus acres of certified organic crops in Warren County, Indiana. In addition to cash, oilseed, and cover crops, Rick raises cattle and sheep using his system of regenerative organic stewardship with no tillage. Through the years, Rick has worked to reduce synthetic inputs on his farm and focused on the return on the investment of any input and how that affects overall profitability. In talking with Mary, Jeff, and Eric, Rick is adamant that farmers need to understand their context (i.e., geographic, financial, emotional, etc.) and establish sound baselines for every aspect of the farm operation. Regenerative agriculture is a journey and not a destination: you have to start slowly, keep working at it, and plan accordingly. Tune in wherever you get your podcasts. In Episode 112 of Bionic Planet, titled "Fantasy Football and Dynamic Baselines: New Tools for Impact Assessment," we unpack the often misunderstood concept of dynamic baselines and its origin in synthetic controls, using fantasy football as an analogy. The episode begins with a clear and relatively simple explanation of dynamic baselines, which have emerged as a valuable tool in climate finance. Unlike traditional static baselines, which rely on fixed reference points, dynamic baselines adapt to changing conditions and provide a more accurate measure of impact. We discuss the importance of data and the need for robust methodologies to ensure that we can effectively attribute changes in deforestation and other environmental metrics to specific interventions. Our guests for this episode are Lynn Riley from the American Forest Foundation and David Schoch from TerraCarbon, both of whom have played pivotal roles in advancing the application of synthetic controls in carbon markets. They share insights from their work on the Family Forest Carbon Program, which aims to engage small family landowners in sustainable forest management practices. Through their collaboration, they have developed methodologies that not only improve the accuracy of carbon accounting but also empower landowners to adapt their practices based on real-time feedback. Throughout the episode, we examine the challenges of establishing effective baselines in diverse contexts, particularly in the United States. We highlight the significance of the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data, which provides a rich source of information for modeling deforestation risk and assessing the impact of various interventions. The conversation also touches on the importance of addressing confounding variables and ensuring that methodologies are applicable across different forest types and ownership structures. As we wrap up, we reflect on the broader implications of dynamic baselines for climate finance and the potential for these innovative approaches to drive meaningful change in forest management. By fostering a more responsive and data-driven framework, we can better understand the impacts of our actions and work towards a more sustainable future. Join us for this engaging episode as we bridge the worlds of sports and environmental science, uncovering the lessons that can be learned from both fields in our quest to navigate the Anthropocene. This episoed of Bionic Planet is technically an episode of Andrew Greely's podcast, Smarter Markets, where I appeared as a guest to discuss my new vertical "The Tribes of the Climate Realm." It's not a series but a vertical, where episodes will drop intermittently over the remainder of the year and probably for years to come. If you're sharing or referencing the show, please reference the original at https://www.smartermarketspod.com/carbon-frontiers-2024-episode-10-steve-zwick/ The discussion revolves around the historical context of the first generation of REDD projects and the media criticism they have encountered. Steve Zwick emphasizes the importance of understanding the different ideological factions within the climate community and the need to communicate the history and tribes within this realm to combat misinformation and cherry-picking. Throughout the episode, Steve Zwick provides insights into the development of methodologies, the role of verification and validation bodies (VVBs), and the criticisms faced by projects like Cordillera Azul. He highlights the need for balanced evaluations and constructive critiques to drive progress in the voluntary carbon markets. The conversation also touches on the challenges faced by journalists and market participants in accurately covering and communicating the complexities of carbon markets. Steve Zwick emphasizes the importance of thorough research, understanding uncertainty, and questioning preconceptions to provide accurate and insightful coverage of projects and methodologies. Overall, the episode serves as a deep dive into the intricacies of voluntary carbon markets, shedding light on the evolution of methodologies, the role of VVBs, and the need for balanced and informed reporting in this complex and evolving landscape. This is the first episode I've recorded by myself here since the Self-Love Challenge! That means it's almost been a month since I've been in the studio to record a new episode. I'm so excited! Today we are talking all about how to make your goals easy with minimum baselines. We touched on making goals easy during the Self Love Challenge and when I was doing one of the calls with the Club and VIP challengers. One of the concepts that our community wanted to discuss more was around the concept of minimum baselines and making it EASY, so we're diving into it today. How many times have you said you'll start something, but then it doesn't happen? Chances are you weren't specific about what you wanted to do and when, making it easy for us to skip it. Or you expected to jump from 0 to 60. Doing this makes your goals harder not easier, so it's easier to not keep your goals.MINIMUM BASELINES are a great way to clarify what we want and implement habit stacking, a crucial component to creating lasting habits. We also want to make completing the routine easy, even on the busiest days. This is where we want to make a minimum baseline for each routine step. The point of a minimum baseline is to set the bar low for what is acceptable for the habit, making success easy. So often, we feel the need for things like this to be significant every time to be meaningful. But it's more about building habits and routines than anything else. This is just one of the ideas we dive into today. If you want to make your goals easy, one way to do that is by making it super basic and easy to where it almost feels silly and pointless. If you want to learn how to keep your goals better, make long lasting routines and more, keep listening to today's episode!Attend the Wife Teacher Mommy Mindset MasterclassJoin Wife Teacher Mommy Club.
