Raw Talks With Vamshi Kurapati - Telugu Business Podcast

In this Telugu Podcast episode, we sit down with one of India's most respected and pioneering venture capitalists, Vani Kola, the founder of Kalaari Capital, to uncover the untold stories behind the early stages of India's startup ecosystem. Her journey begins at Osmania University, where she was one of just six women in an engineering classroom. From there, she made her way to Silicon Valley, immersing herself in the world of technology and innovation, before returning to India with a burning desire to contribute to the country's evolving business landscape. What follows is a trailblazing career in venture capital, including early and critical investments in startups like Myntra—at a time when e-commerce in India was still taking baby steps. It was not just the numbers that convinced her, but the subtle cues—like Myntra's outstanding customer service—that signaled deep-rooted potential. She walks us through the investment process, how she and her team funded the company, and how they played a pivotal role in orchestrating the historic Myntra-Flipkart merger, a turning point in Indian e-commerce.We also dive into her investment in Snapdeal and her sharp analysis of the cost of doing business in India—not as a roadblock, but as a challenge to innovate around. The conversation expands to her forward-looking views on the aviation sector, the future of food businesses, and whether they can sustain and scale without a strong e-commerce presence. She also breaks down the explosive growth of India's cosmetics industry, especially within the rising men's grooming market, marking a powerful shift in consumer behavior and lifestyle aspirations. But this episode isn't just about investments and startups—it's about mindset, resilience, and personal evolution. She speaks with remarkable clarity about the importance of stepping into uncomfortable spaces to unlock true growth. She adivices young entrepreneurs to stop waiting for validation, to act with conviction, and to trust their instincts. Her insights into identity crises, dealing with reputation and net worth, and the emotional challenges of today's highly competitive world are powerful, vulnerable, and deeply relatable. We reflect on what it means to thrive as a woman in a male-dominated business world, how her family supported her vision, and why living a simple lifestyle can ground even the most ambitious entrepreneurial dreams. Her personal stories—from visiting India's first mall and sensing the winds of change, to building Kalaari Capital from scratch—add texture and emotion to her already inspiring professional journey. When asked whether young people today should still chase the “Silicon Valley dream,” she delivers a sharp and optimistic answer: India today offers unprecedented opportunities, and this is the moment to build, innovate, and lead from within. She also shares her admiration for iconic Indian leaders like Ratan Tata, Narayana Murthy, and others—not to idolize them, but to compare values, leadership, and long-term thinking. Her message to the youth is bold and liberating: Be the change you seek, rather than waiting for the world to change for you. This is more than just a podcast—it's a masterclass in navigating India's business landscape, investing with purpose, and growing as a person while building something that matters. Whether you're a founder, student, investor, or dreamer—this episode will inspire you to think bigger, act bolder, and believe in the power of your own journey.

Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 86, The Miami Mall Incident: Shadow Aliens, Portals, & Coverups. New Years Day in Miami of 2024 started out normal enough with beachgoers, brunch, boating, and barbecues. That night the Bayside Marketplace outdoor mall along the waterfront was packed with people shopping, dining, and drinking in the bars. But screams, shots, and chaos shattered the peaceful evening, and as patrons ran for it, they were greeted by arriving police. A lot of police. People were detained, questioned, and their phone photos deleted. What followed was one of the strangest and fastest explosions of internet virality ever seen. Claims of police falsehoods, a cover-up, and shadowy interdimensional beings hit media in parallel with the official story of teens fighting with fireworks. But just because a claim spreads fast and far, doesn't necessarily make it true. There's an old saying: A lie will walk a mile before the truth gets its boots on. Come with me now as we unravel the mysterious mayhem in Renegade Files Episode 86: The Miami Mall Incident: Shadow Aliens, Portals, & Coverups. Help Crowdfund RF on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/renegadefiles Get cool RF Merch https://therenegadefiles.com/shop/Visit and Share the Website http://therenegadefiles.comDig us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@renegadefiles Follow RF on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/renegadefiles/ Here is the Link to Richard Bruce's Realm Hackers Video Mentioned in the Episode: https://rumble.com/v4bff8o-realm-hackers-a-b-they-opened-miami-portal.html If you like the show, please leave us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify if you think we deserve it. Are you a professor, researcher or writer?  Do you battle with distraction and writer's block?  If so, a writing retreat might be just what you need to finish your project.  Retreats provide academics with distraction-free environments to focus solely on their writing projects, helping them make significant progress in a short time. While teaching a class at Queen Margaret University in Scotland, I stumbled upon a writing retreat just down the hall from my classroom.  I asked Dr. Vani Naik, Researcher Developer at Edinburgh Napier University, for a quick interview on my iPhone.  I'm fascinated with the creative process and thought it could make for an interesting podcast episode.  Let me know what you think. "When you're writing, you're writing, and when you're not writing, you're not writing"   - Vani NaikKey Takeaways•  Writing retreats separate participants from daily demands and distractions• Structured 90-minute writing sessions create focused blocks of productive time• Creative elements like guided walks, yoga, and puzzles enhance productivity• Building community and acknowledging participants personally creates a supportive environment• Sustainable practices academics can incorporate into their regular routines• Separating writing time from non-writing activities is crucial for productivity• Creative approaches to academic writing challenge traditional views of academic seriousness• Participants consistently are surprised at how much they accomplish in short periods• Setting clear boundaries around writing time (out-of-office replies, phones away) enhances focusBio: Dr Vani Naik is Researcher Developer at Edinburgh Napier University, where she supports researchers with their professional development. She's particularly interested in supporting career development, as she recognises how much enjoying your work impacts on wellbeing. She's carved out an enjoyable working life so that the “Sunday Scaries” don't apply, and works to foster this in others. Apart from curating creative writing retreats, she is also keen to support professional development for researcher developers. She is part of an international committee creating one-to-one mentoring pairs, and a UK scheme for peer mentoring circles. What Vani loves about her work is that she can create practical impact from her theoretical PhD thesis work on academic career pathways to the professoriate for women engineers. She has also started her own business with a view to sharing creative practices, providing consulting services to individuals and higher education institutions. Her main interest throughout all her roles is transforming academic barriers into bridges, ensuring that researchers thrive in any chosen career pathway. Hi Friend - If you're enjoying Stories of Change and Creativity, make sure to follow, rate, and leave a 5-star review—it helps more people discover the show.

(It helps new listeners find the show.) Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 84: Forbidden Self Reliance and the Rent Seeking Pimpocracy. When a large enough contingent of the economy as a whole, is made up of jobs that add no value, then the Self-Reliance activities in society that bypass those mechanisms, become vilified by employees of the no-value-added processes. In this episode we will dissect what that sentence means for you and I as individuals, and explore how the activity described has impacted society. To do so we will coin a new term, the Pimpocracy. A pimp is someone who adds no value to the transaction, but profits by way of allowing the transaction to take place. A pimp positions himself as the parasitic middleman, taking his cut without participating. In fact, his only participation is the talking of his cut. This precisely describes a vast amount of activity in the modern American system of Big Government's collusion with Big Business. For example, one of the most ancient ways to feed yourself is by fishing. Fishing is a definitive Self-Reliant activity. But now, if you want to use a stick, and a string, and a hook baited with a minnow, to catch a fish, you must have a fishing license. The person whose job it is to sit in the county tax collector's office, take your information, and your money, then issue you a license to fish, adds nothing to your ability to catch fish. They exist simply as a middle-man between you and the fish. And for this, they take their cut. This is their job. Their livelihood. They are, in effect, pimping the fish themselves, for without those, there would be no fishing and thus no license. Extrapolate that across a myriad of building permits, vehicle registrations, license plates, insurance mandates, property taxes, business permits, Bankers who charge you to store and retrieve your own money, government commissioners who debate endlessly, and on and on ad-nauseum. Much of our modern economy is built upon jobs like these where the only purpose of the job, is to take a percentage of the money passing between two people trying to do business. I say this is a pimpocracy. Fiat currency not only fuels it, but demands it, but there are solutions and realistic ways out of the cycle, and if you come with me today we will explore what this all is, how it happens, and in defining it, see some clear ways out of it. So join me and together we will explore Forbidden Self Reliance and the Rent Seeking Pimpocracy. Help Crowdfund RF on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/renegadefiles Get cool RF Merch https://therenegadefiles.com/shop/Visit and Share the Website http://therenegadefiles.comDig us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@renegadefiles Follow RF on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/renegadefiles/ Links Mentioned in Show:Renegade Files Episode 54, Occult Magic in Modern Science. See pics of existing Sears Mailorder Homes next to their original catalog elevation sketches and floor-plans here: https://searshomes.org/index.php/2012/04/10/the-kit-homes-of-raleigh-nc/  If you like the show, please leave us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify if you think we deserve it. (It helps new listeners find the show.) Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 83, Chaos Magic. Chaos Magic is one of those unfortunate topics which, because of a poorly selected name, people tend to think they know what it is, without ever looking into it. Maybe that's a good thing from the perspective of a true Chaos Magician, but the more likely truth is that (1) the devotees probably don't care if someone understands it or not, and (2), there is no such thing as Truth in the first place so either of these scenarios is equally ineffectual in the world and there's really no one to care or not care, but this is not to say that the entire discipline is Nihilistic. A better term might be flexible, and before we start trying to understand this, we need to unravel a few things. First of all, the unfortunate name here: Chaos Magic. When people hear the word Chaos, they often think of melee, destruction, and wreckage. Officially, Chaos refers to a state of complete confusion or disorder, where there is no order or organization. It can also describe a confused mass or mixture of things. As for Chaos Magic, what we're concerned with is more of the absence of organization, formality, and tradition. But this doesn't mean the total void of performance. Quite the opposite. Chaos magic is, above all else, concerned with Results. One of its mantras is, If it works, it works. In the first section we'll cover some deeper definitions and origins of Chaos Magic. In part 2 we'll explore the tools of the trade. In part 3 we'll dive into Chaos Magic in Popular and fringe Culture. And that will lead us into some part 4, Pop Culture Events and Products that just may be forms of Chaos Magic being performed in plain sight. By the end we should know just enough about Chaos Magic to get us in trouble. So join me now for Renegade Files Episode 83… wherein together we will explore the strange, potentially life changing, and almost certainly treacherous world of Chaos Magic. Patreon https://www.patreon.com/renegadefiles ~Merch https://therenegadefiles.com/shop/ ~Website http://therenegadefiles.com ~YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@renegadefiles ~ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/renegadefiles/ ~ X https://x.com/RenegadeFiles ~ If you like the show, please leave us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify if you think we deserve it. Abhay is joined by pioneering seed-stage venture capitalist Vani Kola, founder and managing director of Kolaari Capital. They talked about rituals and routines, dealing with ambiguity and guardrails, and how accelerate closing the equity gap for women entrepreneurs in tech.(0:00 - 3:04) Introduction(3:04) Rituals, basic skills and values, anchors(19:01) Dealing with ambiguity as an founder or funder, navigating guardrails(36:07) India as a governance leader in tech, accelerating pathways for women, nostalgia, building trust(55:30) ConclusionSo I'm always eager to learn from leaders who more often than not are able to manage contrasts.  Now contrasts come in all different shapes and forms and they are literally all around us in every professional and personal environment and my hypothesis is that successful leaders find a way maybe through their own journey to manage small and large contrasts with progressively increasing clarity, patience, and purpose. So it was really a treat to share a conversation with Vani Kola, the founder and managing director of Kalaari Capital, an early stage venture capital firm in India.  Vani is originally from Hyderabad, and after an engineering degree, came to the US to complete her Masters and went on to a career as a serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley for over two decades.  She then returned to India to pioneer among the first homegrown Indian seed-stage venture firms with Kalaari Capital, using a philosophy that includes recognizing ambitious first-time entrepreneurs and helping them to scale up. Now mind you, she started this at a time in the mid-2000's when opportunities for growth and scale for ecommerce, tech, healthcare and many other sectors in India were at the ripening stage.  Vani has navigated and executed successfully through the endless contrasts of an evolving seed-stage venture ecosystem: new vs old, disruptive revolutions vs steady institutions, profiteering innovation vs collective responsibility, and skepticism vs trust… they're at the core of the face to face conversations that investors and entrepreneurs are having everyday.  Vani has been mentoring, and developing some of India's top founders and unicorn companies, with not just a keen eye on returns, but on the responsibility too to accelerate women as leaders in entrepreneurship, doing it all with a meditative sense of purpose and a growth mindset of sharing (by the way, you really have to check out her great newsletter called Kolaidoscope on LinkedIn). I had met her briefly once when she spoke at a panel discussion on tech and India's future, and it was great to catch up with her again to talk about everything from ambiguity and nostalgia, to the guardrails of tech, policy making, and even what she misses about Silicon Valley.  But we started by chatting about the basics of daily skills and anchors, and especially if she had any self- driving and governing rituals or routines? Thanks again and if you're enjoying these, please don't forget to share this with a friend, take a moment to write a kind review, or drop a line to us at info@abhaydandekar.com.  Again, a big shout out to Indiaspora for being that one of a kind gathering ground for doing good. Remember that conversation is the antidote to apathy and the catalyst for relationship building.

(It helps new listeners find the show.) Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 82, James Holmes the Batman Shøøter. Just after midnight on July 20, 2012 an armed man in a gas mask set off tear gas in a crowded theater at the premier of Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises in the Century 16 multiplex Cinema in Aurora, Colorado. Before the smoke cleared 12 were dead, and 70 were injured. Lone gunman James Holmes then walked out, leaned calmly against his white Hyundai, still in body armor and gas mask, and waited to be arrested. At 12:38 police dispatch received a call: gunshots fired in theater. Ninety seconds later police were on the scene. Pandemonium. Four minutes later 24 year-old James Holmes was in the back of a cop car. The arresting officer initially thought Holmes was on the SWAT team, and when he asked him if he was the one who had done this, he tells us that Holmes replied, “I am the Joker,” but Holmes denies ever saying that. The Superhero-Villain angles made the story huge news, and when Holmes arrived in court with fluorescent orange-dyed hair and a wide-eyed vacant expression, the world's attention was galvanized.  This was a tragedy with needless injuries, unnecessary loss of life, and untold psychological stress forced upon both the people there and upon a nation. This podcast episode was not created to suggest this event didn't happen, nor to capitalize on the tragedy, and my heartfelt compassion goes out to everyone who has been affected by this very real crime. I've put this episode off for a while now, but I finally decided that there's information here that needs to be brought to light. If this event did not happen in the way we have been told, or if important facts have been left unchecked, then the circumstances here deserve a deeper look. That's what we'll do today. This is not an episode of sensationalism, although many of the facts are dramatic. But there's something here that just feels wrong, out of place, or slightly off in some ways that are difficult to pinpoint. It's the tidy way that it was all packaged, the conflicting reports that were ignored, the high-level connections of some of those involved, and the almost cartoonish evidence presented after the fact. When logic clashes with the official narrative, I go to work. In this episode I'll do my best to give you the facts we know, the details that seem irrational, and the connections others have overlooked so you and I can view this tragic event with fresh eyes. So join me now, and together we will dive deep into the stories surrounding James Holmes, the Batman Shøøter. Help Crowdfund RF on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/renegadefiles Get cool RF Merch https://www.bonfire.com/store/renegade-files/Visit and Share the Website http://therenegadefiles.comDig us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@renegadefiles  Follow RF on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/renegadefiles/  If you like the show, please leave us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify if you think we deserve it. (It helps new listeners find the show.) Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 81, The Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abduction. The Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abduction takes us to the big apple to investigate a story that starts out strange, gets stranger, then goes into the bizarre. The cast of characters is extraordinary and includes an unassuming 40-year old mom, a famous New York artist, two Men-In-Black type agents, and a Secretary General to the United Nations. This story received a large amount of attention in New York City and was eventually the subject of a Netflix documentary called, “Manhattan Alien Abduction”. The story has also been covered on The Why Files Podcast and by Kit and Rory on their podcast: This Paranormal Life, and several more.  A lot of times I'll pass on certain subjects if others have covered them well already, but for some reason I kept coming back to this one.  When I started looking into this case I was fascinated by some of the details and events so I decided to dive deeper, and that's how I ended up making this episode … so come with me to New York City and together we will fly up the blue beam of light into the mothership and investigate The Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abduction. Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are identified as the leading cause of preventable death globally. These foods are chemically altered, stripped of their natural structures, and filled with additives, sugars, unhealthy fats, and preservatives, resulting in products that offer little to no nutritional benefit while contributing significantly to chronic disease. In this episode, I talk with Vani Hari and Dr. Shebani Sethi about why ultra-processed foods are not just a health risk—they are a public health crisis. Vani Hari is the food activist behind FoodBabe.com, a NY Times best-selling author of 4 books, founder of the organic products brand Truvani, and was named one of the “Most Influential People on the Internet” by Time magazine. Hari's viral testimony before the US Senate sparked a massive movement to stop American food companies from poisoning their own citizens with ingredients they don't use in other countries. Hari founded Food Babe to spread information about what is really in the American food supply. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. Vani has gathered hundreds of thousands of petitions to change the food system and influenced how major food giants like Kraft, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks create their products, steering them towards more healthful policies. Dr. Shebani Sethi is a double board-certified physician in Obesity Medicine and Psychiatry. She is the Founding Director of Stanford University's Metabolic Psychiatry program and Silicon Valley Metabolic Psychiatry, a new center in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on optimizing brain health by integrating low carb nutrition, comprehensive psychiatric care, and treatment of obesity with associated metabolic disease.  Full length episodes can be found here: Why the Last Thing that Should Ever Eat is Ultra Processed Foods How To Be A Food Activist In Your Own Kitchen How Does Ultra-Processed Food Affect Our Mental Health?
