Abhay is joined by pioneering seed-stage venture capitalist Vani Kola, founder and managing director of Kolaari Capital. They talked about rituals and routines, dealing with ambiguity and guardrails, and how accelerate closing the equity gap for women entrepreneurs in tech.(0:00 - 3:04) Introduction(3:04) Rituals, basic skills and values, anchors(19:01) Dealing with ambiguity as an founder or funder, navigating guardrails(36:07) India as a governance leader in tech, accelerating pathways for women, nostalgia, building trust(55:30) ConclusionSo I'm always eager to learn from leaders who more often than not are able to manage contrasts. Now contrasts come in all different shapes and forms and they are literally all around us in every professional and personal environment and my hypothesis is that successful leaders find a way maybe through their own journey to manage small and large contrasts with progressively increasing clarity, patience, and purpose. So it was really a treat to share a conversation with Vani Kola, the founder and managing director of Kalaari Capital, an early stage venture capital firm in India. Vani is originally from Hyderabad, and after an engineering degree, came to the US to complete her Masters and went on to a career as a serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley for over two decades. She then returned to India to pioneer among the first homegrown Indian seed-stage venture firms with Kalaari Capital, using a philosophy that includes recognizing ambitious first-time entrepreneurs and helping them to scale up. Now mind you, she started this at a time in the mid-2000's when opportunities for growth and scale for ecommerce, tech, healthcare and many other sectors in India were at the ripening stage. Vani has navigated and executed successfully through the endless contrasts of an evolving seed-stage venture ecosystem: new vs old, disruptive revolutions vs steady institutions, profiteering innovation vs collective responsibility, and skepticism vs trust… they're at the core of the face to face conversations that investors and entrepreneurs are having everyday. Vani has been mentoring, and developing some of India's top founders and unicorn companies, with not just a keen eye on returns, but on the responsibility too to accelerate women as leaders in entrepreneurship, doing it all with a meditative sense of purpose and a growth mindset of sharing (by the way, you really have to check out her great newsletter called Kolaidoscope on LinkedIn). I had met her briefly once when she spoke at a panel discussion on tech and India's future, and it was great to catch up with her again to talk about everything from ambiguity and nostalgia, to the guardrails of tech, policy making, and even what she misses about Silicon Valley. But we started by chatting about the basics of daily skills and anchors, and especially if she had any self- driving and governing rituals or routines? Thanks again and if you're enjoying these, please don't forget to share this with a friend, take a moment to write a kind review, or drop a line to us at info@abhaydandekar.com. Again, a big shout out to Indiaspora for being that one of a kind gathering ground for doing good. Remember that conversation is the antidote to apathy and the catalyst for relationship building.

(It helps new listeners find the show.) Thank you. This is Renegade Files Episode 82, James Holmes the Batman Shøøter. Just after midnight on July 20, 2012 an armed man in a gas mask set off tear gas in a crowded theater at the premier of Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises in the Century 16 multiplex Cinema in Aurora, Colorado. Before the smoke cleared 12 were dead, and 70 were injured. Lone gunman James Holmes then walked out, leaned calmly against his white Hyundai, still in body armor and gas mask, and waited to be arrested. At 12:38 police dispatch received a call: gunshots fired in theater. Ninety seconds later police were on the scene. Pandemonium. Four minutes later 24 year-old James Holmes was in the back of a cop car. The arresting officer initially thought Holmes was on the SWAT team, and when he asked him if he was the one who had done this, he tells us that Holmes replied, “I am the Joker,” but Holmes denies ever saying that. The Superhero-Villain angles made the story huge news, and when Holmes arrived in court with fluorescent orange-dyed hair and a wide-eyed vacant expression, the world's attention was galvanized. This was a tragedy with needless injuries, unnecessary loss of life, and untold psychological stress forced upon both the people there and upon a nation. This podcast episode was not created to suggest this event didn't happen, nor to capitalize on the tragedy, and my heartfelt compassion goes out to everyone who has been affected by this very real crime. I've put this episode off for a while now, but I finally decided that there's information here that needs to be brought to light. If this event did not happen in the way we have been told, or if important facts have been left unchecked, then the circumstances here deserve a deeper look. That's what we'll do today. This is not an episode of sensationalism, although many of the facts are dramatic. But there's something here that just feels wrong, out of place, or slightly off in some ways that are difficult to pinpoint. It's the tidy way that it was all packaged, the conflicting reports that were ignored, the high-level connections of some of those involved, and the almost cartoonish evidence presented after the fact. When logic clashes with the official narrative, I go to work. In this episode I'll do my best to give you the facts we know, the details that seem irrational, and the connections others have overlooked so you and I can view this tragic event with fresh eyes. So join me now, and together we will dive deep into the stories surrounding James Holmes, the Batman Shøøter. The Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abduction takes us to the big apple to investigate a story that starts out strange, gets stranger, then goes into the bizarre. The cast of characters is extraordinary and includes an unassuming 40-year old mom, a famous New York artist, two Men-In-Black type agents, and a Secretary General to the United Nations. This story received a large amount of attention in New York City and was eventually the subject of a Netflix documentary called, “Manhattan Alien Abduction”. The story has also been covered on The Why Files Podcast and by Kit and Rory on their podcast: This Paranormal Life, and several more. A lot of times I'll pass on certain subjects if others have covered them well already, but for some reason I kept coming back to this one. When I started looking into this case I was fascinated by some of the details and events so I decided to dive deeper, and that's how I ended up making this episode … so come with me to New York City and together we will fly up the blue beam of light into the mothership and investigate The Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abduction. Anyone who has looked into the Sasquatch phenomenon knows about the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, and it's star, affectionately known as Patty, who glanced over her shoulder in the famous home movie frame 352 to become an icon of Bigfoot Lore forever. The Patterson-Gimlin footage ignited a nation-wide frenzy of Bigfoot searches, sightings, and debates and the majority of this activity, in the early years, was focused on the American Northwest; our debut star having come to us from the Bluff Creek area of Del Norte County California. And while the vast forests of Cascadia may have given us the lion's share of Sasquatch reports, the fact is that ape-like cryptids have been reported in every state. In fact, reports of such creatures from the East Coast have risen to rival some of the bast tales from the Northwest. In this episode of Renegade Files we will explore the misty Blue Ridge Mountains, the humid swamps of Florida, and many woodland locations along the Eastern US corridors in search of Sasquatch Stories from credible witnesses. We'll analyze how Bigfoot Sightings in the East differ from those more traditional encounters we all grew up on from the West, while also considering how this humanoid cryptid changes as we move from South to North. In doing so, you may be surprised at how these variations actually combine to lend credence, and perhaps even evidence for the existence of one of the world's most famous elusive beast. So join me now and together we will sort out the sordid details of Sasquatch and Bigfoot: East Coast / West Coast Beef. Since there have been laws and systems of justice, there have been flaws and cracks in these systems. Sometimes the innocents go to jail, and sometimes the criminals get away. A Vigilante is someone who acts unofficially, and outside of the establishments of law enforcement and criminal prosecution, to deliver what they believe to be justice, in situations where the legal system, in the vigilante's eyes, fails to do the right thing. Some vigilantes are seen as heroes, others are seen as reckless dangers to society, and some divide opinions and create camps of both supporters and critics of their actions. On this episode of Renegade Files we will travel down the back alleys and desolate woodland roads in search of vigilante justice. We will try to understand some of the circumstances which drive people to take the law into their own hands, and we will delve into four specific cases and groups who have defined the modern vigilantes: Gary Plauché, Bernhard Goetz, The Guardian Angels, and Daniel Penny. Is there a time when everyone agrees that a vigilante has done the right thing? Do some deserve medals? Do all deserve jail cells? And in the end, what does it say about our society as a whole, when the wheels of justice force certain, otherwise law abiding citizens over the edge to take actions that make them criminals themselves? Topic Warning: This episode deals with topics of serious crime including violence, abduction, and murder so please only proceed if you are comfortable with hearing such subjects. It is not my style to delve into graphic or disturbing details, however, the basic facts of some of these cases may be disturbing nonetheless. If you are fine with hearing such tales then join me now, and together we will explore this controversial topic as we get into some of the most intriguing cases on record, and tackle a most divisive subject on Renegade Files Episode 79, Vigilante Justice. Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are identified as the leading cause of preventable death globally. These foods are chemically altered, stripped of their natural structures, and filled with additives, sugars, unhealthy fats, and preservatives, resulting in products that offer little to no nutritional benefit while contributing significantly to chronic disease. In this episode, I talk with Vani Hari and Dr. Shebani Sethi about why ultra-processed foods are not just a health risk—they are a public health crisis. Vani Hari is the food activist behind FoodBabe.com, a NY Times best-selling author of 4 books, founder of the organic products brand Truvani, and was named one of the “Most Influential People on the Internet” by Time magazine. Hari's viral testimony before the US Senate sparked a massive movement to stop American food companies from poisoning their own citizens with ingredients they don't use in other countries. Hari founded Food Babe to spread information about what is really in the American food supply. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. Vani has gathered hundreds of thousands of petitions to change the food system and influenced how major food giants like Kraft, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks create their products, steering them towards more healthful policies. Dr. Shebani Sethi is a double board-certified physician in Obesity Medicine and Psychiatry. She is the Founding Director of Stanford University's Metabolic Psychiatry program and Silicon Valley Metabolic Psychiatry, a new center in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on optimizing brain health by integrating low carb nutrition, comprehensive psychiatric care, and treatment of obesity with associated metabolic disease. Since the Treaty of Munster and the Peace of Westphalia combined to bring peace to the Holy Roman Empire and create the Nation-State in 1648, some confederations and multinational states have evolved into empires. An Empire is a political unit made up of several territories and peoples, typically established through conquest, and marked by a dominant centralized government and subordinate peripheries. And regardless of religion, political organization, or ideological framework, all of our modern empires share a common source of colonial expansion and political power: Drugs. From the 1790s to the present, the stories of Imperial territorial expansion, wealth accumulation, and wartime conquests have paralleled the story of illegal, recreational, and addictive drugs. In this episode of Renegade Files we will explore the ways that drugs are used to first build, and then control nations. Along this seedy journey we'll encounter an unlikely cast of interconnected characters including the tobacco and alcohol companies, big sugar, network television, big pharma, Gangster Rap executives, the prison industrial complex, 60s counterculture hero's, and the CIA. We go deep on this one, to illuminate the links that make up what amounts to a generations-long psyop created to weaken oppositions, addict and divide populations, delude individuals, and ultimately convince free people to trade their freedom for security. The information here moves fast and connects quickly, and my plan is to leave no stone unturned. In this episode we're going to explore a few serious topics that will cause us to look at some very familiar subjects in totally new ways. You know that's something I enjoy doing. So join me my friend, for this episode of Renegade Files, and prepare to have your mind blown, as together we explore the ways Drug-Built Empires Become authoritarian, with a deep look into illegal Drugs: Weapons of the Deep State. It is also the coldest the driest and the windiest. It's the world's 5th largest continent with an area of about 5,500,000 square miles, most of that covered by a thick sheet of ice, known as the Antarctic ice sheet, with an average thickness of about 1.2 miles. Most of the life there consists of mites, nematodes, Penguins, seals, and some forms of lichen and moss. Antarctica is notoriously inhospitable holding the record for the lowest temperature ever measured on earth, which is -128.6°F. It is also very difficult to travel to, surrounded by cold, very rough seas dotted with dangerous icebergs. Mount Erebus on Antarctica's Ross Island is the world's southernmost active volcano and it erupts about 10 times per day. The Antarctic shores are surrounded with thick sheets of floating ice which block the coastlines and bays, and many coastal locations require specialized ice breaking ships in order to make landfall. And yet many nations continually send scientists and researchers to live in a handful of remote bases in Antarctica, and have been doing so since the first Russian expeditions in 1820. Antarctica is distant, rugged, and freezing. It is the subject of treaties, alleged UFO sightings and crashes, a hidden Nazi base, many geographical anomalies, no-fly zones, and a list of conspiracy theories. On this episode of Renegade Files we will explore these claims and more, as we head south to dive deep into Antarctica (Mysteries, UFOs, & More). There has been a cultural sea change over the last year when it comes to health in America. It is shepherded by an unexpected coalition of nutritionists, longevity experts, wellness influencers, holistic and functional medicine doctors, moms wearing babies and natural deodorant, mushroom shamans, and some vaccine skeptics. They've gathered under the banner of Make American Healthy Again, or MAHA, and they're here to tell us that plastic cutting boards, Diet Coke, and pasteurized milk—all things that once seemed perfectly normal in American life—are actually killing us. A decade ago, if you read that list of personas you would think MAHA is some woo-woo, hippie progressive movement. But here we are in 2025, and this is the same group that helped usher Donald Trump to power. What does MAHA stand for? What does it look like when it marries itself to power? And what will MAHA actually be able to accomplish over the next four years, under their fearless leader—and risky Health and Human Services nominee—Robert F. Kennedy Jr.? Live in D.C. during inauguration weekend, Calley Means, Jillian Michaels and Vani Hari explain. Calley is the founder of Truemed and co-author of Good Energy. Jillian is America's original fitness expert and the author of nine books. Vani is the founder of Truvani, and you probably know her from her blog Food Babe. She also got Subway to remove “the yoga mat chemical” from its breads. And, the fact that there was a yoga mat chemical in its bread is the whole purpose of this conversation. Today, the three MAHA whisperers explain why this movement just might be the most powerful political force in American life. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
